For those of you like me who have a little difficulty with small print, the investigating officer reports:

Received a call from Somerset to respond to (text removed) and speak to John (text removed) regarding positive identification on a Big Foot track. I arrived on scene and met with John. He walked wit me in the woods to show me the footprint. He showed me the area where he thought the Big Foot footprint was. I looked at the footprint. It was identified by this Officer as a bear footprint not a  Big Foot footprint. I advised John of this. He was not happy with my answer. He said he can definitely tell the difference between a bear footprint from a Big Foot footprint. At that point I decided not to argue with the gentleman any more and just processed the scene as I would normally. There are photographs of the footprint on the camera. It was observed by this officer to be a bear print. Cleared.

While visiting the Preserve Youtuber NightfallFXANS happened upon something he couldn’t explain. He’d been there many times before, but this was the fist time witnessing what he is now characterizing as “Bubble Creatures”. As you’ll see in the video, these odd blisters do in fact look like bubbles. If you pay close attention, you’ll see them undulating in the water.

Should we fear an invasion? Are these Bubble Creatures going to grow so large that they start consuming everything in their path?

Weird, wild stuff, huh?

Of course, we can be silly and cast this occurrence in a strange and eerie light, but back on earth we all know there must be an explanation. In fact, these are not bubble creatures at all, however, the question remains, what the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks are they?

Several people over at Who Forted put their minds to the task and came up with a creature known as a Bryozoan, yet if you really think about it, the bubble creatures don’t really resemble Bryozoans. That’s where I came into the picture…well, not an actual photograph, I just mean…*cough* OK, anyway, it seems that everyone was satisfied and went about their business, everyone that is, but ME! Du, du, da!

I wasn’t satisfied and felt a tremendous need to get to the bottom of this world changing phenomena! Yes, me, a simple man, not unlike a Peter Parker or a Norman Dorshmier. An veritable unknown in the field of bubble creatures, I went the extra mile and solved this predicament, HA, HA!

Actually, I just followed a link in one of the Who Forted comments and emailed the guy. His name is Doug Smith from the UMass Biology Department. Doug was kind enough to clear up the whole thing.

Our previously unknown bubble creatures are actually single celled algae containing gas. Fhew! What a load off my mind and I know how relieved you the readers must be. I can see you all losing sleep over this and I just couldn’t live with myself to have everyone in a state of continuous stress. I’m just glad it’s over and frankly, I’m exhausted! What an undertaking!

Now, I’m sure everyone wants to be educated on single celled algae, right? Right? No? How about I tell you about my 6th grade biology teacher instead? He was about 94 yrs old and referred to us as carpet baggers. He often referenced his daughter who it seems didn’t care for him much either. Now, who wants to hear about my History teacher? Hello? Anyone?

OK, so it’s not that exciting, but it was an itch I had to scratch and I took you guys along for the ride. Now get off my back…and into my heart! Remember that song? Doesn’t it go that way? No? Oh crap! Now I have another dilemma to solve….Supersleuthing powers, activate!

Are they even trying anymore?

We’ve been covering videos of these so-called Close Circuit Television ghosts for quite awhile now. Over the years we found that most of these “ghosts” can easily be explained by moths and other insects crawling around on the lens of the camera. Then there are those that look less like a bug and more like the end product of some low-budget Hollywood shop. You can’t help but shake your head at their attempt (or lack thereof) to hoax a ghost.

But why bore you with these stories, let’s check out one of the latest of these CCTV Ghost videos that is spooking folks out there.

Spooky CCTV footage showing a ghostly figure leaving a community centre in north-west London is creating a stir online.

The video shows a slim man suddenly appear outside the entrance of South Ruislip Community Association and Community Centre on February 1.

It captures the transparent figure walking calmly towards a metal railing before seemingly disappearing into thin air.

The strange moment was reportedly witnessed by the centre’s caretaker who went outside to investigate.

‘I was sitting inside the hall and noticed a figure on the front CCTV camera,’ the caretaker is quoted as saying in the video.

