It almost seams as though they have a magical extra hour or two in their day. I always wondered how those people got so much more done. I also wondered how or if I could become one of those people. The answer was of course, yes! The first step to becoming one of those highly effective and productive people is to read Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy. more »

Unique Page Titles

When you search for something in Google, the blue link you see is the title of the page it is listing. For many visitors, that link is a major deciding factor in whether or not they click on the link. Because of that, it is very important to put a good unique title on each page of your site. more »

KIS Your Contact Form

I’m a big fan of simple. I like simple business cards, simple math, simple recipes for dinner, and I especially like simple contact forms on a website. For many people, when they visit your site, all they are looking for is a way to contact you, so make that process simple. more »

Contact Link in the Same Place

If you were to look through my portfolio and look at the contact link in the main navigation on just about every one of them, you’d find it to be the far right link in just about all of them. The reason for this is simple – it’s where most people expect to find it. more »

Choosing the Right Keywords

About five years ago when Giantseed Creative was started, I described the company more as a web developer than a web designer. There were some of the pages on the site that were written with the keyword or phrase “web developer.” One problem – when people were searching for a company like Giantseed Creative in Google, that wasn’t what they were searching for, they were searching for ‘web designer.’ more »

Get In the Zone

Sometimes when I sit down to write a blog, nothing happens. I can have a great topic picked out and some notes even jotted down in my blogging notebook, but nothing gets written. I should add this one note – that usually only happens when I write in my office. Once I realized that I don’t write well in my office, I quit writing there and started looking for different places to write, places that I could get in a certain writing zone. more »

Know What You Sell

Do you know what you sell? When you are writing your blogs, don’t write them for the search engines, write them for your readers. more »

Left Hand Navigations

When you look at most websites that have been published in the past five years, one thing you’d notice is that most sites have the main navigation going horizontally across the top of the site. Before then, some sites had the main navigation going vertically down the left hand side of the page. Vertical navigations really don’t fit in many current designs, and for very good reason. more »

Clean Your Office

A few months back I listened to a podcast that promised to quickly and easily boost my creativity and productivity. The only thing they recommended to do in the podcast was to keep your office clean. I was so disappointed. But then I realized that my office wasn’t as clean as it could be. The next morning I got in to the office about an hour early and cleaned. I got my office well organized and well laid out. That day, I saw my productivity skyrocket. The next day I found that my creativity was higher than usual when I was working on some designs. more »
