Suno sa aton katigulangan, ang La Carlota sadto isa ka kagubatan, tama kasi-ot, mariit, ginapuy-an sang mga mabangis nga mga sapat. Bahin lamang sang San Enrique ang La Carlota sadto. Ini nga lugar ginahingalanan nga Mangkas kuha sa ngalan ni Mangtas. Nangin Mangkas ang pagtawag ina bangod sa paglakat sang mga dinag-on, nasahuan na lamang nga tawgon sina kay amo ang kalabanan nga masambit sang mga tumandok.

Sin-o si Mangtas?

Si Mangtas isa ka bansagon nga tulisan. Iya ginapamunu-an ang tribo sang mga Ati kag Maghat. Masami sila nagasalakay sa kahigaran sang kadagatan kasubong sang Tinubogan ukon Tinubagan sa karon San Enrique. The Foundling of the City of La Carlota

Is it left to oblivion? The people of La Carlota seem to confuse when to celebrate it.

La Carlota is anciently known as Simantas or Mangkas. It's a barrio under the jurisdiction of Tinubagan, a neighboring town now known as San Enrique. It's formally established as a separate town in 1871 and named as Carlota in honor of the wife of a Spanish conquestador Enrique.

As it progresses in terms of sugarcane business and economy, the concerned town officials led by the late Mayor Jaime Mariño proposed that La Carlota be converted to a city. To this effect, the committee concerned had conducted a hearing on March 14, 1964. It was attended by various businessmen, civic and educational organizations, sugarcane planters and barrio officials. And it's unanimoisly endorsed.

And a report of the hearing was submitted to the House of Senate at the same time informing congressmen Ferrer, Gustilo and Gatuslao.
And Mayor Jaime Mariño received a telegram informing him that House Bill No. 9711, otherwise known as the "CITY CHARTER OF LA CARLOTA" was duly approved.

A plebiscite was held along with the general elections on November 9, 1965 with the supervision of the Comelec. And the results favored the conversion of the municipality of La Carlota to a city.

And on January 2, 1966, a change of government took effect as provided by the Charter. The incumbent mayor, vice mayor and members of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of La Carlota continue in the said office until their present terms of office expire.

The founding fathers are Mayor Jaime F. Marino and Vice Mayor Prospero C. Rojo, City Councilors Loreto V. Valera, Manuel C. de los Reyes, Jose A. Liansing, Anacleto C. Jereza Jr., Jose Y. Jalandoni, Jose R. Ferrer, Renato L. Sofio and Emilio M. Zaldivar.

Charter Day in question

In the plenary session of the La Carlota SP held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, the newly installed Vice Mayor David Baga, Jr. in his privilege speech touched the issue of the uncertainty of the date which the City Charter Day of La Carlota to be celebrated.

He said on June 19, 1965, the R.A. 4585 was enacted into law creating the cityhood of La Carlota. In the said law, January 2, 1966 was the formal organization of new city government. He moved that a committee may study this and recommend to the body the appropriate date for the city charter day celebration to clear the doubt and to be definite for certainty.

This has been brought up for the Charter Day celebration seems to be forgotten. As far as I could remember it's January 2 that we celebrated it. It's good if this would be observed again. It would be best opportune time to give due honor to the fathers and founders of the La Carlota cityhood. And also to recognize outstanding Mangkasanon in terms of business, community service, education, among others.

La Carlota City is 54 years old now. Long live La Carlota City.

Mayor Jacky's Celebration of Life

Mayor Jacky

On December 15, 1967, Luis De Jesus Jalandoni lll was born to Luis "Nonoy" Ginete Jalandoni, Jr., scion of notable Jalandoni family of La Carlota City and Corazon Calibo De Jesus of Butuan City. The bouncing baby boy was nicknamed "Lucky" which evolved to "Jucky" or "Jacky". He is the fourth-born child of six siblings, namely, Jeanne Louise, Jolanda Maria Angela, Jan Peter Vincent, Julie Ann Catherine and Joseph Martin Anthony.

By 1968, Nonoy Jalandoni became the City Mayor and the family home in Hda. Cristina would always be filled with people. Jacky himself doing sports, especially football where he excelled the most as a defense winger.

Mayor Jacky studied at the University of Saint La Salle, Bacood as a football player and sports scholar from grade school until his graduation from college with a Bachelor Degree in Commerce major in Management in 1996.

He is married to Josefina Alvarez Alonso. Adding hope and inspiration in his life were his children - Diego, Martina Louise, and Alexandra Ysabella.

He joined government service in 1998 when he was elected as Sangguniang Panlungsod member and eventually elected as Mayor in 2001. From 2004-2013, he served as SP member again and by July 2013, he was elected as Vice Mayor. He was the Mayor since 2016 until his untimely demise on January 2020.

Service to La Carloteños is always Mayor Jacky's priority as reflected in his "La Carlota First" policy. He paved the way for Pasalamat Thanksgiving Festival to be long remembered by the Negrenses through a "Culture and the Arts Award" vested to deserving students of a local secondary schools.

