Cooling Neck Wrap Sewing Tutorial

When the summer hits, we are ready to be outside. Whether working in the garden, playing in the pool or traveling and having adventures with friends and family. Of course, it is HOT and sometimes staying cool is a challenge.

That is why this cooling neck wrap tutorial is so great. Not only is it fast, easy but also affordable.

But how does the neck wrap keep you cool? The secret is in the polymer water beads. They are tiny when dry but balloon into large, gel like beads when completely wet.

Plus, they stay wet for a long time. Which means your neck wrap can keep you cool for hours. Throughout the day you can continue soaking your neck wrap in water to fill those beads and keep you cooler longer.

You are going to love how easy this project is. You'll be able to make several cooling neck wraps with this one order of polymer beads. All you need is about 2 teaspoons for one wrap.

Cooling Neck Wrap Tutorial

Materials Needed

40" x 4.5" Cotton Fabric
Polymer Water Beads - you only need a couple teaspoons per neck wrap
Matching Thread
Bowl of water

Step 1

The night before you sew, soak the polymer beads in a large bowl of water. You want a couple teaspoons of beads to about 4-6 cups of water. This gives the beads lots of water to soak up.

Step 2

Fold the fabric in half with right sides together along the long side. Mark a 3" opening on the long side about at the halfway point. Stitch at an angle from the fold to the side then down the long side of the wrap, leaving your marked opening unstitched.

Angle the opposite end to the fold. Use the image above to help.

Step 3

Trim the excess fabric from the angle on each end.

Step 4

Turn the wrap right side out and press well.

Step 5

Measure 7" from each end of the wrap. Mark a line at 7". Stitch a line across the mark on both sides.

Step 6

Find the opening and fill with polymer beads. You want to make sure the wrap is filled nicely. The more beads the longer it will stay wet and keep you cool.

Step 7

Don't overfill or you'll have a hard time stitching the opening closed.

Pin the opening closed and stitch it closed on your sewing machine or hand sew it closed.

You're all done! Now you can soak that cooling neck wrap in water to soak up even more moisture, or let it dry out until you are ready to use it later down the line.

It is best to hang your wrap to dry in a nice warm and dry area. This allows the beads and the fabric to dry quickly.

It's camping season! Which means we get to be outdoors and enjoy nature. It is so fun and relaxing to be together with no cell service.

I will say one downside of camping is trying to find a place for all our stuff. Or keeping track of things like keys, books, headphones, sunglasses, the flashlight. There never seems to be a good place for those items.

How to Make a Chair Bag

Materials Needed

(2) 13" x 22" Cotton Fabric - Main Front and Back

+ (1) Fusible Interfacing

(1) 13" x 21" Cotton Fabric - Large Pocket

+ (1) Fusible Interfacing

(1) 13" x 16" Cotton Fabric - Small Pocket

+ (1) Fusible Interfacing

5" of .5" Hook and Loop Tape (Velcro)

Step 1

Cut out all your pieces and press the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric pieces.

Fold the two pocket pieces in half, matching the smaller sides. Press. Topstitch along the folded edge of each pocket.

Step 2

Place the larger pocket onto the right side of the main fabric piece. Match the bottom raw edges. Draw a line down the middle of the pocket. Pin layers together.

Stitch down this line through all the layers.

Step 3

Place the smaller pocket over the main piece and large pocket. Match the bottom raw edges and pin.

Step 4

Stitch across the bottom raw edges of all the layers to keep them in place.

Step 5

With Right Sides Together, place the remaining main fabric piece (back) over the main piece with pockets. Pin in place. Mark a 2-3" opening at the top of the caddy.

Stitch around the entire caddy but leave open the marked opening. Press. Trim corner.

Step 6

Turn caddy right side out and press. Topstitch around the entire caddy to close off the opening and keep the caddy layers together.

Step 7

Trim the 5" of hook and loop tape into 2.5" pieces. Separate the hook side from the loop side.

Measure down 9" from the top and draw a line on each side. Place the loop side where you drew lines. Place the hook side in the top two corners. Pin in place.

