Time for a Change

It's always so amazing to me when I get this sudden urge to change everything about myself. It happens every so often and it could be really with anything.. new wardrobe.. new stuff for the apartment.. new work-out.. new diet. I mean seriously, I go through this like 5 times a year and I don't know if anyone else feels this way but when I do, I can't fight it. I am definitely on a path of change lately mainly because I started a new job as the wedding/events coordinator for Scott's Flowers in Manhattan. I am in charge of their social media and am learning a lot about that as well as taking on new ways of designing. I am so immersed now in turning the company I work for into a success that I figured while I'm promoting them, I should be promoting myself as well. So, I am working on a new blog/website and I just hope it all works out! Here's some whimsical designing I've been creating.. oh the possibilities!!

Oh Happy Day!!

One of my favorite things to do is wake up early in the morning.. head over to the new york city flower market and go crazy!!! I recently had that opportunity while I planned and designed flower arrangements for my sisters bridal shower. Oh how I loved creating something out of nothing.. really didn't know what design I was going to do, I just knew I wanted to do something pretty, fresh and bridal of course! Browsing through all the flowers.. it was hard to know what I was going to get but dahlias always win me over along with pink garden roses, antique hydrangea, light pink and white hydrangeas, light peach spray roses and brutia with seeded eucalyptus. All combined really helped to add to the amazing, elegant and joyful day!

A Wedding To Remember

There is nothing like being a part of a wedding.. but being the floral designer and maid of honor at your best friends wedding is pretty darn special. It was so amazing to be able to create the perfect arrangements for my bestie and being that we are both floral designers, it was super fun as well and inspiring! It truly was a wedding to remember!

A lot of what is in these arrangements came from the Boston Flower Market but some hydrangeas and leaves and grasses were hand-picked. The majority of flowers used were thistle, garden roses, yellow ranunculus, seeded eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus, yellow james storie orchids, asclepia, scabiosa, viburnum berry, picked hydrangeas and picked grass as well as brunia.

Ups and Downs

In life we have a lot of them.. ups and downs that is. Even though we all have the power to make good decisions and succeed, we also all have the power to fail. I recently got let go from my new job and although, this was an extremely horrifying experience, I have realized that it is probably for the better. I loved the process of learning what it would be like to work in a real "high end" floral design shop and that alone was a success in my mind. Sometimes personalities clash and this is unfortunate but it happens. I realized through all of this though that life can be hard but taking the time to re-focus is important. I finally feel like I am back on track and can take life on again. So, here is to new jobs and creating a new floral design/event company. This blog will now be used as a way to target new clients. Oh Life.. you are a beautiful struggle,. happier days are ahead.

Seriously have felt out of sorts for a few weeks but starting to feel better again!

Apartment Therapy

Looking for an apartment can really be a tough job. I finally feel as though I found the apartment that is right for me in Brooklyn. Well, right in that it is cheap and newly renovated and the thought of having a brand new kitchen makes me want to jump for joy! Oh yeah and the living space is great.. small rooms but it's New York, no one hangs out in their rooms too much. So, I am pretty excited of course about finding new things for my new spot. They are pretty bad ass and need to be included into my shoe collection immediately which, is starting to get a little crazy these days!! These are a must have.. they really can go with anything!!

Andy Warhol: King of my Castle

I don't really remember when or how I discovered Andy Warhol but in college, I had quite the obsession. I used to go to the book store and read excerpts from his book The Andy Warhol Diaries in between art classes. Something about how he lived his life, how he was the King of this underground Art world that was somehow very main-stream. He was so fearless in a way and never cared what others thought of his Art or of his lifestyle. He really did what he wanted and took chances. That is what life is all about isn't it? Taking a chance. So, I bought a journal awhile back and just started writing in it. It is my Andy Journal. I find so much inspiration in his work and his life. I hope writing the way that he did will help me on my quest for creativity and self expression. Oh Andy!

