Regional School of Public Administration

At Apogee we love Open Source systems. Quite often we use libraries (like jQuery) or whole systems (like Horde) in cases where we would be just re-inventing the wheel and the open source solution more than covers our needs.

Open source content management systems are an easy and quick way to get a web site on the air. But at times as they are trying to provide something for everyone they end up with overcrowded interfaces with a million features that are not used.

We were recently asked to convert one such site to the Essence platform. With a final implementation time of a few days (from database conversion to content clearing up) we provided a site with the same functionality as before but with a much more concrete administration interface, removing the need for a specialized administrator to manage the content.

Client: Regional School of Public Administration (ReSPA)

Guinness
That's a proper advertisement

Is it possible to budget a yearly marketing plan of your products/services without considering of having the best advertisement, proving your philosophy and your qualities?

Take a look at the attached lined. Guinness, one of the most famous beers world wide, does not speak about how thirsty you were before having the beer or happy you will get afterward but about life qualities.

Think of that for a sec...

arvanitidis

Half of Greece is on vacations and the other half is waiting for it's turn to come. Meanwhile, development at Apogee goes on as usual. We are glad to present the web site of the Arvanitidis Winery:

Arvanitidis Winery was created in 1999 by the agronomist Thanassis Arvanitidis and his brother George.

Today, the privately owned vineyard covers an area of 5 ha and is steadily expanding. The aim of the owners is to vinify grapes only from privately owned vineyards, in order to fully control their quality

sorry kitten
Just say the word! (c)

Following the embarrassing story of Amazon remotely deleting books from people's Kindles without much notice, the company took heavy criticism on it's tactic. Today, a lesson in treating your customers and turning a negative situation into a positive once was given as this was posted by Jeff Bezos on the Amazon Kindle forum:

This is an apology for the way we previously handled illegally sold copies of 1984 and other novels on Kindle. Our "solution" to the problem was stupid, thoughtless, and painfully out of line with our principles. It is wholly self-inflicted, and we deserve the criticism we've received. We will use the scar tissue from this painful mistake to help make better decisions going forward, ones that match our mission.

With deep apology to our customers,

Jeff Bezos
Founder & CEO
Amazon.com

At the moment of writing 97% of Amazon users approved the post. ;)

roller babies
Could you think of that?

Viral marketing continues to entertain us (and annoys us some times when it's badly executed), but here is a great example: Evian has a series of YouTube videos showing cute CGI babies dancing and jumping around with rollies. A month since the posting has started, the videos has been watched over 22 million times.

Details: Music is a remix of Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight", Ad agency: BETC Euro RSCG, Production company: Partizan, Director: Michael Gracey
See the main video below, and also check out the original Evian Babies ad from 1998.
