Surfing Australia has announced that renowned surfer Luke Egan will be inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame. This prestigious honour celebrates Egan’s exceptional career, which spanned over two decades on the ASP/World Surf League World Championship Tour. Egan’s impressive record includes four world tour event wins and a runner-up finish in the world title race in 2000. He consistently ranked among the top five surfers on five occasions, showcasing his remarkable talent and dedication.

Egan, hailing from Newcastle, NSW, and a competitor with Merewether Boardriders, expressed his gratitude for the recognition: “It is a great honour to be inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame in 2024. I am completely humbled! To be named alongside my heroes and greats of Australian Surfing is a dream. I have so much respect for everyone before me on the Hall Of Fame honour roll, it’s definitely a highlight of what has been an incredible surfing career, representing Australia on the international stage. Thank you to all the inductees that voted for me, that alone means so much.”

This year marks the 61st anniversary of the awards, a significant celebration of Australian surfing excellence. For the first time, the event will be held at HOTA, an iconic venue known for its vibrant arts, entertainment, and lifestyle offerings.

The awards ceremony will not only honour Australia’s top surfing talents but also acknowledge those who have made significant contributions behind the scenes, including event organisers, business leaders, media professionals, and photographers.

Luke Egan joins an illustrious list of past inductees, including Chelsea Hedges, Joel Parkinson, Taj Burrow, Stephanie Gilmore, Julian Wilson, Owen Wright, Mick Fanning, Mark Occhilupo, and Sally Fitzgibbons, further cementing his legacy in the sport.

Greta Stanley drops new single ' Greatest Hit ' from forthcoming third studio album.

In anticipation of her upcoming album If I Get In, Where Would I Go?, Greta Stanley is serving us a taste of what’s to come with her latest single, ‘Greatest Hit’. This track is a lively and infectious piece of pop that showcases Stanley’s gift for storytelling and melody.

Listen to Single Now

‘Greatest Hit’ dives deep into the theme of relationships—not just with others, but also with oneself. At its core, the song is a celebration of self-love and the journey towards prioritising personal happiness and well-being. With her relatable lyrics and compelling vocals, Stanley invites listeners to reflect on the importance of being your own biggest fan.

Produced by Cheekbone in Townsville and polished with final mastering by Andrei Eremin (known for his work with G Flip and Baker Boy), the song carries a professional sheen that complements its heartfelt message. Stanley credits artists like Petey and Medium Build as her inspiration, but her personal touch is what truly makes this track stand out.

“This song kind of has a double meaning,” Stanley shares. “It’s about knowing you have so much to offer someone and finding a person who appreciates that. But it’s also a message to myself, about self-love and really working on the relationship you have with yourself.”

She continues, “When you overcome those challenges that pull you down, you can truly show up for yourself. It’s about becoming the person who lifts yourself up instead of tearing yourself down. It’s the part of you that’s often hidden when you get lost in the dark thoughts, and working hard—whether through therapy or breaking habits—allows you to see that version of yourself you knew was always there, the one you don’t want to keep hidden.”

With ‘Greatest Hit’, Stanley is reminding us that we’re all capable of being the heroes of our own stories, and sometimes, the greatest hit is the one we sing for ourselves. This is just a taste of the emotional depth and musical brilliance we can expect from her forthcoming album. Keep an eye out—Greta Stanley is hitting all the right notes.

Get ready for an unmissable showdown set against the stunning, rugged landscapes of the Northern Territory and South Australia. Premiering on Netflix this October 24, Territory dives deep into the heart of a family feud that threatens to shatter everything the Lawsons have built over generations.

When the formidable Lawson family’s prized estate, Marianne Station, is left without a clear heir, the fight for control becomes a dangerous game of power and betrayal. With the dynasty on shaky ground, the outback’s most influential players — from fierce cattle barons and desert gangsters to respected Indigenous elders and ruthless mining billionaires — all set their sights on the spoils. In a land where fortunes can change in the blink of an eye, everyone’s vying for their slice of the Lawson empire. But with so much at stake, who will come out on top?

With just six gripping episodes, Territory promises high-stakes drama, family intrigue, and an authentic glimpse into the battle for Australia’s untamed heart. Mark your calendars for October 24 and prepare for a wild ride through the outback’s raw and unforgiving terrain, where alliances shift like the desert sands and no one is safe from the fight for supremacy.

In the heart of London, a devastating explosion rocks the city and turns US Ambassador Kate Wyler’s (Keri Russell) life upside down. As she struggles to piece together the shattered remains of her career and personal life, a shocking truth comes to light: the attack that brought her to the UK was not orchestrated by a rival nation, but by forces within the British government itself.

With her world crumbling, Kate is left with only one ally she can trust—her estranged, almost-ex-husband Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), who is not only alive but deeply entangled in the conspiracy. As they navigate the murky waters of betrayal and treason, Kate must juggle a fractured marriage, a complicated relationship with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a perilous visit from Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney).

The Gold Coast 500 secures its future with a new three-year deal, as organisers pledge to keep the thrilling Supercars races in Queensland until at least 2027.

Supercars and Tourism and Events Queensland have announced a significant three-year extension, ensuring that the Gold Coast and Townsville Supercars races will continue to thrill fans through at least 2027. This announcement promises to maintain the vibrant motorsport events that inject approximately $100 million annually into the Queensland economy.

The extension was celebrated by Supercars drivers, staff, and local MPs during gatherings in Townsville and on the Gold Coast. This move guarantees that the Repco Supercars Championship will persist at these iconic street circuits, much to the delight of motorsport enthusiasts.

Those hoping for a night race will likely have to wait beyond 2027, as commitments during this contract period maintain the race as a daytime event, making the previously floated idea of night racing a distant memory.

The Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, which began as an Indy car event in 1991 and has featured Supercars since 1994, stands as Queensland’s largest annual sporting event. In 2023, it attracted over 201,000 patrons, showcasing its enduring popularity and economic impact.

The event took a two year hiatus during COVID the event roared back into life on the Gold Coast in 2022, and has seen a resurgence with record crowds in attendance last year, for the modern era of the event.

Townsville, too, plays a crucial role in the Supercars calendar. First hosting the event in 2009, the Townsville 500 celebrated its 15th anniversary this year, drawing over 126,000 attendees. As North Queensland’s largest annual sporting event, it remains a cornerstone of the region’s sporting calendar.

Looking ahead, the Repco Supercars Championship will roar back to life at the Repco Bathurst 1000 from October 10-13. Following this, the 2024 Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 will take place from October 25-27, promising more high-octane action on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

Get a first look at Stone & Wood Brewing Co's latest Tasting Room in Murwillumbah, scheduled to open by Christmas 2025.

Lion has just revealed the design plans for the much-anticipated Stone & Wood Brewing co Tasting Room, set to open in Murwillumbah. This new space at the Stone & Wood brewery promises to bring the brewery’s community-centric brewing philosophy to life, offering an immersive tasting room experience complete with engaging brewery tours. The launch of the Tasting Room is a key feature of a significant $30 million upgrade to the Stone & Wood brewery, poised to substantially boost the capacity and capabilities of the site.

Scheduled to open its doors before Christmas 2025, the Tasting Room marks a major milestone in the brewery’s ongoing commitment to fostering community connections and enhancing the local economy. The upgrade, first announced last year, is already underway, signalling new opportunities for the Northern Rivers region through job creation, collaboration with local suppliers, and economic stimulation. The Murwillumbah Tasting Room will complement the aesthetic of Stone & Wood’s existing Tasting Room located in Byron Bay, offering a fresh yet harmonious addition to the brewery’s New South Wales offerings.

Richie Crowe, a long-standing member of the Stone & Wood Brewing Co team and now Lion’s Brewery Network Director, expressed the company’s enduring commitment to community engagement: “At Stone & Wood, we’ve always believed in the importance of community, and that a brewery should be more than just a place that makes beer. It’s about nurturing connections and bringing people together, and our new tasting room in Murwillumbah is designed to bring this community brewing philosophy to life.”

Crowe further emphasised the exciting opportunity the new Tasting Room presents: “The Tasting Room also creates an exciting opportunity for us to involve our community more deeply in the Stone & Wood journey. By building a space that is welcoming and embodies the spirit of the Northern Rivers, we can share ideas and brewing innovations directly with the locals and visitors who love our beers, fostering a more vibrant community right here at the source.”

The design of the Tasting Room pays homage to the Northern Rivers and Murwillumbah’s unique character, featuring red brick that echoes the volcanic soil of the region. The use of locally sourced, durable materials such as brick, concrete, and steel, alongside touches of local hardwood, will create an environment that truly reflects Stone & Wood’s ethos.

Lead Architect Hayley Pryor shared insights into the design philosophy: “As architects, we strive to create spaces that have a strong sense of place and community, and the Stone & Wood team had a clear vision for how they wanted to bring their community brewing philosophy to life. Our goal was to show that great beer experiences can co-exist with environmental responsibility. Locally sourced materials and trades are prioritised, endemic species are integrated into the landscaping, and time-honoured sustainable practices are woven through the design, making the space feel right at home in Murwillumbah.”

