I've just added some new information over at the new site, Gluten Free Diet Guide.

A new page about Ecco Bella FlowerColor Cosmetics - still incomplete, check back for updates

A new page about gluten free cornbread

Ecco Bella is a company I'm excited about. I've seen their FlowerColor cosmetics and I have always wanted to try them. The next time I need a new mascara, I'll be going there AND I'll probably pick up at least one other item (just for fun!).

Also, you might not think gluten free cornbread is anything all that special. But I make it work for me, serving multiple purposes for our family's favorite recipes. It can be tough to replace bread or flour-based ingredients for everyday cooking. My multi-tasking approach to cornbread has solved a lot of these problems for me.

Follow the links above and let me know what you think!

Thank you for visiting, everyone.
I've made some progress with Bare Minerals Products Are Gluten Free page today. I've been using the foundation for at least a month now and I really like it, along with the concealer brush and a Kabuki brush. I'm looking forward to trying the veil some day.

Anyway, please check it out and see what you think. I have had some other updates to make, will do that as soon as I can.

I want to thank everyone for visiting my new website, link is up on the left side of this blog. Recently I decided that I was thinking too small. I know I can deliver the important gluten free cosmetic information you need. But I also have a lot I want to share about the gluten free diet, finding special foods that I had trouble getting, my preferred baking and cooking methods, good equipment to have, some solid recipes, and more.

I'd like you to have a one-stop place to get great info on your favorite cosmetics and a reliable food product, if you should wish. Believe me, I've been around the block several times with finding solid dependable gluten free products. Plus I've had to relearn some of my standard cooking methods to replicate our family's favorite foods. If you're looking for GF cosmetics, you may have questions about your food as well (like I always do).

Here's the link to my new all-in-one site Gluten Free Diet Guide - and that's a picture of some homemade gluten free bread on the header. Good stuff and easy to make - we always have some on-hand. So I'll be summarizing and updating the best info I have from both my semi-new cosmetics site and this blog over to that site. Sorry this has been so disjointed, but I hope this transition will serve everyone better. This blog will NOT be going away, but the other newish cosmetics site will.

Again, thanks for being such loyal readers and please keep track of the changes here!

Bare Minerals Eye Shadow - Drama

Hello everyone!

If you are a regular reader, you may notice a new product on the left column - Bare Minerals Eye Shadow, Drama. A while ago, I confirmed that all Bare Minerals (from the company Bare Escentuals) products are gluten free. That includes the foundation, which I am trying now (love it!), eye shadow, and other products.

There are mascaras and lip products that ARE NOT safe, so don't just go up there and pick out whatever you want. I'm sticking to the eye shadow and foundation for now, branching out later. Here's the page on their website that shows their gluten free makeup choices.

I'm currently into the "Drama" eyeshadow. It's a wonderful shiny onyx color with a hint of warmth. I can brush this on my lower lid over a light overall base color and be totally done with my eye shadow for the day. It creates enough contrast to be interesting, but not so much that I look like I'm glammed up for a night on the town. Now, I can do that if I apply more. I've done it a few times when I've gone out and the look is fabulous. But it doesn't take much to make an impact. Love, love, love it!

When I get the chance to try a few more Bare Minerals products, I'll let you know.

Thanks!

Did you know that Bare Escentuals, home of Bare Minerals foundation, has a ton of gluten free cosmetics? Yes - you can swirl, tap, and buff with their great products now. Check out the details on my new Bare Escentuals webpage. .

For those of you concerned about cross contamination, all gluten free products are made without any glutinous ingredients. However, they cannot guarantee that they have been processed in a gluten free environment.

Please check out my new page and let me know what you think, both of my site and of your experiences with this company for GF makeup.

Thanks!

This is a page about one of my favorite gluten free cosmetic companies, Afterglow Cosmetics. I'm telling you, they keep adding more products all the time and they are worth checking out.

I altered this page on eye cosmetics to become a feature page for Afterglow Cosmetics Eyeshadow . That will let me provide more details about the products instead of crunching them together on one page.

More info to come on both of these pages - still in "idea stage", but they should be pretty helpful for anyone looking a little deeper into the company.

