In collaboration with the Government of Goa the Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), today launched the 108 free emergency response services in the state.

Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat inaugurated the services in the presence of Speaker Pratapsingh Rane, Health Minister, Vishwajeet Rane, Education Minister, Antanasio Monserattte, MLAs Victoria Fernandes, Pandurang Madkaikar, Dean of Goa Medical College, V N Jindaal, President of Goa State Womens Commission Pramod Salgaoncar and CEO, EMRI Venkat Changavalli.

EMRI signed a MoU with the Goa government on June 14, 2008.

We are the fourth state in the country to have this initiative. We are proud for the success, Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said.

Goa is the first state where the 108 Emergency Response Services has been launched and we are happy to launch the service in Goa, CEO, EMRI, Venkat Changavalli said.

The 108 Emergency Response Services is a Free Emergency Services for any emergency be it medical, police and fire. 108 is a toll free number and is accessible from landlines, mobile and local telephone booth without any prefix or suffix.

“Anyone anytime can call 108 for any emergency and help will reach them in minutes. The ambulances are well equipped with equipments ranging from defibrillators and ventilators, to extrication tools, to handle almost any emergency situation, Changavalli said.

Currently the 108 Emergency Response Services Centre has set up its temporary facility at Goa Medical College, over a 7000 sq ft. Health Minister Rane said “the deficiency of health care in the state will be decreased by the initiative of life saving Emergency Response Services.”

The ambulances are strategically located in and around the state for emergency handling and the service is available round-the-clock.

EMRI has partnered with hospitals and nursing homes to provide free hospitalization. EMRI will recruit and train required human resources, including pilots (drivers) and medically trained persons who will provide pre-hospital care to the victim, the CEO said.

Utt Goenkara spokesman Adv. Aires Rodrigues has stated that if  Monserartte does not resign or Chief Minister Digambar Kamat does not sack him, Utt Goenkara would take all steps possible to ensure that action is taken against Mr. Monseratte.

Stating that Mr. Monseratte would solely be responsible for all the consequences, Adv. Rodrigues further stated that by filing a false affidavit on his own educational qualifications, Mr. Monseratte had lost all moral authority to continue as a Minister, more so as the Education Minister of Goa.

Ridiculing  Monserarte’s statement that he would prove his educational qualifications at the appropriate time, Adv. Rodrigues has stated that the appropriate time is now and that it would end on September 7th.

Adv. Rodrigues has challenged the Education Minister to prove that he had passed S.S.C from St Theresa’s High School, Bandra as claimed by him in his sworn affidavit on 12th May 2007.

Making it very clear that Utt Goenkara has nothing personal against Mr. Monseratte, Adv. Rodrigues has stated that it was time to start the cleansing of the degenerated and rotting public life.

Agreeing with Monseratte that you need no educational qualifications to be a Minister, Adv. Rodrigues has stated that the issue was that Mr. Monseratte had lied on Affidavit that he was S.S C when he knew very well that he had not passed the 8th std.

Adv. Rodrigues has stated that it was unacceptable to have a person who has fudged his own educational qualifications to be entrusted  with the task of formulating and shaping Goa’s educational policy at the risk of jeopardizing the future of thousands of students and hundreds of educationists.
