Why the City of La Carlota becomes sweet in this year's Christmas seasons?

Christmas time is already in the small city of La Carlota. It has kicked off by the opening of lights for this year's Christmas Festival of lights.

A great number of people from all walks of life thronged at the public plaza to witness the momentous opening of this yuletide festivity.

Lights are pervading the entire plaza. They are illuminating all standing trees there assigned to respective government agencies, schools, and civic organizations. It pays to stay there with all the family members to be entertained by the songs and dances of various Christmas songs medley every night.

This year's Christmas motif for the La Carlota Festival of Lights is bringing everyone to the Lollyland where there are candies, candy canes, lollipops, cupcakes, and sweets. These sweet stuffs are in their gigantic sizes as they add attractiveness to the facade of the city hall, the edifice of the City Mayor and the City Council.

Thus, they make the City of La Carlota sweet in 2018 Christmas seasons.

'Halad kay Kang-Laon' : 1st Mt. Kanlaon National Park Festival held by La Carlota

All roads led to Sitio Guintubdan, Brgy, Ara-al, La Carlota City on August 11 for the first Mt. Kanlaon National Park Festival as "Halad kay Kang-Laon" (Offerings to Kang-Laon). Its theme was "Pag-amlig sa Dungang Manggad para sa Kaayuhan sang Katawhan" (To Protect the Natural Resources for the Good of the People).

The City Tourism of La Carlota had initiated to celebrate this festival to give honor and respect to Haring Laon or Kang Laon as the great protector and provider of the natives who lived long time ago in the said volcano. And also this is to boost tourism industry in the said place which the neighboring towns and cities could benefit too.

According to local history or local legend, Kanlaon or Canlaon is an ancient name of a Visayan god. It is idolized by the natives as their highest Ruler. The natives did highly esteemed by worshiping him as "One who is the Ruler of Time".

The volcano is where the said Ruler stayed wherein native priests and priestesses visited and did some rituals and some offerings of their good harvest as tokens of their gratefulness and respect. Some other versions of this legend had been handed by the natives to one generation to the other.

Mount Kanlaon (Canlaon) is the highest active volcano in Negros, It divides Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental. There is a separate city in Negros Oriental which bears its name, Canlaon.

The MKNP festival was held at Sitio Guintubdan. It is a 30-minute ride by bus or public utility vehicle from the city proper of La Carlota. Starting from the capital city, Bacolod, it would be 75 kilometers more or less.

Elder Plarao, One-Handed Missionary Completes Mission with Honor

I know a true latter-day saints know the importance of doing a missionary work. They know it in doing so for they've done their part in fulfilling one of the 3-fold mission of the Church, and that's to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

But what about if you're unable to do it due to a handicap or physical disability, can you do the missionary work? In one of our leadership meeting with the Church leaders, if a member is disabled and wanted to spread the Gospel in doing the missionary job like the full-time missionary is doing in the field, by his honest and willing desire he is already doing it and he doesn't need to go out anymore to fulfill it.

On the other hand, if you're partially handicap, like the one I know from La Castellana Branch. He is Bro. Angelo Plarao who has no right hand which was amputated due to firecracker accident when he was 14 years old. His Branch President, the late Rogie Belarmino encouraged him to go out for a mission in spite of that handicap. Bro Angelo responded approvingly. He never hesitated or had a second thought "because all circumstances and problems have their own worth of purpose" in which he strongly believes it.

It was in 2009 that Bro. Angelo received his mission call to do a 2-year mission in Butuan Philippines Mission under President Revillo. What a coincidence, he belongs to where my youngest son, Elder Camporazo is also serving his mission there. Elder Plarao was assigned to San Francisco Zone as his first mission area and his last area was Ampayon Ward under Butuan Stake in 2011.

His other assigned areas were Rosario Branch, Apokon Branch in Tagum City, and Manghoy Branch in Bislig City.

Being a one-handed missionary who generally be bullied by anyone who could see him, Elder Plarao has determination not to be affected by it. As a result, he's able to convert and baptize a drunkard and trouble-maker person in his mission. He has done it due to his sincere desire to bring back those unbelievers back to the fold of the Heavenly Father.

In spite of his physical disability, he has also some hindrances that may interfere with his normal discharge of missionary work. He has worried on how he could survive for 2 years for he doesn't know how to wash and iron his clothes. What he also tends him to worry more is his communication skills. He doesn't understand English so as to speak it. He has only reached the first year high school and stop schooling. But all those hindrances had vanished like bubbles for God has prepared the way for him. And it did as what the 1 Nephi 3:7 of the Book of Mormon said, "God will prepare the way."