The welfare of the youth is closest to Mayor Jacky's heart. He made sure that there will be more classrooms and child-friendly environment in schools. His legacy continues in the lives of hundred scholars he gifted with education.

Mayor Jacky is approachable, accommodating, humble and sincere in dealings with his constituents.

Hon. Luis Jalandoni lll spent his life with a purpose to serve La Carlota City. But the La Carloteños will be forever inspired and fondly remember his name - JACKY.

Mayor Jacky's demise lies in state at the La Carlota City gym for public viewing starting January 11 till January 12. By January 13 in the morning he will be transferred to Bacolod until his internment.

The Mayor

Some of the people of La Carlota City were shocked of receiving messages in their messenger that Mayor Jacky died.

I was shocked of receiving that message too. I would like to confirm it for it might be a fake news. I asked personally some of my friends even tricycle drivers. And they had known it known it too.

I went to the plaza in the afternoon. There I saw the Philippine flag is hoisted half-staff. It's only raised that way to show respect for a person who died especially a government officials like the mayor.

Then I was convinced. I felt sorry about it.

Who is Mayor Jacky?

The myLa Carlota, the official FB page of La Carlota City came out a news about the death of Mayor Jacky, Thursday, January 8.

The mayor, Luis J. Jalandoni IIl died at the age 52 of lingering illness.

He has served the city government as a mayor for two terms: 2001-2004 and 2016 for unfinished term.

Before became mayor, the soft spoken Jacky had served as Sangguniang Panlungsod member.

Mayor Jacky is survived by his wife, Fini, and his three children Martina Louise, Diego and Alexandra Ysabella.

He has left a legacy of good governance. He's well remembered by his accomplishments in infra projects, livelihood, health, education, among others.

Because of his untimely death, the city mourns.

A man of commitment

I remember when I was the head teacher of Caiñaman Elementary School sometime in 2002. He visited us while we're having a PTA meeting and we're discussing and finding solutions to basic school problems. One was about the water supply. The pupils would have to fetch water from a nearby water pump or from nearby creek.

After greeting the parents and teachers, he delivered a short message. He assured that the school would have a water connection from La Carlota City Water District. Though it would take time for there's no budget yet, the school will have it.

Just a span of two weeks the personnel of LCCWD made a survey of the school as to where the water supply line would be placed. I asked one of them if it's Mayor Jacky's project. And the answer was yes. The Mayor got a credit from us just to let the school has its water supply.

I am convinced what Mayor committed he had to serve and complete it. That's how Mayor for us, the pupils, the parents and the teachers for the welfare of everybody in school.

Thank you, Mayor Jacky. We will miss you.

How I Manually Get Rid of Holiday Greetings Scam?

Due to curiosity and I don't want to embarrass my friends in Facebook, I read and open their messages, especially their Christmas greetings for it's a Christmas season. I take time out of replying of them.

Tonight while my youngest son, his wife and I were having our dinner in one of eateries at the public plaza he told me about this wish-you Christmas greetings withan email icon seen usually via messenger or phone. I said there were so many I received from my friends but I didn't mind. Not until my closed friend forwarded one to me and I opened it.

This Christmas holiday greetings had made me worry for the first time while dealing with my Social media friends and followers. And I am referring to wish-you holiday greetings I opened recently. It's a security risk.

It has been said that Wish-you.co is a page-redirecting and ad-generating software that can easily integrate with popular browsers like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera and Safari. It has pointed out that once it's installed, the default browser’s homepage or the search engine would be changed and woukd install a sponsored one in its place.

My junior son said it is a holiday greetings scam. He told me change or reset right away my password in Facebook. I tried for the first attempt and I failed. For the 2nd and 3rd time I did fail. I was using my mobile phone at that time.

Now I tried using my elder daughter's desktop computer. I attempted to login to my dismay I couldn't make it. I made another move by resetting it via my email account and waiting for the 6-code. I checked my email there's no message. I did it for the 2nd try, no message.

I seemed to worry. Nevertheless I could still use my FB account for I didn't log out yet. My last recourse is to reset my password by using my cellphone's number. I did it and waited for my phone to sound but none no 6-digit code received. I did it for the 2nd. I received no message.

I referred my problem to my junior son. He said why checked your email. I told him desperately that nothing to hope for. So I worried. For the last advice my son said why not try to open you spam email folder.

Presto! It's there.

I copied immediately the code and the password reset facility popped up. I encoded my new password of a combination of letters and numbers. I made it as strong as possible.

After I did it, I went to my latest activity. I read that something was unhealthy a activity which I didn't normally make it. To secure more about my FB account I was asked to change again my password and I did. Then I was asked to log out from my other accounts which my FB is connected. And I did.

I finally log out from the desktop computer and log in using my mobile phone. I successfully logged in. Now I have the peace of mind.

The lesson I learned that it's dangerous to open any forwarded messages from my friends or from my family if they come from unknown sites.

Hope you learn your lesson too.

3 Easy Ways of Writing

Writing though takes some skills to get into what we want to communicate could be done in three simple ways. These things we learned from our late Grade 6 English-and-grammar teacher. She's our class adviser.