Thanks!
This page here says that Tarte proudly offers gluten free cosmetic and beauty products. That is different that my earlier posts that said each gluten free product would be labeled on their site. How awesome!

However, they offer another caveat on another part of their website. They do say that they cannot guarantee any allergen product was produced in an allergen free environment. Still, if you are OK with a slight chance of cross contamination, this looks like an excellent source of cosmetics.

For example - since I am not the celiac in my house, I consider this to be OK for me. I always do my best to wash my hands after putting on makeup. I handle all of my husband's food, so I clearly can't have anything with gluten ingredients. However, a very small chance of cross contamination with product that has all GF ingredients may be almost too small to show up. If a tiny bit of my makeup residue should come in contact with his food, the likelihood of any gluten being around is pretty remote. We follow this same standard for the food in our house.

If I was the celiac, Tarte Cosmetics still a great choice. It would make a lot of difference how sensitive I was to cross contamination issues. It's a very personal situation for everyone, so there is no clear right or wrong when it comes to cross contamination risk. What's most important is to simply know if it exists so you can make the best decision for you.

More than anything, I am increasingly impressed with the number of cosmetic companies now putting statements on their websites or having clear responses to this type of question. Kudos to all of you who keep asking!

So absolutely check them out - tartecosmetics.com. The world of gluten free cosmetics have scored a serious win with this company. By the way, loving the amount of mascara products. And the fall collection? Gorgeous!! Going to look into those two things myself!

Take care,
Hey, thanks everyone for continuing to check out my new website gluten-free-cosmetic-counter.org. I promise, I'll be building more pages as soon as I can. There is so many companies I want to research, so many other resources I want to look into.

You have come to rely on this blog for solid reliable gluten free cosmetic information. That won't change with the website. I intend to make it your most reliable source for accessing gluten free information and products on the internet.

You may not always know how cosmetic companies handle cross contamination issues. And not all gluten free makeup websites will report that. Gluten cross contamination may or may not influence your purchasing decision, but I will *always* let you know about any potential risk. It's that important. I'll give you the best information I can get so you can make an informed choice.

Your input will be so valuable - I can't thank you all enough for continuing to update me on changes in gluten free info you come across. Things can change so fast and without notice. That's why no matter who you get your info from - even Gluten Free Cosmetic Counter or this blog - you are encouraged to call the company directly if you have any questions or doubts.

Hope you are having a great day and enjoy watching the new website grow :)
I have some progress on the new website to share with you. I have a front page and I am starting to create specific pages on eye makeup and different cosmetic companies. So far, I have started to focus on Afterglow Cosmetics. I use their products myself, so it seemed a good place to start. Yes, it's pretty new, but it's so bright and shiny!

I hope to put as much reliable info as I can on my new website so you can find what you need with ease. This may take a while, but every time I make notable progress I'll let you know. Thanks so much for continuing to find my blog a place you can count on for current info on gluten free cosmetics.

Here's the front page: Gluten Free Cosmetic Counter Find the small tab on the top left column called "Eye Makeup" and click it. Check out that page and find your way to the bottom to the list of companies. You'll see that Afterglow is highlighted like this with a hyperlink to it's own page. (Notice I just included the link in the last sentence if you want to just jump right there.)

Please take the quick stroll around the website and let me know what you think so far. Also, I'm open to your ideas about what would be useful to you. Your input as an invaluable part of my website, just like it is here on the blog. I simply can't be in all places at all times, and your updates are absolutely essential for so many people. I'll find a way to make it easy for you to contribute there, too. If you have ideas or thoughts on that, go ahead and let me know. This may be my website and blog, but it is our community!

Many thanks to you, readers.

Burt's Bees New Gluten Free Procedure

You can’t miss the free report I’ve created for you when you sign up for the Gluten Free Diet Guide email newsletter.
**Attention! This blog is no longer updated on Burt's Bees gluten free products. Please see the Burt's Bees Gluten Free page on the Gluten Free Diet Guide website for the most current information. **

Hello everyone. Thanks to Clover, an astute reader of this blog, I've learned that Burt's Bees doesn't publish a gluten free list anymore. In fact, they can't verify across the board that products with no glutenous ingredients are actually gluten free. This is about cross contamination risk, something you always need to be cautious of.

