Loy de husan ao noor daryaba
Ma la yao takey de noor ra
stargey dakey de khanda ra
shonde dake de soror ra

yao tasveer de janan raka

da dey khud savey baghche la
yao vada de bahar gwaram
ze da navayam che janat ra

Prayer

O river of beauty and radiance! Grant me a scintilla of light;

Grant me eyes full of laughter and lips full of delight.

For this minor heart of mine, I seek a beloved’s souvenir;

O river of beauty and radiance! Grant me a scintilla of light.

For this pitch-dark sorrow’s manor, a glowing grain to quell the night;

Grant me eyes full of laughter and lips full of delight.

For this rapture and its yearning, grant me a dear beloved’s sight,

Indulge me with your greater love; grant me your gracious face’s pride.

For this being’s withered garden, I seek a covenant of spring,

I don’t ask you to grant me heaven; I’m not seeking Toor’s height.

Let this dream’s very breath and time point to its own interpretation,

Grant me the bosom of a fakir, and a heart with a shah’s elation.

Thank you for all the heartwarming comments you have been posting all these years. I agree with everyone that this website should have become a richer resource over time. Due to other preoccupations, I have not been able to update it at all.

I have shifted all our sites to WordPress because several problems were arising with our previous web host like database table errors, hacking, etc. In the process of shifting, I tried to preserve everything including your valuable comments but seem to have lost some of them.

A gentleman had offered to lend a hand in developing this site further. I don’t have the name or contact information now, and I will be happy if I can get in touch with him to discuss this matter.

1. Volunteer to scan Ghani Khan’s Kulliyaat as neatly cropped and numbered images. If someone could do that and send me the image files, I would convert them into PDF format, and promptly upload the whole Kulliyaat to the website. I think it would be a remarkable achievement to make the most significant bulk of his poetry so accessible to everyone online.

2. Search for and contribute relevant materials such as images, documents, and most importantly, Ghani Khan’s interviews at PTV Peshawar.

As a matter of course, the names of all those who are kind and generous enough to help will be duly mentioned. Share this idea with others, and if you would like to participate, please contact me.

Thanks to the tremendous hospitality of Nasreen Wali Khan (niece of Ghani Khan), Bahram and Mashaal (grandsons of Ghani Khan), I made another visit to Ghani Khan’s home in Utmanzai, Charsadda with Dr. Aftab, Dr. Fuad, and my father. Dr. Fuad was nice enough to bring along his Nikon D-70S camera; he took more than 215 pictures. I have tried to select the better ones, a total of 95 pictures through which I would like to share our pleasant experience with all of you.
