I picked up a Whole Foods Market Organic Tangerine lip balm on a whim. What can I say? I’m a sucker for orange flavor and I tend to fall for in store marketing! So,I have yet another lip balm added to my massive collection, and it is a good one!

The texture is fairly buttery, which I prefer over oily. I like my balms to have some thickness to them, with waxy for outdoors and buttery for regular wear. Ingredients are coconut oil, beeswax, extra virgin olive oil, shea butter, tangerine essential oil, cocoa butter, orange essential oil, hemp seed oil, and vitamin E.  All are organic.

The balm is lightly scented and flavored. It also was quite affordable at $1.99. Usually I complain that Whole Foods is overpriced, but this one is a good value.

The pic isn’t the greatest (taken with the iphone, sorry). But it looks like a standard lip balm–nobody is likely going to buy this one for its packaging appearance!

I love the bright shades of the MAC Alice+Oliva Collection, due out on July 8, 2010. Shades: If Its Pink , I Want Candy, and Sparkilicious

It is pretty lip gloss, but I just can’t see myself wearing the yellow. Sparkilicious works nicely over various lip shades for me, and the Partylicious pigment really is stunning, as are the nail polish shades.

Too Faced Glamour Gloss is a high pigment lip plumping gloss that comes in a variety of nice shades. I gave two shades a try and was quite impressed with the level of pigment in this non-sticky gloss. Many lip plumpers are more on the oily and sheer side, so some high pigment color is nice to see! I found that the plumper had a decent amount of tingle, and enough to notice a bit of plumping, but it wasn’t overbearing. Keep in mind that the best pumpers will tingle some. Personally I like the sensation.

So, my lips have been super dry lately, even though I constantly wear lip balm or gloss. I kept trying my many favorite balms and nothing was curing the dryness. Those favorites seem to be best for prevention rather than for cure.

So, what has helped the most? Good old Chapstick, specifically, Chapstick True Shimmer (link is to previous review) because it was what I had around and is my favorite from that brand anyway (although the Chapstick Fresh Effect line is nice too). Plenty of folks complain that Chapstick isn’t all natural, and it contains petrolatum, not to mention a bunch of other ingredients that don’t appear to be natural. But right now it is what is working!

So I figured I would give it shout out. With all the fancy balms out there these days, sometimes going to back to basics, despite all the non-natural ingredients, is a bit refreshing.

Sue Devitt is one of those cosmetic companies that can get overlooked, but shouldn’t. The company always has quality items and their lip products are no exception. I recently gave a Sue Devitt Lip Intensifier Pencil in Kirakira and a Sue Devitt Microquatic Lip Enhancing Gloss in Telina a try.

The lip pencil is rather neat and unique. It is thicker than standard pencils, yet not as thick as a lip crayon. It also is on the soft side, but not so soft that lining is difficult. The result is that you can line well with it, but also fill in well with it. The shade is also a good neutral that would wear well across multiple skin shades. Since I like to fill in with liner before putting on other lip products, this one has quickly become a regularly used product for me.

The Sue Devitt gloss is also quite nice. It wears sheer, but is still pretty well pigmented. It is not at all sticky and has just a hint of shimmer to it. Mostly it is all shine. The gloss has a brush applicator. I noticed that the shade Telina on the Beauty.com site and in product photos looks rather Fuchsia, when it actually is a nice light pink. So, I grabbed it and the pencil and made swatches. Those are below.
