A lot of good stuff in here about how the only companies that survived 1.0 already had 2.0 aspects going for them. Ahh yes, it also talks about how it puts good use to the long tail, so everyone's in.
Now for an example of a Web 2.0 company. Well, we all like YouTube, but how about something a little more educational like Wikipedia. Ok, for something really obscure: Twitter.

Article #14

I think I remember talking about this is class a while back, but the two billionaires who created Skype are at it again. But can this be done again? Maybe not the same exact way. And with OK Go: YouTube was just getting started and OK got in at the bottom and got a lot of hits. Now I'm a big OK Go fan. Well, maybe not, but I do think they're pretty great. I can see now that this is just the start of this kind of thing. So what is the next new distribution channel? And who will be at the bottom of that as the icon? But with thousands and thousands of people out there posting things it's amazing that we still have web celebrities.

a. It is a girl (or so everyone beleaved) with a video blog. Tons of people got into it on YouTube. But actually Lonelygirl15 is more of an idea or company.
b. Ramesh Flinders, a screenwriter and filmmaker from Marin County, Calif.; Miles Beckett, a doctor-turned-filmmaker; Grant Steinfeld, a software engineer; and an actress named Jessica Rose.
c. It sounds like a company named Creative Artists Agency thought up this idea.
d. A web-cam and a lot of creativity is all you need to make a mark in the world.
e. California and YouTube.
f. Now it's also on Revver, where it can make money.(Kinda like Brightcove)

Article #10

Carson Daily the new Al Gore? I kept coming across this "IYS" when going to the NBC website to watch my shows. In Photoshop we learned how to manipulate this to get a better picture.

White balancing is basically telling the camera what "white" is and building all the other colors around it. I found a great link from DVXuser.com about using different colors for white balancing for some neat affects. The concept is that the the sum of all the “unpopular” greatly out weigh the popular. For instance in the TV world the big 4 (yes, I count FOX), have the most popular and highest paid shows, but there’s far more viewers and money spent in the niche cable channels combined. Right now I don’t see how it could help me as a producer. Ok, I take that back. At first I was thinking about trying to hit all the less-knowns at once instead of competing with the big boys. But no, there is plenty of people to find my content if I aim for the people looking for it.
Some places I looked at was wikipedia and wired.

Brightcove

“The free service allows video programmers to build a commercial Internet television channel, syndicate it to other sites, generate advertising revenue and distribute the video over Brightcove's own distribution site.” This is an exript from internetnews. I find myself struggling to put thoughts into words.
The difference between Brightcove and the all-powerful YouTube is money can be made Brightcove. They share 50/50 the profits that are gained from advertisers with the content creators and 30/70 for pay-media, whereas the 30% goes to Brightcove. The sight is geared toward professionals and ‘prosumers’ wanting to get their content out there, and costumers looking for the right content. Because of all this they scrutinize all their incoming content, dividing it into categories for advertisers, and checking for copyright and content issues. For the serious producers.

Article #6

This isn't so much about technology in the media world, but a lawsuit between NBC and Emerson Electric about a garbage disposal mishap. Nevertheless, the potential for greater convenience, reliability and speed offered by the motor car meant that the road system was eventually redesigned in its favor, after overcoming many obstacles.

Second Life is an online virtual world where a virtual person could do virtually anything. Starting with beta testers in March of 2002 it has grown to support over half a million members. The word of Second Life is split up into three main continents plus 1350 private islands totaling 83 square miles, and it's growing more every day. The open economy there is pretty incredible. You are given the tools to create anything you can imagine then copyright it to sell it to others. The currency is the Linden Dollar, or L$. The current exchange rate is 309L$ to 1 U.S. Dollar, and that varies like the stock market.

Article #3

Well, this one doesn't have much to do with video production.