Pryor’s team has crafted a Tasting Room that embodies Stone & Wood Brewing Co’s dedication to craft, community, and sustainability, offering a multi-layered experience where the brewing process and the patron experience seamlessly merge within its unique Northern Rivers context.

Janelle Saffin, State Member for Lismore and NSW Parliamentary Secretary for Disaster Recovery, extended her congratulations to Stone & Wood’s management and staff on their visionary plans to enhance the Murwillumbah Brewery. Saffin remarked, “This upgrade and expansion are a show of confidence in the local economy and in the future prosperity of the Northern Rivers region. Parliamentary duties prevent me from attending the reveal, but like many others, I look forward to visiting the tasting room for a tipple.”

The Murwillumbah Tasting Room will welcome visitors from Wednesday to Friday between 2pm and 8pm, and on weekends from 12pm to 8pm, starting before Christmas 2025. With its opening, Stone & Wood continues to reinforce its role as a cornerstone of the community, offering a venue where the joys of craft beer and the vibrancy of the Northern Rivers come together in perfect harmony.

Murwillumbah to Welcome the New Stone & Wood Brewing Co Tasting Room Before Christmas 2025

Luke Combs returns to Australia and New Zealand for a historic stadium tour in 2025, joined by Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, and Lane Pittman. Don't miss this epic event!

Global sensation Luke Combs is gearing up for an epic return to Australia and New Zealand in January and February 2025. This tour is set to be a record-breaking event as Combs will become the first country artist to headline a full stadium tour in these regions. The tour will encompass eight massive shows across Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. Joining Combs on this landmark tour are American icons Jordan Davis and Mitchell Tenpenny, alongside Australian favourite Lane Pittman, who previously supported Combs during his 2023 Australian tour.

Luke Combs’ upcoming tour is more than just a series of concerts; it marks a significant milestone in his already monumental career. Recently, Combs received nominations for Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year (Fathers & Sons), and the highly coveted Entertainer of the Year at this year’s CMA Awards. Combs had previously won Entertainer of the Year in both 2021 and 2022, further solidifying his status as a leading figure in the country music scene.

The love for Luke Combs in Australia is palpable, with Sydney and Brisbane ranking among his top four global streaming cities on Spotify. His ARIA triple platinum album This One’s For You and the chart-topping double platinum What You See Ain’t Always What You Get have won over local audiences. On his fourth headline Australian tour, Combs is set to elevate his already unparalleled trajectory, having progressed from intimate theatres to towering stadiums in just five short years.

Released in June, Combs’ Fathers & Sons album is a collection of twelve heartfelt tracks showcasing his most personal songwriting to date. Recorded entirely live, the album allows Combs to reflect on his experiences as a father and the unique bond between parents and children. The album’s lead single, ‘The Man He Sees In Me’, has been a hit with fans, offering a deeply personal look into Combs’ life.

Adding to his impressive list of achievements, Combs’ hit single ‘Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma’ was featured on the soundtrack for the new Twisters movie and is the subject of an exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The exhibit, entitled Luke Combs: The Man I Am, features a variety of photographs, childhood memorabilia, instruments, setlists, and more from throughout Combs’ life and career.

Earlier this year, Combs delivered an unforgettable performance of ‘Fast Car’ with Tracy Chapman during the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Rolling Stone heralded it as “one of the all-time best collaborative performances in Grammy history.” The performance capped off a remarkable year for ‘Fast Car’, as Combs’ rendition won Single of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards and 2023 CMA Awards, with Chapman winning Song of the Year. The single spent five consecutive weeks atop Billboard’s Country Airplay chart and reached No.1 on the Hot AC Chart, making Combs the first male solo artist to achieve this feat. The double platinum single has garnered over 1.1 billion global streams to date and spent eighteen weeks in the Top 5 of Billboard’s all-genre Hot 100 chart, eight of which were at No.2.

Returning to Australia after making their debut at CMC Rocks QLD in 2023, both Jordan Davis and Mitchell Tenpenny are set to bring the heat to stadiums in 2025. Jordan Davis, an award-winning, multi-platinum singer and songwriter, is renowned for his platinum-selling albums Homestate and Bluebird Days. His chart-topping hits include ‘Next Thing You Know’, ‘Buy Dirt’, and ‘What My World Spins Around’. Davis’ ability to craft songs that resonate with audiences has earned him numerous accolades, including CMA and ACM winning Song of the Year honours.

Mitchell Tenpenny, another celebrated figure in the country music scene, continues to captivate audiences with his soulful voice and relatable lyrics. Known for his hit songs such as ‘Drunk Me’ and ‘Truth About You’, Tenpenny’s music explores themes of love, heartbreak, and personal growth. His performances are marked by an emotional depth that resonates with fans worldwide.

Local legend Lane Pittman, who supported Combs on his 2023 Australian tour, will once again join the lineup, adding a touch of homegrown talent to the tour. Pittman’s energetic performances and charismatic stage presence have earned him a loyal following in Australia.

The tour promises to be a spectacular showcase of talent, with each artist bringing their unique style to the stage. Fans can expect an unforgettable experience, filled with powerful performances and a celebration of country music at its finest.

Bootleggers presale tickets will be available from Monday 23 September, while Frontier Members can access presale tickets on Tuesday 24 September.
Ramping up the anticipation, Shane Howard announced the headlining acts for the October race weekend. Fans can look forward to performances by Bag Raiders, Peking Duck, Spiderbait, The Jets, and Kingswood, ensuring three nights of non-stop action and entertainment that will make this year’s Boost Mobile GC500 one for the books.

As preparations kick off with the track build commencing on September 16, the excitement for the Boost Mobile GC500 is palpable. With more than 200,000 fans expected to flood the coast, this year’s event is set to inject an estimated $55 million into the local economy, reaffirming its status as Queensland’s must-attend sporting spectacle.

From 25-27 October, the iconic street circuit will come alive with the roar of Supercars by day and the electrifying beats of top music acts by night.

The official launch at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort tonight set the tone for what promises to be a memorable event. With Peking Duk, Jet, Spiderbait, Bag Raiders, Kingswood, and DJ Total Eclipse headlining, the music lineup is as hot as the track action itself.

Friday Night Frenzy

Kicking off the festivities, Friday night will be all about the DJs. Brisbane-based, New York-born party starter DJ Total Eclipse is set to ignite the stage with his high-energy set. Known for thrilling fans at Supercars events in Townsville and on the Gold Coast, he’s the perfect choice to get the crowd buzzing.

Following DJ Total Eclipse, dance royalty duo Bag Raiders will take over. These Aussie legends, known for their hit “Shooting Stars,” have a knack for getting everyone on their feet. But the night’s not over yet! Peking Duk, the dynamic duo from Canberra, will close things out with their signature blend of electronic and pop hits. With 26 Platinum certifications and a string of ARIA awards, they’re sure to end the night on a high.

Rocking Saturday Night

Australian rock legends Spiderbait will take the stage next, bringing their high-energy performance to the Gold Coast crowd. Celebrating their own 30th anniversary, Spiderbait has a storied career with multiple ARIA awards and a string of chart-topping hits. Their version of “Black Betty” still resonates 20 years after dominating the charts.

Closing out Saturday night will be the multi-platinum rockers Jet. Inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame last year, they’re bringing their iconic sound and hits like “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” to the GC500 stage for the first time. It’s set to be an unforgettable night of rock that’ll have everyone singing along.

Will Brown and Scott Pye win the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 in a thrilling race, securing their first endurance victories. Brown extends his Supercars Championship lead.

In an electrifying race at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500, Will Brown emerged victorious, narrowly beating his Red Bull Camaro teammate Broc Feeney. The win marked a significant milestone for Brown, who, alongside Scott Pye, secured his first-ever Supercars endurance race triumph.

The dynamic Red Bull Ampol Racing duo delivered a one-two finish after a tense battle, with Feeney & Brown colliding following a pit stop miscue. The pair managed to recover and maintain their lead, delivering Triple Eight Race Engineering its ninth victory in the prestigious Sandown 500 endurance event.

A Maiden Podium for PremiAir Racing and Close Calls

Behind the Red Bull teammates, James Golding and David Russell made history by clinching PremiAir Nulon Racing’s first-ever Supercars podium. Golding held off a fierce charge from Matt Payne, finishing just 0.3941 seconds ahead of the Kiwi driver. Payne, alongside co-driver Garth Tander, had to settle for fourth place, followed by Triple Eight wildcard pair Cooper Murray and Craig Lowndes in fifth.

In sixth place were Cam Waters and James Moffat, while Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth rounded out the top seven. Mostert, a top contender in the championship, managed to salvage valuable points despite an early spin by Holdsworth, keeping him within reach of Brown.