Since we're required to write a composition in various themes, we struggled to overcome our limited writing knowledge on writing. Every month we kept on rewriting and rewriting what we'd written. In doing so, we'd learned from her to write simply is to observe the 3-paragraph method. And we appreciated it as we're developing our skill in writing.

3-Paragraph Method

The first paragraph is the introduction. It's usually a 3-or-more simple sentence. It summarises what is the idea or the thought in the following paragraph. It should point out the interesting point of view. This would arouse the reader's interest to finish reading the article. This has challenged us on how to do it.

The second is the body.

"The meat of the matter" is the body of what we're writing, according to her. She encouraged us to write in the active voice. The subject of the sentence is the one doing the action. It gives the "power" of the "doer". This is the hardest way as the intermediate pupil to handle. This may be written in more than 3 paragraphs.

And the third is the conclusion.

She told us that the last paragraph is the restatement of the introduction. We learned how to paraphrase it. This is where we put our personal reaction, the commitment of what is being written. As a general rule, we followed the number of sentences of the introduction.

Bonus

She taught us how to make our writing colourful and effective by using appropriate action verbs and adjectives. She cautions us to use negative in the sentence sparingly. And the last, she kept on telling us to observe the subject-verb agreement.

I would like to thank, Miss Lilia Garin for these things I learned from her. She's my grade 6 class adviser and my English subject teacher.

Our youngest son, Gilbor Jr. and his wife, Carissa have spent a day and stayed overnight at Bugana Beach and Diving Resort grandeur hotel recently as a gesture of the company for my son's hardwork in his job as a team lead and lead developer of G.O. Green Enterprise, Inc.

Buganâ is an Ilonggo term which means plenty or prosperous. In the said place in Sipalay, there are many things which nature may offer to anyone. And one is the Buganâ Beach.

"It's a wonderful experience in a place we call paradise. Everything is perfect from accomodation, food, amenities, recreation, sceneries, and surrounded with awesome people. There's nothing more we can ask for," expressed Gilbor Jr. in his Facebook page.

He's so grateful for his company's token of gratefulness. He knows God's bounty is for those who deserve it. And he's one of those who are blessed.

Inexplicable Feelings to Serving Special Kids in Scouting

Nearly hundred boy and girl scouts of La Carlota SPED (Special Education) Integrated School had undergone two-day scouting activities.

I was honored to be their trainer/discussant on the basic scouting movement in our country Philippines. These scouts which are composed of hearing impaired, deaf and mute, fast learners come from grades 1 to 6 and high school level.

They had learned the value of their scout uniform and recited the scout oath and law, executed scout salute and scout handshake. They had composed their own patrol songs and yells.

I was overwhelmed of the recognition given me by the school head, Gilda C. Lastimosa as well as with their boy scouts coordinator, Raymond V. Japitana and girl scouts coordinator, Sarah M. Armigos as their scouting discussant and resource person for their culminating scouting activities.

Any scouting activities is not complete without the rain. Somewhere in the mountain the rain clouds were visibly forming. The cool land breeze was already soothing the very skin of the scouts.

Without waiting for the afternoon rain to fall, the various patrol like Maya, Ostrich, Kuring, Kabayo, Butterfly, Agila, Bangus, Tuloy started to form and assembled at their rallying point to kick off their torch parade.

All lighted torches were put off as I started to invoke the 4 basic elements for man's existence like air, water, soil and fire (which came) after shouting:

SILENCE! SILENCE! SILENCE!

Fire from the North. It is awakened by us from his deep sleep because of the FRIENDSHIP that we show among ourselves as scouts and scouters of this humble institution of SPED Integrated School.

Fire from the South. It is in himself to have his rest when he has moved by us because of the INTEREST that we have shown among us scouts to build a character which is exemplary especially before the eyes of our God.

Fire from the East. It is tapped by us from his long inactivity somewhere in the east because of the RESPECT that we give to our family and to the people in the community where we live in.

Fire from West. It is attracted by us to join here out of his busy moment because of the ENTHUSIASM that we keep upon ourselves to make us alive, happy and complete as we are to begin the Campfire's activities of songs and yells of the scouts of La Carlota City SPED Integrated School.

Now we have the virtual FIRE of Friendship, Interest, Respect, and Enthusiasm. And the physical fire which m is burning. While the fire keeps on burning the scouts were singing "Campfire's Burning".

The YARN or Scouter's Minute

I lectured on the importance of empty chair at the center of the campfire area. It is ritually referred to the great scout of all time especially the founder Lord Baden Powell.

This is the first time that I had conducted scouting activities to these special boy and girl scouts who persons with disability. They're too enthusiastic and energetic. I enjoyed their camaraderie.

They're indeed SPECIAL that needs to be cared of by a normal people and scouting is one of the best opportunities for them to be treated as a normal individual.

