Back in 2009 I discovered a phenomenal company called Life without Plastic when I had the opportunity of doing a review and giveaway with them. They sent me a Stain­less Steel Air­tight Water­tight Food Stor­age Con­tainer as well as a Stain­less Steel Hot Meal Con­tainer to test out, and these 2 products are still used at my house to this day! These products rock, period!!

We know too much plas­tic ruins the earth. And plas­tics con­tain­ing BPA ruin our health. BPA is short for bisphe­nol A, and stud­ies have shown that it can cause can­cer and other med­ical ill­nesses in ani­mals. For some, it can be hard to imag­ine a world with­out plas­tic – espe­cially plas­tic bags.

The cons of using plas­tic bags are so over­whelm­ing I don’t think I can think of any pros. They are a huge pol­lu­tion prob­lem, their light­weight design allows them to blow away eas­ily. The fact that they are free gives them no value so peo­ple don’t think about how they dis­pose of them. They are made from petro­leum, which could be used for fuel or energy. They don’t biode­grade, instead they break­down and are mis­taken for food and are often eaten by both land and marine ani­mals which is fatal. They are found every­where and many ani­mals become fatally entangled.

They are not biodegrad­able, so they will per­sist pretty much for­ever, wher­ever they end up. Land­fills if we are lucky, but because of their wide­spread use and their abil­ity to fly away in the wind, they can be a big part of the trash along roads and fields. If they get into the water, they look like food and end up clog­ging the stom­achs of a vari­ety of ani­mals, most famously sea tur­tles look­ing for jellyfish.

The recy­cling of plas­tic bags, while prefer­able to other dis­posal meth­ods, is not cost-effective. Plas­tic bags have only existed for 25 years yet the bil­lions that have been pro­duced since then have caused immea­sur­able dam­age to the envi­ron­ment and to wildlife.

What’s the story?

Following a premonition, Mia sets out on a cross continental journey, though mountains and jungles in search of her father, who has been trapped in a landslide at a construction site on a remote tropical lake.  In the middle of the lake stands the ancient Tree of Life, watched over by innocent, bumbling forest spirits called the Migoo, who grow and change shape as they please, morphing from small childlike beings to petulant giants.  The Migoo have been disrupting the construction to protect this sacred site – and now together with Mia they join in a fight to find Mia’s father and save the Tree, with the future of life on Earth hanging in the balance.

Mia and the Migoo isn’t just beautiful to look at it, its an entertaining and thoughtful story. I hesitate in using the word, as people have the impression a movie can’t say anything of substance without being preachy, but it also contains some nice messages about respect: self-respect, respect for others, and respect for the world around you. While some might bridle at the rather subversive idea that the environment and caring for those around you is more important than turning a profit, considering how so much popular entertainment aimed at children these days celebrates consumerism it makes for a refreshing change. The only problem is the message is so subtle it will probably be lost on most of its audience. While Girerd and company are to be commended for creating something which doesn’t assume its audience is stupid, when people are used to being bludgeoned over the head they might not respond to a gentle tap on the shoulder.

The story is a combination of a classic road trip and adventure as young Mia leaves her village to look for her father, Pedro. He has taken a job far from home on a construction site building a resort in a remote wilderness area. Strange accidents have been happening on the site, cranes have fallen over and there have been land slides. When Pedro hears an odd noise in one of the tunnels they are building on the site he goes to investigate and is trapped by a cave in. Hundreds of miles away Mia wakes up from a dream of her father in trouble. With her mother already dead, she’s not prepared to lose her father and after visiting her mother’s grave heads out to find him.

Aldrin lives in a world so completely different from Mia it might as well be on another planet. His mother and father are divorced and his father, Jekhide, the businessman behind the development project Pedro was working at, is a workaholic who ignores him. His mother is a scientist studying the effects of global warming on the Antarctic ice-cap, so in some ways Aldrin spends the film in much the same way as Mia, looking for his father. For even though he ends up travelling with Jekhide to the construction site to investigate the mysterious accidents, they might as well be hundreds of miles apart even when they’re in the same room. In so many ways Aldrin is the parent in their relationship as he’s always having to take his father to task for his self-centred and selfish behaviour.