‘I looked up at the screen and thought I saw a person but wasn’t sure so went out to check.’

He added: ‘I went outside and no one was there but I thought they might have quickly walked around the side of the building into the park so I just went back in.

‘After downloading the CCTV footage I was surprised to see that the figure had been recorded onto the system.

‘I can’t explain this.’

Inspired by Henry’s post: Yet Another Dead Bigfoot

A joint statement will be released tomorrow in regards to the “Bigfoot shot in PA rumor.” One of the investigators on the case has a meeting with an officer from the municipal police department. Some very interesting information was shared with us today that confirms my thoughts. Details to be released tomorrow evening.

There is a rumor circulating that another bigfoot has been shot and killed by a turkey hunter in the woods around Altoona Pennsylvania.

So far it is only rumors and Bigfoot Evidence is posting this statement.

At this point all this is rumor and a claim. Once I have more info and more details, I’ll update you. I can confirm we are investigating this claim, but as of right now. That’s all it is, is a claim. We do not have any information or proof to support this claim. Once I have more information that I can confirm, I will let you know. Until we do, no further rumors will be released. We do not want to jeopardize any possible legitimate information at this time.

The local newspaper, the Altoona Mirror has nothing on this story, and IF reports are to be believed that this story was overheard on a police scanner, according to sources who attributted to the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society Facebook Page

“You guys might want to check out the Somerset County state police call log,” he wrote. “I heard a call come over my scanner [saying that] a gobbler hunter shot a Bigfoot this morning and they did find a body. This is no joke, that call was real. ”

Then I should suspect that something would appear in the police log or newspaper for the area and I find nothing. And while  I also did not find the quote above on the P.B.S Facebook page, what I did find was a report from last month.

Upon further investigation, PBS.member Dave Rupert upon follow up learned that the Clearfield River road reports were a publicity stunt for the upcoming unveiling by a local artist of a 12 foot tall bigfoot statue to be put on display in the local park. Sorry folks, no Bigfoot on this one, but there are still reports that come out of Clearfield County. Good.work Dave!

Of course this is only going to fuel conspiracy and cover-up accusations. I will keep looking but am not holding my breath on this one.

In a study from the Natural Environment Research Council in the UK

Plants use underground fungal networks to warn their neighbours of aphid attack, UK scientists have discovered.

The study, published this week in Ecology Letters, is the first to reveal plants’ ability to communicate underground in this way.

The research, funded by a NERC studentship with Rothamsted Research, changes our understanding of the ways in which living things interact with one another. If crops can be managed in a way that exploits this natural communication channel, it could provide a new weapon in the battle against insect pests.

Scientists from the University of Aberdeen, the James Hutton Institute and Rothamsted Research grew the bean plant (Vicia faba) in groups of five. They allowed three in each group to grow underground networks of mycelia – a thread-like fungus that grows from one set of roots to another. They kept the two remaining plants free of the fungal links.

They then infested one of the plants in each group with aphids, triggering the release of a suite of chemicals designed to repel aphids but attract wasps, one of the aphid’s predators.

Remarkably, plants which were not under attack themselves, but which were connected to the victim by the underground fungal network, also began to produce the defensive chemical response. Unconnected plants didn’t mount a chemical defence, so remained vulnerable to aphid attack.

Previous research had shown that plants could communicate chemically through the air, but the researchers covered the plants with bags to rule out above-ground signalling.

“We knew that plants produce volatile chemicals when attacked, and we knew they communicate danger to each other above ground. Now we know that they communicate danger through these underground fungal networks as well. Connected plants that weren’t infested by the aphids behaved as though they were. We don’t quite know the mechanism, but it’s likely to be a chemical signal.”

“Our understanding of ecological systems has not considered the fact that plants are interconnected in this way. It could have major implications for our understanding of how one organism affects another,”

The roots of virtually all groups of plants, including important food crops such as wheat, rice, maize and barley, are colonised by symbiotic fungi.