Step 8

Stitch a box stitch and X around each piece of hook and loop tape.

Step 9

Turn the edge of the caddy down so the hook and loop pieces match each other.

Now pull out that camp chair and add the caddy to the armrest.

Fill it with all your treasures and you are ready for that next outing or camping trip.

DIY Patchwork Notebook Cover

When I was in high school, a family friend showed me how to make my very first quilt block. I remember sitting at her kitchen table, a little nervous to cut into the fabric.

Quilting sounded like something only very experienced sewists could do. But she smiled and said, “Just sew one block at a time.” And she was right. Before long, those pieces turned into something beautiful.

That’s the fun part about patchwork. It looks fancy, but it’s really just simple steps stitched together.

A DIY notebook cover is the perfect place to try patchwork or quilting if you’ve ever wanted to give it a try. It’s small, quick, and very forgiving. You can use fabric scraps you already love and turn them into something useful that you’ll see every day.

Plus, there’s something extra special about pulling out a notebook wrapped in fabric you made yourself.

In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through how to sew a simple quilted notebook cover that’s beginner-friendly, fun to make, and a great way to grow your sewing skills one stitch at a time.

Patchwork Notebook Cover Tutorial

Materials Needed

Notebook to collect measurements
(2) 2.5" Charm Pack or (100) 2.5" cotton fabric pieces
11" x 16" cotton lining fabric
11" x 16" cotton batting
1/2 yard Mediumweight Iron on Interfacing
Thread
Self healing mat
Rotary Cutter

Step 1

The interfacing will need to cover around 20" x 30" of fabric. You can cut multiple pieces and overlap them to make this work.

Place the interfacing on a flat surface that can take the heat of an iron. Make sure the fusible side of the interfacing is facing up.

Step 2

Arrange the squares into diagonal rows over the top of the interfacing. Make sure the squares are touching on all sides.

Once you are satisfied with your design, use a hot iron and press all the squares to the interfacing. You've just made a fusible grid!

Step 3

Fold each row of squares with right sides together vertically where there squares form a natural line. Stitch a 1/4" seam allowance.

Repeat this with all the vertical rows. Press.

Step 4

Fold each row of squares with right sides together horizontally where there squares form a natural line. Stitch a 1/4" seam allowance.

Step 5

Repeat this with all the horizonal rows. Press.

Cutting Instructions

Measure around the notebook and add 7". Measure the height of the notebook and add 1". These are now the measurements you need to follow Step 6.

Step 6

Trim the sewn patchwork piece down to a rectangle based on the size of your notebook. Adding 7" to the width and 1" to the length.

Notebook Sewing Instructions

Step 7

Once you've cut the patchwork fabric, batting and lining with the measurements from the cutting chart above, place the wrong side of the patchwork fabric over the batting fabric.

Quilt the two layers together following along the seams already sewn. Press well.

Step 8

With right sides together, stitch the patchwork and lining pieces together. Leaving a 5" opening along one of the long sides. Press.

Step 9

Turn the notebook cover right side out and press. Topstitch along the short edges of the cover.

Step 10

Turn the two side edges of the notebook cover towards the wrong side of the cover. Measure and make sure they are each 2" wide. Pin in place.

Step 11

Topstitch along the top edge and bottom edge of the cover. Attaching the side flaps and closing the opening you made in step 2. Press.

Step 12

Slide the notebook into each of the flaps.

DIY Baby Block Tutorial

Materials Needed

(6) 5" x 5" fabric blocks - choose various fabric types, colors, textures, etc.
(5) 4" ribbon pieces - different colors and textures
6" lace
(2) 5" ric-rac
10" ric-rac
Poly Fiberfil
Matching thread

Step 1

Layout the 6 block pieces in a T shape.

Optional: Stitch lace, ric-rac, and ribbons to the right side of some of the squares. Create whatever design you would like.

Step 2

Stitch all the center line pieces together. Between some of the pieces, fold a piece of ribbon and stitch it between the layers to make loops.

Step 3

Take the piece on the right of the T and place it right sides together on the second square. Stitch together.

