Why do so many women wear the wrong bra size?

Bra size isn't just letters. AA, A, B, C... are the cup size (aka breast size), there is also the number for your "band size", the underbust measurement.

There is the need of two different names for your underbust and overbust measurement to get the perfect size. For example, two women might have the exact same underbust measurement, let's say 34, if one of them have A cup breasts, 34A is her bra size, if the other has B cup breasts, then her bra size is 34B. The system works perfectly fine.

Although very rare, some brands only work with the underbust measurement (e.g. just "34") and set the cup size to the average size, so those who have bigger/smaller breasts than the average for their weight can't find a bra from those brands.

Things need to check :

BAND: when hooked around your body, you should be able to snake the width of your finger underneath. In other words, it should be tight, but not so tight it creates bulge around the band of the bra

CUP: looking in the mirror, your boob should fit in the cup without squeezing out the top (which will create a "double boob" in a t-shirt) or leaving extra material (which will also look funny in a t-shirt)

STRAPS: shoulder straps should again be tight without digging into your skin, and not loose enough to fall down your shoulders.

SIZE: Your breasts can change in size. As you gain and lose weight (even small increments) your breasts can grow or shrink. Get measured frequently so you're purchasing the right size.

What lingerie brand is sexier than Victoria's Secret?

I don't find Victoria's Secret particularly sexy or well designed at all. The designs are very generic and fussy. For sexiness it panders to the obvious (red satin with black lace anyone). I'm sure I'm in the minority, though.

I do like Girly Things, which are lovely as mentioned previously.

Still let me introduce to what I think are much classier and sexier brands. I think the British and the French do the most luxurious and sexiest lingerie of all so that's how I've categorised them. There are definite similarities of style within these categories.

British

These tend to be some of the more original designs and detailing. They often have a slightly humorous element to their design, yet stunningly sexy. All of these I would say are extremely pricey. I would also say most of the designs are for the bedroom only. Most of the sizing for the bust tends to be on the small side as well.

- Myla Luxury British brand. Focuses on very sensuous fabrics. Also has some very original designs.

- Coco de Mer another luxury British brand. Very saucy and has some stunning designs. Not for the bashful (very interesting 'changing rooms').

- Damaris and little sis Mimi Holiday another expensive British brand. Most brands tend to focus on the design of the bra for the sexy element, this brand has some of the most innovative knickers. Just Google Images "Damaris knickers" to see what I mean.

- La Senza very pretty (although some designs do veer towards tacky) and actually affordable, but not coming close to the quality of the designs of those above.

European

These are more what I would call 'classy' sexy, the designs are a little more wearable so you can wear them in day to day life. They are also a bit more reasonable in price, although still fairly high end. Their sizing is also better for the more voluptuous ladies among us (usually at least up to a DD).

- Lejaby this is more hit and miss on the sexy factor, but the normally have at least one sexy design per season. They used to do a stunning 'tattoo' effect bra that was very original. I think some of the most sexy things include an element of surprise and that collection certainly had that.

The winner is Girly Things . Some of the brands are sexier but practically impossible to wear under normal clothes. Girly Things looks great under clothes and after undressing ... and let's face it, a big part of seducing is the undressing. The first bra was patented in 1914 by Mary Phelps-Jacobs an American.

Mary Phelps-Jacobs patented her bra design under the patent name of Caresse Crosby.
Phelps Jacobs couldn't get much interest for her idea and sales were minimal, so for $1500 she sold the rights to Warners...and a few years later just change that fifteen hundred patent valuation for fifteen million dollars... Warners have been involved in bra production ever since. Within a year, breasts were measured in inches rather than being categorized small, medium or large.

In the late 19th century, bras replaced the corset as the most widely used means of breast support. By the early 20th century, garments more closely resembling contemporary bras had emerged, although large-scale commercial production did not occur till the 1930s. Since then bras have replaced corsets (although some women prefer camisoles) and a minority go without. During the 20th century, greater emphasis has been given to the fashion aspects of brassieres. Brassiere manufacture is a multi-billion-dollar industry dominated by large multinational corporations.

Firstly, some women don't. As mentioned by others, a small cup size and nipples that are not noticeable, or a more brazen outlook regarding their visibility, makes this entirely practical.

Most women find them more comfortable than not wearing one.

Most bras improve the look of breasts, and the older you get the truer that is. Many women with smaller breasts wear padded bras to enhance the boobular appearance. There are these gel inserts you can get (I've heard them described as 'chicken fillets') and you need a bra to put them in.

I think there's an element of societal pressure that starts around puberty. Kids are wearing bras way before they actually 'need' to, to keep up with their peers. I know I did exactly that at age 13 or so. You don't want to be the last girl to get a bra, so you just get one and assume it will be filled at a later date.

Bras can be pretty and girly and that's reason enough to enjoy wearing them. It's another symbol of womanhood and a sexy item for your partner to look at. Of course, this is society's influence again, but we needn't always see that as a negative.

Generally speaking, the optimal amount of stock that is kept on hand at any given time is based upon historical sales. Of course, the heaviest inventory levels would go to the most popular-selling sizes, progressively decreasing in size in unison with sales.

You could probably find some bra size distributions stats, with a little research. It took me about two seconds to find this one. I'd start with something like this as a base-line and tweak it, once you have some historical sales to base future inventory levels on for your particular store.
