It's a crying shame in 2010 that anywhere in the U.S. a gay couple cannot adopt a child who needs and deserves loving parents. As for owning a gun, how is that relevant to gays adopting? Responsible people who own guns can be good parents too. WTF? This is ridiculous. There is no correlation whatsoever to the two groups. It's nonsense.

Is this it? Just curious if GLAAD has been willing to do anything beyond this limp blog entry to respond. Has anyone heard any follow-up information about what "reaching out" to NBC entailed? Or what NBC said in response? I have no problem with media that shows the realities of our lives, warts and all (HBO, for example, has done an excellent job bringing us 3D LGBT characters) but this episode was completely unrecognizable fantasy based on lazy, outdated stereotypes. It was quite simply exploitative and I'm disappointed, though not too surprised, that GLAAD has fallen asleep at the switch -- or in the corporate pocket. Not sure which. But the invites for the big GLAAD galas do keep coming...

I couldn't agree more with Liz. This was a joke and amateur hour by NBC and the producers. I love SVU and have watched it for years, but this was painful to watch. The script, the characters, the storyline....words cannot describe. If the producers plan to do another show like this, may I strongly suggest that they initiate a 'bring your main gay to work' day and let them review the script first!

My response after contacting Smuckers:

Dear Mr. Stevenson,
Thank you for contacting The J. M. Smucker Company regarding your questions about our Stars on Ice Sponsorship. Our Company has been a proud supporter of figure skating for many years.
We are disappointed that there is untrue and inaccurate information being disseminated about the selection of athletes to perform on the Stars on Ice tour. Each year IMG, owner of the tour, assembles a team of exciting, talented and accomplished figure skaters.
The J. M. Smucker Company would not tolerate discrimination of any kind during the selection process of tour athletes.
The current cast of the Stars on Ice tour is comprised of very talented performers including the Olympic Gold medalist, Evan Lysacek and the current U.S. National Champion, Jeremy Abbott.
While IMG wishes it could accommodate additional talented skaters as part of the cast, the fact is IMG cannot sign every skater to participate on the tour.
We thank you again for contacting us and allowing us the opportunity to clarify the inaccurate information being reported about the Stars on Ice tour.
Sincerely,

Carla Pickle

They said he was'nt "Family Friendly" not that he was anti family and I agree. he's a arrogant self involved, pompous prima-dona and with statement of his such as: "I'm so proud of the other two guys on the team. I'm usually not a team person. I usually don't root for people on my team.” and “My mom is getting drunk already.” He's not a great role model for gay OR straight kids. Dont forget the past issues with PETA. Oh and let's get all ga ga for someone who wont even come out of the closet
He just generally annoys the ever loving @%$# out of me.

This not the first time Meredith has made such a comment. She has done this consistently and too much embarassment to the recipient of her comments.

She did the same thing when Ryan Seacrest described Matt Lauer as a "nice and considerate guy". It was painful to watch Matt squirm in his chair as she was trying to figure out why he was not uncomfortable with Ryan's remarks. Even their two co-hosts were visibly upset by her comments. Note, Matt was classy enough not to denigrate Ryan.

On two other occasions she crticized Matt for hugging a man once with Tiki Barber(said there was something "wrong" with that) the other time Bryant Gumbel(said it reminded her of "Brokeback Mountain").

Not to mention her constant comments about cross-dressing and "men in tights".

Men should not have to defend themselves on national TV for expressing affection. Its about time she apologized!!

GLAAD should have taken on homophobia in figure skating years ago, but better late than never. Scott Hamilton, the founder of "Stars on Ice" is a born again Christian, who speaks on Pat Robertsons 700 Club. Smuckers is a major sponsor of the Republican Party. The only out gay man 'Stars on Ice' ever had was Brian Orser and he was outed years after he was hired. Brian stated in the 'Globe and Mail' at the time, he was worried that his outing would get him fired. The Figure Skating hall of fame is located in Colorado Springs, the home of James Dobson's, Focus on the Family.

If Smuckers just started offering benefits this year, they are years behind on that one.