Race Drama and Safety Cars

The race was far from straightforward, with three Safety Car periods and a Full Course Yellow adding to the tension. A key restart on lap 95 saw Brown pull ahead, while Feeney fiercely defended his position from Golding. Waters, meanwhile, capitalised on the chaos, overtaking Payne for fourth at Turn 1.

Late-race Safety Cars kept the pack bunched together, setting up a nail-biting finish. In the closing moments, the top five drivers pushed their cars to the limit, recording their fastest laps on lap 152. Feeney eventually backed off, allowing Brown to secure his first win since April in New Zealand, much to the delight of the 63,418 fans celebrating Sandown’s 60th anniversary.

Post-Race Reflections

“God, what a race!” Brown exclaimed after the win. “Scott did a mega job, and I was nervous at the start when we lost the lead to the No. 88. The last few laps were nerve-wracking – I knew Broc would pounce if I made any mistakes. But it was awesome to come out on top.”

Brown’s victory not only marked his first endurance win but also extended his championship lead. He now sits 189 points ahead of Ford’s Chaz Mostert, with Feeney trailing by 222 points.

For Scott Pye, the victory was equally momentous, marking his second career win and his first since Albert Park in 2018.

Looking Ahead to Bathurst

With the Sandown 500 behind them, all eyes now turn to the iconic Repco Bathurst 1000, set for October 10-13. Nine drivers are still in mathematical contention for the championship, with 300 points on offer at Mount Panorama. Brown’s commanding lead puts him in a strong position, but with Bathurst’s notorious unpredictability, the title fight is far from over.

The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship continues to heat up, and fans won’t want to miss what’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting Bathurst 1000 races in recent history.

Tickets for the Repco Bathurst 1000 are on sale now.

Will Brown takes pole at the Sandown 500 in a thrilling shootout, narrowly beating Cam Waters. The 161-lap race begins at 2:05pm AEST.

Yesterday’s action-packed Boost Mobile Shootout at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 saw championship leader Will Brown secure pole position in dramatic fashion, edging out Cam Waters by a mere 0.06 seconds. Brown, driving the Red Bull #87, claimed his seventh supercars career pole and his second consecutive at Sandown, setting himself up for today’s highly anticipated race.

In what was a nail-biting one-lap dash, Brown held his nerve in tricky conditions to post a time of 1:10.2549s. Waters, who was hot on his heels, clocked in just behind with a time of 1:10.3196s. Anton De Pasquale surprised everyone by finishing third, despite a shaky start that saw him run wide at the final corner before his lap began. He recovered brilliantly, but his time was ultimately no match for Brown’s.

Brown’s performance not only gives him a solid start for today’s race, but also marks his first pole since the 2024 season-opening Bathurst 500 in February. After receiving the Boost Mobile Pole Position Award from Collingwood AFL star Jordan De Goey, Brown expressed his excitement. “I knew it would just be who didn’t stuff up out there, so I was just trying not to screw it up,” he said. “It’s been a tough few rounds for us, but I really wanted another pole this year, and now I’m ready to try and win this weekend.”

The competition in the shootout was fierce, with Andre Heimgartner, Richie Stanaway, and Brodie Kostecki unable to best De Pasquale’s early pace. Ryan Wood, who initially looked like a threat, lost control in the esses and ended up in the Turn 9 sand trap. Meanwhile, Matt Payne and Chaz Mostert both struggled to make a dent in the top three times, leaving Brown’s teammate, Feeney, as the last real challenge – but even he couldn’t unseat Brown.

With the pole in hand, Brown now leads the charge into today’s 161-lap Sandown 500, which will kick off at 2:05pm AEST. A total of 16 Chevrolet Camaros and 10 Ford Mustangs will take to the track for what promises to be an exciting and gruelling race.

Catch all the action from the Penrite Oil Sandown 500, live on Kayo or Foxtel.

The event will be broadcast live on Foxtel’s Fox Sports 506 and streamed on Kayo, with highlights also airing on the Seven Network.

For fans of high-speed drama, today’s race is shaping up to be a must-watch.

Green Day’s legendary trio – Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool – will take the stage at CBUS Super Stadium on Wednesday, March 5, for a night that promises to be nothing short of epic. In a special treat for fans, the band will be playing their iconic albums Dookie and American Idiot in full, along with tracks from their new album, Saviors, and some of their greatest hits from their expansive career. As if that wasn’t enough, Californian rockers AFI will be joining them as a special guest, making their long-awaited return to Australia since 2017.

In a statement, the band shared their enthusiasm: “We’ve never been more excited to unleash new music than with Saviors, a record that’s meant to be rocked live, together. And we cannot wait to return to Australia, it’s been way too long. So let’s thrash.”

This tour is set to be a monumental celebration, marking the 30th anniversary of Green Day’s 1994 album Dookie and the 20th anniversary of American Idiot, which remains a cultural phenomenon. Both albums have left an indelible mark on punk culture, and fans are in for a wild ride as the band takes them through these legendary records.

Elevate your night at Lulu Rooftop Bar on Orchid Avenue, where Miami-inspired vibes meet retro glam. Sip cocktails and soak in stunning Gold Coast views!

The Gold Coast’s party scene just got a lot more exciting with the opening of Lulu Rooftop & Bar, the hottest new destination in Surfers Paradise. Nestled at Level 2/4 Orchid Avenue, this rooftop venue offers a lively atmosphere, stunning views, and a dynamic entertainment line-up. Having officially opened its doors on Monday, 9th September, Lulu is already making waves among locals and visitors alike.

At a cool $1.59 million investment, Lulu Rooftop & Bar is an ode to Miami’s iconic Art Deco style, infused with the tropical allure of the Gold Coast. The venue offers a chic combination of indoor and outdoor spaces, with a sleek bar, booth seating, and a spacious dancefloor indoors, perfect for partygoers. The open-air rooftop accommodates up to 210 guests, ideal for laid-back brunches, sunset cocktails, and lively evening parties.

What sets Lulu apart is its eye-catching décor. Local artist Jamie Peters designed a custom “Miami Vice meets Surfers Paradise” wallpaper, which gives the venue a unique edge. Combined with the marble-top bar, wall-to-wall aged mirrors, and plush green surroundings, Lulu exudes elegance while remaining approachable.

The Frosé Wall: A Summer Must-Try

One of the most buzz-worthy features of Lulu is its Frosé Wall, guaranteed to be a hit during the Gold Coast’s summer months. With six different boozy frosé flavours on offer, including Passionfruit Long Island Iced Tea and Frozen Squashie, guests can indulge in frozen cocktails while customising them with treats from a DIY candy station. It’s the ultimate Instagrammable moment that will likely draw in a crowd looking to cool down in style.

Entertainment Line-Up to Keep the Party Going

For those looking for a spot that offers more than just drinks and dining, Lulu Rooftop & Bar delivers an exhilarating entertainment experience. With live entertainment running from Thursday to Sunday, the venue promises a rotating mix of live DJs and musicians, ensuring the vibe never falls flat.

Venue manager Steve Csutoros says Lulu is primed to bring something special to Surfers Paradise: “We’ve curated and perfected everything Lulu has to offer, from the entertainment line-up to the menu. It’s all ready and waiting to kick off, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome locals and visitors through our doors.”

The entertainment kicks off today, Thursday 12th September, with a DJ set from Holeman at 7pm. The weekend is jam-packed, with performances from acts such as MaDan, Luis Percu, and Minx on Friday, and Axel Taylor, Maskoff, and Yolanda Be Cool headlining on Saturday. The fun continues with a bottomless brunch on Sunday, accompanied by a live set from Matty Sax, who’ll be mixing tunes with live saxophone, alongside Charles Oliver.

Executive Chef Justin Wise has curated a menu that reflects global beachside cuisine, using fresh and seasonal ingredients. The highlight dishes, like the Lulu Classic Club Sandwich, featuring free-range chicken, bacon, kewpie mayo, and gouda cheese, provide the perfect bites for guests enjoying the venue’s laid-back, holiday vibe. Other standout options include Grilled Corn Ribs served with paprika butter and chipotle aioli, and a selection of skewers, including Wagyu beef with burnt onion jam and Swordfish with a cherry tomato and corn salsa.

Lulu’s menu isn’t just about the food, though – it’s also got a cocktail list that rivals the best in the area. Guests can sip on classic Pornstar Martinis or opt for Lulu’s signature drinks like the Lulu Spritz, Peach Velvet, or Passionfruit Therapy. The cocktails are designed to set the tone for any occasion, from a casual lunch to a late-night dance session under the stars.

Lulu Rooftop & Bar is the kind of venue that seems to have thought of everything. Whether you’re after a quiet rooftop brunch, a vibrant cocktail hour, or an all-out party with live music and dancing, Lulu delivers. With its blend of upscale décor, relaxed vibe, and exceptional food and drink options, this new Surfers Paradise hotspot is set to become a go-to for locals and tourists alike.

