WestStar Cayman broadcast FAIL!

So this has happened on various channesl several times over the last month. The quality of regular broadcasts is terrible, and often the wrong aspect ratio. To the point that channels like NBC’s logo is off the screen and you can’t see the entire picture. To top it all off WestStar TV also badly overwrite the Dish Network commercials with local ones they obviously charge for.
I often wonder and am highly suspicious of if they buy the Dish Network channels legitimately and pay to rebroadcast them. It just seems unlikely if I get Dish Network errors, and the broadcast is not up to Dish Network standards.

Either way I am fed up with sub par cable
tv from WestStar and am loving my media center pc more and more. It even eliminates mindless tv that really isn’t worth watching.

Oh and the price .. for the $50 I pay WestStar TV a month Dish Network offers a 250 channel package (not less than 50 channels) that includes several channels WestStar TV package up and sell seperately which would cost at least $85ci a month so over $100usd thats over double the price of the same stuff Dish Network“>Dish Network sells. Just doesn’t add up to me.

Tropical Storm Earl

It’s about that time of year when we should be expecting some storms passing by. The water is warm, corals are bleaching, so lets have some storms to cool it all down. Of course you always run the risk of a direct hit, but we won’t think about that this early in the year.

Will keep an eye on this one and probably the rest of the storms that brew from here on out. Gifts and curses all at the same time these silly hurricanes.

My Alarm Clock Morphed!

So I have been woken up the last few days by a very needy pussy cat. Apparently she does this to Sam all the time, Sam hasn’t been here for almost a month now. I guess I became the surrogate!
This is after she has calmed down a bit, her face is literally in my face maybe an inch away. This is what happens after she has been kneading the pillow right by my head, when that doesn’t wake me up (or at least I don’t let her know it woke me up) she kneads (read stomps) on my face. When I wake up she does this, knowing she will soon get breakfast and a walk outside.

Computer troubles

About a month ago I put my laptop down on my wallet which has quite a strong magnet in it to hold the notes in the bill fold. The hard drive was buggered. That happened in the Bahamas, so I waited until I got home. It has taken a lot of testing, but it ended up looking like it’s just the hard drive broken (quite badly, 588 sectors or something so far are bad). Before repairing my Laptop, using an old one I decided to sort out my backup system, make sure everything is there, and increase the amount of space I have in my Linksys NAS200, I was only storing 500gb, not that much really.
After trying to work out the best way to do it, and 3 hours on the phone to Linksys I found out this was going to take a while, like 10 days as the LAN speeds of the NAS200 seem to top out around 500 to 600kbps but average around 400kbps, painfully slow. I managed to increase this by doing it all to a USB drive and starting from scratch on the NAS, only took 4 days of my only computer taken up by transferring data!
So now I have my broken laptop hard drive in an external enclosure and am running chk dsk on it. Not sure if it will allow me to get any data off afterwards but I hope so! It is saying it is 10% done and that is 12 hours since it started, Would be so much easier to buy a new one, but that doesn’t seem like an option right now, I want other toys first!

This could take a while.