Another of the study’s authors, Professor John Pickett of Rothamsted Research, an independent research institute strategically funded by the BBSRC, says, “Aphids affect all higher-latitude agricultural regions, including the UK, the EU, North America, and North East Asia. This research could provide a new, sustainable and natural intervention. In a field of plants that have some inducible resistance to aphids, we could use a plant that’s susceptible to aphid attack to ‘switch on’ the defence mechanism through the natural underground connection. There’s the potential to deal with other pests and diseases, in other regions, in a similar way.”

Among the oldest living organism on Earth is called Pando, also known as The Trembling Giant, a clonal colony of a single male Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides) determined to be a single living organism by identical genetic markers and one massive underground root system. The root system of Pando is estimated 80,000 years old. Some experts speculate that Pando’s reign since 1992 as the heaviest-known organism may be short lived. Less well-studied Quaking Aspens in Utah may be 80 hectares in extent and one million years old.

Kind of adds a whole new level to the story of a haunted forest doesn’t it?

Mayan pyramid bulldozed by Belize construction crew
Officials in Belize say a construction company has destroyed one of the country’s largest Mayan pyramids.

Only the core of the pre-Columbian mound was left standing

Head of the Belizean Institute of Archaeology Jaime Awe said the Noh Mul temple was levelled by a road-building company seeking gravel for road filler.

The Mayan temple dates back to pre-Columbian times and is estimated to be 2,300 year old. Only a small core of the pyramid was left standing.

Police said they were investigating the incident.

Archaeologists said this was not the first incident of its kind.

“Bulldozing Maya mounds for road fill is an endemic problem in Belize,” Prof Normand Hammond told the Associated Press news agency.

Archaeologists said they were alerted to the destruction late last week.

The Maya complex lies on private land but under Belizean law, any pre-Hispanic ruins come under government protection.

Dr John Morris of the Belizean Institute of Archaeology said the workers would have been aware of what they were doing.

“It is incredible that someone would actually have the gall to destroy this building out here,” he told local TV channel News 7.

“There is absolutely no way that they would not know that these are Maya mounds,” he said about the ancient structure.

Prosecutors said they were considering bringing criminal charges against the construction company.

A loss like this is certainly a potential blow to our knowledge of the past, our picture of Mayan culture, heck their calendars alone are worth having around for entertainment value if nothing else, but before anyone starts criticizing the locals of Belize for this destruction, look a little deeper.

The economy of Belize is based on tourism and exports, both of which increase foreign influences upon development.

A major constraint on a functioning market economy in Belize continues to be the scarcity of infrastructure investments. Although electricity, telephone, and water utilities are all relatively good, Belize has the most expensive electricity in the region. Large tracts of land which would be suitable for development are inaccessible due to lack of roads.

Want to find assign blame for this destruction? It is with the people who create the demand that the Belize economy is based on and never ask how that demand is being met, not with the people who try to fill that demand in order to attain the same standard of living set by those who want cheap and plentiful produce from countries like this. Just my opinion.

Planet Nibiru to pass Earth by August 2013

Now, I will preface this article by saying that the content shown is not my bag, per-say. In fact, I tend to avoid paranormal subjects as a rule. It’s just not something I excel at. However, there are a handful of articles every year in which I dabble in the land of ghosts and things that go bump in the night.

During my search yesterday, I came across a photo gallery. Slightlywarped.com was nice enough to gather up a compendium of spooky ghost pictures and put them all neatly on one page. So, who am I not to reward them by further viralizing (not a real word) their content? Why, I’d be a fool not to spread their wares…I think…

The following pictorial is a gallery of nothing but (alleged) ghosts. Yes, you may have seen some of them and of course, a couple have been maligned as being hoaxes, but there are plenty which are unexplained to this day.

I’ve done no analysis on any of these photos, so if you are looking for a debunking, it’s probably going to be you that’s doing it. Then again, that’s why we have a comments section, right?

Most freaky to me is the last one, which I also used as the featured image. The “alleged dead mother” crawling on the floor gets my vote for second.