Step 4

Take the piece on the left side of the T and place it right sides together on the second square. Stitch together.

Step 5

Match the square on the T right and match the sides with the top square. Press. Repeat with the T left square.

Step 6

The block should look like this.

Step 7

Fold up and match the next square up to the sides. Stitch.

Step 8

Stitch the next part of the block together. Leaving a 2" opening on one of the incomplete sides.

Turn the block right side out through the opening.

Step 9

Stuff the block with Poly Fiberfil. Hand stitch the opening closed using a whipstitch or slipstitch.

DIY Mini Zipper Pouch

If sewing a zipper makes you a little nervous or scared, you are not alone. A lot of beginner sewists avoid them and won't create sewing projects because of them.

But the truth is, zippers are much easier than they look. This DIY mini zipper pouch is a great place to start.

While the large boxed bag is great, this little pouch will keep all those small items from getting lost at the bottom of your purse, backpack or car. Coins, chapstick, hand sanitizer, earbuds...anything that needs a new home.

I actually started making mini zipper pouches after finding five loose lip balms at the bottom of my bag. One was melted, one had no cap and one had somehow collected so much hair and crumbs it was not great.

The best part? This project is quick, beginner friendly, and perfect for practicing sewing a zipper without feeling overwhelmed. Plus, you just need scrap fabrics and a small zipper.

Mini Zipper Pouch Tutorial

Materials Needed

(2) 5.5" x 4" Cotton Main Fabric
(2) 5.5" x 4" Cotton Main Fabric
4" x 1.5" Cotton Tab or Ribbon (use pinking shears to cut out of cotton fabric)
Optional: Fusible Interfacing
8" zipper
Matching Thread

Finished Measurements

3" x 2" x 1.5"

Step 1

Place the lining fabric right side up. Place the zipper along the top of the raw edge. Place the main fabric wrong side up over the other layers. Line up all the layers together along the top edge.

Stitch along the top edge, sewing all the layers together.

Repeat with the other lining and main fabric piece on other opposite side of the zipper.

Step 2

Open up the two layers on either side of the zipper so they lay flat. Press.

Topstitch across the two layers close to the zipper.

Step 3

Open the layer again and place the two lining sides together and the two main fabric sides together.

Mark a 1" opening in the center of the lining piece. Stitch across the bottom edge of the main fabric and stitch across the lining, leaving the marked opening unstitched. Press.

Step 4

Open up the pouch so that the zipper runs down the center of the bag. The bottom seam from the above step should lay on top of the zipper.

If this is confusing, make sure to check out the video in the post.

Step 5

Fold the 4" tab in half. Place over the zipper between the two layers of the main fabric. Unzip the zipper about 1". Pin in place.

Step 6

Stitch 1/4" along the straight edge over each side of the zipper.

Step 7

Cut off the extra edge of the zipper and tab.

Turn right side out through the opening in the lining. Press.

Step 8

Stitch the opening in the lining closed by hand sewing using a slipstitch or use your machine.

Step 9

Open the corners of the boxy pouch and lay them flat to make a triangle shape. Measure down 1/2" from the corner and mark.

Stitch down across this marking. Repeat this all the corners.

Step 10

You should have 4 matching corners. Trim the triangles down. Finish using pinking shears, zig zag stitch or cover with bias tape.

Step 11

Turn bag right side out and enjoy!

And just like that, you’ve sewn a zipper!

DIY Mesh Laundry Bag

How to Sew A Mesh Laundry Bag

Materials Needed

(2) - 13" x 4.5" Fabric accent pieces
(1) - 13" x 28" Mesh fabric
(2) - 17" x 2.25" Bias Tape (1/2")
(6") - 1/2" Hook and Loop tape
Matching Thread

Step 1

Line up the raw edges of the fabric accent piece to the raw edge of the mesh. Make sure those raw edges are matched well. You don't want them peeking out on accident later.

Roll up the extra mesh to sit in the center of the accent fabric.

Step 2

Fold the bottom edge of the accent fabric and match it opposite side of the accent fabric. Pin in place. The mesh should be incased inside the accent fabric.