Launch Week Festivities

Lulu’s launch week promises to be unforgettable. Running from Thursday 12th to Sunday 15th September, guests can enjoy live DJs every night, with the highlight being Yolanda Be Cool’s headlining set on Saturday. Sunday’s bottomless brunch will round off the weekend in style, making Lulu the ultimate place to kick back and enjoy everything the Gold Coast has to offer.

If you’re in the area, make sure to stop by Lulu Rooftop & Bar, where the drinks are cold, the vibes are electric, and the party doesn’t stop. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Lulu is the perfect spot to soak in the Gold Coast sun while enjoying great food, drinks, and entertainment.

In a rare political move, Taylor Swift announces her support for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 election, addressing AI mis-information and misinformation

In a surprising turn of events following the latest US presidential debate, music superstar Taylor Swift has made a powerful political statement to her 283 million Instagram followers. The normally politically reserved singer has now thrown her support behind Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate for the 2024 presidential race, in a move that has caused ripples across social media and news platforms alike.

Up until now, Swift has mostly kept her political views to herself during the 2024 election campaign, refraining from publicly endorsing any candidate. While she’s not a stranger to political commentary, her activism has generally focused on social issues, such as LGBTQ+ rights and gender equality, rather than directly endorsing a particular political figure. However, a series of recent events seem to have driven Swift to break her silence.

Misinformation Sparks Swift’s Response

At the centre of her decision to speak out was a deep concern about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and the spread of misinformation. Swift revealed that an AI-generated endorsement in her name had appeared on former president Donald Trump’s campaign website, falsely suggesting she supported his run for re-election.

Swift, clearly disturbed by the incident, took to Instagram to set the record straight, explaining her fear about AI’s capacity to spread dangerous, false narratives. “Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” she wrote.

Swift’s concerns are shared by many experts who have voiced alarm over the misuse of AI in politics, particularly in the spread of deepfake technology, where realistic but fake media is used to mislead or manipulate voters.

Swift’s Official Endorsement

Having decided to clarify her position, Swift announced her support for Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the United States, in her bid for the presidency. In her statement, she praised Harris for her leadership qualities and dedication to fighting for the rights that Swift holds dear, including reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ advocacy.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift declared. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

Swift’s reference to “calm and not chaos” is widely seen as a critique of Donald Trump’s presidency and campaign. Throughout his political career, Trump has been known for his controversial and often divisive rhetoric, something that many of his critics have used to highlight the stark contrast between him and his political opponents.

Swift also gave a nod of approval to Kamala Harris’s running mate, Tim Walz, who has been a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive health throughout his political career. Swift described Walz as a leader who “has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”

Congratulations to Zoe Creed of Queensland, who was crowned Miss Universe Australia 2024 in the Grand Ballroom at Crown Perth on the 5th of September, with a great crowd in attendance for the events first time in Perth.

Zoe is the first title holder to bring the crown back to Queensland since Jesinta Campbell back in 2010. We caught up with her for a quick chat in the lead up to the National Final; read her interview below.

So, Zoe, why don’t you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

I’m a 23-year-old, Brisbane-born and raised girl from the Sunshine State, Queensland. Due to my roles in the modelling and fitness industries, I am lucky enough to have called Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, and now the Gold Coast home. I’ve been modelling and working within the fitness industry since I was 15. I feel both jobs have challenged me to take on different experiences and evolve.

Despite a sort of gypsy-like lifestyle from having to work and travel all over the place, I’m loving my life right now. So much so that I’ve recently ticked off my dream and launched my own fitness platform, created for women, called “Born Creed”.

“Born Creed” is something I developed to empower women of all ages and stages of life. My aim is for them to feel good in their bodies, bringing the basics of fitness in a fun and inspiring way. I want to continue to challenge myself and experience every opportunity I can.

Health, fitness, fashion, and new experiences—that’s me.

What inspired you to take the leap and enter Miss Universe Australia?

Shooting straight, what inspired me was seeing many past contestants and winners go on and influence their careers and others as a result of being in the program. Watching them evolve and take on new opportunities post-program has been inspiring.

I’d love to use this experience to further my career not only within the modelling and fashion industries but also to expand my knowledge and reach within the women’s health industry, which I’m invested in. The experiences and connections with the girls and sponsors have been fantastic. I don’t want to be one-dimensional; I hope the program can provide many opportunities in my current fields of expertise, as well as new and challenging ones.

As part of the program, you had the amazing opportunity to travel to Vietnam, courtesy of Vietjet, and stay at the beautiful Hoiana Resort. How was that experience for you?

I loved it! The Vietnam experience—flying with Vietjet to Vietnam and staying at the Hoiana Resort and Golf—was an unbelievable experience. It’s not very often you get to travel across the world with 27 beautiful, intelligent women from all parts of Australia, experience not only a new country and culture, but also really get to know yourself away from all your own comforts.

As a lover of food, I loved the Vietnamese cuisine we were fortunate enough to experience in cooking classes—with a few fails but nonetheless delicious dishes. In addition, the Hoiana Resort, where we did the swim shoots and played some mini-golf, was absolutely beautiful. The pristine grounds and surroundings, pool areas, and overall vibe made it a very special place.

But the best experience for me was the NIDA workshop and walking classes. These were two areas that were relatively new to me, and I’ve gained real, tangible skills from them.

What would you say was the highlight of the trip?

I keep looking back at all of the videos and photos from the trip, which makes me want to relive the experience again because it was just so much fun. I think it’s very difficult to highlight just one experience because I enjoyed them all.

One that really hit home for me was being able to go out and work with the organisation @hearing_and_beyond, a niche school for deaf and hard-of-hearing children in the area. They taught us sign language, we danced, laughed, and played games. It was a heart-warming experience, realising how privileged we all are. It was a day that I will remember forever, and I truly believe more people should experience this, as it puts life into perspective.

Can you describe an experience in Vietnam that pushed you out of your comfort zone?

The heat. Look, coming from a Queensland girl, I thought I’d be fine, but let me tell you, the heat in Vietnam was no joke. However, it was very ideal for a poolside day, which is where us girls went for our downtime.

In all seriousness, the first walking class. I have done runway for many years now, but learning to transition from modelling to being more vibrant and almost dance-like in my walk was definitely a learning process. But don’t worry, I’ve got it down pat now.

Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Moraya Wilson. Imagine you’re standing on stage with the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Great question. It’s you vs you!

For so long, my mindset was probably that I had let others stop me from achieving things in my life. However, I guess with age and more life experiences, I’ve realised it was never anyone else standing in my way. The only person stopping me from achieving what I wanted was, well, me! That’s why I entered the program—I stopped getting in my own way, and I just went for it.

With everyone bringing their own unique flair to the program, what would you say sets you apart from the other contestants?

You are right, everyone is unique, which is what’s beautiful. For me, I think I’ve been able to continually adapt and evolve through the experiences I put myself in. I think from my early modelling career and teaching within the fitness industry, I’ve been conditioned to elevate myself to what will be expected of me by clients and deliver—similar to the MUA program.

I love fashion, fitness, nutrition, and creating, and I think what sets me apart the most is that I really believe in what I do.

What’s something about you that people might find surprising?

I was a boxing instructor for five years, which I loved—teaching a different way of movement. Most of all, I love my art! I almost went into a creative industries degree. Most of my free time is filled with sketching, painting, or creating in some way, which often results in a lot of mess. Some of my favourite artists are Frida Kahlo and local Aussie-born artist Jai Vasicek, who I met when I was a young girl at a market.

If you could work on any dream project, with no limits on time or resources, what would it be?

My dream project would be to merge all my loves together. I’ve often visualised the idea or possibility of a physical studio for “Born Creed”. A coffee shop attached out front that focuses on nutrition, and my own fashion line where your active lifestyle meets high-end fashion.

Imagine that… fitness, food, and fashion. I like it.

We have a few quick questions to wrap up the interview:

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be and why?
Golf – because I was terrible in Vietnam, and I want to be able to redeem myself. It’d also be cool to win against Dad on the first go, which would be very satisfying.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
Skydiving! I loved it so much, they offered me the opportunity to go up twice. No questions asked—I was back up in that plane and jumping straight out again.

Do you have a guilty pleasure that you enjoy?
Chocolate-covered dates, stuffed with peanut butter (it has to be crunchy), and sea salt on top! If you haven’t tried it, you are missing out.

If you could have any superpower for a day, what would it be and how would you use it?
To breathe underwater. H2O: Just Add Water was my favourite show growing up, so any opportunity to live out that mermaid life, I’d take it.

At the 2024 Lexus WSL Finals, Caity Simmers makes history as the youngest World Champion, and John John Florence secures his third World Title. Read more about their triumph.