The good news is that you can verify specific products with a customer service representative at 1-888-308-0130. The lady I spoke with today was very friendly and helpful with a few of my frequently used products. Unfortunately, the Radiance Facial Cleanser is going to have to be on my "no" list now. Something in there has a questionable source.

She did offer a few replacement options for me - Radiance Exfoliating Body Wash (not too harsh for facial use) and the Citrus Facial Scrub. The other two products I asked about were OK. She wasn't able to tell me the specific ingredient with questionable cross contamination risk with my facial cleanser. But it still sounds like there definitely ARE products that are OK to use.

As with anything in Gluten Free World - you always need to call or check to verify the GF status of products from time to time. You never know when something is going to be in question. Thankfully, Burt's Bees is readily available in Walmart and Target. I'm hopeful that my local stores stock at least one of my replacement options so I don't have to wait.

So you can breathe a sigh of relief - Burt's Bees does not have to be off your "safe" list altogether. However, you do need to verify what you use so you really know what is safe. Mostly, you'll just need to be more deliberate about your checking - can't rely on a quick internet check anymore.

Thanks to my observant readers for all your suggestions and comments!

Hi - my humble blog has a new friend. My latest creation is Adventures In Gluten Free Cooking. I mean, this thing is brand spankin' new. Hardly opened its eyes yet and explored the world of Google and search rankings.

I plan to share the ups and downs of what I do in my kitchen, trying to make the best gluten free food possible for my family. They create and sell organic shampoos, conditioners, elixirs, and styling products. Their products are gluten free and all natural. And let me tell you, each and every one of these things smells unbelievable. Like a spa!!

A nice woman from this company contacted me and asked if I would like to try some samples and I happily agreed. Don't you love it when you know something fun is coming in the mail for you?? Anyway, I got my package about a week ago and today I will start filling you in on my experience. I still have several samples left, so this may go on for a while.

My first experience last week involved the Heavenly Chai shampoo and the Euro Organic Oil. You should know first that I'm usually a try-it-first-read-directions-later type of girl. Most of the time that turns out OK. Sometimes not.

I did the shampoo, which as I said before, smelled completely awesome. It didn't lather like more mainstream shampoos, but I decided that was just their formula. I know that lather doesn't necessarily equal better cleanliness. So I just made sure I had enough to cover all my hair and rinsed it out.

Then I tried the Euro Organic Oil. I figured this was probably like my conditioner, so I could just put it on right after my shampoo then rinse. So I did that, again very pleased with the aroma. I was pretty confident about all of this until I started blow drying my hair. Which wouldn't dry - it just stayed oily. Uh oh.

Now I need to be at my daughter's elementary school to volunteer for about an hour and I look like I'm one of the guys from the movie Grease. Well, with no time to really deal with it, I decided I was just going to keep my chin up and "rock" my greasy hair look. Yep, those 2nd graders and the teachers were just gonna know I meant to do that.

So I went off to the school, did my thing, and tried to forget about my hair for a while. On my way home, I began to wonder if that big packet of stapled paper that came in my box would give me some insight on how I'm supposed to really use this stuff. Hmm.....instructions....

Lo and behold, I found a lengthy description about how to shampoo with their products - shampoo TWICE for best results, and put shampoo on DRY hair after using the oil so the treatment is more effective and rinses out well. Huh.....rinses out well. Makes sense since oil and water don't mix.

So I quickly put more shampoo on my dry/oily hair the best I could and stuck my head under the tub faucet for a good rinse. I moved right on the my hair dryer and could tell right away that my hair was actually getting dry this time. And something else - unimaginably smooth and silky. Whoa, hadn't seen that coming. I just thought it would be a little more moisturized, but not like this. Felt even better than coming from the hair salon! Totally totally totally worth it. If I'd known the fix would only take 10 minutes, I might have tried it before leaving for the school.

Since the weekend was coming and I had a busy schedule, I wasn't able to shampoo my hair on my usual every-other-day regimen. On the third day, my hair was still very manageable and smooth - again, hadn't expected that bonus. My hair isn't long enough yet for a ponytail, so I really do need it to work or have it shampooed after a certain point. Love having it still be good even when the schedule has a hiccup!