I am so grateful for the unconditional support of Mam Gilda C. Lastimosa, Head Teacher and a great salute to the cooperation of the SPED teachers like Reymond Japitana, Sarah Armigos, Jocelyn Niere, Monica dela Cruz, Rovi Rodrigo, Adolfo Española, and Nilda cabrera.

And the wonderful students' parents for their all-support to the success of this SPED IS Scouting activities.

What a surprise for my wife's and I's birthday!

The wife of our youngest son, Ma. Carissa is one of our thoughtful family members who had planned out for a surprised synchronous birthday celebration for my wife and me.

Synchronous 68th Birthday

Inday Rose, the best friend of our 2nd daughter told me to wake up early in our natal day. I was flabbergasted why should I have to get up in bed early.

Actually a day before our birthday I had sent message to all our children that we wouldn't celebrate our birthday for I don't have a budget for it. But it turned out that it hadn't work.

The following day my family got thronged at our family service versavan. Everyone had their foods to bring. Only my wife and I brought nothing.

We're traveling going north for more then 2 hours. I was thinking that we held the party at Mambucal Summer Resort for we're heading to the town of Murcia, but I was mistaken for we changed route and headed to Don Salvador Benedicto town with a hilly and circuitous road to tread.

This Is the Place

A serene, quite place we entered along the shoulder of zigzag road of purok Kulasi, Brgy. Kumaliskis, Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB). There are two swimming pools, one for the adults and another for the kids. The pools are full of cool water coming from a mountain spring which the resort got her name, Balokon.

The surprise started to unfold when everyone assembled together to Dakubo, a cottage for 20 persons. A short program was conducted by our youngest son, Gilbor Junior with Toto Bryan offered the prayer of thanksgiving.

Two boxes of cake were opened. One for my wife and another for myself with two-number candles, 6 and 8. Our youngest daughter, Geegee lighted the candles and my wife and I blew them together. Everybody sang the Happy Birthday song. At the closing of the song, my wife and I held our hands, looked at each other eyes, took a big hug and a sweet kiss.

My wife gave a short message on how happy and grateful she was for the thoughtfulness of her children, grandchildren, and in-laws. Now it's my turn to share my unforgettable life story which started from birth certificate to marriage certificate.

Our grandchildren and adopted children gave us a sachet of powder milk in a gift wrap.

Inday Rose gave me a pair of crocs slippers. Gingging gave a dress to her mother.

Inday Carissa and Toto Jun presented to us a gift wrapped huge box. My wife and I opened up to our surprise. It's a 2-burner gas stove. I became emotional for it's the kitchen handy friend my wife needs in replacement of old defective one.

An an, our 3rd daughter prepared for us a delicious cupcakes, puddings, other foods for our lunch. Dona, our eldest daughter prepared the marinated bangus and special, delicious buko salad.

The kids composed of Angel, Inday Sophie, and RR danced to the tune of "Kill This Love" by Black Pink with Rose, Gingging and Ryan as backup dancers, and also they sang "Nasa Puso" popularized by Janine Berdin.

The Camporazo-Jaud family composed of Bulaklak, Panie, Inday Sophie, An An and Tipoy performed a dance number to the tune of "Boom, Boom" by Momoland.

The Camporazo-Tolones family composed of Dona and Almon rendered a song, "That's What Friends Are For" popularized by Dionne Warwick.

While Toto Jun, Inday Carissa, Toto Bryan and Geegee, they danced to the tune of "Baby's Shark" by PinkFong.

Happy Time

After a hearty lunch the kids went to the pool to swim while some of the adults they took energy drinks and dance the popular Budot dance.

My wife joined the group having some games in the pool after lunch. I enjoyed watching them.

My wife and I were happy together as we celebrate our 68th day at Balokon Spring Resort as a surprise birthday treat of our children. What a memorable family party we have had. Not only two of us but everybody enjoyed the fun.

"Happy Birthday, Nanay and Tatay," everybody shouted with glee.

We went home past three in the afternoon.

Reflection on diligence, invaluable service as teacher, educator

The feeling is inexplicable once a teacher has received a simple handwritten card from her pupil. I couldn't forget this moment. In my possession right now, I have still the handwritten personal messages of my grade 5 and 6 pupils in La Carlota City Elementary School 1 sometime in 1991. I have kept them safe in my box at home.

These pupils are already have their own job, have their children to raise. They have their own family to take care of but yet they never miss to remember me. Even in the Facebook, they are still communicating with me.

The card above, which is given by one of our pupils in Balabag Elementary School of La Carlota that I have had received 3 years ago has been kept by myself. This would serve a remembrance from that school. The last school I have by the time I retire from the service last october 14, 2016.

The card that we receive as the teacher and as the principal of the pupils reflects our diligence, dedication and invaluable service in molding them to be a useful, gainful member of his family, and a law-abiding citizen of the country.

My appreciation is due to all the parents, the pupils and to our supportive Punong Barangay Joel E, Rumbines, and our benevolent stakeholder, City Councilor David T. Baga, Jr. I know I am missing them for I am already retired .

October 5, the World Teachers' Day has kept us reminding the mission and the commitment we have had as teachers being the moulders of the children especially the youths.

