Nach Baliye is round the corner and right from the opening episode the audience needs to be ready for some hot performances. Bong Bombshell Bipasha Basu will be a part of the line up on the opening night. But its not just Bipasha. Numerous other Bollywood celebs are expected to make an appearance on day one itself!

Main attraction for the first episode will be performances by Karisma Kapoor who will be performaing after a huge gap. Karisma's performance will be choreographed by none other than fellow judge Farah Khan who herself will also perform on one of her hit numbers. This will be the first time that Farah will perform on stage.

"India's silver medalist Vijender Singh will also be there for the first episode. But of course the show will be stolen by Bipasha Basu who will perform on Lucky Boy from Bachna Ae Haseeno," informs a source from the show.

Can you believe this? After churning out four hits in a row during 2007, Akshay Kumar is now charging over Rs 20 crore for a film!

Similarly, Akshay hit films during 2007 - the maximum by any actor in Bollywood - include HEYY BABYY, NAMASTE LONDON, BHOOL BHULAIYA and WELCOME. And, according to industry sources, Akshay has hiked his price and signed the next film by Venus Records for a whopping Rs 22 crore.

Although Akshay is far behind Amitabh Bachchan or Shah Rukh Khan as far as status value in the industry, success has not gone to the lad's head and he is neither interested in any competition with Big B or King Khan. On the other hand, sources close to Akshay say that he is inspired by Rajnikanth who has been charging Rs 16 crore per film following the runaway success of 'SHIVAJI - THE BOSS'. And Akki himself says that he is not too interested in past performances, but is working hard to give more hit films this year.

Akshay's consistency in delivering hit films has already earned him the title of 'Hindi Film Hit Machine' in Bollywood circles. Amitabh Bachchan born October 11, 1942 is a renowned Indian film actor, popular mostly in the Indian sub-continent and the Middle-East. Bachchan was born in the city of Allahabad, India. His father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a well-known poet of Urdu and Hindi. The original last name of the family is "Srivastava"; "Bachchan" was in fact a pen name used by his father. However, when Bachchan entered films he did so under his father's pen name. Now he is never known as anything but Amitabh Bachchan. His immediate family has also adopted the Bachchan surname. His mother is Teji Bachchan.
Bachchan attended Allahabad's Boys' High School, followed by Nainital's Sherwood College, where he gained a degree in art. He later went on to study at Kirori Mal College in Delhi University earning a degree in science. When he was in his twenties, Bachchan gave up a job as freight broker for the shipping firm, Bird and Co., based in Kolkata, to pursue a career in acting.
He is married to actress Jaya Bhaduri (now Bachchan). The couple have two children: daughter Shweta and son Abhishek. Abhishek Bachchan has also entered the Bollywood film industry.

Bahuguna, a well-known politician, and won by a large margin (68.2% of the vote). His political career, however, was short-lived: he resigned after only three years, not finishing his term. At the time of his resignation, it was rumoured that he might have been involved in the Bofors Scandal. Bachchan was not implicated in the case, and has since distanced himself from the Gandhi family. He denies that the two events were connected, commenting that he "should have never got into politics".
He has two grandchildren: Navya Naveli and Agastya Nanda.
In November 2005, Bachchan was admitted to India's Lilavati Hospital, in order to undergo surgery on his intestine. Nach Baliye 4 will reveal its jodis on Friday but talk is that Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat couple Anjali Abrol (Rani) and Kapil Nirmal (Yudhisthi) have been signed for the show.

"Anjali and Kapil are the newest couple in tinsel town after love bloomed on the sets of Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat," a source from the sets said, "this is Anjali’s first ever show - she's only just passed her 10th exams last year!

Anjali is a Kashmirs and plans to settle in Mumbai.

“Usually Anjali's mother always accompanies her on the sets as she is very young," the source said, "but whenever the mother was not around or out for a bit the lovers took the opportunity to mingle, and that is how their love story started."

They are also getting married on the show soon, after their romance bloomed in real life.

Anjali's parents learnt of the relationship only a few days ago, the source said, and this was a source of tension in the family. "Her mother is very protective and keeps a check on her every day," the source said.

In news of other couples, likely contestants Shraddha Nigam and Karan Singh denied they were going through a rough patch in their relationship."We remain very much a couple," Shraddha said, "we are both upset by talk that it's over between us - how can anyone talk like this?"

The show will go on air from October 10 with, it is being said, 11 couples and Farah Khan and Karisma Kapur as judges.

Sachin Tendulkar to make his Bollywood debut

Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar will make his Bollywood debut with a cameo role in a film about the miracles of the elephant-headed Hindu deity Ganesh.

Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of the world's best batsmen, will play himself in Vighnaharta Shri Siddhivinayak, a film about the god, who is sometimes referred to as Siddhivinayak.

