Here is an interesting article about what a 96 year young man and his birthday party.

What is the typical impression of a 96 year old man. Hunched over, in a wheel chair, bed-ridden perhaps. Only able to walk with a walker.

The point is only a small percentage of people even reach their 96 birthday. Even fewer still reach it and are still in relatively good health. Only a fraction are active at this age. Yet this is the case for Carl Patton of Westerville, Ohio. He just celebrated his 96th Birthday.

Still active at 96 Carl is able to walk like a normal person with a normal step although if he is going to walk far he carries a cane more for balance in case he might trip than anything else. He still has all his mental facilities and is able to carry on a conversation just like you are me. His main deficiency is he is hard of hearing, although this is remedied with a hearing aid.

He still drives a car (short distances), gardens, shovels snow (by hand) in the winter, mows the grass (with a ride on mover) and still does a number of handyman like chores, building and fixing various things. At 94 Carl was seen up on his roof (he had to climb a ladder to get there) repairing some shingles, while on the one story roof he slipped and fell but fortunately he only suffered some minor bruises.

I was reading an interesting article on bad breath and from it did some experiments with Green Tea and found it works extremely well.

Plus here were the basic conclusions of the article:

Bad breath is most often caused by too much sulfur in the mouth tongue area,.and not enough liquid or saliva to wash this away. Think of it like this, a fast moving mountain stream always smells better than a stagnant swamp.

The remedies proposed in the article were to use any gums, mints, supplements, etc, which contained Zinc in them. This binds to the sulfur and removes it.

Also to drink plenty of water and fluids to keep your mouth rinsed out.

I was reading today that the oldest American a woman named Verona Johnston had died at 114 years old.

"Relatives said Johnston lived a wholesome life, rarely visited doctors and never used the deductible on her health insurance policy. The secretary at her doctor's office said Johnston had the thinnest file on record."

I found this quite interesting that a woman this age had "…the thinnest file on record." In others words this woman didn’t depend on doctors to keep her healthy. She took responsibility for her own health.

This is not unusual, when you study the oldest living people on earth they also seem to share this same trait of taking care of themselves instead of depending on doctors. This is not a knock on doctors, as they serve a worthwhile function, however our health is our own responsibility first - not our doctors.