We know teaching is no greater call as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

My 'Thinking Place'

I could relate much on this. I remember when I was studying in college sometime in the 80s, I used to spend my time studying in our public school toilet.

Thinking Place

You know public school toilet isn't properly maintained. You can still smell the bad odor coming out from the improvised opening receptacle for the waste.

I stayed outside the uncomfortable room and started studying my notes on various subjects for the exams. It became my habit to go there a day or two before my exams date.

During the exams, I prayed before taking them and started to answer the questions. When I forgot some answers, the pungent smell, the uncleanness of the room posed a good reminder of what I have studied, of what I had memorized while I was in the public school toilet. It's the best thinking place for me.

I completed my 4-year degree course in college with flying colors because of that dirty unsanitary comfort room as my "thinking place" but I was lucky I didn't get sick.

Scripture Thought

The scripture thought I shared is aptly applicable for the Preschool Convention of the Seminary & Institute of Religion teachers under the La Carlota Philippines District of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently.

The 13th Chapter of the Book of Matthew, verses 3 to 9 of the New Testament of the Bible described the various learners of the Word of God. It's likened to the parable of the sower.

Live, Teach, Administer

Church Educational System coordinator Noel T. Batac reoriented the teachers in the Church branches in Ayungon, Masville, La Carlota First, La Carlota 2nd, and Manggaspang on the purpose of teaching Seminary & Institute of Religion for school year 2019-2020.

"Live, Teach, Act" are the approaches to effectively teach the New Testament courses in this school year.

Plan of Salvation

Bro. Batac well expounded the plan of salvation by presenting it as a covenant map by tracing a covenant path from premortal existence to the different degrees of glory such as celestial kingdom, terrestrial, and telestial. And it's a life-long process.

In so doing, there are three principles may be gained in which the "rising generation" may know, love, and live. They're as follows:

1. Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
2. The sons and daughters of God have eternal identity and purpose.
3. All things on which Jesus Christ puts His name are part of the plan.

The teachers reacted favorably in the manner they could teach it to their students on how they could do it. Everyone shared their best experience.

For the new generation, the S&I courses are designed to help the youths and young adults understand and rely on the teachings and atonement of Jesus Christ, qualify for the blessings of the temple, and prepare themselves for eternal life.

The teachers interaction are very fruitful. Thr Seminary teachers are composed of Maria Luz Gatucao and Juliet Ubas of La Carlota 2nd, Jeanalyn Lisaca of Masville and Melissa Jane Sison of Ayungon Branch.

And the Institute teachers are Katherine Agreda of La Carlota 2nd, Kaye Stephanie Marabe of Masville, Carlo Rebelde of Manggaspang, and Gil Camporazo of La Carlota 1st branch.

Arnel Baquinquito, the District S&I supervisor conducted the opening and the closing of the said preschool convention held at La Carlota meetinghouse.

Reorganization: 'Blessing in Keeping the Covenants'

The La Carlota First Branch Presidency of La Carlota District, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was reorganized today during the Branch Conference of the said branch presided by Bacolod Philippines Mission, President Sumagpao.

Keeping the Covenants

As a concluding speaker in the said conference, President Sumagpao counseled the new Branch Presidency so as with the members to keep the covenants they have made before the Lord when they became member of the Church.

He expressed that they should do something with their one-time love and care for there is blessing in keeping their covenants. In every covenant there is a blessing and the greatest blessing is eternal life.

La Carlota First Branch Reorganization

President Mario A. Malacaman of La Carlota District under the direction of President Sumagpao sustained Brother Benedicto N. Santillan as the new Branch President of La Carlota 1st Branch with his counselor, Brother Ric N. Baldonado after the release of President Jimboy D. Loreto as Branch President together with his two counselors: President Joel S. Vergara and President Pacifico B. Billones.

Brother Santillan is a member of the Church for 35 years for he was baptized on September 1984. And brother Baldonado is a member of the Church for 30 years since his baptism on October 1989.

President Loreto has been serving the Branch since September 4, 2011 when he was released.

Words of Gratefulness

Being emotional, President Loreto expressed his gratefulness in serving the Branch for 8 years. He was sustained as Branch President on September 4, 2011.

Spiritually concern of the well-being of the member, he exhorted the members to come to Christ and expect that trials may come along the way in serving the Lord. He concluded that the principles about the Gospel should be applied for they are important.

President Santillan took his turn too in expressing his gratefulness as being the new Branch President of La Carlota 1st. He said that in the Church there are many things to do especially in serving the Lord. But prayer and service could make things easier, he said.

Sharing Responsibility Making Things Light and Easy

"Helping people to help themselves" is the underlying principle of Church program on Self-Reliance and Welfare. This is the answer to the one of the major concerns of the La Carlota District of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

President Mario A. Malacaman of La Carlota District disclosed that genuine concern of the members in the recent District Conference held at La Carlota Meetinghouse to Elder Carlos G. Revillo, Jr. of the Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints, who presided over the said conference.