He has able to complete his 2-year mission by trusting in the Lord, having faith with Him always. He knows that even how difficult the situation, God helps him. He knows that God is real. Everyone is here to be tested. He goes home with a heart full of thanksgiving to his Mission President, President Charlie Revillo and President Donato, and all Branch Presidents whom he worked with while in the mission field. And most of all, he gratefully acknowledged Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father, his great Provider.

Life After Mission

After his two years of serving to the Lord's vineyard, he was released as a full-time missionary in 2011 by his District President. In that time, Bro. Angelo Plarao's mission doesn't stop. He has to face another life's mission like finishing his education, finding a job and taking an eternal life partner by getting married in the Temple for time and eternity.

He was called as the Branch President of Moises Padilla under La Carlota Philippines District and he had sent two families, the Semillano and Dueñas to the Cebu Temple for Sealing ordinances. It is what he got for living the latter-day saint way with a strong faith in Jesus Christ and keeping His commandments. He managed the Moises Padilla through his good example. Later he was released and was replaced by Bro. Joseph Semillano as the new Branch President of Moises Padilla Branch.

He took up the acceleration and equivalency test conducted by Alternative Learning System (ALS) in La Carlota as per advised by President Semillano. He passed it and he was accelerated to take college education for he is "entitled to all the rights of a secondary education graduate." He didn't go through the rigors and difficulties of hurdling the 2nd, 3rd and the 4th secondary level of education.

He continued his college studies by availing of the loan from Perpetual Education Fund, an education program for the returned missionaries and deserving members of the Church. And on March 28, 2017 he completed his Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED), General Education at the Central Philippine University (CPU), Moises Padilla Campus.

Next Mission - Temple Marriage

On how to get married to the temple is the next mission which Angelo would be striving to achieve. However, he has learned from President Harold B. Lee's counsel to the returned missionaries that they should take time in looking for their eternal partner in life.

President Lee's advice:

"Make sure that you have FOUND THE GIRL OF YOUR CHOICE. You have gone together long enough THAT YOU KNOW EACH OTHER, and that they know each other's FAULTS and they still LOVE each other."

Students' Reactions to Olive Tree Allegory

I am handling the Institute of Religion class of the La Carlota First Branch every Saturday and we're in the 4th week of our classes. This is one of the educational programs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We're deliberating on the spiritual significance of the Olive Tree as mentioned in the 12th verse of the 15th Chapter of 1st Nephi of The Book of Mormon and the 13th verse which specified those kind of people to bring back those who have been lost.

Before, they expressed their thoughts on the central message which the Olive Tree has signified. They grouped themselves into two and did an actual grafting of the croton plants of various. They're given enough time to complete their grafting activity.

After the students were briefed what is grafting and how it is to be done, they were given one set of croton plants composed of two stocks of different kinds of leaves. They were also provided with knife and masking tape for their hands-on grafting section of application.

Application

As what 1 Nephi 15:16 said since the House of Israel had been scattered in the different parts of the earth, it is necessary that it should be gathered again and be "they shall be a grafted in, being a natural branch of the olive tree, into the true olive tree." and it could be done by the other group of people as what the scripture said, the Gentiles. And the Olive Tree represents the House of Israel. In order that it should be nurtured and be growing, there should be something to be "grafted" to replace those "branches" which become unproductive.

The group one through their representative pointed out that through missionary work the gathering of lost tribe of Israel would be made possible. She said that since they were scattered they could be searched and be found and they should be taught of the Gospel of Jesus Christ again and be baptized for the remission of their sins.

The other group through their representative expressed that by being obedient to the commandments of the Lord those members of the Church could be made an instrumentality for the gathering of those lost members of the House of Israel. The Gentiles as mentioned in the scripture represent those people who could gather the lost people of Israel. They took the spiritual responsibility to do what the Lord has commanded them what to do.

As what the scripture said, "I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded." (1 Nephi 3:7) They're in consensus in doing this for they know what they are doing they could reap the blessings in doing so.

Scouts and scouters coming from the City of San Carlos, Sagay, Talisay, Bago, Binalbagan, Himamaylan, Kabankalan, and La Carlota paid the last tribute to Sir Romeo B. Toda's last camp fire conducted by the Negros Occidental Council, Boy Scout of the Philippines in a 2-hour heartbreaking simple rites.

Death is An Appointed Time

Pastor/Scouter Romeo Camporaso stressed in his message of comfort to everyone especially to the bereaved family of Sir Toda that "it is appointed me... to die" according to Hebrew 9:27. No one exempted of dying and no one may not know when his appointed time to die should come.