Stitch down the length of the accent fabric through all the layers.

Step 3

Carefully pull the mesh out through one of the sides of the accent fabric to turn it right side out.

Step 4

Press the accent fabric and topstitch across.

Step 5

Take the remaining accent fabric and line up the raw edges of the fabric accent piece to the raw edge of the mesh. Make sure those raw edges are matched well. You don't want them peeking out on accident later.

Roll up the extra mesh to sit in the center of the accent fabric. Pin the opposite sides like in steps 2 and 3.

Step 6

Stitch down the length of the accent fabric through all the layers. Pull the mesh out through one of the sides of the accent fabric to turn it right side out. Press and topstitch.

Step 7

Pull the two pieces of hook and loop tape apart. Place one side in the center of one of the accent pieces. Place the other on the opposite accent piece. Make sure the two pieces can overlap.

Step 8

Stitch around each of the pieces of the hook and loop tape.

Step 9

Close the pieces of the hook and loop tape and match up the sides of the mesh fabric.

Step 10

Pin bias tape along the raw edges on the sides of the lingerie bag. Tucking the raw ends under on either end. If this is confusing, make sure to watch the video above for some extra guidance.

Step 10

Stitch down the two bias tape pieces. Making sure to enclose all the raw edges of the mesh. Carefully that you don't stretch the mesh as you go or the bag will end up a little wonky.

Now fill that mesh laundry bag up with delicates or tiny socks and enjoy some free time.

What Is a Zipper?

A zipper is just two rows of teeth that open and close with a pull tab. That’s it! When you sew a zipper into a pouch, it helps keep all your things safe inside. No more pencils, snacks, or sewing tools falling out.

There are lots of zipper types, but most pouch projects use basic craft zippers. These are easy to sew and great for beginners.

What Sewing Foot Do I Need?

You will want to use a zipper foot.

A zipper foot lets you sew close to the zipper teeth without your presser foot getting in the way. It slides right along the edge so you can stitch nice and neat. Most sewing machines come with one, and they are easy to snap on.

Does My Machine Need a Special Stitch?

Nope!

You can sew zippers using a regular straight stitch. Just move your needle to the left or right if needed so you can sew close to the zipper teeth.

Where Can I Purchase Zippers?

Your local sewing or quilt store should sell zippers. You can also find them at some big box grocery stores.

I will often buy my zippers in bulk on Amazon. Then I always have the colors and sizes on hand for whatever project I am doing.

What is a fat quarter?

It is a term used often but maybe you aren't exactly sure what it mean. A fat quarter is a piece of fabric that equals a quarter of a yard but it is cut differently from a regular quarter yard. A fat quarter is fabric cut into a rectangle that measures 18" x 22".

How to Sew a Spa Headband

Who doesn't love a spa day?

Whether you're heading to the real spa or setting up face masks at the kitchen table with the girls, it feels great to slow down, relax and have some fun.

We all know someone who needs that right now. That is why this DIY spa headband is the cutest little project and will mean something to the girls.

It says "Take a break". "You matter". "Go wash your face and breathe for a minute." That's a powerful gift and something that takes less than 1/4 yard to create.

If you've got a scrap bin, you can whip this project out in no time. It's beginner friendly, quick to sew and perfect for gifts, care baskets or just dropping off at a friend's house because she had a long week.

Sometimes the smallest handmade things bring the biggest joy.

VIDEO: How to Sew Spa Headbands

Spa Headband Tutorial

Materials Needed

Spa Headband Pattern OR use cutting chart below
1/4 yd fleece fabric (or another soft fabric like minky, flannel or terrycloth)
24" of 1/4" elastic
Matching thread

Cutting Chart
	Cut	Measurement
Headband	1	36" x 6"
Bow	1	7" x 7"
Tie for Bow	1	2.5" x 5"

Step 1

Cut out all the pattern pieces using the pattern or the cutting chart above.

Step 2

Start with the tie for the bow. Fold it in half with long sides together. Stitch at 1/4" down the side.

