<p>I believe we can change the way we think and as a result of that we can change the way we eat.  We can learn to eat better.</p>
<p>This can be seen as a chicken and egg situation.  You know, which comes first, the chicken or the egg.</p>
<p>I look at it this way.  Whether or not it's the chicken or the egg, I want to get started now.  I know I can lose weight initially.  The problem comes when I start to run out of steam and lose the "high" that an initial weight loss can bring.</p>
<p><span id="more-1181"></span></p>
<p>Believe it or not, this technique actually works to your advantage in that regard.  You can change your behavior now (more on that in a minute) and you can start to work on changing the way you think.  It takes practice and time to make the changes in your thinking, but you can get started on the behavior right away.</p>
<p>The goal is to eventually switch over to the changed thinking so that you are not on a diet (you do know that diets don't work, right?) but you are actively involved in developing healthy eating habits.</p>
<p>In other words, you are doing something good for yourself.</p>
<p>Ok.  On to the changing the behavior part.  Pick something related to eating that you enjoy, that is good for you and that will most likely result in a positive weight loss outcome.</p>
<p>Be sure to frame this in a positive way.  In other words, it's not about what you won't do (eat dessert, eat second helpings, drink soda, etc.) it's about what you will do.  I will have fruit for dessert, I will drink water during the day, I will fill my plate once with at least 50-60% vegetables at each meal.</p>
<p>Be sure you choose a positive action and be sure you only eat foods that you truly enjoy.  That's important.</p>
<p>Ok.  Here's where the changing your thinking part comes in.  Let's say you choose the vegetables option, that is, eating mostly vegetables at each meal.</p>
<p>You are likely to have thoughts about this when you shop for the veggies, when you prep the veggies, when you cook the veggies and when you eat the veggies.</p>
<p>Each time your mind says anything contrary to your goal of establishing better eating habits you mentally picture a stop sign, a great big red one, and you say the word STOP! To yourself.  Say it strongly and with conviction.  Then you replace the negative thought with a positive one.</p>
<p>For my positive thought, I like to tell myself, "This is something good I am doing for myself."  </p>
<p>To review, each time a negative though about food, eating, or your body appears in your mind, you quickly SEE the STOP SIGN, SAY STOP! To yourself and REPLACE with a positive statement.</p>
<p>So the routine is SEE, STOP, REPLACE.</p>
<p>Are you thinking that this is really corny?  Well, corny or not, it definitely works.</p>
<p>Pretty soon, because of the repetition, you are believing that you are doing good things for yourself and soon after that you WANT to do more good things for yourself.</p>
<p>The result is that instead of "blowing it" the next time you dine out with friends, you can order a better choice from the menu and marvel at how wonderful it feels to treat your body well.</p>

When we live in the healthiest possible way, there should be no reason for us not to be totally happy, too.</p>
<p>There are times when we get a little bit cloudy in terms of our outlook in life. This is particularly true on an empty and not properly nourished stomach. Eating, not just any food, but good ones, can actually fuel you to last the whole day full of activities and pressures. Being fed well will not make you feel in any way groggy, or even dead-tired. And when we are hungry and poorly nourished our line of thinking and point of view will also be affected in an adverse way.</p>