In an action packed finals day of breathtaking performances and unforgettable moments, Caity Simmers (USA) and John John Florence (HAW) emerged as the 2024 World Surf League (WSL) World Champions. Both athletes entered the Lexus WSL Finals as the No. 1 seeds, proving their dominance by securing their titles in front of a roaring crowd at Lower Trestles. It marks a historic day for the sport as both Simmers and Florence become the first pair to defend their top seed position since the WSL Finals format was introduced in 2021.

Caity Simmers Becomes Surfing’s Youngest World Champion

At just 18 years old, Caity Simmers has redefined the limits of professional surfing, clinching her maiden World Title in only her second year on the Championship Tour (CT). The Oceanside, California native faced a formidable opponent in reigning WSL Champion Caroline Marks (USA) during the final, with the competition culminating in a nail-biting three-heat showdown.

Simmers’ final heat total of 18.37 – the highest in the WSL Finals – was a defining moment, showcasing her explosive power, fluid style, and undeniable talent. Her win marks California’s first women’s World Title in 40 years, cementing her legacy as a game-changer for the sport.

“It means so much,” Simmers said after her victory. “I was going through every single emotion today, and it feels crazy. I can’t believe it. I was feeling so much love from everyone. You can look at it like it’s all for yourself, or you can look at it like it’s for those people who support me.”

Simmers’ path to glory this season has been nothing short of remarkable. She collected multiple CT wins, including the Lexus Pipe Pro, Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, and Vivo Rio Pro, while also making her Olympic debut earlier this year.

Battle of the Champions: Simmers vs. Marks

In one of the most intense women’s finals in recent memory, the first heat saw Marks take an early win, thanks to her outstanding backhand technique that scored a 9.60, the highest single wave score for women in the Finals. However, Simmers came back stronger in the second heat, posting an excellent 9.17, followed by a near-perfect 9.20, leaving Marks playing catch-up.

The third and final heat proved to be the decider, with Simmers’ flawless execution earning her an 8.33, which put her firmly in the driver’s seat. Marks fought back with a solid 7.17, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Simmers, who ultimately secured her first World Title.

Reflecting on her approach to the final match, Simmers said, “I wanted to go out there and just dance and surf how I wanted to surf, not like there was so much weight on it. Everyone’s here because surfing is so great. We’re just out there riding waves.”

John John Florence’s Triumphant Return

On the men’s side, John John Florence cemented his status as one of the sport’s all-time greats, claiming his third World Title after an epic final against Brazil’s Italo Ferreira. The victory marked the end of a seven-year journey plagued by injuries, with Florence returning to the top of the world rankings for the first time since 2017.

The 31-year-old Hawaiian, long considered a prodigy in the sport, first won his World Title in 2016 and repeated the feat in 2017. However, a series of injuries derailed his momentum in subsequent seasons. Today’s win solidifies his place among the legends of surfing, joining an elite group of surfers like Gabriel Medina (BRA), Mick Fanning (AUS), and Andy Irons (HAW) with three World Titles.

“I’m tearing up,” Florence said. “I can’t believe it. The last seven years have been so tough. There were so many injuries, and just fighting back to be in this position. My family, my wife, my son, my team – everyone helped me get here.”

A Clash of Titans: Florence vs. Ferreira

Florence’s road to victory was anything but easy. In the first heat of the men’s final, Ferreira came out swinging, forcing Florence into a combination situation early on. But Florence responded with a score of 7.17, setting the stage for a dramatic comeback. In the dying moments of the heat, Florence unleashed a powerful forehand attack, scoring an 8.33 and turning the tide in his favour as the horn sounded.

The second and final heat saw Florence deliver a near-flawless performance, opening with a 9.70, the highest single wave score in WSL Finals history. Despite Ferreira’s valiant effort, which included two excellent rides, Florence’s lead was too great to overcome.

“What a day,” Florence said. “It’s been a really hard road getting here. To be part of the list of names with three World Titles is incredible. I’m stoked to tie it with Gabe [Medina]. He’s such a fierce competitor.”

A New Era of Surfing Champions

With their victories, Caity Simmers and John John Florence have ushered in a new era of surfing. Simmers’ rise to the top signals a changing of the guard in women’s surfing, while Florence’s return proves that perseverance pays off. Both champions have set the bar high for the next generation of surfers and have left an indelible mark on the sport.

As the sun sets on the 2024 WSL Championship Tour, the world will now look ahead to what the future holds for these two extraordinary athletes.

When considering the Gold Coast, one usually considers activities such as sun, sand, surf, and energetic nightlife. But there is so much beyond the standard package-tour image. So many off-beat locations can give the traveler a different experience. Interestingly, a research paper writing service focused on local tours and expeditions can help travelers discover these lesser-known gems.

These hidden gems are the new places to explore, while these exciting places provide a look beyond the façade for a tourist. Gold Coast offers more than great beaches, jet ski rides, and delightful theme parks. It is a colorful part of the world with many natural scenic, cultural, and historical attractions, but it isn’t very popular among tourists.

In this guide, we will describe seven lesser-known attractions on the Gold Coast that can be a revelation for those looking for different experiences – scenic vistas or historical landmarks, a quiet stay away from the noisy tourist trails.

Currumbin Valley – A Natural Paradise

Currumbin Valley is a superb greenery region only a kilometer from the sea. Cougal Cascades, other waterfalls, and relatively unhurried nature walks through the valley allow a return to an understanding of the ecosystem.

It also boasts several wellness retreats, making it an ideal place for people to relax. Venturing here is like getting into another world different from the city life that one is used to.

Tallebudgera Creek – The Local’s Secret

While beach lovers from other parts of the world throng the famous and beautiful beaches at the Gold Coast, residents know that Tallebudgera Creek is one of the best places to be. This crystal-clear creek provides water perfect for swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, and fishing.

The park that encircles this building offers a large land for picnics and barbecues to make it suitable for a family day out. It has beautiful scenery, a combination of the blue sea and the green vegetation, and it is not very busy with tourists.

Springbrook National Park – Nature’s Wonderland

To the enthusiasts of hiking and discovering the wilderness, the Springbrook National Park should be on the list of places to visit. This World Heritage site is considered one of the most fascinating sites in the region and houses such attractions as the Natural Bridge – a large rock mass from which a waterfall drops.

There are also several tracks for walking, ranging from a short leisurely walk to a strenuous Garmin hike, with the tracks having different scenery—the amount of wildlife and spectacular geographies, which are features of Springbrook Destination, call for more attention.

Burleigh Heads – Beyond the Beach

Burleigh Heads has its famous surf beach, but there is much more to it. This park is located south of the Gold Coast and has walking trails that provide excellent coast views. Besides, one might be lucky to see a koala or bird species.

Besides the art and culture seen in Burleigh, the presence of locally harvested and handmade items in the market adds even more character to the place. This region blends a tropical aesthetic with a strong sense of togetherness in the community. Much like a researchpaperwriter review delving into art and culture publications could highlight, the mix of local craftmanship and community spirit gives it a truly unique atmosphere.

Miami Marketta – Artistic Hub

If you want to taste something of the Gold Coast’s creative side, Miami Marketta should be on your list. This outdoor food market comes with music and artwork every Thursday night and creates a community setting.

With various types of global foods sold in food stalls, live music, and other specialty shops of local artists, Miami Marketta is one of the great places offering a unique and distinctive culture. It is a HUB for cultural excellence that represents and exhibits the spirit of creativity of the Gold Coast.

Tamborine Mountain – The Retreat Haven\

The fascinating Tamborine Mountain can be reached in a very short driving distance from the Gold Coast and offers a quiet climate and beautiful sightseeing. One of the features of the mountain is the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk, which provides a cross of the rainforest with bridges ten meters above the ground.

The area also has many wineries to offer and, therefore, is a perfect place for wine lovers to visit. It appeals to recreational visitors. Enjoy the pleasant villages of Tamborine Mountain and the scenic lookouts it offers.

Kirra – A Combination of Hedonistic Summer Pleasures With Some History

Kirra is also very popular among surfers as the waves there are probably some of the best in the world, and the overall vibe has a non-commercial feel. But situated behind the beach, there is much more to Kirra as it is among the first beaches that offered surfing on the Gold Coast.

Originating back to the 1930s, the Kirra Surf Club is perhaps the best example of Kirra’s surfing tradition. As much as one is guaranteed a good ride at Kirra, it is also an opportunity to learn about the Gold Coast’s surfing history. This region also provides a laid-back atmosphere and beautiful beaches to end the day of travel distressfully

Conclusion

The Gold Coast can be described as a dynamic and ripening region, filled with elements that can be more than what the eye Witnesses. Well-known for its gorgeous beaches and vibrant tourist sites, the area unfolds a rich layer of something that has escaped mass tourists’ radar, from history and architecture to outdoor adventures.

Right from the picturesque, serene Currumbin Valley, which has nature at its absolute best, through to the majestic Springbrook National Park with its splendid forests and waterfall, nature is at its best and awe-inspiring.

However, many more attractions create the Gold Coast’s popularity apart from the scenic views of natural elements. An example of such ambiance is Miami Marketta, which can be considered one of the most diverse and thrilling places in the area due to its ethnic and gourmet offerings and the bands performing at night.