Study Reveals Canadians Choose the Power of the Pen to Help Organize Hectic Lifestyles

How to Make Your To-Do List Doable

Do you often feel overwhelmed by the amount of work or chores you have to do or do you sometimes just forget to do something important?  All of these are symptoms of not keeping a proper “to-do list.” There’s no better feeling than checking something off your list — Finished! Complete! Mission Accomplished!   To ensure your to-do list guides you through your day, Erica has these time-saving tips!

• Set aside 10 to 15 minutes before you go to bed or as soon as you wake up in the morning to jot a to-do list for the day;
• Keep your list short (under 20 items) and ensure it is on one page and can be carried with you wherever you go;
• Try assigning tasks to hourly slots, even if exact timing isn’t crucial;
• Figure out when you are most productive and alert. Schedule the more demanding tasks during these times;
• Schedule an easy job after a difficult one or a long task after a short one to keep yourself stimulated.
• Use specific, active verbs when you tell yourself to do something and include as much information as possible (i.e. Phone the dentist at 555‑1235 to book an appointment the first week of October)
• Keep a pen and pad of paper by your bed at night.  Write down any ideas or tasks you think of thru the night so you can clear your mind and have a restful, worry-free sleep.
• Log your completed tasks and revel in your own productivity!

“The process of putting pen to paper for important notes and lists makes it a personal commitment and helps retain the tasks more firmly in our minds,” says Erica. “I also believe a person’s hand-writing is expressive and very special and I love receiving hand written lists and notes from my children.  Knowing they took the time to handwrite a note or card for me is very intimate and shows thought and care.  Those take pride of place in my office!”

This is the story of Chula, a Shetland Sheepdog who travels to France, from California, at the grand old age of nine. It chronicles her adventures from Provence, to Paris, and back home again. There is even a handy hints and tips for travelling on an aeroplane with a dog which is extremely helpful!! This book was written about Chula’s point of view when travelling.

As a pet owner, I could really appreciate the humorous slant that the dog’s perspective gives.

Chula endured a bit of a walk on the wild side, boldly snatching a baguette from a shopper’s bag as the delicious aroma must have been too tempting! Every day was a new adventure – even the scary one in the South of France involving thousands of animals Chula had never seen before, and that was a bit much for her according to Sherry, but Chula gamely conquered her fears when she met these creatures later in the countryside!

This book is not dull or boring, that’s for sure!! Pack with the most excellent adventures, I recommend that everyone own a copy!!

As many of you know already, I am a huge fan of try­ing to coax every­body that I know to live a greener life. Going green is not as hard as one thinks, it can be done very eas­ily. Less waste, less cost, and less of leav­ing a foot­print on mother earth. I find all of this very impor­tant, as should you.

Recy­cling is an action you must take right now and a vital one con­sid­er­ing we are cur­rently using our planet’s resources faster than they can be renewed. Today, tonight and tomor­row recy­cling is an ongo­ing aware­ness to improve our abil­ity to sus­tain life on Earth. Your role in recy­cling can be as small or large as you want it to be. Most things can be recy­cled today, even with our present pro­cess­ing systems.

For some, it can be hard to imag­ine a world with­out plas­tic – espe­cially plas­tic bags.

The cons of using plas­tic bags are so over­whelm­ing I don’t think I can think of any pros. They are a huge pol­lu­tion prob­lem, their light­weight design allows them to blow away eas­ily. The fact that they are free gives them no value so peo­ple don’t think about how they dis­pose of them. They are made from petro­leum, which could be used for fuel or energy. They don’t biode­grade, instead they break­down and are mis­taken for food and are often eaten by both land and marine ani­mals which is fatal. They are found every­where and many ani­mals become fatally entangled.

They are not biodegrad­able, so they will per­sist pretty much for­ever, wher­ever they end up. Land­fills if we are lucky, but because of their wide­spread use and their abil­ity to fly away in the wind, they can be a big part of the trash along roads and fields. If they get into the water, they look like food and end up clog­ging the stom­achs of a vari­ety of ani­mals, most famously sea tur­tles look­ing for jellyfish.

The recy­cling of plas­tic bags, while prefer­able to other dis­posal meth­ods, is not cost-effective. Plas­tic bags have only existed for 25 years yet the bil­lions that have been pro­duced since then have caused immea­sur­able dam­age to the envi­ron­ment and to wildlife.

With that in mind, I was ecstatic to find ECOVER while surfing the web who have already taken these steps toward a more happy and greener world!