Giving Tribute

NOC-BSP Treasurer, Congressman Leo Rafael M. Cueva of Sagay City gave his tribute, followed by ALT Fundador as a friend. From the family, Enrique A. Toda, Jr. summarized his tribute to his grandfather in an acronym of ROMEO which stands for Right, Observant, Memory, Effort/energy, and Okay.

A heartbreaking tribute was shared by CSE Maguad. He relayed the dedication and determination of Sir Toda to the scouting movement. He hailed how a true-blooded scouter Sir Toda is in spite of her old age. He could still tackle the survival task especially in climbing, in staying late at night. Until he gave up due to his health reason as per advised by his doctor.

Scouter Ramy Gayadao, ALT acknowledged the presence of everyone in behalf of the La Carlota Scouting Committee. Scouter Ticao shared a farewell message with all thanksgiving. And Scouter Mark Tompong, ALT offered the benediction.

Scouter Ma. Rosario F. Gangoso, ALT was the emcee. Scouter Lynne Brillo led the singing of scouting related songs.

All scouters took the last view of the demise after the camp fire rites.

Today is Father's Day. What's it in store for me, especially from my children?

The Fathers in our family: ltr-Papa Tipoy, Toto Jun, Papa Almon, Papa Dondon, and Tatay Gilbor

I have six children. Four of them are married. They've their job to support their family. Only my 2nd daughter and the youngest daughter are single. We've raised them through thick and thin. At least we've not failed them. We've sent them to school. We've raised them according to the "nurture and admonition of the Lord".

In this special day for all fathers, our children have shown their thoughtfulness by sharing me inspiring messages and words of gratefulness. My wife, Rebing and I are so happy about it. We've nothing to give them in return but to be proud and be happy and to continue or to edify our family relationship for we believe that family could be together forever.

Our children's have their own unique way in expressing themselves on how happy. grateful they are as their father. The following pictures so expressed them.

Revisiting Talisay 'Ruins' after 6 years

A second look to the noted "Taj Mahal of Negros Occidental" - the Ruins in Talisay. The oldest ruins in Negros Occidental. It has been recognized as the highest art form of a magnificent architectural design based on "structural strength and stability, lasting function and flexible use, and beauty in its distinctive details"

The new set of "ruiners" excluding the tricycle driver, Almon, my son-in-law and me visited for the first time the "fascinating ruins of the world. These eager and curious "ruiners" were composed of my wife, Rebecca, our smart granddaughter, Sophie; Carissa, my daughter-in-law and her siblings: Zarah, Mae An, Eron, and her nephew, Elyan.

It was six years ago that I paid a visit to this "Ruins. It was a half-day morning tour to the ruins of mansion of Italianate architecture of the sugar baron, Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson (1865-1948) in Talisay City on December 11, 2011.

The group was composed of the newly wed couple, Ricalyn Camporazo (blogger's granddaughter) and Glenn Salas,; Nidabel with her daughter Ara, Marzon Oceña, Bebing (blogger's nephew), Gingging (blogger's 2nd eldest daughter), and Grace Nicor, a friend. As first timer visitors, they curiously inspected the historical remnants of the building which was considered as the Taj Mahal of the Philippines in Negros Occidental. They were all amazed of the engineering features of the ruins.

Ruins 'Repair' (New Beauty Spots)

I am referring this "repair" for the innovations and improvements made in the Ruins vicinity. A lagoon (golf course) was created with improvised lake, with big fishes, and with big statue of pair of swans. At the background of the lagoon, a constructed ruin pillars enhanced the place. Added also is a man-made elevated land to form a small mount with a single culvert on the side and a single rail cart on the foot of the said mount.

The main entrance is relocated on the eastern part of the place and it could be accessed from Bacolod Airport Access Road (new highway) and from the original accessed road from Talisay.

The entrance fees: 100 for the adults, 50, senior citizens, and 20 for the kids, 8 years and below.

Amenities

The place is very conducive for the party goers to stay at night. There is a live piano player whom I met for the first time. He is Romeo Sanchez, a Tagalog speaking person. It is by a hunch that I requested for him to play "Fascination" and he did it well. I never thought or I had forgotten that the Ruins is one of the "fascinating" ruins in the world as claimed by writers, journalists.

Mr. Sanchez, an elderly, knew Mr. Bagguer Villaluz, a noted local musician and at the same my friend, my co-columnist in Negros Daily Bulletin, a vigilant newspaper in the Western Visayas.