Immediate Action Taken

To address that concern, brother Erwin J. Boiser as the Church Self-Reliance and Welfare coordinator was tapped by Elder Revillo, Jr.

A-day-and-a-half training/seminar on Self-reliance and Welfare project was conducted to this effect aligned with the 2019 priority goals of the Church such obey, covenant and establish.

On Self-Reliance

A comprehensive powerpoint presentation on the various programs of the Church based on the revealed truths from the scripture put the attentive participants in place on what to do to become self-reliant by adapting the various tools such as preparing for a better job, starting and growing a business, and managing personal finance.

In so doing, the member has now acquired the skill or expertise. Therefore he must now decide for himself, for his own "path."

Welfare Program

The Church would never leave the members to be unattended for their welfare so that they are able to serve the Lord in return when they are well-fed via food production, educated via literacy for education is the key, among others.

The participants who are composed of Elder Quorum leaders, Relief Society presidents, and Branch Presidents coming from 8 units of La Carlota District apprised themselves of the specific tools and resources on how they would become like the Lord Jesus Christ.

They are as follows: tithing and fast offering, mentoring others, Church Service Missionary, providing employment to others, Church assignments, and preaching the Gospel.

Take-a-Way Commitment

President Mario A. Malacaman inspired the participants for his take-a-way message for them before they go home to their respective units and branches.

This training paves the way on how we serve the Lord by serving our members who are poor and needy. The things learned should be taken one at a time. It should be step by step until big things would happen.

He realized that serving the Lord won't make anybody get rich, but doing the best and not expecting too much make things happen especially applying the principles, the tools and resources learned from this training.

Also the three branch presidents took their time of imparting their sincere concern over the Church program on self-reliance and welfare projects.

President Carlo U. Rebelde of Mangapsang Branch displayed a great satisfaction of the Church program. He was inspired for he knew what to do to help his members, helping themselves.

President Gene Calma of San Enrique Branch became too emotional as he relayed the great significance of program which his members could benefit much if they do their part as expected.

President Joseph Semillano of Moises Padilla had realized that to be a branch president is no joke. Trials and challenges are unavoidable. That is why, he needs to be strong to cater to the needs of his members.

Brother Boiser concluded that everyone has the special responsibility to bless someone. Thus sharing responsibility makes things easy in the Lord's way.

This annual wedding ceremony paves the legal way to wed those couples who cannot afford to spend expenses for their wedding. And this is also legal way for their children to be considered not to be born out wedlock.

City Mayor Jacky Jalandoni has solemnized this momentous nuptial rites for 78 couples who have been unwed due to circumstances beyond their control.

SP members Lidoy Miravalles and Karen Aguirre do the honor in lighting the ceremonial candles.

Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Director Engr. Fred Sollesta shares the essence and importance of marriage and the function of PSA to Filipinos.

The City government has provided every couple for their wedding gifts.

The wedding ceremonies were held at the La Carlota City gym.

Couples Take Road to Forever

Seventy-eight unwed couples tie the knot on a mass wedding sponsored by the La Carlota City government on February 13 at the City Gymnasium.

The event was made possible through the partnership of the City Government thru the Office of the Civil Registrar and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

“Marriage is for love. Love your partner, husband and wife. Love is a success of the wedding,” said Mayor Jacky Jalandoni who served as the solemnizing officer.

Engr. Fred S. Sollesta, Regional Director of PSA-Region VI, emphasized the importance of marriage in a family. He added that the civil wedding is an opportunity for couples to register their marriage and eventually legitimize their children.

SP member Amalia Aguirre, Chairman of the Committee on Women, Social Welfare and Family Relations, reminded the couples to remain faithful to their respective partners.

Pastor Ariel Pelota of Word International Ministry leads the prayer.

DIY: How to Print Tarpapel Using MS Excel Program

Teachers are sometimes facing a problem in finding instructional materials as their teaching aids or for their posters needed to support the coverage of their teaching for a particular unit within the school year. Learning is facilitated when there is a graphic presentation of the subject or skill to be learned.

Solution has been reached and tarpapel is the answer. This is made of a certain graphic design printed on several pieces of paper and is being patched one by one to form like a poster or streamer. When you look at it in a distance, it resembles to a tarpaulin. It is a do-it-yourself graphic tool for lesson presentation, for attractive bulletin board display, among others.

I have once made it by using of MS Word - Making Tarpapel Using MS Word. This time MS Excel is to used. With the permission of Mam Eda Fabale-Ponsaran, creator and admin of TAGA DEPED AKO REGION VI (WESTERN VISAYAS) in the Facebook, I have presented here those procedures on how to print Tarpapel by using the MS Excel program which is posted in FB on June 15, 2015.

The following instructions are presented below as supported by pictures on how to do it:

1. Open MS Excel.
2. Click the Insert button, then
3. Click Picture and select from file the picture you need.

4. Click the Picture Tools button to edit the picture to the size you want.

5. Then click Page Layout button.
6. Click Margins button.

7. Then adjust all margins to zero.

8. Ready to print.

Check the icon in red circle to determine the bond paper you are going to use for printing.

