Direct IP with the Magellan ProMark 3.

Its been a long time coming but I am finally ready to release my 105 page report on Direct IP with the Magellan ProMark3.

The project was inspired and supported by MiniCAD5 - Surveying Software http://www.mapsoft.com.au/ developer Mr.Ian Iredale, with generous support by Sagem Australiasia.

The project consists of the development and testing of a portable network GNSS solution " Direct IP with the ProMark3".

The research was also done in conjunction with the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.

Instead of using UHF radios to transmitt differential correction data from Base to Rover, I developed a portable system using a Laptop Computer, Wireless Internet and Mobile Phone.

The results were quite amazing. Instead of being restricted to a range of about 1.5km using UHF, communication was increased to 10km easily in a FIXED SOLUTION and even further in a FLOAT SOLUTION with impressive accuracy.

Even though I've tested the system using a Magellan ProMark3 (L1) - the concepts can apply to any GNSS.

I have a very interesting story and experience for a client that is a Nudist Resort in Oklahoma for 412 acre boundary survey where I used triangulation instead of GPS to survey remote areas within and outside of the boundary for the section survey. I did all the survey work by myself with no hired help. I had a small amount of help from member volunteers but they were clothed while out an about the property and section looking and setting points. I presented my survey progress at several meetings with over 20 or 30 members and officials who were naked. What an experience!!!!

Here is what we have for you just for getting involved.

Surveying in Antartica

Its been an absolute dream of mine to visit Antartica and do some surveying.
I'd be happy with just one day!

I'd really love to get a GPS and conduct a control survey, monitor movement of a glacier, or conduct some sort of survey.

Living in Australia, I guess i could say that " I'm a stones throw away" however, it isn't such an easy thing to get down there.

There are tours ofcourse but you can't just show up at the local employment office and request
work in Antartica.

So, how do you get there?

How does one get an opportunity to have work experience there?

Has anyone been to Antartica before?

We'd really like you to share your experience of Antartica, you work you carried out, share photos, videos or advice.

"Survey Marks of the World" is the title of Global Surveyors third book and we are looking for surveyors worldwide to take part.

It will be a simple ebook with pictures and information about survey marks from all over the world.

I would love to know if a GPS or GNSS can be calibrated.

We run a collimation test onboard our total station, but

with GPS what do you do?

If you buy a new GPS, do you test it over a baseline first before use?

Do you test a GPS yearly or monthly?

GeoDLL is available in a new version and can be downloaded from my website now. For those of you who do not know GeoDLL yet, I have made a short description here.

GeoDLL supports the development of geodetic software on various platforms by providing geodetic functions. GeoDLL contains precise functions of the themes 2D and 3D coordinate transformation, geodetic datum shift and reference system convertion, meridian strip changing, user defined coordinate and reference systems, distance calculation, Digital Elevation Model, NTv2 handling, Direct / Inverse Solutions and map function.

GeoDLL makes possible to perform professional grade coordinate transformations in own programs:

1.The current and many historical coordinate and reference systems of all countries of the European Union (EU) including the eastern extensions from 2004 and 2007 and the systems of the European non-EU countries.

3.The US and Canadian State Plane Coordinate Systems (SPCS) on NAD27 and NAD83 and other coordinate and reference systems of the North American continent.

User coordinate systems, local reference systems and earth ellipsoids can be defined, based on the coordinate system parameters, the semi axes of the earth and seven Helmert or three Molodenski datum parameters.

GeoDLL comes with extensive documentation and is supplied as a DLL file or as C++ or CA-Visual Objects source code. The functions of GeoDLL are suitable for multithreading. The DLL is written in the C++ language. That gives very fast performance, compact code, and high stability in use.

WINDOWS operating system allows building of function libraries intended for use by applications, the so-called Dynamic Link Libraries. The application uses functions stored in the DLL by making a DLL call. The language used for developing applications that call functions of the DLL is not important. It could be C, C++, C#, Delphi, MS-Access, Visual Basic, Java, .NET, Visual Objects or other. Therefore GeoDLL is delivered with examples and interface source code for many commonly used programming languages.