Visitors and tourists could avail of themselves of souvenirs about the ruins which could be bought from the souvenir shop inside the ruin.

Lecture on the historical background of the building is always ready for the first timers. There is a regular resource person who takes his time giving lecture to the visitors.

There are still on going improvement or innovations being prepared to enrich the tourism feature of the said "Taj Mahal of Negros Occidental".

Reminiscence of 2011 First Family Outing

My family is the best associate, companion I ever have. I thank God for this wonderful family I have had. This is one of the things I treasure most. For good times and bad times, the members of my family are there to be with me to inspire and strengthen me. I'm thankful that family can be forever and we can be together for time and eternity.

Year 2011 is another opportunity to nurture and rear up my family in the Lord's way. We welcome year 2011 and thank the Lord for the blessings He has given us in any form and situation. Thus we strengthen our family in anyway and by going out in the beach for the first time in the New Year is a realization of this gratefulness to our Father in heaven.

With this particularly kind of family bonding in going out to the beach, we had already commenced and would do it again and again in the following year and even in the years to come.

We reiterate that family is so important for us. It makes our life worth living because of our family especially in taking care of our children's future. We could have a better position in doing so if we are united, if we are one as inspired by the Lord's work and purpose for making our family together forever.

This is already the 3rd time that we spend this new year at the said beach. We have started this family outing in 2013, This is our family tradition that in January 1 we spend our quality time to the beach to welcome the New Year in another family activity like outing at Soleo beach, San Enrique, Neg. Occ., PH. This is to continue our thanksgiving that aside from New Year's eve we have our family get-together to have some fun with children, grandchildren and in-laws, family dinner, and family prayer.

"Let's unite!" - Jalandoni

"Let's unite" - simple and humble message of Mayor Jacky Jalandoni II during the opening of the traditional festival of lights and music of the small city of La Carlota. Christmas is a season for every Mangkasanon to unite for the continuous development and progress of the city in terms of economic, political, religious, and social as pointed out by Mayor Jalandoni.

La Carlota City is considered now a burgeoning among the component cities in the Negros Occidental. The small city is proud to claim that there are mall and mart are already in place to cater to the needs of the people in terms of foods, household needs, grocery, office and school supplies, shoes and apparel, among others. They are as follows Lopue's Department Store, Amar Emporium, Lucky 99, Lai Hoc, Prince Hypermart, and KJ Fairmart. Fastfoods are Jollibee, Merzci, and Foodman.

For the banking needs of the people and the businessmen, three banking entities are there to serve them like the Philippine National Bank (PNB), Bangko de Oro (BDO), and the 1st Valley Bank.

To name a few, the city received the Green Banner Award during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held last December 1, 2016 at the Pavillon Hotel in Bacolod City, the highest honor given by the Department of Health (DOH) and the National Nutrition Council (NNC) to LGUs with excellent health programs.

Another one is the Child-Friendly Presidential Award Finalist for 2015 which was awarded last September 26, 2016 in Malacañan Palace as a National Finalist in the Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit (CFLGA) - Component City Category.

To humbly acknowledge the past administration of Mayor Juliet Marie D. Ferrer, now the 4th Dist. Congresswoman, the city had garnered the bronze, the silver, and the gold awards as a legacy of excellence to Mayor Luis J. Jalandoni III as a stepping stone in the city's advocacy in the protection and conservation of the environment.

The 664 city officials and employees are negative for drug as the result of drug-testing among themselves. While the 10 out of 14 barangay of the city are considered as drug-free in the latest report of the La Carlota PNP.

Mural Paintings Single Out La Carlota City in Tourism

The small city of La Carlota in Negros Island Region has a lot of beautiful places and natural spots to attract tourist all over the country and even the world. Recently the city observed the 3rd week of September as the tourism week with series of activities which may include the following a quiz for the elementary and secondary public and private schools, mural painting contest, immortal inspired (pictures), and "costumize" corner chair making,

New to this activity is mural painting contest. Sixteen talented artists of the city participated in the 2-day painting tilt. The participating contestants used the acrylic paint as their medium materials for painting. They used the perimeter fence of the Pax Academy, a private school serves as their canvas for the painting.

Since this contest is first ever that ever introduced as one of the contests in the observance of City Tourism Week, the tourism office hopes that by next year competition would be participated in by the talented boys and girls of the 23 elementary schools and 5 high schools.

Teachers, It's a Job Well Done!

My last class observation of ,my teachers in Balabag Elementary School, Division of La Carlota City for I have two more days to go before I take my official 15-day leave before I retire on October 14. I take this great opportunity to observe my 5 teachers.

