There are kids parties and then there are kids parties that are organized in and around your swimming pool. The water element adds a new dimension to the whole idea of having fun. This is because adding water into any game makes it awesome. If you are already in the habit of organizing weekly parties at your home to get all your friends and family members pumped up and rejuvenated for the upcoming week, then you can bring in some serious variation with a kids pool party.

With every new dimension that you add to your party, there comes an additional responsibility. Because water is part of the equation there are some additions that you can make to your party plan to make it more, memorable and also allow for some impressive party photos and videos.

The best thing about a pool party is that you only need to include some beach balls and some music to get the party started.

Preparing The Pool

All parties start with preparation. With a pool party you have to start by preparing the pool. There is the basic hygiene portion of preparing the pool. Depending on how much of a do-it-yourself person you are, you can choose to take care of the pool yourself. Alternatively, you could simply place a call with the pool maintenance service to prepare the pool for the upcoming kid’s party. This is an essential activity because like it or not, water is a fantastic carrier of disease causing germs. So, a clean pool is essential.

Once you have taken care of the basics, the next and definitely the more interesting aspect of a pool party preparation is preparing it for the party.

Enhance Your Pool

One idea that we like the most when it comes to pool parties is to make the pool like it is a beach. Think of beach and you are thinking of sun, palm trees and hot sun. The hot sun is not under your control, except to hope that you organize the party during day time and hope the sun smiles upon your party. If you really want the sun, it may not be farfetched to check the weather prediction sites or the weather channel and time the party day to the day when the sun is brightest.

The next challenge is to get the palm trees. We are not the only ones who are thinking of getting some palm trees next to our pool. A lot of people do that and that is why you can get these tiny, miniaturized and potted palm trees and arrange them around your pool. If you are planning to have pool parties all the time, then you could plant some palm trees in your garden surrounding the pool for a more permanent and natural effect.

The palm trees and the hot sun are only half the cause for an almost authentic beach experience. To further cement this wonderful illusion that you are at the beach and not in your backyard, go a little further and build your own sand pile next to the pool. You could designate a section next to your pool as the sand area and build a sand reserve. You could make it as big and as small as you want.

The last thing to add and complete this sandy picture is to add some beach stones in and around the stand. With that small improvement, you have a nice backyard pool that is close to a beach you can possibly prepare.

Pool Gear And Safety

This is a pool party and that means all the party participants should bring their pool wear. In the heat of arranging everything you may forget to mention that it is a pool party in the invitation. Don’t make this mistake or you will have a lot of people standing on the sidelines and hate the party because they had no clue that they were supposed to bring swimwear with them.

We have a lot of kids and their parents and a whole bunch of people playing in and around the pool. That means, you will have to designate yourself and at least a couple of other adults to be on pool watch. At the beach, you have lifeguards and since this is your backyard pool, someone has to take up this important responsibility. Ensure that you pick a group of individuals who are known to not slack off when given responsibilities. Don’t get someone who is easily distracted because this is a safety issue.

The list of rides and activities is pretty much endless, and everything is cheerful and holiday-oriented. So grab the kids and head on out to Colorado this summer to check out the North Pole and Santa’s Workshop in Cascade, Colorado!

Santa’s Land in Cherokee, NC

Open from March through November of every year, Santa’s Land is a can’t miss spot when it comes to holiday-related theme parks. The kids can enjoy all of the usual attractions that make theme parks so awesome, but everything, again, revolves around Christmas!

Plus, at Santa’s Land, kids will have the chance to visit a zoo area of the park where they can pet and feed Santa’s reindeer, as well as watch the pros feed a pair of Santa’s baby bears! Pop a quarter in one of the corn feeders outside Santa’s deer barn and the kids can feed as many deer as they want right out of their hands.

Santa’s Workshop in North Pole, NY

This version of Santa’s Workshop is so huge that they’ve actually named the whole surrounding area North Pole, NY. Located deep in the northern Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY (just a little shy of the Canadian border), Santa’s Workshop has been a hub of holiday activity all year long for over 70 years, also making it the oldest theme park in all of America.

The charm and nostalgia of the little village has made it an attraction for almost a century, and the free-range animals that once wandered the streets of the village made Santa’s Workshop the world’s first ever petting zoo (the animals are no longer there, unfortunately). Kids can enjoy visiting with their favorite characters, watching skits and sketches and wandering around the village that is the North Pole. Furthermore, dinner time can be particularly problematic if you have younger children or picky eaters. So how can you make dinner time a pleasant part of the day and have everyone enjoy the meal? Here is some food for thought: 7 steps to getting your kids to love dinner time.

Get them involved in cooking – okay, so it might take longer and it might get messier, but involving children in preparation and cooking is sure to make them more interested in the final product. Get creative, allowing them to customize their food into shapes and designs, or even adding faces and names. They will definitely enjoy eating their own creations, and serving them to other people in the family too.

Make food fun – one idea is to prepare a nibble tray, with bite-size portions of colorful but nutritious food. Younger children love variety, and they can easily eat this food with their hands and switch between foods. You could even go a step further by coming up with playful names for each finger food. The way you serve food also matters. If they don’t want to eat fruit, make them a smoothie. Cut food into shapes or add dips to less desirable foods. Serve things they like as a treat but make a healthy version of them. There are several ways to make it more appealing and fun.

Theme nights and games – have theme nights and use your imagination, with costumes, flags, and other appropriate props. It’s educational and fun, and also encourages everyone to branch out and try different cuisines. Playing simple games is also sure to have kids looking forward to dinner time. Although make sure that activities remain calm and don’t interfere too much with eating.

Company – make dinner time a nice time for family to talk about the day and spend time together. Of course, sometimes it’s not practical, and things come up or go off schedule, but even if you can make it a goal, and the rule instead of the exception, it will be worth it. This way, children will not only associate dinner time with food, but also with family fun. It also gives everyone a chance to bond, resolve conflict, and learn from each other. You could even let them bring a friend over occasionally.

Timing – if your child is too hungry or not hungry enough, you have a problem either way. Going too long without food will cause your child’s blood sugar levels to drop and their behavior to deteriorate. But if your kids fill up on snacks right before dinner, then they won’t be hungry enough to eat their proper meal. The Guardian encourages parents to try and strike a balance between the two and try to maintain at least a rough schedule for snacks and meals, to eliminate this problem.

Portion sizes – a child’s stomach is about the size of their fist, so keep this in mind when providing servings. Keep portions small and wait for kids to ask for more if they want more. Let them set the pace as much as possible. Always keep in mind that maybe when they say they are full, they really are full! It’s best not to get into too much of a battle over this, because it will ruin their dinner experience as well as everyone else’s. Of course, if you know they’re not really full, you could always try the “just one more bite” approach.

Dessert – promising dessert at the end of their meal is a good incentive for children, providing them with an end goal and something to look forward to. It reminds them that good behavior will be rewarded and that sometimes they will have to do things they don’t want to do, in order to do what they like doing. These are not only great dinner lessons, but life lessons! Just make sure you don’t give in and let them have the dessert without finishing their main meal.
