Since 2008, NextAid has collaborated with the KVC in the Kawangware slum bordering Nairobi, Kenya. KVC is a locally created and managed organization started by a former street child to provide positive opportunities to get kids off the streets and support vulnerable children at risk of engaging in street life. The organization runs a micro-business making silkscreened gift bags out of recycled paper. NextAid has partnered with KVC to build a new “green” workshop and multipurpose facility to expand their operation and ultimately serve more youth.

Glow designs a new space to compliment the existing presence on the show floor.

A new space that was separated by two different exhibitors presented a unique challenge for the layout and design. The key to connecting the two was the location and orientation of the reception areas. A clear line of sight was kept to enable good communication between the two reception desks, so they could manage their processes as efficiently as possible.

The same design feature was applied to both the old and new spaces, to help link them and make them feel like a continuation of the same space. In the new area, the existing concept was developed further with signature elements and finishes that reflect the personality of NBCU’s new brands and titles.

The existing dark wood, white, and silver palette was used but flipped to allow for a new patterned wall covering and additional color in the fabrics. The focus for the aisle walls was on the artwork. Large backlit graphics showcased the latest titles in dramatic fashion.

The bar is located near the exterior doors and services meetings taking place in the rooms and on the terrace. It features turquoise tufted upholstery on the front and sides, which add a real punch to the area, with flock velvet wall covering complimenting the look. A series of Kartel light fixtures were used throughout, adding to the sense of style and fun.

Brand development and licensing company, Authentic Brands Group, reached out to Glow to develop their Licensing 2011 booth. Representing well-known properties like Marilyn Monroe and Tap Out, the main objective was to create both a unified look and a standout design for the new exhibitor.

Typical of a Licensing show, the show floor is an onslaught of visual stimulus, with bright colors and loud graphics competing for attention. To set the booth apart, our design emphasized the brand’s sophistication. With a black and white color palette and clean structural lines, the space is a stylish counterpoint. The look is completed with a dark wood floor, contemporary furniture, pendant lighting, and glass panels.

The layout focuses on hospitality, with a central lounge and bar area representing all of the brands. The two main brands for the show, Tap Out and Marilyn Monroe, were further represented with large graphics and dedicated meeting spaces adjacent to the lounge area.

As a further advantage to Authentic Brands Group, the design is adaptable for use at other shows. And will be used again with some modifications at the upcoming MAGIC show for their brand Tap Out.

Winning the bid for Behringer’s Prolight + Sound booth, Glow’s design emphasizes contrast – simple modular shapes but an angular arrangement, black and white against bold yellow.

The effect is at once streamlined and dynamic; a space that immediately engages the visitor, but doesn’t overwhelm with information. This approach was especially useful given the focus on product display. With over 150 products at the show, it was important to present an organized layout to attendees. Using the yellow stripes to visually delineate and highlight display areas, products were grouped into six custom modular counters. The open plan allowed for easy hands-on access, with sales staff interacting freely with visitors. Glow mapped the placement of each product pre-show, using the actual product dimensions to ensure adequate display space.

This attention to detail combined with a standout design, made for a highly successful show. From Behringer: “Months of planning and preparation paid off in the realization of the most efficient, trouble-free trade show experience in our company’s history” and “the open layout allowed the booth to be consistently packed full of people”. Working with the Behringer team, Glow delivered a high-quality and rewarding tradeshow experience.

Representing five brands within the space – Numark, Alesis, Alto, Akai, and Ion, the challenge for NAMM was supporting the diversity of products while keeping a unified look. As with any multiple-company exhibit, the division of space and attention to graphic branding was important, although the physical requirements of the products were also a key point to address. From mixers to drum kits to keyboards and speakers, the variety of shapes and sizes required careful thought to create a proper platform for each.

With that in mind, Glow’s solution was to create eye-catching displays, uniform in appearance but flexible to the different requirements. Designing counter tops in a modular style, displays could be scaled up or down to suit. Removable shelving added further surface space and could be adjusted to the desired height or angle.

Not only functional, the counters were a high-impact design element. To bring definition between the companies, the surfaces were done in different colors of plexiglass (selected to match the respective brands). Lit internally, the semi-translucent material had a vibrant, glowing effect – focusing attention for a dramatic backdrop to the products.

Truss and hanging graphics maximized branding while keeping an open floor plan below. Each company had a high-level logo with four long banners of featured products. The graphics visually grouped each area, while the repetition of shape gave an overall cohesion to the space.

Strong branding an open flow drew visitors towards and into the space, to interact with products in a hands-on, exciting environment.

Glow’s design harmoniously blends refined style with functionality to reflect the Preferred Hotel Group luxury aesthetic at ILTM 2010.

Representing the finest hotels and resorts, Preferred Hotel Group participates in major industry shows worldwide, connecting independent properties to the luxury travel community. These events are both key networking opportunities for the participating properties and a showcase of the Preferred Hotel Group brand.

From the outset, Glow worked towards a flexible solution for the multiple shows Preferred Hotel Group attends across Europe. The diversity of venues posed a challenge, that Glow met through the use of modular elements. With wall panels that can combine for different heights, and meeting units that work as single or double-sided, the pieces are scalable to accommodate a variety of layouts. The bar and reception as well as the cabinetry were built as smaller units to be combined or separated to suit their specific application. The versatility creates a great value for Preferred, ensuring a high level of quality and branding continuity across markets.

To express an atmosphere of luxury and professionalism, the selection of materials and detailing was paramount. Laminate finishes in cream and charcoal were chosen for the walls, with a molding detail on the cream panels for a finishing effect. Contract furniture with upholstery in tan fabric and leather compliment the color palette. For the meeting units, the frosted privacy end panels were done with reverse cut pineapples to subtly incorporate brand imagery.

High-level logo graphics and canopies create a feeling of unity under the Preferred Hotel Group brand. Contrasting the subdued color palette of the structure, colorful photo graphics draw the visitor’s eye, highlighting the diversity and opulence of the Preferred family of brands. LCDs at various points within the booth further exhibit the gorgeous properties within the Preferred Hotel Group network.

The overall effect is a polished and professional environment, perfect for meetings but with the sophisticated class one expects from the Preferred Hotel Group brand.

Lionsgate boldly transforms their MIPCOM space into an interactive meeting environment.

For MIPCOM 2010, Lionsgate asked Glow to rework the space as an open plan, giving an active, informal feeling to the booth. Emphasizing the beachfront location, the new layout removes the walling along the left side, opening up the sea front view for a lighter atmosphere. Custom screening stations replace private meeting rooms along the left, with visitors and staff sharing the space communally.

To keep design continuity, the left-side header mirrors the shape of the curved right-side walls. The low walling at the entrance also curves inward towards reception, creating a sense of separation but with an unobstructed view. For overflow and additional seating, the existing waiting area was adapted to fit across the aisle, with visitors looking through the space towards the sea view.

For the new screening stations, Glow designed custom oval tables fitted into scalloped recesses along the back wall. Backlit acrylic panels printed in Lionsgate blue form the back of the recess, making a dramatic backdrop for each station. The tables were designed with built-in monitor support, allowing the input source and cabling to be concealed. Headphones were attached under each table, easily accessible for users but hiding all of the wiring for a clean, high-tech presentation.

Selecting a bright, beach inspired color palette the finishes were done in blues, taupe, and cream, with dark brown as a warm counterpoint. The total effect was light and refreshing mood, perfectly in keeping with the vibrant and relaxed tone of the space.