Elder Carlos G. Revillo, Jr. of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day presided over the semi-annual conference of La Carlota Philippines District held at La Carlota Meetinghouse, Saturday, February 9, 2019.

In the Adult session of the said conference, he counseled the members about the importance of a family. These members are composed of different auxiliary leaders of the Moises Padilla, La Castellana, Manggapsang, Masville, La Carlota 1st, La Carlota 2nd, Ayungon, and San Enrique.

To emphasize his message, he showed a video message of President Russell M. Nelson on home which is considered spiritually as sanctuary of faith on October 2018 General Church conference.
He cited a portion of the message President Nelson on "Becoming Exemplary Latter-day Saints", especially about home.

"The new home-centered, Church-supported integrated curriculum has the potential to unleash the power of families, as each family follows through conscientiously and carefully to transform their home into a sanctuary of faith..."

He elaborated the new church curriculum which is centered on home. By using it, the home would become a "sanctuary of faith."

Other Speakers

Sister Marites F. Revillo

Earlier Sister Marites F. Revillo, wife of Elder Revillo shared her observation of other country as far as Gospel study, reading of the Church scriptures and Church activity, which is too far or far-fetched compared to us as a Filipino member of the Church. Their system is beyond reproach, very commendable. They don't need to be prodded or reminded every time there is a Church activity.

She also showed concern on how to help members who are not spiritually uplifted. She said that if they want to help, they should be in the higher ground. Thus, it is easy to lift those who are weak in faith up in that kind of situation.

Bacolod Mission President Sumagpao and his wife, Sister Sumagpao took turn of sharing their message to spiritually strengthen the members in attendance. So as with President Malacaman and Sister Fe Vergara have shared a message.

On Leadership Training

Elder Revillo checked the leaders on vital concern of their respective units or branches. He mentioned the earlier the meeting he had with President Mario A. Malacaman in which the issues tackled for making the La Carlota District strong are as follows: Melchizedek Priesthood, Welfare and Self-reliance.

Those concerns should be addressed properly or else they would be "cursed with a curse" especially in keeping the Law of Tithing.

Thus, he enumerated the three priorities to resolve those things. The members must be obedient (Law of Tithing, Sacrament Attendance, Family History). Next is to keep their covenant and establish a home, a Gospel-centered home.

Conference Music

The 31-member Choir of La Carlota District under Music Director Mae I. Escalante as chorister and Sister Missionary Hostetter on the piano provided the music for the Adult session of the conference. They rendered a special number, a medley of Lead Me Into Life Eternal (Hymn No. 45) and Behold! A Royal Army (Hymn No. 251), and a closing hymn, “In Our Lovely Deseret” (Hymn No. 307).

Sunday Session

The Sunday Session of the conference is to be held at the respective branches to their local area. It would be presided over by their respective branch president unless a visiting local authority is in attendance,.

Raffy, the Friendly Giraffe

I have met his family 43 years ago. I was 24 years old then at that time. And recently I have found him in the rolls of free photos from unsplash. I virtually adapted him and name him, Raffy. He is my new avatar in Tuetego.

How I wish I could see and feed a giraffe again. The first time I saw it was sometime in 1975 when I visited the Manila Zoo during my vacant time for I was undergoing a training in the Central Bank of the Philippines as a newly hired bank employee in our local bank.

The Central Bank of the Philippines 18-story building is just across the Manila Zoo in the Harrison Street, Metro Manila. That is why it is easy for me to visit it during my free time. The entrance fee to the Manila Zoo is minimal.

It was a very rare occasion that I personally see the long-neck and long-legged animal with spotted body. I saw other visitors feeding the said animal. I took a small branch with many leaves and pointed it to the mouth of giraffe. It started munching it. I had also a picture with it but I lost it. I couldn't find it. Imagine how it is.

I wonder why this ruminant animal has long neck and legs. I have observed that the place where these animals usually live or their habitat has many tallest trees. Thus, when they feed themselves they reach for those leaves of the trees. I have learned that they live in Africa. They are the tallest animals with even-toed ungulate mammals.

I have no idea at present if Manila Zoo is still existed and maintained.

While reading I have come across with these three essential skills for a good school manager to have in discharging his duties and responsibilities effectively.

Seal Excellence Award for our school

Katz, as cited by Dr. Romeo J. Yarcia of Dupax del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya in "Human Skills of a School Manager" (The Herald, March-April 1998), presented three essentials skills that a good School Manager must possess. They are technical skills, human skills, and conceptual skills.

Dr. Yarcia noted that technical skills involve competency in dealing with things, human skills have to do with one's skill in dealing with people and conceptual skills concern itself with looking at the whole organization. He said that one basic requirement for a manager is to have a working relationship with his subordinates in order to attain the systems, goals and objectives. It is where human relationship is needed by the school and administrator.

