The Minister, Kirk Session and Congregation of Glasgow Cathedral take great pleasure in announcing that Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh will attend a Jubilee Thanksgiving service on the 4th of July. Planning for the service has been underway for over a year, and Buckingham Palace yesterday officially announced details of her Majesty’s visit to Scotland as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Although there will be a great many official guests invited to the service, we have an allocation of seats for the Congregation. Members are warmly invited to apply for an invitation by contacting any of the Session Clerks before next Monday, the 7th of May. Please call Mr. Collie on 01505 323 691 or email glen.collie (at symbol) glasgowcathedral.org.uk or fill in an application following any of the services on the 6th of May.

Lent and particularly Christ’s Passion have inspired great composers throughout the centuries. These three concerts present some of the finest works ever written evoking the intensity of our human response to the dramatic events leading up to Christ’s crucifixion. From Allegri’s famous Miserere with its soaring high-C soprano solo to the emotion of Victoria’s Tenebrae Responsories, each of these concerts promises to be a deeply moving experience.

Tickets £10

Contemporary Classical Singer Martin Aelred, who is fast becoming one of Scotland’s most loved opera performers, will be taking part in a concert on behalf of Alzheimer Scotland at the beautiful Glasgow Cathedral on Saturday 21st April 2012.

Before embarking on a sell-out tour of Scotland with his holiness the Dalia lama, Martin Aelred will lend his unique voice to support those affected by dementia across Scotland. ‘The Opera Experience’ is a unique event where song, dance and storytelling are combined to create an evening of entertainment to thrill both those who love opera and those who soon will.