I'll fill you in more about the Morrocco Method products and my experiences. Now I'm looking at that long packet of info BEFORE I start putting it on my hair. How about that??

Tarte Cosmetics Has Gluten Free Choices? Updated Feb 2012 - Tarte cannot claim to be gluten free because of the risk of cross contamination. For more current information on gluten free cosmetics, click here.

Hello, everyone. I got a helpful email today by a nice gal named Robin. She is in the market for gluten free products and discovered that www.tartecosmetics.com has several gluten free products. I have not personally had a chance to ask the company any questions, but this sounds like a great place to look around.
Robin also reported “40% off of everything on their site now (plus free shipping if you spend $40. Coupon code is "luckyweek3” Great job sniffing out the sale, Robin :) I don’t know now long this promotion is going on, but it sounds like this reasonably priced cosmetic line will be even more reasonable for right now.
Here are their comments from the FAQ section about allergens:
At the bottom of every tarte product page in the tarte shop there is an ingredient listing where you can find the ingredients to the products you’re interested in. You can also find a list of gluten free products on the skinvigorating ingredients page. All gluten free products are marked on each product page in the tarte shop. Tarte cannot guarantee that any ingredients or products were produced in an allergen free environment.
I looked at a few products and they do put a clear easy-to-read list of ingredients and various benefits from each product. Just be sure that you remember Tarte doesn’t guarantee a gluten free environment. However, for those of you comfortable with cosmetics that are gluten-free by ingredient, you will have several beautiful choices.
If any of you have already purchased something from Tarte Cosmetics, let me know what you think. Thanks again to Robin for sending me her great find. :)

Gluten Free Shampoo

You can’t miss this - I've created a free report for you when you sign up for the Gluten Free Diet Guide email newsletter.

I just got a great question on Twitter about gluten free shampoo. Since it seemed awkward to shove a lot of info into just 140 characters, I thought I'd write up a quick post to consolidate what I know so far.

Monave has some gluten free shampoo and hair care products
Desert Organics Don't know about the rest of the website, but the "organics" area is all gluten free
Suave Unilever products are well-labeled for any gluten sources, and Suave should be OK.
Gluten Free Savonnerie Obviously, the name says it all!

As always, any product can have a changed formulation without any notice. Before purchasing, you should ALWAYS read labels and contact the company to be doubly sure. Even what I'm writing here could be slightly different by the time you buy something. This is just a guide to get you in the right direction. If you should find that a recommendation I've made has turned up something with gluten in it, please accept my apology and let me know so I can correct the info I have. Use this gluten ingredient list as a guide for checking on glutenous ingredient. It looks like these are pretty good options for gluten free shampoos and other hair products. Finally!

Good luck and happy hair washing!

What Gluten Free Cosmetics Can You Buy At Target?

**Attention! This blog is no longer updated on Burt's Bees gluten free products. Please see the Burt's Bees Gluten Free page on the Gluten Free Diet Guide website for the most current information. **
Hello! As part of my quest to find gluten free cosmetics and beauty products, I'm introducing a topic that I'll revisit from time to time. Every time I walk through my local Target (I'm afraid that's a lot!), I wonder what the chances are that some of these cosmetic and personal care products are gluten free?

I just wrote a letter to Neutrogena to figure out what the story is there. I've read some forum posts saying they just have a "wheat free" list, not a true GF list. Although what I read also seems to give the impression that if there is no wheat in it, there won't be gluten in it. What?? Does Neutrogena actually understand that there could still be gluten if there's no wheat? I did make a point to clarify that I wanted to know about a "gluten free" list, since any barley, rye, or oat-derived ingredient could still have gluten. We'll see what they provide. However, just know there is already a big question mark on Neutrogena anyway. I'm not expecting much different.

In the last year or two, Burt's Bees has been sold in Target stores. This is delightful for me since I can get a few of my basics on my regular errand route. I do know that some gluten free folks have expressed frustration because they haven't gotten a straight answer regarding their source of Vitamin E. So some may consider that Burts Bees gluten free cosmetic list doesn't really provide anything for them. I understand and include that disclaimer here for anyone with that level of concern. I also wish they had a more updated list - most recent one is from January of 2008. My secret wish is that they are working out their Vitamin E issue and will include that in any updated list. Don't know how likely that is, but I can hope!