"He will play a small role, as himself, either in a song sequence or in an actual scene," said Rajiv Sanghvi, whose company is handling the film's production.

Tendulkar's office confirmed the cricketer would be shooting for the film after he returns from Sri Lanka where India is touring at the moment.

Tendulkar, a devotee of Ganesh, had offered to be a part of the project and will not be charging for the role, Sanghvi said.

The film is being produced by the Siddhivinayak Temple Trust, which looks after a famous temple dedicated to Ganesh in Mumbai.

"Sachin has been a regular at the temple for many years now and he never gives up an opportunity to show his devotion," said Subhash Mayekar, chairman of the trust.

"Vighnaharta Shri Siddhivinayak" is due to begin shooting next month, and will also feature a voice-over by Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan.

“Billo is brief. But I don’t think she can be ignored,” Bipasha asserts on her va-va-voom role in Omkara.

From the cool chic urban queen in Corporate to the wild untamed rural lioness in Omkara, Bipasha reveals quite a range within a month.

Corporate has brought Bipasha immense critical acclaim. “It’s just too much. Till today I get appreciation from even strangers. I know when the praise is genuine. Corporate has got me genuine encouragment. At the first screening of Corporate I had my family and friends watching it.

When the film got nearly over I walked out of the theatre because I’m a very shy person. When I came back my friends family and boyfriend were all clapping. I burst into tears.

I’m too emotional a person. I was like, ‘Oh my God, what are they doing!’ From then on the response has just grown. It’s not like, ‘Bipasha, good job,’ Women and men have connected with the role.

They pick out sequences are describe it in detail. I’ve never had this experience. Corporate has made people have faith in me as an actress. They realize I’m not just about looking good. That’s why I thank Madhur Bhandrkar. I know what I want to and can do.”

Bipasha’s new film Omkara takes her away from the corporate kingdom in Mumbai to the heartless crime-infested hinterland in UP. “Both are realistic films. But I’m not going into art cinema. My aim isn’t to turn into only a realistic actress. I’m not scared of stereotypes.

Right after these two films I’ve Dhoom 2 where I’m larger than life.I feel I can be versatile and the kind of body and body language I’ve been gifted can be projected into any kind of character from a small-town girl in Omkara to the urban entrepreneur in Corporate.”

She admits, looking the part is an essential part of acting. “If you look the part your job becomes easier. Also, I’ve started to look after myself. It’s nice to know people are interested in what I wear, my hair….Till today I don’t have a PR person.

Ninety percent of the actors have people to take care of their image. I manage on my own. And though I get dragged into being talked about all the wrong things the media has been largely responsible towards me.”

Bipasha is all praise for her co-star in Omkara. “Viveik Oberoi is very interested in what he’s doing. He wants to rehearse. He gets into lots of discussions with his director. I’d rather work with an actor who’s keen on his work than someone who just does his shots and leaves.

I know of so many actors who are just facing camera for the heck of it. They’re more bothered with pack-up than packing in a performance. Viveik goes well with the deep-focussed attitude I’ve cultivated towards my work.”

However Bipasha doesn’t believe in making her will prevail when the camera is on. “Though I’m very interested in my work I don’t interfere with the director’s decisions. I don’t think I’ve reached that level of evolvement where I can question the director. I’m guided by the director completely. Yes I make my suggestions. But I clam up if the director disagrees.”

She’s all praise for Vishal Bhardwaj. “He’s lovely to work with. I’ve loved his earlier films. He’s so clear in his head and so humble on the sets. He’s always smiling. He has a sweet sense of humour. And he’s got convictions.

Though I hadn’t attended his acting workshops Vishal knew I could pull them off. He gave me taped dialogues of how my characters should speak. I had Vishal’s voice following me everywhere. And this was my first sync sound.

My co-stars had done it before. I hadn’t. I’ve to admit I like sync sound more than dubbing. Much as I enjoy dubbing the feeling that you get into your voice on location cannot be replicated in a dubbing studio.”

Ironically Bipasha had her voice dubbed in her earlier release. She laughs. “Yeah isn’t that something? But my voice is my voice. You can’t take it away from my personality.”

Finally it’s Bipasha and not Aishwarya who gets into a bikini in Dhoom 2. True? “Ha! I’m not going to tell you. I can’t reveal anything yet. But yes, my character in Dhoom 2 is definitely nothing like Nishigandha in Corporate or Billo on Omkara.”

Amitabh ready to retire?