These are testimonies that the Gold Coast is not merely a holiday resort but an active and developing area teeming with outstanding stories yet to be discovered.

Brisbane Fashion Festival 2024 brought the best of Australian fashion to life. Learn about the event’s biggest moment

f you thought Brisbane couldn’t get any more fashionable, think again. The 2024 Brisbane Fashion Festival took over King George Square, turning the heart of the city into a runway extravaganza. From August 25 to August 30, the event celebrated Queensland and Australian fashion in all its glory, and let’s just say, it did not disappoint. The event was not just a feast for the eyes but a major boost for the local economy, proving once again why it’s Queensland’s premier fashion event.

Fashion for the Fans, Record-Breaking Crowds

With more than 5,000 eager fashionistas attending and thousands more tuning in online, this year’s festival was bigger and bolder than ever. The runway shows sold out in record time, as fashion fans flocked to witness the latest Spring/Summer collections in the flesh. For those who couldn’t snag a ticket, BFFTV presented by Hancock Prospecting streamed the shows live, ensuring no one missed out on the fashion action.

It’s not just about the glitz and glamour, though. The festival generated a whopping $5 million in economic benefits for local designers and retailers. That’s right, this fashionable fiesta is as good for the wallet as it is for the wardrobe!!

Olympians and Icons: A Runway to Remember

This year’s festival opened with a bang – quite literally – as the W Brisbane Fashion Show kicked off with world-first launches from iconic brands Driza-Bone and Rossi Boots. But what really got everyone talking were the models. We’re not just talking about any models – we’re talking about Olympic gold, silver, and bronze medallists fresh from the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Swimmers like Shayna Jack, Elijah Winnington, and Jack Cartwright strutted down the runway alongside fellow athletes Mitch Larkin and Brendon Smith. These champions didn’t just bring their medals; they brought a whole new level of star power to the show. The only thing more dazzling than the Olympians were the jewels they wore, courtesy of Margot McKinney and McKinney Welch Jewellery.

Designer Delights: 500 Looks, 50 Designers, Endless Inspiration

Over six nights, more than 50 designers showcased 500 unique looks, giving fashion lovers a glimpse of what’s hot for Spring/Summer ’24. From local talent to national icons and emerging Next-Gen designers, the Brisbane Fashion Festival had something for everyone. Whether you’re into bold colours, daring cuts, or classic silhouettes, there was no shortage of inspiration on the runway.

But the event wasn’t just about established names. The Next Gen Group Show highlighted the future stars of Queensland and Australian fashion, proving that the next big thing might be just around the corner.

Beyond the Runway: Events That Dazzled

Of course, fashion isn’t just about the runway. The Brisbane Fashion Festival also treated attendees to a host of stylish events, from a High Tea and Designer Salon Showing to a panel discussion on the legacy of Coco Chanel in partnership with Queensland Ballet. There was even a Luxe Luncheon for those who like their fashion with a side of fine dining.

The festival wrapped up with a charity walk and panel discussion for ‘Dress to Express’ Beyond DV, reminding everyone that fashion can make a difference in more ways than one.

A Bright Future for Brisbane Fashion

Festival Director Lindsay Bennett couldn’t have been more thrilled with this year’s turnout. “We are humbled and grateful for the public’s invaluable support for the much-loved Festival, which offers an unrivalled platform for top fashion designers and retailers,” he said. With such a strong show of public backing, it’s clear that the Brisbane Fashion Festival is here to stay.

Beyond the glitz, the event also made a significant contribution to local employment, with over 120 model bookings, 300 employees, and more than 250 volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes.

In short, the 2024 Brisbane Fashion Festival wasn’t just a fashion event – it was a celebration of creativity, community, and the bright future of Queensland fashion. So, if you missed out this year, don’t worry – the fashion calendar just got a whole lot more exciting, and Brisbane will be at the centre of it all once again next year.

It’s that exciting time of year again! We’re chatting with Olivia Allen of Western Australia, one of the 28 remarkable and accomplished women from diverse backgrounds vying for the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. The winner is set to be crowned in the Grand Ballroom at Crown Perth on the 5th of September.

So, Olivia, why don’t you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

My name is Olivia, I’m 21 years old and I’m from Perth, Western Australia. I recently graduated from Curtin University with a degree in Communications, specialising in Public Relations and Web Media. I have also worked in Marketing for my University for the past 2 years.

I absolutely love the world of communications because it allows me to connect with all kinds of people, develop strong relationships, and through my job, I’ve been given the opportunity to learn from a lot of strong, inspiring female leaders in the business world. I am very passionate about fashion and the world of creativity, which has also inspired me to take up modelling over the past year. As someone who is very creative and loves the arts, I really enjoy how the modelling industry allows me to work creatively with a team to express myself in so many unique ways!

What inspired you to take the leap and enter Miss Universe Australia?

A couple of years ago, I went through a challenging time with my mental health, and I didn’t feel good about myself or my life. Since then, I have been on an incredible journey of building back love, trust, and resilience within myself. I can truthfully say I don’t think I’ve ever felt so empowered and so full of spark about my life and the direction it’s headed.

I knew the Miss Universe Australia platform would allow me to continue on this journey towards self-empowerment whilst also giving me a platform to share my story with others and talk about the topics I’m so passionate about, particularly mental health. So far, it has done exactly those things. I feel I have grown so much as a person, and I’ve been able to advocate for things that are close to my heart. It has truly been a life-changing experience that I will always be grateful for.

As part of the program, you had the amazing opportunity to travel to Vietnam, courtesy of Vietjet, and stay at the beautiful Hoiana Resort. How was that experience for you?

Getting to travel to Vietnam with VietJet and stay at the incredible Hoiana Resort & Golf was genuinely the experience of a lifetime. The hotel was so gorgeous and had such a warm and homely vibe whilst still being modern and beautifully designed.

Vietnam itself is such a beautiful country, and the people we met were all so friendly and welcomed us into their home with open arms. One of the biggest takeaways from the trip was definitely the amazing generosity and warm spirit of the people.

What would you say was the highlight of the trip?

When I reflect upon the trip, the experience that I think about the most was our visit to Hearing and Beyond, a school that provides education and life skills for children who are deaf and hard of hearing. From the moment we arrived at the school, the children came running over to us with big smiles and warm embraces. They were so excited and so appreciative of our visit.

They seemed to rejoice in how lucky they felt to have us there when in reality, it was us who were the lucky ones. To see how full of joy and cheer these children were despite their circumstances was very inspiring. Connecting with these beautiful kids and being welcomed into their school that day is a moment that I’ll never forget.

Can you describe an experience in Vietnam that pushed you out of your comfort zone?

The entire trip to Vietnam, whilst being such an incredible blessing, was a huge push out of my comfort zone. Travelling outside of the country with a group of people I’d only just met was very scary, especially as I am somewhat of an introvert.

I can say now, having come out the other end, it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I made so many new, incredible connections, grew so much in my confidence, and felt like I really came out of my shell. Getting to embark on journeys that have allowed me to challenge myself and grow into the person I want to become has definitely been a highlight of my Miss Universe Australia journey.

Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Moraya Wilson. Imagine you’re standing on stage with the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. What advice would you give to your younger self?

If I won the Miss Universe Australia title, something that I would tell my younger self is that you are so much stronger and more capable than you ever could have imagined and that you are worthy of the life you dream of. This is something that I would tell any little girl if I had the chance.

When we’re kids, the sky is the limit when it comes to our hopes and dreams. But as we grow older and become more aware of society and our surroundings, we limit ourselves and doubt what we’re capable of achieving. I truly believe that it’s so important that we try our very best not to lose our child-like spark. Once we remember that we are indeed special and that we can achieve anything we set our minds to, that’s when we are able to grow into the person we were always meant to be.

With everyone bringing their own unique flair to the program, what would you say sets you apart from the other contestants?

The other national finalists in this competition are incredibly strong, smart, and inspiring women. I have learnt something unique and valuable from each of them, and I feel so lucky to get to stand alongside them on stage at the National Final in September.

Something that I believe sets me apart, which sounds very cliché, is my heart and my ability to lead with compassion and kindness. I’ve always been someone who feels deeply for others and tries to lend a hand or an understanding ear to anyone who needs one. This quality in me has always empowered me to make strong and meaningful connections and has always allowed me to remain strong in my values as a person. I believe this will continue to guide me down a path that I am proud of for the future.

What’s something about you that people might find surprising?

Something that people often find surprising about me is how culturally diverse my family background is. I’m lucky enough to come from a family of so many different countries and cultures. We have family from Myanmar, Italy, Malta, Argentina, India, the Netherlands, and the list goes on.

The stories from my ancestors and the cultural traditions that have been passed down within my family have really enriched my upbringing and helped shape my identity greatly. Not to mention all of the incredible food at Christmas dinners!