At any rate, I do get Burts Bees Lip Shimmer quite frequently. I also use the Burts Bees Day Radiance cream every day. Some of their lotion products are scented too strongly for my preference, but that's just me I think. Some people love that, which is great. And it helps that it can be easy to pick up your beauty staples at the same store as your new laundry basket, tortilla chips, and shampoo.

Speaking of shampoo, Suave has been a good brand for gluten free shampoo. I will do more checking for any recent updates, but the Unilever company has been known for fully disclosing all sources of gluten. I've read other bloggers and forum posters using Suave as well. Again, I'll write another letter soon to confirm this, but it's what I use on my hair every day.

So there are a few gluten free cosmetic and shampoo choices you could pick up from Target on an everyday basis. Nice to know some things are just around the corner. :)

Gluten Free Cosmetic Companies Everywhere

Hello folks. I'm telling you, I'm finding more and more gluten free cosmetic companies around the web, sometimes just by accident. This morning I was going along on Twitter, and somehow I ended up on an allergy blog that mentioned something about gluten free sunscreen. Lo and behold, there were about six companies listed that have gluten free cosmetic and gluten free personal care products. Had heard of two companies, but the others were new to me.

I checked out the new ones and found that they professed to be completely gluten free. Woot! That sure makes it easy when they say that right off the bat. The problem is that these companies don't often do a lot of advertising as a "gluten free cosmetics company" per se. Trust me, I've trolled the Google results for so many keywords, you'd think I'd have found these guys by now. But no, they remain nearly anonymous in the wilderness of the internet. If you don't already know about them, you probably won't find them (even if you are looking).

So that's my purpose, to bring gluten free cosmetics and gluten free skin care products out to the forefront to you. I'm just giddy finding all of these lush pictures of organic products like jojoba oil, tea tree oil, silky mineral cosmetics, and such. It's a feast for the eyes, and I think you'd agree.

Here's a list of the newest companies I've found. I hope to do a bit more in depth post on each after I have a chance to research them. If you have been a customer of any of these companies, please add your feedback. A report from the field is always valuable. On these links, I'm sending you right to the ingredients page. You can click along on the website to see different products.

California Baby
Affusion Skin Care
Desert Organics

The Desert Organics link is actually for a product line on Desert Essence. It says that product line is gluten free, but it might pay to ask about other products. It doesn't look like they use a lot of complicated ingredients. Many of them are pure oils. I'll look into it more, but if you've used these products please add your comments.

Well, those are my gluten free cosmetic finds for this morning. I'm really quite excited - the new website will have so much good information - I can hardly stand it! It really is a great time to be looking for gluten free cosmetics - companies are making them, they are available, and I'll help you find them!

Smashbox gluten free cosmetics

Some of you may know about Smashbox gluten free cosmetic choices. Now everyone can know! I just got this letter today, confirming what I read earlier this year about having a great selection of gluten free cosmetics. Here is there exact letter:

Dear Erika,

Thank you for contacting us. Gluten can be found in products that contain wheat/rye/barley derivatives.
*******************************

Good day to you! I just received a response to a letter I wrote yesterday. I had written a post a few years ago about Arbonne's gluten free list. It seemed they were a little more gray in their answer than I had preferred back then.

Today's letter looks more clear, and they did answer my specific question about the equipment they manufacture their products on. I was pleased to see something beyond just a form letter (though it looked like it at first). I have to say I'm more encouraged to say that Arbonne would be a good gluten free cosmetic choice. As always, it is up to you whether you choose to purchase cosmetics from a company that does not have a completely gluten free cosmetic facility.

Here is the reprint directly to you.
It is very possible that products are manufactured on the same equipment that other products that contain milk and wheat are; however, our manufacturers follow very strict standard operating procedures in regarding to the cleansing and sanitation of the equipment in between batches of product. We are not aware of any occurrences where someone had sensitivity as a result of the contamination of manufacturing equipment.
