HELLO EVERYONE! My name is Raymond Robbins and I am the newest intern here at The DC Center. This year, Washington DC has the opportunity to host the Gay Men's Health Summit July 20th-21st, which will be my primary focus here at The Center. I am a recent transplant from Oakland, CA and a student at The University of the District of Columbia majoring in criminal justice. Increasing my health and wellness is something I have become very passionate about so getting the opportunity to work on an event that promotes that on a large scale is truly incredible.
When I'm not at The Center or in class, I really enjoy staying active. I'm currently training for a marathon this summer. I also study bikram yoga and flying trapeze. With all my activities is fair to say I have a big appetite, so most evenings you'll find me in the kitchen trying out new and tasty recipes. I've found that it's a lot easier to monitor what goes into your system when you prepare it yourself, plus, it relaxes me.

San Diego based Youth Pride Services, in partnership with several local and national organizations, have launched the first phase of a youth-led initiative to establish a National Strategy for Black Gay Youth in America.
Youth leaders in several states kicked off the first phase of this initiative on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The goal of this first phase is to mobilize 2,500 black gay youth across the country to take part in a national survey. The survey is designed to paint a national picture of what it is like to grow up black and gay in the United States. It will be used as a tool for partnering orgnaizations via a publication that will break down state-by-state data received from the strategy.

National youth leaders working on this project come from black gay youth programs around the country. They include:

Last summer staff from the National Center for Health Statistics conducted surveys here at the DC Center for the LGBT Community.
The purpose was to test survey questions on sexual identity that may be used on a national health survey.
The National Center for Health Statistics has completed their report on this research. The report is entitled Design, Development, and Testing of the NHIS Sexual Identity Question.

The next meeting of the Gay Men's Health Summit Local Planning Committee will take place Wednesday December 14th, at 7:00 PM. Going forward we plan to meet the second Wednesday of every month. The meeting will take place at the DC Center for the LGBT Community, 1318 U St NW.
The Gay Men's Health Summit will take place July 20th and 21st at the George Washington University in Washington, DC.
Since 1999, Gay Men's Health Summits have brought forth powerful new ideas that have helped to create a new generation of leaders and organizations committed to the broad health of gay, bisexual and transgender men. We embrace and welcome all individuals who support the health and well-being of gay, bisexual and transgender men.
Our intent is to honor the spirit and tradition of the previous six summits that have come before. We aim to create a strong, diverse, and increasingly visible grassroots movement among gay, bi and trans men, focused on strengthening our communities and tackling a range of health concerns that include, but are not limited to, HIV and AIDS.
Join us in planning the 2012 Summit. If you do not live in the area, fear not, we will soon be setting up meetings that you can participate in by conference call.

Development Intern - Expand our individual donors and monthly donor campaign, help plan our fundraising events, build support from the local businesses, and assist with our grant proposal and grant reporting. more detail
Website Development Intern - Work on our PHP/MySQL website and take it to the next level, maintain our blog and train other volunteers on how to use this blog. more detail
Graphic Design Intern - Create new materials and refine existing materials for both print and electronic mediums. more detail
National Gay Men's Health Summit Intern - Work with the Executive Director of the DC Center and an organizing committee to plan for the National Gay Men's Health Summit, helping plan the meetings, take minutes, and develop partnerships with local non-profit organizations and businesses. more detail
Tobacco Policy Change Intern - Assist in implementing our tobacco "Communities Putting Prevention to Work" Grant, engage local LGBT and HIV/AIDS communities about tobacco use and prevention, and develop a coalition with other organizations to make DC a healthier environment for everyone. more detail
Blogging Intern - Monitor and maintain the DC Center's blog, find information and events to write posts in keeping with the tone of the blog, create graphics, work to expand the Center's blog outreach, and other tasks as needed.

Hi all! We will also discuss the probable collusion of the 2012 GMHS with the MSMGF, or the Men who have Sex with Men Global Forum, just before the start of the International AIDS Conference on 22 July. This merger should have the effect of allowing both the GMHS and the MSMGF to have separate programming on the Friday (20 July) and the Saturday (21 July) directly before the conference saving space and money.