If you could work on any dream project, with no limits on time or resources, what would it be?

If I had unlimited time and resources, something that I would set out to achieve is building my own organisation focused on providing accessible and affordable resources to help others maintain their wellbeing and understand how to navigate their mental health through challenging times.

I believe there are still so many barriers that exist that stop people from being able to talk about their mental health and reach out for help. I would love nothing more than to use my own mental health story to let others know that their feelings are valid and that they aren’t alone in their journey. Having unlimited resources would mean that I could do adequate research, reach out to real professionals, and gather the resources that I would need to allow the organisation to provide the right help to anyone who seeks it.

While unlimited time and resources would definitely help make this project happen a lot faster, I am still determined to work as hard as I possibly can towards it, no matter how challenging it is or how long it takes.

We have a few quick questions to wrap up the interview:

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be and why?

If I could instantly master any skill, it would have to be meditation. I’ve done so much research and heard so many positive associations with the art of meditation and how it can really help us to slow down and stay present in our busy lives. I do try my best to meditate when I can but often find myself getting distracted, which is an important part of the process. However, to be able to master the skill would be amazing!

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

The most adventurous thing I’ve ever done would have to be booking tickets to a ski festival in New Zealand without any ski knowledge or experience. I’ve always been someone who thinks everything through thoroughly and steers away from anything that could be considered dangerous, so this was a big step for me.

I absolutely loved the experience! While I fell down a lot and took a few poor souls down with me, it was so much fun putting myself out of my comfort zone and trying something new. I believe it’s the opportunities that scare us that allow us to grow the most and have the most fun along the way.

Do you have a guilty pleasure that you enjoy?

A guilty pleasure of mine would have to be buying a sweet treat for every occasion. If I’m running errands, I buy a coffee to take on the journey. If I just finished my pilates class, I pop into the bakery next door to grab a pastry. If I’m spending a day at the office, you best believe I grab a little chocolate in my break from the café nearby. I can’t help myself when it comes to sweet treats. I really do believe that it’s the little things (like sweet treats) that make life even sweeter!

If you could have any superpower for a day, what would it be and how would you use it?

A superpower that I would love to have is the ability to teleport. I believe that travelling is such a privilege that not everyone gets to experience in their lifetime, and I feel it’s such an important way to grow, learn new skills, and discover different ways of living. To be able to visit the world in an instant would be incredible, and it would also allow me to visit my family that live around the world. It would be such a blessing to be able to connect with my loved ones from around the globe.

It’s that exciting time of year again! We’re chatting with Olivija Spanovskis from South Australia, one of the 28 remarkable and accomplished women from diverse backgrounds vying for the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. The winner is set to be crowned in the Grand Ballroom at Crown Perth on the 5th of September.

So, Olivija, why don’t you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

Of course! My name is Olivija, and I’m a 24-year-old from South Australia. My name, with its unique spelling, reflects my Latvian heritage and often serves as a great conversation starter. My passion for travel and creative mind have led me to a career in the experiential tourism industry as a Marketing Executive. I’m fortunate to work in a role that allows me to showcase and explore Australia’s most remote and spectacular destinations. My favourite destination (to date) is Ningaloo Reef, part of the remote and magical Coral Coast!

I’d describe myself as compassionate, loyal, kind, and hardworking, with a genuine and down-to-earth nature. I love to stay active through playing netball (as a goal shooter), going on nature walks and runs, and exploring South Australia’s diverse coastline. I also cherish spending time with friends and family, as I believe that enjoying these simple pleasures is crucial for maintaining mental well-being.

What inspired you to take the leap and enter Miss Universe Australia?

I entered Miss Universe Australia to challenge myself and step beyond my comfort zone. I wanted to prove to myself that with the right mindset, anything is possible. This opportunity allows me to connect with inspiring women from across Australia and reflects my commitment to personal growth.

My journey is shaped by overcoming various challenges that I have faced in the modelling industry since I was 14. I want to inspire the younger generation to pursue their dreams with determination, resilience, and perseverance, which I truly believe will lead to success despite any obstacles they may face.

As part of the program, you had the amazing opportunity to travel to Vietnam, courtesy of Vietjet, and stay at the beautiful Hoiana Resort. How was that experience for you?

My trip to Vietnam was truly unforgettable. It was my first visit to this stunning part of the world, and the resort felt like a dream. We were treated to gorgeous panoramic views, delicious Vietnamese food, and incredible entertainment.

Each day offered exciting experiences that pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me a lot about myself. I’m deeply grateful for this amazing opportunity and for the incredible relationships I have formed with finalists from across Australia.

What would you say was the highlight of the trip?

There were so many highlights on this trip, but if I had to choose one, it would be the official swim shoot. I had the final photo shoot of the trip, which only fuelled my anticipation, hearing everyone’s excitement on return. The theme of my shoot was ‘Island’, and the mood board was as if it had come straight from my Pinterest! Despite the weather turning, the talented group of creatives crafted an unforgettable experience, making me feel confident in my own skin.

Can you describe an experience in Vietnam that pushed you out of your comfort zone?

I found the NIDA course to be the most challenging. The course focused on public speaking—an area I’m determined to improve—by addressing the various obstacles we face and providing practical methods to overcome them. By the end of the day-long course, the instructors commented on how much I’d grown, reinforcing the importance I place on continually challenging myself in areas where I feel less comfortable or confident.

Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Moraya Wilson. Imagine you’re standing on stage with the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. What advice would you give to your younger self?

I’d tell my younger self to just go for it. Believe in yourself, and you’re halfway there. Self-belief underpins growth, fuelling your drive, passion, and resilience to persevere. View failure as a stepping stone rather than a setback, and remember that success is shaped by your mindset and determination to pursue your dreams. Surround yourself with inspiring and supportive people, never give up, work hard, and hold yourself accountable. Always stay open to learning and be willing to step out of your comfort zone. Embrace every opportunity with your absolute best effort, striving to become the best version of yourself.

With everyone bringing their own unique flair to the program, what would you say sets you apart from the other contestants?

After meeting the other finalists in Vietnam, it was clear that everyone is incredible in their own unique way. What sets me apart is my resilient mindset and unwavering determination. I view every challenge as an opportunity for growth and approach each situation with my full commitment. I stay true to myself—compassionate, kind, empathetic, and genuinely driven—while thriving on making authentic connections and ensuring others feel valued and appreciated. This, combined with a strong work ethic, empowers me to turn challenges into achievements. Professionally, my career in tourism has given me extensive knowledge of Australia’s most remote and breathtaking locations. I am dedicated to showcasing Australia’s hidden gems on a global scale, embodying the compassion, authenticity, and dedication that reflect our country’s essence. My unique blend of resilience, passion, and expertise fuels my commitment to making a positive and meaningful impact.

What’s something about you that people might find surprising?

I’ve been talking a lot about my focus on the Miss Universe journey over the last few months, but I’ve also been switching my makeup brushes for paint brushes on a very involved renovation project. Although these might sound like very different things, I have found myself applying and developing the same creative, determined, and hard-working characteristics.

If you could work on any dream project, with no limits on time or resources, what would it be?

If I could work on any dream project, I would focus on celebrating and preserving Australia’s natural beauty. My vision is to develop an initiative that not only highlights the stunning landscapes of our environment but also emphasises the importance of their conservation. By leveraging my marketing expertise, I would create impactful campaigns to advocate for sustainable practices and responsible tourism. This project would aim to instil a profound respect for nature and inspire widespread commitment to preserving our natural wonders, ensuring that Australia’s landscapes remain as awe-inspiring as they are today.

We have a few quick questions to wrap up the interview:

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be and why?

If I could instantly master any skill, it would be the Latvian language. This would allow me to deepen my connection with my cultural heritage and surprise my Latvian grandma with a conversation in her native tongue. I imagine the delight on her face as we share that special moment together, bridging generations and celebrating our shared heritage. It would be a meaningful way to honour my roots and further strengthen our bond.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

For me, adventure is all about stepping out of my comfort zone, and participating in the Miss Universe Australia program has taken me further than I ever imagined. It has been an exhilarating journey, expanding my boundaries and fostering incredible personal growth. What makes this experience particularly special is that it was once something I aspired to achieve. Embracing this opportunity has inspired me to pursue goals I once thought were beyond reach.

Do you have a guilty pleasure that you enjoy?

One of my guilty pleasures is a girls’ night, complete with a delicious cheese platter, of course! I cherish those moments where I can unwind and enjoy good company with those close to me.

If you could have any superpower for a day, what would it be and how would you use it?

If I could have any superpower for a day, I would choose the ability to teleport around the world. This would allow me to experience the incredible diversity of our planet and immerse myself in different cultures, deepening my understanding. My goal would be to help create a more unified world where we appreciate and understand each other’s unique strengths, and collaborate to make a better future.