You may not be shell-shocked at this piece of news, but you sure as hell will be disappointed. The superstar of the millennium, and arguably India’s most loved performing artiste, may soon call it quits. Amitabh Bachchan hasn’t said so himself, but his bushed appearance and weary demeanour of late suggests he may be ready to hang up his boots.
Bachchan has continuously been on the go, moving from one commitment to another. When the actor isn’t shooting for films, ad campaigns, endorsements, live performances and social events take up his time. When he isn’t shooting, he utilises his leisure time to make politically correct statements and salvage sticky situations. Now a daily schedule as hectic as this can exhaust the best in the business, but Amitabh has been up and about. At 66 though, Bachchan isn’t thrilled about continuing with his choc-a-block agenda for too long. At a press conference held for the upcoming Live Earth India concert, this was made evident. The Live Earth concert started off with a bang last year, with international artistes like Madonna setting the stage on fire. This time, those against global warming have pooled in a number of Bollywood celebrities to partner their Hollywood counterparts on stage. Bachchan, who was one of the first to be approached, readily agreed, but his style seemed to have been cramped by exhaustion. “As a family, we have committed ourselves to the concert in many ways. Ask her about it and the grin gets wider, “I have been inundated by phone calls and messages from people who I’ve not spoken to in years. It’s like they have suddenly woken up and are asking, ‘Ameesha, is that really you?’ I’ve been told I’m looking hot, smokin’ hot, pipin’ hot, smoulderin’ hot! It makes me sound like I’m something being cooked over fire and I’m going to melt and evaporate!” And what’s her reaction to all these reactions? “I’m dissolving in them!” she laughs.The song was shot in Alibaug over 15 days, Ameesha says. “I had to take lessons in scuba diving as huge chunks of the song were shot under water. With Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and two other films — Chatur Singh Two Star with Sanjay Dutt and Do Lucky with Govinda, Ameesha seems to be on a roll. She isn’t in the mood to analyse what went wrong after Humraaz. “You win some, you lose some. End of the day, you’re like a mountaineer, you’ve to climb valleys, reach the peaks, come down and start again,” she philosophises. One thing Ameesha would like to do, is to work with her first co-star Hrithik Roshan again.

“Everywhere I go, people tell me we really complemented each other. I hope some script comes along that uses both of us well,” she says. After the lull in her career, she’s looking forward to 2008. One more reason for this is the man in her life — businessman Kanav Puri — with whom she shares a long-distance relationship. “All I can say is that personally and professionally, I’m in a complete state of bliss. I want to envelope life, hug it with as much dedication as I’ve given to my work,”she says and there’s that grin again!

Katrina Kaif won’t be exactly thrilled with this piece of news.. but Salman Khan and southern actress Asin are getting very buddy buddy in Paris.

The two are currently shooting there for Vipul Amritlal Shah’s London Dreams. Is Kat getting nightmares already? Anyway, we're told Sally surprised Asin with a gift on Onam a couple of days ago, and it certainly wasn’t the kind one would give a friend.

Seems Sallu spent quite a few hours looking for a perfect gift for Asin since he wanted it to be very special. Hmm. Now, Asin is eagerly waiting for Idd, so that she can give Sallu an equally khaas return present.

Vikram Bhatt’s horror movie 1920 doesn’t leave you zombied. But it does scare you enough to have a few sweaty, sleepless hours when you hit the bed at night.

The movie derives its title from the year it’s set in, when huge mansions (in present-day Yorkshire) stood tall on the suburbs of Mumbai and horse-drawn carriages plied on dusty grounds carrying dandy men in suits and women in Victorian gowns and hats. Sadly, there aren’t any buxom ladies in tight corsets here.

Rajneesh Duggal plays Arjun, an architect, and Adah Sharma plays his catholic wife, Lisa. The couple, wedded despite parental disapproval, arrives at a haveli that the suave architect plans to convert into a hotel as his big project. The only trouble is – the haveli is haunted by a spirit that eventually possesses Lisa. Even as the girl transforms from a beautiful bride to a withered zombie that talks in multiple voices and levitates in bed, the guy doesn’t run away but stands beside her, his love unshaken, until he finds a way to exorcise her of the demonic spirit.

Plotwise, ‘1920’ doesn’t offer anything remarkably novel or nightmarish. It abounds with clichés that collage any typical horror film – a large, empty and dimly-lit mansion with huge portraits staring down ominously at its audience. Or its rich architecture that glistens through the shifting shadows. Or a lantern-carrying housekeeper with mysterious facial expressions.

Despite this, the film works to an extent because Vikram Bhatt holds it tight until the very climax. The director lays the ground in the first half and shoots up the scare-quotient in the second half considerably enough for you to feel a full bladder mid-way through your carbonated drink.

The film also works because its actors, Rajneesh Duggal and Adah Sharma, deliver credible performances in aptly-suited roles. Adah’s blanched complexion particularly makes her well-suited to play a possessed girl. Raj Zutsi as the scowling priest is too stilted.

The music is quite evocative except the Rakhi Sawant number which stands out like a sore thumb in this sufficiently spooky tale.

Just don’t go expecting too much and there are chances that you might get some paisa-vasool scares.