Turn right side out. Press.

Note: If you are using fleece fabric or knit fabric, it is suggested to use a zig zag stitch to allow for easy movement and to prevent thread from breaking when in use.

Step 2

Take the bow and fold it in half, matching the two short sides. Pin together. Mark a 1" opening in the middle of one of the sides. Stitch around the bow. Press.

Step 3

Turn bow right side out and make sure all the corners are squared off.

Step 4

Fold the headband piece in half, matching the long sides. Stitch down the long side of the headband.

Step 5

Turn the headband right side out.

Step 6

Move the seam of the headband to be in the center back. Measure 1/2" in from the edge of the headband. Stitch a zig zag seam from down the length of the headband. Stop stitching about 1" from the bottom of headband.

Turn the headband and stitch a zig zag seam 1/2" from the opposite edge. Stop stitching about 1" from the bottom of headband.

Step 7

At this point you should have 3 casings you can thread elastic through on the headband.

Take the elastic and cut it in half. Thread one elastic through the top casing of the headband. Thread the other elastic through the bottom casing. Leave the center casing empty.

Step 8

Pull the elastic from one end of the headband to the other. Pin the elastic on each end so it doesn't get lost inside the headband.

Step 9

Tie a double knot using the two ends of the top casing elastic. Repeat with the bottom elastic.

Step 10

Optional: stitch the ends of the elastic.

Step 11

Tuck the elastic into the headband. Overlap the unstitched edge from Step 6 over the stitched edge to close the headband.

If you are using a fabric that frays, tuck the raw edges into the headband.

Stitch across the opening to close the headband and encase the elastic.

Step 12

Place the bow over the headband seam. Wrap the tie around the headband and bow with the right sides together.

Step 13

Stitch the ends of the tie together. Cut the extra fabric of the tie away to remove the bulk. Turn the tie right side out and adjust the bow and tie to your liking.

You did it! You've made a soft and comfy spa headband you can use to keep hair out of your face.

Simple Shower Flower Loofah

How to Sew A DIY Loofah

Materials Needed

Shower Flower Pattern
16" x 7" piece of terrycloth (or you can upcycle a towel)
18" rope or ribbon
Thread

Step 1

Use the flower shower pattern to cut out one layer of terrycloth.

Optional: finish the raw edges with zig zag stitching or on your overlock machine.

Step 2

Fold the terrycloth with right sides together matching the long sides to create a tube. Stitch at 1/4" down the long side.

Turn the tube right side out.

Step 3

Stitch two straight stitches about 1/2" away from the fold on each side of the tube. You want to have a center section down them middle.

Step 4

Thread the rope or ribbon through the center section of the tube. Make sure to have a tail on each end of the tube.

Step 5

Gently pull the two ends of the rope to gather the tube into a flower shape.

Step 6

Tie a double knot with the rope where the two ends of the tube meet to create the look of a flower.

Step 7

Tie a knot at the ends of the two sides of the rope to create a loop that the flower can be hung from in the shower.

That's it! You made the shower flower loofah sponge. Super simple, really useful and a fun gift to make for yourself or someone you love.

DIY Drawer Organizer Tutorial

Materials Needed

Drawer Organizer Sewing Pattern or use cutting chart below
(2) 15" x 15" cotton squares for each size (or fat quarters)
¼ yard Medium to heavy fusible interfacing
Matching Thread

Cutting Chart

Size	Measurements	Main Fabric	Lining Fabric	Interfacing
Small Square	10" x 10"	1	1	1
Large Square	14" x 14"	1	1	1
Long Rectangle	14" x 9"	1	1	1

Once you've cut out each of the pieces above, cut a 3"x3" box out of each corner. Like the picture below.

Step 1

Using the pattern or cutting chart, cut out the pattern in main fabric, lining and interfacing. Press interfacing to the wrong side of the lining fabric.

If you used the cutting chart, make sure to cut a 3"x3" box out of each corner. Like the picture above.

Optional: To make the the organizers hold their shape more, you can add interfacing to the wrong side of the main fabric as well.