The first teacher I observe is Mr. Ronaldo C. Valdevieso. He is teaching the subtraction of decimal numbers with zero as the placeholder. He gives 5 examples for the seatwork of his grade 5 class after his lesson presentation.

Kids are preoccupied doing their work. Volunteers are raising their hands to solve the problem on the board. I enjoy seeing them, giving their different answers. Sir Ronald is able to meet his goal.

Giving some insights to the kids after I observe them

I proceed to the kinder class of Mrs. Rima Jane P. Cadena. With a complete set of visual aids posted on the board, she gets the attention of her pupils. She introduces the different dress to wear during sunny days or during the summer season.

In their individual work, the kids are giving different pictures of dress for them to color. The kids love their work and they color it according to their preference.

Next is Mahal H. Demabidlo, the grade 1 teacher. Upon entering her class, the pupils are looking at me and they're pointing their fingers. I realize later that Miss Mahal is asking them to give an example of "matanda" (old). And the kids are right to point me as their example for I am already 65 years old. After that, the kids also give "lola"(grandma) and "lolo" (grandpa) as another example.

The kids could identify the difference between the old and the young. And they could give right examples.

5 teachers in actions

Mrs. Angelica A. Tuala is the fourth teachers I observe that day. She's teaching Science 3 in Hiligaynon. The lesson is about "ilong" (nose). She asks her class why the is important and what are the things that they must do to protect from harm. Her pupils give several answers, practical ones. The class is well-managed.

The last teachers I observed is Mr. Mike T. Pabalate. Changing mixed numbers to an improper fraction and improper fraction to mixed numbers. He gives several examples on the board. His grade 4 class has more than 40 pupils. But Mr. Mike is able to manage them and able to teach them. The class is attentive. Mr. Mike is able to meet his objectives.

I would be missing these great teachers of my school, Balabag Elementary School. My dear teachers keep up the good works. I know you could do it well. I know your pupils could much from you. You deserve to be recognized and honored on October 5, Teachers' Day.

Congratz, teachers! Good luck, kids! I love you all!

I know many of us here have a different manner of praying, of communicating to the Lord for whatever purpose we have in need, in mind. I am citing here Jesus Christ, for He is the great exemplar of righteousness. Since the time that I was converted to the LDS Church, I have kept and followed these 5 simple steps in prayer.

Earthquake Drill Makes School Goers Alert, Confident

Not only the students and pupils of the school are prepared and ready for a natural disaster like earthquake, but the loss of lives may be prevented if they know what to do during the earthquake as pointed out by the Balabag Elementary School principal after the conduct of an earthquake drill to join the entire country of Mass Earthquake Drill which is done by the school and other government agencies simultaneously this morning.

The Balabag Elementary School in the Division of La Carlota City, Negros Island Region through its School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (SDRRM) headed by the School Head, Mr. Gilbor I. Camporazo with the cooperation of Brgy. Balabag Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (BDRRM) headed by Punong Brgy. Joel Rumbines conducted the earthquake drill on June 22, 2016 in line with the 2nd Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill 2016.

By 9:00 O’clock in the morning, a 1-minute ring of the bell was sounded to signal the occurrence of the quake that rocks the school. All pupils in their respective rooms were alert to hide by themselves under their desks or chairs to protect themselves from the falling debris coming from the ceiling.

When the bell stopped, they slowly came out from their classrooms while observing the “duck, walk and hold” procedure of getting out and going to the designated safe evacuation area.

Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Head in Action

Punong Brgy. Joel Rumbines while supervising the drill accompanied the grade 2 pupils in heading to their designated evacuation place where they are safe.

Parents of the Kinder pupils were also supervising their respective children, leading them also to the safe evacuation center as designated in the School Emergency Evacuation Plan.

Before the pupils were dismissed and went to their respective classes , Punong Brgy. Joel Rumbines gave a brief lecture on what to do when a natural disaster like the earthquake may happen. He stressed the importance of natural way of protecting themselves like the “duck, walk, and hold” method of leaving their classrooms.

He appreciated the concern of everybody not only the teaching staff, the school principal, but also the assistance of the parents who were present and who were taking care of their children.

School DRRM Head's Impression

While for his part, the School Principal, Mr. Gilbor I. Camporazo appreciated the alertness and the presence of mind of the pupils in the conduct of the earthquake drill. He was impressed by the attitude of every pupil in responding to the natural disaster occurrence like the earthquake. He also commended the involvement of the teachers in supervising their respective pupils on what to do during the earthquake, especially in making the head count of their pupils.

