Featuring the amazing work of Henri Matisse, ‘Matisse: Drawing Life’ is the most comprehensive exhibition of the artists prints and drawings ever mounted. Presented in partnership with theBibliothèque nationale de France, the exhibition includes more than 300 drawings, prints and illustrated books by one of the twentieth century’s greatest artists. Exploring the themes and subjects to which Matisse repeatedly turned throughout his long career, the exhibition provides insights into the artist’s daily drawing practice.

Gold Coast Jeweller John Calleija and Deka Design have collaborated to fit out a grand apartment in Scott Street, Kangaroo Point. As one of the newest luxury residential buildings in Brisbane, Scott Street boasts one apartment per floor with stunning architecture by Jackson Teece Architecture plus refined design details and immaculate amenities.

The design collaboration was a distinct real estate campaign that saw the two creative teams fully furnish a full floor apartment for a fictional client. The result is nothing short of spectacular with furniture designed and selected by Deka Design specifically to fit the apartment.

To celebrate the partnership, the completed apartment was unveiled last night. Over 100 guests gathered to see the finished product and admire jewels designed by Calleija.

The Animal Welfare League of QLD is a wonderful Gold Coast based organisation, re-homing animals and giving them the very best of care. If you’re in the market for a new friend or would like to help an animal in need, head down to one of the locations below to choose a furry bundle of joy.

Pete @ Beenleigh Rehoming Centre, Rossmans Rd.

Pete is your typical, happy go lucky Aussie Cattle cross pup, aged 4 months young! He’s full of life and love to give to his new family and would benefit from ongoing training. He loves his trips to the beach and to play with all the other dogs.

Pete is $350 and comes desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and wormed.

If you would like to meet Pete, please drop by the AWLQ Beenleigh Rehoming Centre on Rossmans Rd, open 7 days 10am – 3pm.
Alternatively you can call staff on (07) 3807 3782 or visit our website: www.awlqld.com.au

Aleaha @ Gold Coast Rehoming Centre, Shelter Rd.

Aleaha is a lovely little cattle dog who especially enjoys playing with toys, dogs and to have human company. After a good run around she’s all too happy to lay at your feet in contented silence. She seems to have not had much training in her previous home and she can get a little over excited and mouthy with people and other dogs, but means well and is generally social and happy. Aleaha will be a loyal and loving mate. She is 9 months old.

Aleaha is $300 and comes desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and wormed.

If you would like to meet Aleaha, please drop by the AWLQ Gold Coast Rehoming Centre on Shelter Rd, open 7 days 10am – 4pm.

Deano @ Gold Coast Rehoming Centre, Shelter Rd.

Deano is a lovely mix of Aussie Kelpie and Cattle dog, aged 6 months young. He would love a new home with another dog to keep him company and active throughout the day. He is suitable with children over the age of 6, but is not so great with cats or other small pets. Deano would make a fantastic gym buddy, enjoying vibrant and stimulating activity daily to ensure he is content!

Deano is $240 and comes desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and wormed.

If you would like to meet Deano, please drop by the AWLQ Gold Coast Rehoming Centre on Shelter Rd, open 7 days 10am – 4pm.

Bonnie has been with us since November 2011 and we would be overjoyed to see her go to her new forever home as soon as possible! She’s quiet and independent and really enjoys her own space. A peaceful new abode would be most fitting for Bonnie as she is one of our Golden Oldies at 9 years of age and likes to cat nap a lot! She’s a lovely girl that would request only a daily head scratch from you, and in return will give unconditional love and companionship.

Bonnie is $70 and comes desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and wormed.

If you would like to meet Bonnie, please drop by the AWLQ Gold Coast Rehoming Centre on Shelter Rd, open 7 days 10am – 4pm.
Alternatively you can call staff on (07) 5509 9000 or visit our website: www.awlqld.com.au

Feel the Groove is an exhibition by Kaleb Smith currently showcased at D’bar gallery in Coolangatta and in conjunction with the Bleach* Surfing the Fringe festival until the end of February. The exhibition is an eclectic mix of photography and mixed media. F . T . G . features some unique artistic pieces like the sculptural clock creation above, aptly named “Emit ni gaz giz 2gidi” or if read backwards, “I dig 2 zig zag in time”.

F . T . G . is an experiment in time and place; an epoch of Kalebs artistic evolution through singular moments and time itself. Kalebs fascination with the idea of travelling in time and love of interpreting life through his camera is a driving force of his creative focus. Inspired by vivid catalysts, Kaleb travels back to junctures in time to transform visual entities with his unique style of artistic perception. “F . T . G . depicts fragments of my imagination infused with elements of fluid movement, sublime dimension and abstract revelations”, Kaleb muses. More often than not, Kaleb finds himself zig zagging into the surf with his camera. See more here, well worth a look.

The Big Day Out has long been a must-visit event for those who wait all year long to witness their favourite Australian and international music acts pumping out their latest tunes on stage. This years huge event also saw the return of the V Energy Green Room, a trace-infused, green themed private dance party brought to punters by the famed energy drink itself.

What can you expect… Wandering around Parklands Showground it was not hard to spot the massive fluro green blow up box that is the V Energy Green Room. As we get closer we can hear the base shuddering through the walls as the first scheduled DJ Silver Sneakerz runs his tracks. I’m excited yet I have no idea what to expect as we approached the line up to enter the room. Promo guys and girls welcome us with paint brushes ladden with glow in the dark green paint, glow sticks which the clip around our wrists and green V visors. We are kitted up and ready to go! As we walk inside the darkened room a swarm of happy punters dance within the tent, bopping to the booming beats and screaming appreciation as the DJ smoothly skips to a new track. In the darkness, sweaty bodies glow with the green armour (paint and glow sticks!) to form a mass of movement combined with an impressive light show. It is like a mini-rave in here and I can’t help but imagine the energy the tent will contain later in the evening. A bar is situated at one side of the tent serving up V Energy Drink with a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic additives and thanks to the restricted number of guests allowed in the tent at any one time, there are no timely line ups to get a beverage. Cheers to that. After 20 minutes on the dance floor I almost forget that I am at The Big Day Out and venture outside to bask in the sunshine and catch one of the acts on the main stage.

The must-visit factor… Unlike anything else at The Big Day Out, the V Energy Green Room is a must-visit for the mini-rave within a music festival factor. The room is also a great opportunity to get a snappy or two with your mates at the V Energy Power Wall; an innovative technology that allows you to capture your festival fun via a touch screen and inbuilt HD camera. All you need to do is add your mobile number to the V Energy Wall and you will receive a photo of you and your friends via a facebook link post event.

Where can you experience it next… If you missed the fun at this years Big Day Out you can catch the V Energy Green Room at Future Music Festival in Brisbane on March 3.