Human relations, according to Yarcia, is not simply behaving courteously so that people will like you, but it is also knowing how to handle difficult problems when they arise. It is learning to work well under demanding unfair superiors. It is dealing effectively with conflict It is understanding yourself and how to communicate with others. It is building and maintaining long-term relationships with family, friends, co-workers and subordinates as well as supervisors. It is knowing how to restore a working relationship that has deteriorated. It is learning to live with your frustrations without hurting others or jeopardizing your own career. It is communicating the right kind of attitude during meetings, conferences, seminars and the like. It is building and maintaining relationships in many directions with many kinds of people in both good and bad working environments.

Following are reasons, according to Chapman (1987) as cited by Yarcia, in having a positive attitude which is essential to career success:

1. When you are positive, you are usually more energetic, highly motivated, productive and alert.
2. First impression is important to the job because they often have a lasting effect.
3. A positive person contributes to the productivity of others.
4. Co-workers and subordinates like you when you are positive.
5. The kind of attitude you submit top management will have a great deal to do with your future success.

In keeping positive attitude when things get tough, Chapman suggested the following:

1. Build a more positive attitude in one environment and you will be more successful on another.
2. Talk about positive things. Be complimentary. Negative commitments are seldom welcomed by fellow workers on the job.
3. Look for the good things in the people you work with, especially your superior. Nobody is perfect, but almost everybody has a few worthwhile qualities.
4. Look for the good things in your organization. If you concentrate on the good things, the negative factors may seem less important.
5. Don't permit a fellow worker or even a superior who has a negative attitude to trap you into his way of thinking.

Yarcia concluded that a school administrator is reasonable in managing his subordinates in such a manager that they achieve the aims of the school system. He can do this by developing in him and his teachers good public relations, and especially a positive attitude.

Youth's Initiative: Sweepwalk, Keeping the City Clean

“It is for the cleanliness of our city.” A caption reads from one of the pictures posted in Mangkasanon Kami FB page about this "Sweepwalk".

"Sweepwalkers in action"

This has prompted some concerned youths of La Carlota City, who recently took their precious time sometime in the first week of January 2019 to do some cleaning in some parts of the city, particularly the plaza, some parts of the city streets like San Agustin, Yunque, and the Agora or the public market.

One hundred ten young men and young women volunteered this Sweepwalk community project. Kudos to them. They have displayed their sincere concern about the environment especially the cleanliness of the surrounding. This is for the cleanliness of their city as pointed out.

This project is product of the honest concern of the 12 youths who are so conscious of the cleanliness within the city by proper way of disposing the garbage.

With this kind of laudable initiative of the youth, the following has supported this: Café Norma, Mr. and Mrs. Rico Albay, DHSBNHS-ABM Club, Mr. Marvin Elray Paclibar, Thea Lotayco, Mrs. Giselle Joy Valencia, Mr. Marc Andrew Manaay, Mr. Mark Threx Rojo, Mary Kris Teodorico and Engr. Bobb Michael Bokingo.

These youths have already started and the other youths will for sure follow them for this kind good example they have shown.

Family outing Keeps Family Together

The family outing is one of the activities we have had for 2019. We are alway hoping and have a strong faith that family can be together forever as what our Church has taught us. We keep on nurturing our relationship among us in our family. We are doing our best to keep our family as strong as ever and be united as opportunity says so.

Camporazo Family 2019

It is our family tradition to go out for an outing every first day of the year. Yes, January 1 is our family day. We go out for a family outing to our favorite beach hangout. We spend our New Year to Soleo Beach, San Enrique, Negros Occidental.

We wear the Tshirt colored orange through the courtesy of our 3rd elder daughter, An An. Last year, we wore yellow Tshirt. And my 6 children were complete. But this year 2019, our eldest son, Dondon is not able to join with us. He is residing at Manalo Fortich, Bukidnon. His other 5 siblings are present: Dona, Gingging, An An, Gigi, and Toto Jun.

Our son-in-laws, Almon, husband of Dona, Tipoy, husband of An An, and our daughter-in-law, Maria Carissa have joined with us also together with our grandchildren like Bryan, eldest son of Dondon; and Bulaklak, Phanie, and Inday Sophie, the children of An An and Tipoy.

Camporazo Happy Family

As usual we brought along with us, the foods that we prepared for our Noche Buena, Midnight snack upon the onset of the New Year; that is after the fireworks lighted by the people in our city to welcome the New Year.

Rebing, my wife did the grilling of some foods like the hot dogs, the pork chops, and some fishes. Inday Carissa and Almo assisted her, while Toto Jun did cut the grilled pork into pieces for easy eating.

Inday Sophie together with her grandma, Rebing enjoyed the water in the mini pool in the Soleo Beach. While Adgel, Almon, Toto Jun, and me sang some songs of the videoke from the laptop of our youngest son, amplified by a mini speaker recently bought by Toto Jun.

Bulaklak, Phanie, Adgel, and Toto Bryan enjoyed the warm sea water of the beach.

After a day's excursion from the beach which was filled with different people coming from different places, we had our family posterity picture taking at the Mermaid sculpture at the entrance of the beach.

What we did is a strong advocacy of our belief that "families can be together forever". Thus, we keep our family bonding as stronger as ever as long as we could do it.