Any disaster may come if everybody is doing their part especially in making the children safe and protected, loss of lives may be prevented, the principal concluded.

Father's Day is a tradition among the Americans and likewise with the Filipinos. It is observed every 3rd Sunday of June. Children, grandchildren, and even wives keep this momentous day to honor fathers for their exemplary contribution to their family and to the community where they live.

According to history, it was on July 5, 1908, when the first Father's Day was observed in Fairmont, West Virginia as a result of Anna Jarvis' promotion of Mother's Day in Grafton, West Virginia. It was only a local celebration in that particular place in West Virginia.

In 1996, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation to honor fathers. Thus, the 3rd Sunday of June was designated as Father's Day. And in 1972, President Richard Nixon signed a bill into law, making this celebration a permanent national holiday in the United States of America.

Others countries have been influenced by such celebration and they have their own system of celebrating it. Our country Philippines has adapted the said Sunday for celebrating Father's Day.

On Father's Day

Early in the morning, I was awakened by a warm kiss from my wife who whispered to my right ear, "Happy Father's Day". As I opened my eyes wide, I saw my wife with a big smile on her face.

"Thank you. I love you," tacitly I quipped.

Without saying my morning prayer, I grabbed my mobile phone and checked it to find out the first Father's Day greetings which came from my wife. Then another video greeting from my eldest daughter, Dona Greece followed.

Before I went down from my bed, our grandson, Toto Bryan approached, hugged me and greeted me, Father's Day. As I took a seat near my laptop track to take my hot cup of oat, my youngest daughter, Geeree greeted me while hugging me tight. She was followed by our smart, 3-year old granddaughter Inday Sophie. With a big smile on her chubby face, she kissed me on my right cheek while mumbling, "Father's Day".

My daughter-in-law, Inday Carissa and my eldest daughter, Dona Greece and her hubby, Almon have approached me and greeted me too.

We went to Church together. Our youth members have prepared a special song number for the fathers after the Sacrament meeting. Every youth took the turn to give the fathers a token like a hand-made bracelet with "Father's Day" inscription and a tie in a gift wrapper.

After a posterity picture, we went home. After changing our clothes, we have a date at the Foodman to fill our tummy with a spaghetti, a bihon (noodles), and soda drinks. We captured the precious moments we have had on this momentous day of all the fathers.

Is it enough for such occasion for me to be happy?

Ready for Opening of Classes

Brigada Eskwela 2016 has put our humble school ready for the opening of classes on June 13. Our thanks and appreciation go to our active and supportive stakeholders spearheaded by our Punong Brgy. Joel Rumbines. The involvement of parents, particularly the 4Ps beneficiaries and recipients, and the youths as well. The teachers are also duly acknowledged.

My Pamilya Brigada is also being recognized. I am very thankful to them. To my ever supportive wife, Rebing and to the rest of my children and grandchildren. And special mention to my son-in-law, Almon who is ever ready when community, church and school activities are concerned.

My wife, Rebecca leads our family in the last day of Brigada Eskwela, the annual school maintenance of the Department of Education (DepEd) which is conducted in our Balabag Elementary School in La Carlota City, starting May 30 to June 4, 2016.

My Family in Action

My family arrived at the school through the motorized tricycle of my son-in-law, Almon Tolones, the hubby of our eldest daughter, Dona Greece. Those who joined were Dona Greece, Adgel and Almon; Geeree, our youngest daughter; Toto Jun (Gilbor, Jr), our youngest son, and his wife, Ma. Carissa; and the four grandchildren: Toto Bryan, the fourth son of our eldest son, Dondon; Shanley (Bulaklak), Phanie, and Inday Sophie.

Rebing, my wife led these Pamilya Camporazo Brigada Warriors who were too excited and very willing to do their share in maintaining the cleanliness, the orderliness of the classrooms and my principal's office as well. By the way, my other three children who were not able to join for they worked abroad and lived in a far away island like Mindanao were Dondon who resided at Mindanao, An-an who worked abroad, and Gingging who left at home for she had a small business to tender with.

Child in Action

Our smart, 3-year-old granddaughter, Inday Sophie never failed us to do a simple task which she could carry on. She did the cleaning and gathering of falling leaves, the hauling of cut grasses and twigs to the compost pit without being told to do.

Toto Jun did much of the hauling of cut grasses and branches too with the help of his nephew, nieces. Almon did the gathering of scattered cut grasses, trimmed leaves, twigs and branches of trees within the school campus.