Cherry Blossom Style

Yay.. it's Spring it's Spring!!! This is definitely my favorite time of year, watching all the buds bloom and everything kind of come back to life again. I am also in love with all the flowering cherry blossom trees, they are so pretty. I must admit that I am totally a girly girl and love light pink, it is one of my favorite colors to wear. It is such a feminine and elegant color. Pretty in Pink she is! Here's some inspirational cherry blossom style!

Show Time

So, now is the time when there are a ton of flower and orchid shows going on. Usually being that I am a New Yorker, I hit up the Brooklyn Botanical Garden orchid show but I decided since I was visiting my sister in Philly this weekend, to go see an orchid show near there at a beautiful place called Longwood Gardens which is right outside of Philly. If you haven't been to an orchid show, please go! Check out where they are in your area.. it should be on everyone's bucket list for real. You won't be dissapointed. It was so awesome to see so many beautiful and exotic orchids, sometimes I really can't believe how much beauty grows out of the ground and we are just lucky to see it all! Check out some of these amazing colored orchids.. I mean they are just insane!!!!

Oh and look there I am by like a million orchids and loving every minute of it!

NEON LOVE

Remember how totally awesome the 80's were? I mean.. yes there was a lot of craziness going on but I do remember being really into neon!! Color and spontaniety of fashion is what made that era so fun! Now that I have created this blog and pretty much figured out what my career goal is... to be an event planner/floral designer/interior designer. I feel as though it is time to figure out how to do it all!! I love doing and creating a big event.. the adrenaline rush is crazy but then to to finally be done and have that feeling of accomplishment is so amazing. I don't know why anyone would want to be a part of a world where we didn't celebrate well... ourselves I guess! We celebrate our goals.. our accomplishments.. and eachother. It is so nice and I feel so priveleged to be a part of other people's special occasions. A book that is a must read for all you party planners out there is food fashion friends by Australian Fashion Designer, Fleur Wood. She really makes party planning look easy and so much fun and has really inspired me to take my event planning dreams to the next level.. check out some of these amazing shots from her book..

Etsy is pretty amazing as you already know or should know by now.. today on Pinterest I saw these amazing porcelain necklaces from Depeapa as well as these awesome wooden bangles and necklaces from vozclothingandart. Geometry is definitely where its at right now and I am lovin' it!! It's just so much fun.. I can't wait to purchase them for Spring.. oh and yes Spring is around the corner!!!

I stumbled into this amazing place on a cold saturday taking my best friend from California shopping in New York. Super! market is this adorable market for independent designers. There were a lot of jewelers set up but out of all of them my two favorites were We See Stars and Kim Lyons Jewelry. I love it when you can find one of a kind jewelry, it makes it so much more special. Check it out if you are ever around the lower east side on a saturday.

Party Time!!

A little decoration can go a long way.. one of our flower brokers set up this party inside a greenhouse.

She did an amazing job and it got me thinking there are so many amazing places to throw parties but I never really thought about having a party in a greenhouse. It was so nice and warm and on a cold winter day, that feeling of summer was just what we all needed.

Plant a Seed... Watch it Grow

Today was a great day of work but without really working. I got to go on a little business trip to some local flower vendors in New Jersey. There is really nothing quite like watching the process of how plants and flowers grow. It is so beautiful and simple.. water and light. It is the reason I have stayed in the flower business for so long. The simplicity of beauty and the connection to the earth from which it grows. You really can't have a bad day when all you do is look at pretty flowers! Here are some shots inside the greenhouses of the development process of tulips and orchids.. Ahhhh Spring is almost here!!

I've been reading a lot of food blogs lately and I found a really great recipe that I have literally been eating every night off of Five and Spice. It is basically a recipe that is cornbread topped with mexican deliciousness. It is so easy to make vegan cornbread and then on top I just sauteed vegan sausage, zucchini, mushrooms, onions, corn, black beans, avocado and salsa. Who knew cornbread would compliment all these flavors so well. They do though so definitely give it a try.. It's my new go to recipe!!