<p>So, your question will probably be, what are the things that one must do in order to live a healthy lifestyle? This good question requires a good answer. The primary thing we should do is that we have to know and we have to be informed about what is the exact meaning of eating healthy.</p>
<p>To eat healthy does not in any way mean dieting and becoming very thin. It does not mean becoming a religious vegetarian, nor does it mean to be vitamin supplements dependent, or eating only one or two of the basic food group. Although, you must not also think that doing these things will mean that you are not healthy, but rather it simply means and shows that you are depriving yourself of the chance to know what healthy eating actually means.</p>
<p>Enjoying the food you eat can be one sign of good eating. In your attempt to eat healthy, it does not necessary mean that you will be choosing those foods that you regard as "bad tasting". It may mean, on the other hand, giving your taste buds the chance to finally meet and get used to eating organic, fresh, safer, and cleaner foods that you can have and you can give your family.</p>
<p>Another thing is that you certainly do not have to stop and deprive yourself of the chance to enjoy some of the foods that you really love. Instead, you can start by making small steps into going over the border of those foods you usually eat over the good and the right and the healthy ones. Having a positive mind and a positive outlook on this will also make you have a positive view of how you should eat right. Anyway, if there is someone who should love yourself first, that someone would have to be you. So start loving yourself. Through this, you will be able to finally realize what should be done.</p>
<p>Remember that having a healthy eating will also gibe healthy organs. Take note that your body is a living organism in any way you look at it. Therefore, it needs and requires all the nutrition it can get in order to work properly, and most especially to stay alive. Healthy foods are precisely needed by all our organs—our heart, liver, kidneys, and all the other bodily organs. They definitely need foods that are healthy in order to function at their optimum levels.</p>
<p>Whenever you get sick, caught a disease, or run down, this is primarily because your body is not getting the vital nutrition that it needs to keep it running smoothly. And even though each organ has its own function, they have to work together for a total mind and health fitness.</p>
<p>And finally, healthy eating will definitely and 100% promote positive benefits and positive changes. It is not enough that you lose weight, but the most important thing is that you managed to change the way you are eating. And if this leads to weight loss, then it will be your bonus. Changing the old pattern of the way you eat will really make the difference in your outlook and lifestyle.  Just remember this in your journey, do not get overwhelmed by all the things you are reading about eating and losing weight. And this, in turn, will make your life a happy one.</p>

<p>I daresay by this point you will have been scouring through cookery books and recipe sites to see if anything tickles your fancy.  You will have found recipes for all kinds of vegetable dishes some of which will contain things like beans, cheese and eggs.  You may have also found references to things you have never heard of.  Let's look at some of these:</p>

<p><strong>Tofu</strong></p>
<p>Tofu is a soy product uses in many vegetarian recipes.  In its natural condition it is pretty bland but this is where its strengths lay because it is very versatile.  It is usually found in three different forms:</p>
<p><strong>Silken Tofu – </strong>is thick and creamy in texture and is great for puddings.  It usually comes in packages that don't need to be kept in the fridge so is very handy to keep in as a "staple".</p>
<p><strong>Soft Tofu – </strong>crumbly and soft this Tofu is a bit like cottage cheese.</p>
<p><strong>Firm Tofu – </strong>as its name suggests this is the firmest of the Tofu trilogy.  It can be slice and diced like meat for stir fries and the barbecue.</p>
<p><strong>Seitan</strong></p>
<p>Seitan is made from the wheat gluten left over when starch is rinsed out of bread dough.  It has a chewy, meat like texture can be used as a substitute for meat in many recipes.  It is often found in canned vegetarian products at your local supermarket such as "vegetarian chicken casserole".</p>
<p><strong>Tempeh</strong></p>
<p>Tempeh is cakes of fermented soybeans.  It's stronger in taste and firmer in texture than tofu which makes it great for sandwiches.  Because of its meaty texture and slightly spicy taste, a lot of vegetarians have this as an alternative to breakfast sausage.  However, unlike the sausage, Tempeh is low in fat, high in fibre and packed with vitamin B12.</p>
<p><strong>TVP</strong></p>
<p>TVP or textured vegetable protein is made from soy flour and is often found in things like veggie burgers and veggie mince.  TVP is incredibly like meat, especially mince (ground meat for our US friends) that it makes great chilli and wonderful spaghetti bolognaise.</p>
<p><strong>Nutritional Yeast</strong></p>
<p>You will find this in most health food shops usually in flake form.  It's a favourite with vegans because it is a rich source of vitamin B12.  It has a pleasant cheesy flavour that compliments winter vegetables very well.</p>