It’s that exciting time of year again! We’re chatting with Renee Mourad of Victoria, one of the 28 remarkable and accomplished women from diverse backgrounds vying for the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. The winner is set to be crowned in the Grand Ballroom at Crown Perth on the 5th of September.

So, Renee, why don’t you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

Born and raised in Melbourne, Victoria, I’m a driven, enthusiastic woman in her 20s who is looking to represent and celebrate beauty and empowerment. I am a dermal clinician who specialises in skin health, education, and advanced cosmetic procedures for clients of all ages. In my spare time, I love attending Pilates and have even found an interest in pursuing my instructor course.

What inspired you to take the leap and enter Miss Universe Australia?

This year, I wanted to embrace the unknown and take every opportunity to work on my personal development and confidence. I wanted to take a risk and embark on a new journey of self-love and share my experiences with others. I am ready to take my future into my own hands and be a leader to inspire and guide young women.

As part of the program, you had the amazing opportunity to travel to Vietnam, courtesy of Vietjet, and stay at the beautiful Hoiana Resort. How was that experience for you?

Stepping out of my comfort zone was rewarding. I was surprised at how well I was able to adjust to a new environment with new faces and connect and bond with others in such a short amount of time. The challenging part of the trip was understanding areas of improvement and focusing on my weaknesses. The trip taught me to enjoy the journey rather than the destination. I faced my fears of public speaking and engaged in social activities such as cooking classes to immerse myself in the culture and embrace the unknown.

What would you say was the highlight of the trip?

The highlight of the trip was learning new skills that I can translate into my personal and professional life. Furthermore, I took away multiple new friendships to cherish with so many beautiful, like-minded individuals.

Can you describe an experience in Vietnam that pushed you out of your comfort zone?

Networking was an experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone. Travelling overseas in a group setting was a new experience to navigate; however, working on my interpersonal skills to better communicate with those around me provided me with the tools to expand my capabilities.

Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Moraya Wilson. Imagine you’re standing on stage with the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Be your authentic self. There is nobody like you out there. Every experience you encounter and every challenge will shape the woman you are. Always make the most of your time with your loved ones around you and remember that it’s okay to ask for help. Time is so precious; use it wisely.

With everyone bringing their own unique flair to the program, what would you say sets you apart from the other contestants?

What sets me apart is that I am myself. I have encountered different hardships and learning curves, which have shaped the woman I am today. I have an empathetic nature to understand how others are feeling by taking my personal experiences and turning them into a conversation for change. A strong characteristic I’m proud to have is drive and determination.

What’s something about you that people might find surprising?

That I suffer from epilepsy, which is a brain disorder that results in seizures.

If you could work on any dream project, with no limits on time or resources, what would it be?

If I had unlimited resources and time, I would work towards achieving peace within the world and improving our climate, so our children and grandchildren have a better environment to live in.

We have a few quick questions to wrap up the interview:

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be and why?

I would love to master the skill of public speaking. Engaging an audience and delivering a powerful message with a few short sentences is a creative talent I wish to master.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

Travelling to Europe for 9 weeks with my best friends. Experiencing different cultures and ticking activities such as skydiving off my bucket list.

Do you have a guilty pleasure that you enjoy?

Rewatching Friends while eating a box of Ferrero Rochers.

If you could have any superpower for a day, what would it be and how would you use it?

The superpower I’d choose is telepathy. I would love to read people’s minds. I would use this to speak with leaders in power and spark controversial conversations to see what areas of change I can make.

Help Renee and the Miss Universe Australia Finalists Make a Difference

It’s that exciting time of year again! We’re chatting with Sarah Said-Smith of New South Wales, one of the 28 remarkable and accomplished women from diverse backgrounds vying for the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. The winner is set to be crowned in the Grand Ballroom at Crown Perth on the 5th of September.

So, Sarah, why don’t you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

My name is Sarah and I was born and raised in Sydney. I’ve been a model for the last nine years, working within Australia and on a number of international placements. Additionally, I work as a social media influencer and content creator across Instagram and TikTok, where I love sharing insights into my life. I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Sydney, majoring in Marketing, and I am looking forward to utilising my degree in future business ventures.

I would describe myself as a strategic creative, deeply connected to creating and expressing myself, while also being kind and good-humoured. I love putting a smile on people’s faces.

What inspired you to take the leap and enter Miss Universe Australia?

Miss Universe Australia is not only a fantastic self-discovery program but also gives young women the ability to step into a role model position and consider how you, as an individual, can contribute to something bigger. For me personally, I’m extremely passionate about body positivity. Throughout my modelling career, I’ve experienced a wide range of comments and pressure about my size and body, all while having friends, family, or followers comment on how much better it would be to have my body. It’s really shown me that it’s paramount to love and accept your body as it is rather than thinking the grass is greener on the other side. It’s a message I’ve been working on sharing through my social media platform, and if I could reach even more young females with the Miss Universe Australia stage—that would be a very rewarding leap to have taken!

As part of the program, you had the amazing opportunity to travel to Vietnam, courtesy of Vietjet, and stay at the beautiful Hoiana Resort. How was that experience for you?

I loved the trip so much that I’m currently writing this response while in Vietnam again! It was truly a fantastic week spent with not only a like-minded and inspiring group of women but also in such a beautiful and cultural place, which was the main reason I decided to return. I appreciated it so deeply that I wanted to see and experience even more of stunning Vietnam… and I may or may not have booked a couple of nights back at Hoiana Resort & Golf too as a treat!

What would you say was the highlight of the trip?

It would be easy to say the beautiful beach, the five-star resort, or the immense amount of delicious food. Though truthfully, I would have to say it was bonding with my fellow Miss Universe Australia contenders. Everyone was so friendly, inspiring, and driven, and I appreciate so much being able to share the experience with them.

Can you describe an experience in Vietnam that pushed you out of your comfort zone?

One of the many great activities organised for us included a day with the renowned National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). We delved into a day course on presenting, brought to us by two welcoming and knowledgeable Australian coaches. Presenting is a path I have always felt strongly about following, and the course was a really fun way to dip my toes in. The day required a lot of trusting each other as classmates to be open and accepting in our improvisation and practice presentation styles—definitely an experience beyond what I do in my daily life, but it was truly very rewarding in proving to myself that I can consistently push those boundaries.

Your next question comes from our current Miss Universe Australia, Moraya Wilson. Imagine you’re standing on stage with the title of Miss Universe Australia 2024. What advice would you give to your younger self?

You underestimate yourself. Don’t. You’re going to grow up in the beautiful culture of Australia; however, being humble is a cornerstone. It’s fantastic that you’ll grow to be down-to-earth, but don’t become so humble that you forget how powerful you are. It’s a lesson that today, even at 27, you’ll still be trying to find the balance of. You can achieve anything, so think big and be confident in your abilities to do anything.

With everyone bringing their own unique flair to the program, what would you say sets you apart from the other contestants?

I’m the perfect person to use the platform to connect with the future generation of young women and inspire them to be more accepting of their appearance and their bodies. Being able to shine a light on the fact that even models they may look up to get negative body commentary can hopefully highlight that it’s essential to be kind and accepting of whatever state your body is in because there is no perfect body!

What’s something about you that people might find surprising?

That I’m half Egyptian! People have always told me I look “exotic” throughout my modelling career, but no one has ever been able to pick it, and my cultural mix is one I’m proud of. I’m seventh generation Australian on my mum’s side (hence half of my last name—Smith), and my father and his whole family migrated from Egypt in the late 60s, coming at first to Bonegilla migrant camp in Victoria.

If you could work on any dream project, with no limits on time or resources, what would it be?

I’m so blessed that I’ve already been able to work on so many dream career moments. However, if I had to dive into something else, I’d love to pursue creating my own business—a journey I’m currently on! I’m starting my shoe clip business, Ornare, which should hopefully be launching in the next couple of months. Stemming from my love of fashion and shoes, but realising how expensive and wasteful buying new shoes for each trend can be, I’m excited to change the game for consumers.

We have a few quick questions to wrap up the interview:

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be and why?

Speaking and understanding Arabic! I’m unfortunately one of the only people in my family who doesn’t know it, and despite my efforts to learn, I’m far from fluent. It’s a beautiful thing to carry on your ethnicity’s language and culture, so I would be proud to have that skill.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

I actually just finished a motorcycle tour through the Ha Giang Loop, in northern Vietnam, and it was a wild adventure. Three days over 350 kilometres through the mountainous region of north Vietnam, all done on the back of a motorcycle driven by an expert local. Not only was it an exceptionally beautiful journey, but I had the best time seeing the smaller villages, driving with my group, and connecting with my funny and skilled driver.

Do you have a guilty pleasure that you enjoy?

I’m a big movie and TV show watcher! I adore a night in on the couch watching something funny or exhilarating with some popcorn or sweets.

If you could have any superpower for a day, what would it be and how would you use it?

Teleportation, so I could use more of my time doing things I love, with the people I love.

Help Sarah and the Miss Universe Australia Finalists Make a Difference
