If there’s anything more boring than reading a half-assed post, it’s reading a post about not doing enough (or perhaps too many) half-assed posts.

I have to admit that I don’t have the time right now to keep up my usual posting pace. While I don’t know what the future will hold for Going Other Places, I know that I’ll keep the music coming. The tempo and frequency may change a bit, but I’ll keep the quality as high as ever. From now on, let’s keep it about the music, right?

Once again, my limited historic knowledge comes in handy. I have no presumptions about what Slacker may be like, but I feel confident that this track will surprise you as much as it surprised me. A scratch-expert gone progressive house prodigy gone Thai-inspired laidback producer sure sounds interesting.

Sit back and enjoy a 8-minute no-tempo ride. The chilled out vibes just makes me wish I had this for some of the sunny nights. If you give this track enough of your patience to let it fully settle, I promise you it’s worth it. Slow, echo-driven vocals make sure you stay focused and don’t drift away completely into the eternal soundscapes.

Sometimes it helps leaving out everything unnecessary. Just leaving the bare essentials sounds dangerous, but when done correctly it’s hauntingly effective. Zinc is a brilliant example. Although I’ve tried to get into his older stuff, his tendency towards tacky dubstep tunes didn’t catch me. Ok, that was fairly narrow-minded. My point is that his newer tracks are completely different and much harder hitting. Stripping everything but a simple drum pattern and a small set of synths, Zinc absolutely kills it with Blunt Edge.

I’ve never really thought of Scandinavia having a unique sound. If I had to point out a significant movement, though, the melancholic amalgam of techno and house seems to drive a lot of upcoming producers these days. Of course, referencing Trentemoller as a source of inspiration seems obvious (and clichéd by now), but turn you head and you’ll see the flock of upcoming artists ready to take over the scene.

Mislyd is an excellent example of the amount of talent just waiting to get played out. I love how they blend very organic sounds into their processed beats to create a striking mood; danceable enough to keep you moving and intelligent enough to keep you listening even when the lights go back on. Shout outs to Regnsky for providing a in-depth summary of Mislyd’s EP, which you can also download from their site. Admittedly, it’s in Danish, but take my word for it; it’s good.

If I can’t make it to Berlin, I’ll give NYC a shot. Admittedly, it’s a little farther away, but music-wise it sounds equally cool. So if a mental trip to Berlin is done with a Renaissance Man edit of a local bar-anthem, a New York trip has to involve some disco. Given that he’s going back and forth between New York and Berlin, Daniel Wang seems to be an appropriate artist to spin here. Lovely, lovely disco vibes.

I’ve spent most of my week dreaming of Berlin’s golden streets, so what would be more natural than celebrating Friday with what I’ve learned is a Berlin anthem. Reliable sources tell me that this track is what made Bar 25 erupt this summer. Although we’re not quite there, try to loose yourself in the balkan-inspired rhythms and strange vocals.

Riding through the desert, possibly influenced by more than just the endless horizon. The booming drums drive the track forward, but the real beauty lies in the contrast. Musiccargo’s remix of Desert Acid retains a chilled out vibe as we continue our echo-driven ride through the boundless desert.

SirBilly is back with another edit. Last time, he was extending The Incredible Bongo Band’s percussion-driven funk, but this time he’s turning up the dance knob. This is far from as organized as the Ohkey Dokey edit. A lot messier and dirtier, both music and lyrics-wise. Considering that the Bongo edit didn’t have any lyrics, that doesn’t say much, though.

While we’re all beginning to doubt that a new Digitalism release will ever see the light of day, Jens decides to wet our appetite with a new project. Palermo Disko Machine is a strange mix of Digitalism’s signature synth-spheres and an unmistakable disco-approach to dance music. This is solid German craftsmanship, although I miss a little disco passion. I guess Jens isn’t kidding about the ‘machine’ part.

As I browse through the internet’s endless rows of records I find myself amazed by a lot of different things. One thing I rarely meet, though, is good, old-fashioned technical skills. This was exactly where Austrian keyboard-smasher Dorian Concept impressed me. Other than his incredible improvisation skills, he’s making some truly funky tracks, too. Prepare yourself for a fusion of every possible subgenre of electro, hip hop, garage, and techno.

- Dorian Concept – Be Tween

This underplayed cut is taken from the excellent Beat Dimensions vol. 2 compilation, which you really should check out if you, like me, feel like exploring the LA wonky (what does that really mean?) hip hop scene. The fusion may seem strange when it’s just letters on your screen, but when it all melts together, it really does make sense. Pick it up on Boomkat, it’s well worth it.