The Interns

Three members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) of La Carlota City have undergone hands-on training in cooking at the Mama Linda's Inato BBQ and Seafoods Haus in Cebu recently.

Ronie Estardo, Arlene G. Malacaman, and Cristina Millado travel to Cebu to undergo their internship. They were met by Randy Pino, their internship coordinator on the first day. And they were met by Mary Ann, the owner of the Mama Linda's Inator BBQ and Seafoods Haus on the 2nd day.

ML Master Chef John instructed them on the basic foods preparation. They were asked on what menu they were going to prepare and cook.

Malacaman cooked soup no. 5, Lantiaw. Millado did her salted shrimp. And Estardo tackled the crispy, boneless Bakasi menu. MC John supervised them while they're cooking.

My family members wear the yellow T-shirt to welcome the new year 2016 to signify the bright hope for the said year in all their undertakings. We do still working on for the improvement of ourselves spiritually, believing that everything would be possible for unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and in the unfeigned love of our Heavenly Father.

This year we were indeed happy for the presence of our eldest son, Dondon who has been long absence for he has been living in Mindanao for almost 4 years. Now he has made it to join with us in our New Year's revelry, in New Year's eve supper, and in our yearly beach outing to strengthen our family bonding by spending our best time in our favorite beach resort, Soleo Beach, San Enrique, Negros Occidental, Philippines.

We are also honored by the presence of the best friend of our 2nd elder daughter, Gingging. We indeed happy for her. We consider her as one of the members of our family. She's friendly and caring for us.

Everyone in our family is well accounted for except for our 3rd elder daughter, An An who goes abroad in December 2016. Anyway at least in this year, my 6 children are complete. They are as follows Dondon, the eldest son; Dona Greece Camporazo-Tolones, Genevieve Aura, Gynrey Camporazo-Jaud, Geeree, and Gilbor Junior.

Our FAMILY PRAYER as I led it while the members of our family gathered together and also I included the blessing for our media noche victuals (midnight dinner). It was a great family experience we had had as we welcome the year 2016 for we believe that the family that prays together, stays together. So be it.

December 15 is the opening of the Festival of Lights in the small city of La Carlota, Negros Occidental, Philippines and will culminate on January 1, New Year's eve.

Nativity 2015

It is a tradition among the Mangkasanons, native of La Carlota to have a Festival of Lights every year to usher the coming or the birth of Jesus as religious observed by the Catholics and to welcome the New Year.

The plaza is filled with sea of people coming from nearby cities and municipalities to see the various glistening, glittering lights all over the place. You could overhear anyone's cheers, the wow, the amazement which the lights displayed.

From its starting date until New Year's Day, there would be a nightly Christmas presentation of songs, dances and tableau to entertain the visiting tourists, visitors and even the La Carloteños themselves. Schools, religious sectors and other people's organizations are to share their respective best entertainment.

The Theme: NEODELIC

Last year theme was "White Christmas".

This year's theme as mentioned is "neodelic" which is a combination of "neon" and "psychedelic". It could be interpreted as I see it as lights playing thrill in ourselves as we are overjoyed by the spirit of Christmas which our Father in Heaven's love through his Son.

Neodelic could make everyone in the public plaza of the small city of La Carlota mesmerize by the time all the lights on the trees, 2 main edifices are on after a short program.

The theme was conceptualized by the Tourism Department of the City with the collaboration of various artists.

Ma. Carissa Trenuela-Camporazo, we fondly call her Inday Carissa is celebrating her 22nd birthday today, December 6. She is the wife of our youngest son, Gilbor Camporazo, Jr.

Inday Carissa lives in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, Philippines. She is the 3rd of the 4 daughters of Ronie Trenuel and the late Melanie Trenuela. There are 4 of them all in the family. She is the youngest daughter.

She has the ambition to be a successful accountant someday.

Balabag Elementary School Facelifted

Balabag Elementary School, a humble public elementary school in the Division of La Carlota, which is located at the Barangay Balabag, 7.5 kilometers from the city proper of La Carlota has improved her physical facilities in preparation for the evaluation for Seal of Excellence of the Division.

Faculty President Raffy P. Medes initiated the cleaning of the surroundings with the cooperation of the parents of the pupils. Other teachers of the school followed suit. They also maintained the cleanliness of their assigned ground and garden.

Faculty Vice President Jose Erwin Navio provided the plain sheets for the notice of nature advocacy, polite greetings, among others.

School Guidance Coordinator Mailyn M. Miguel updated the recording data of the school from her comparative enrollment of three years, pupils academic performance, and extra-curricular activities.