Step 2

Fold the main fabric of the organizer with right sides together. Match the corners of the cut out squares and stitch across.

Repeat this step for all the cut outs on the main fabric and the lining fabric. This is a good time to check out the YouTube video if you are feeling confused.

Step 3

You should now have two of the same size box. They should nest together nicely.

Step 4

Turn the main piece right side out and slip it inside the lining. Line up the raw edges and pin. Make sure to match the seams for all the boxed corners together.

Step 5

Mark a 3-4” opening that you won’t sew closed in the middle of one side. Stitch the two layers together around the top raw edge, leaving the opening unstitched.

Step 6

Turn the organizer right side out through the opening. Press.

Step 7

Topstitch around the top of the bin.

You did it! See how quick and easy that was. Now you have a little drawer organizer you can use to get that junk drawer or sewing drawer nice and organized.

The pattern is in 3 sizes. You can easily mix and match the sizes to make them all fit in your drawer nicely and get organized in now time.

Easy Bifold Wallet Pattern and Tutorial

A few years ago I took a trip to Florida with some of my students. I needed a small wallet that could fit in my pocket so I didn't have to carry a bag into all the theme parks.

I actually sat down and busted out this easy bifold wallet sewing pattern.

I really didn't want to carry a purse around the entire park. I just wanted something I could slide into my pocket.

After my trip, I found that this simple wallet pattern was the perfect size for carrying throughout the summer and whenever I didn't want to carry a purse.

Let me share the tutorial for how I put this little project together.

VIDEO: How to Sew a Bifold Wallet

Easy Bifold Wallet Pattern and Tutorial

Materials Needed

(2) 8" x 4.25" Cotton Fabric -main wallet
(2) 8" x 4.25" Cotton Fabric -inside pocket
(5) 3" x 4.25" Cotton Fabric -small pockets
Fusible Interfacing
Thread

Step 1

Cut 2 - 8" x 4.25" pieces of cotton for the main wallet. Press interfacing to the pieces.

Cut 2 - 8" x 4.25" pieces of cotton for the inside cash pocket.

Cut 5-6 - 3" x 4" pieces of cotton for the small pocket pieces and press interfacing to the back of each piece.

Step 2

Turn the tops of small pocket pieces 1/4" and another 1/4" and press. Stitch a straight stitch across each pocket hem.

Step 3

Take the main inside piece and press it in half. Line each of the pocket pieces up on the main piece.

Stitch the bottom of each pocket to the wallet piece.

Step 4

With right sides together, place one main wallet piece and one inside pocket piece together. Stitch a straight line on down the long side of the wallet. Press open.

Repeat this step with the main piece and pocket piece.

Step 5

With right sides together, place the sewn wallet pieces together, making sure to match the inside pockets together and the main wallet pieces together.

Mark a 2" opening in the middle of the pocket piece. Stitch the two layers together using a 1/4" seam allowance.

Step 6

Turn wallet right side out through the opening. Press well.

Step 7

Stitch the opening closed on the inside pocket.

Step 8

Tuck the inside pocket into the wallet and press again. Topstitch around the wallet pocket.

Fill that wallet up! This is a great pocket size bifold wallet pattern. You can carry all the essentials without any issues.

I carried this around instead of my purse this summer when I took some students on a trip to Walt Disney World. It worked great!!!

Mini Peekaboo Stocking Pattern

There’s something special about sharing a small treat with friends and neighbors during the holiday season. It does not need to be fancy.

Sometimes the sweetest gifts are the simple ones made with our own hands. That is where a little peekaboo stocking treat bag comes in. It is a quick project that feels festive the moment you start stitching.

Sewing these mini stockings is an easy way to slow down and enjoy the season. A few scraps of fabric turn into gifts that bring cheer wherever they go.

How to Sew A Peekaboo Stocking

Materials Needed

Peekaboo Stocking Sewing Pattern - download at the end of the post, look for the peach colored button
1/4 yard cotton fabric - I get my holiday fabric from Fat Quarter Shop
1" grosgrain ribbon
Clear vinyl
Thread

Step 1

Stitch the optional ribbon across the top of the stocking. Stitch ribbon on both the front and the back of the stocking.

