Admittedly, I've always been a cat person. That's why, even though it's been years I've been itching for a pup, I relinquished knowing my lifestyle was not cut out for such a commitment. It's been a year now that I've been working from a home office; Not only would it be fun to have a pal there, but what better opportunity will I have to train a puppy?

Besides, I could use an offline walk once or twice a day too.

The decision wasn't taken lightly, and even though it's only been a week, and he snores, I'm totally in love.

So here he is, 3 months, 10 lbs and uncountable cuddles, my little schnauzer, Russell.

It's no secret I'm a big Habs fan and yesterday I tweeted something about the NHL's decision not to suspend or fine Chara. I'm no way shape or form taking a whole lot of credit here. I saw a picture, I read an article, and believed them to be completely contradictory... I never could have guessed what would happen next.

The push notification on my iphone is a simple and smooth "ding"... within moments of my tweet, it sounded more like a broken ringer on a rotary phone, and it went on for hours. In fact it wasn't long before the battery was completely drained.

Turns out, it was such a popular tweet, it made it to Twitter's homepage as a "Top Tweet", it was also the Top Tweet for Habs, Bruins, NHL and Chara which were all trending topics. At one point, my Twitter handle @ggiiaa was even trending at #2 in Canada!

For the next 6 hours, retweets continued en masse, even into the night and still I'm getting retweeted today, 24 hrs later (so much for realtime). Totally ridiculous. It just goes to show just how much people believe that Twitter can give them a voice (there is now an official investigation into the matter) oh and of course, how much Habs fans love their Montreal Canadiens.

This past weekend some fellow geeks and I made the trek (6 hours out due to snow) to Toronto for Canada's largest Podcamp. 1400 people registered for the free 2 day event that included 6 tracks of talks on things like Podcasting (shocking) but many (if not half), on Social Media best practices. As with most of these conferences, the people in attendence really do make all the difference. As to whether or not I'll attend next year, will really depend on the speaker lineup.

This past Saturday I attended my first ever TED event, TEDxConcordia. A full day of great speakers, incredible range of topics and 500 of the most interesting attendees Montreal has to offer. Bravo to David Chouinard and the 2011 organizing team.

I feel a thank you is in order, to Lenny Rachitsky from Localmind, Tara Hunt of Shwowp, Adele McAlear, Mitch Joel from Six Pixels of Separation, Nomadic Massive, Michelle Holliday and all the others for making my first TED experience so memorable.

Shoutout to Jonathon Brun from Montreal Ouvert too, free candy is always a nice touch!

What a HUGE massive success Cupcake Camp Montreal was yesterday!! 22,000 cupcakes donated, close to 3000 attendees, over 50 volunteers and $31,000 dollars raised for Kids Help Phone and Tablée Des Chefs. The pic above represents only half the lineup that lasted from 1pm until the end of the event at 5pm when people finally had to be turned away.

Word of the day was definitely "ZOMG"

As one of the organizers of the Montreal Girl Geeks events, I'm happy to annouce that we have a new home on Wordpress. The last site (started in 2007 using Blogger) was up for a little longer than we would have liked but alas we're moved! Using a standard WP theme and a tiny bit of custom CSS this puppy is nothing complicated, and we like it that way. Who knows, maybe one day soon we'll move over to self-hosted, but for right now, we're comfy.

Like it? Hate it? Suggestions? I'm all ears.