Mr. Mike Pabalate and her wife, Roselyn together with Mrs. Angelica Tuala, Ms. Sarah Adenix updated the documents intended for the curriculum, minutes and resolutions adopted by pupils' organization and school governing council.

School science coordinator Ma. Juvy Tadlan took care of her medical garden with the help of her advisory pupils. Grade one teachers Ms. Mahal Demabildo and Ms. Gerose Bedlan also updated their SBM documents. Kinder teacher Mrs. Rima Jane Cadena printed out the composition of school disaster risk reduction management in blow up tarpaper.

Grade two teacher Ms. Jocelyn D. Tolosa and Grade six substitute teacher Ms. Ana Rey Abad weeded out and cleaned their ground assignment, replanted new ornamental plants and repainted the plant boxes.

Punong Barangay Joel Rumbines provided the bushcutting of tall grasses on the school ground. As overall physical improvement of the school, gratefulness is due to the PTA officers led by Mrs. Mary Jane Ramo and to the Supreme Pupils Government (SPG) led by Rainier Medes.

The school has created her image, conducive to learning, safe to the learners, and clean to the eyes of the community residents and school stakeholders.

To the pupils, parents, PTA officers, teachers and the Barangay officials, as a school principal, your services and cooperation are beyond compare. What you have shown as the physical improvement of the school is concered. I repeat this is your work, our work and everybody's work that we have made our school, a real one.

Ramos on August 12, 1996, declaring the 4th Sunday of September thereafter as Family Thanksgiving Day edifies this wholesome activity among the families of Latter-day Saints (LDS), a short name for the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This year's theme is focused on gender equality and children's rights in contemporary families.

This week-long national family celebration was culminated by a street parade, participated in by the 8 branches of La Carlota Philippines District. These may include a unit from San Enrique, Ayungon in Valladolid, La Carlota First and Second, Masville in Brgy. Cubay, Manggapsang in Brgy. Haguimit, La Castellana, and Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.

Followed by a program graced by an Acting City Mayor of La Carlota, Jacky Jalandoni III, Ramon Alvañez of Mayor's Office, DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Portia M. Mallorca, and a married couple, Dionela Flores-Madrona, head of DSWD Negros Occidental Pantawid Pamilya Operations and Mr. Juvenile E. Madrona, Visayas Coordinator, Philippine Against Child Trafficking (PACT) respectively.

Wholesome Activity

I provided my family members a yellow T-shirts printed with a silhouette of a happy family of a father, a mother, and a three kids, and rays of a sun at the background, and a 3 by 5 tarpaulin of our family group picture.

Those who participated in the street parade were my eldest daughter, Dona Greece, her hubby Almon and only one daughter Adgel. Also joined with us were my youngest daughter Geeree, my youngest son Gilbor and his wife Ma. Carissa. Our three grandchildren from our 3rd elder daughter An An joined. They're Bulaklak, Panie and Inday Sophie, a smart one. And one grandson, Bryan from our Eldest son, Dondon. My wife Rebing and I were happy to see them enjoying an-hour of parade in the main thorougfares of the city.

The motorized tricycle of our son-in-law Almon convoyed us. While we were about to reach our Church meetinghouse in San Agustin Street, a shower started falling, until a soft rain finally came. Those who were following us kept on rushing to avoid getting wet of the rain.

Inday Sophie, our 2-year old daughter loved the walking, carrying an orange inflated balloon. It was her first street parade experience.

We had a posterity family picture before we started off for the parade. Our granchildren also carried a flaglets prepared by their aunt Geeree a night before.

I got six children. Only three were present. Gingging, our 2nd daughter is in Kuwait working as a cook. Dondon, our eldest son is in Mindanao. While An An is in Iloilo at that time following up her papers to work abroad.

Hearty Lunch

The rooms in our Church meetinghouse were full of members coming from other branches. Those members like La Carlota First and Second Branches just took spaces along the corridor to eat their lunch.

Our branch provided every family a separate menu of sauced, boiled dressed chicken for their viand and a several cups of cooked rice.

My family members settled at the porch near the 3rd entrance of the Church.

Everyone was taking their cooked rice from my wife who prepared it two hours before we took off to Church and joined the morning parade, while Almon took our viand ration from the branch.

We enjoyed our lunch. A hearty lunch as we consider it.

My wife and I loved seeing our family members enjoying eating their lunch. After our lunch, everyone took their part in cleaning the place where we had our lunch.

Again my wife and I have in mind that this is a family, a happy family we would have if everyone is happy, if everyone is eating together, and everyone is sharing. Then we could say, a family could be together forever and ever.