Step 2

Trim out the circle on the front of the stocking piece. Place a square of clear vinyl fabric behind the stocking and pin in place. Keep the tissue in place to help sew easier.

Step 3

Stitch around the circle on the clear vinyl.

Step 4

Press the stitching carefully. Make sure to cover the vinyl with fabric before placing under an iron.

Step 5

Place one of the main stocking pieces right side up on a flat surface. Place the side with right side down and pin. Stitch around the stocking leaving the top open.

Step 6

Clip and notch around the curve of the stocking toe.

Step 7

Turn the top of the stocking to the inside and press. Stitch around the stocking to finish the hem.

Now fill the stocking with some yummy treats. Use some ribbon to close the stocking for sharing.

Quick Felt Holiday Crown

Several years ago we took our little family across the pond to France and the UK for Christmas. We spent two weeks exploring Paris, Scotland and England. It was an amazing experience and we have great memories.

One of those memories is popping Christmas crackers. We cracked multiple crackers while we were there with family. The kids loved it and still both have their paper crowns from those crackers.

Since it was such a fun memory, I wanted to be able to recreate it is a bit while at home. But finding crackers isn't always easy, plus, it is an additional expense during a very expensive time of year.

Instead, why not make some easy, DIY felt crown that the kids can use year after year. Or during the year for dress up or on birthdays.

Now we are sharing this super simple and fun felt crown sewing pattern with you. You can follow the video tutorial or the photo tutorial. They both have different ways to stitch your crown together and both work nicely.

Felt Crown Sewing Tutorial

Materials Needed

Holiday Crown Pattern (grab it at the end of the post)
15" wide Colored Felt
(8") 1" wide elastic
Matching Thread

Step 1

Cut out two crowns in felt.

Step 2

Insert one end of the elastic through two layers of the crown on the side. Pin.

Repeat with opposite side of the crown and elastic.

Step 3

Stitch two crown pieces together and over the elastic.

Step 4

Trim around the crown where any of the felt might need cleaning up.

That's it! This is such a fun and fast project. You'll be sewing crowns for the entire neighbor.

When our oldest son passed away suddenly in 2022 at the age of 12, the holidays took on new meaning. Each year since, we've looked for ways to keep his memory close and to share a piece of him with our family.

Step 1

Trace the signature onto some Fabri-Solvy using the Frixion Fineliner Pens.

Step 2

Place your embroidery hoop over the fabric and twist into place. Making sure to center your fabric.

Step 3

Place signature in the middle of the fabric and press with fingers to secure it.

Step 4

Using a backstitch, sew the signature onto the muslin fabric.

Step 5

Remove the Fabri-Solvy with water and allow design to completely dry.

Step 6

Cut about a 1" seam allowance around the outside of the embroidery hoop.

Step 7

Carefully run a basting stitch around the raw edges of the embroidery hoop.

Step 8

Turn the hoop over and carefully pull the basting stitch so that the fabric starts to gather around the hoop. Tie off the edges of the thread.

Step 9

Cut a piece of cardboard or Kraftboard the same size as your embroidery hoop. Hot glue the board to the back of your hoop to encase the fabric raw edges.

Step 9

Cut a piece of twine about 6-8 inches long to thread through the hoop screw.

Hot glue some holiday floral like holly and ivy to the top of the hoop to cover the screw.

Do you have a creative kid? Let me tell you. I have 3. They love crafting, recycling and sewing.

They each learned to sew a couple summers ago and made their own pajama pants. My daughter can't walk by the recycle bin without pulling something out to make a project with.

Sometimes it can be hard to figure out gifts for creative kids.

This Christmas I really wanted to give them some gifts they could use to be "makers".

Last year my sister got my son this Create Your Own Little Monsters Kit. He had such a fun time making his monsters that I wanted to find some other great projects for the kids to do.

Not only was the project fun, but it was great for both his small motor skills and for his problem solving. I want more gifts that are like this for my kids.
