‘It’s Time To Play’, as launching on Monday September 13th 2010 is Control, a new weekly music night which will feature a wide range of live acts from virtuosic to adsurd in Dublin’s newest venue.

Kicking off the first ever event will be songsmith Ash Amraoui and melodic warblers The Eskies and rock act Touchwood with special guest on the night singer songwriter Fiach who released his debut album ‘So I‘ in March of this year.

Doors are at 8pm and admission is FREE.

Aiken Promotions have forwarded on some handy advice that might save you some time and hassle if heading to Electric Picnic this weekend. Take notes people!

Organisers issue advice today on those travelling to this years Electric Picnic, recommending that where possible people use public transport ,or car pool to help reduce road congestions and carbon emissions.  And for the first time  this year there will be bike stands to accommodate those cycling to the Picnic

Campervan gates open today (Thursday 4.00pm ) and  for the rest attending gates open at 9.00am on Friday 3^rd.

Organisers stress that there will be no access to the festival in advance of 9am as Gardai will be operating an exclusion zone around the until this time, thus there will be access.

WEATHER

The sun is set to be shining on the picnic with temperatures to hit 22 degrees.  So organizers recommend you come prepared for the weather with sun cream!

DRIVING

A Roadwatch have some good news for drivers “With the new M8 Portlaoise to Culahill Motorway opening in April this year, getting to Electric Picnic will be easier than ever, whether you are coming from Munster or Leinster. The bulk of traffic will be on Friday evening and Monday morning, so give yourself lots of time. Don’t forget to designate a driver in advance as you will need to be well rested and under the legal limit to drive home on Monday”

Sergeant Cody of Portlaoise Gardai advises drivers “Switch off your sat nav on the approach to the festival and follow Gardai signs to ensure you get to Electric Picnic safety and as promptly as possible”

BUSES

Bus Eireann will be operating a bus service to Stradbally from Dublin, Cork, and Galway. Tickets can be booked on buseireann.ie.CoachestoConcerts.co.uk will operate a service from Belfast to the festival. For more details on coaches leaving from a town near you and booking go to electricpicnic.ie

TRAIN

Shuttle buses will  operate between Portlaoise train station to Electric Picnic for those wishing to take the train. For train schedule check out www.irishrail.ie

Guns and Roses have pulled the show tonight in The O2, they were due to appear on stage around 9-ish, after 80-90 minutes later and an impatient crowd who after such a long wait greeted the band with a chorus of boo’s and jeers.

They managed to play 4 songs before Axl told the crowd that if one more bottle was thrown they would be stopping the show. Halfway through Welcome to the Jungle he left the stage, massive booing from the crowds it looks like MCD will be forced to refund the show as it’s unlikely anyone is going to be happy with what has happened tonight.

More information as we get it, sounds like a ridiculous situation for anyone attending a gig to have to put up with a prima donna style approach to gig playing that might have been rock and roll and cool in 1991 but right now it’s just pathetic.

Update: 11:27pm – Apparently Axl is back on stage to a half empty O2, not sure if they are playing or not.

Electric Picnic 2010 is nearly here, 2 more sleeps and you’ll be waking up in a tent with a sore head and a smile from ear to ear from a quality night of music. It opens its door at 9am on Friday morning. Camper-vans alone will be granted access on Thursday at 4pm.

The irreverently rocking Sweet Jane will be only the third band to play The Workmans Club when they hit the venue for a rocking show on September 12th.

With ‘Sugar For My Soul‘ taking plaudits from all corners this is another top gig to be caught at Dublins newest venue. They will be playing September 12th with tickets costing €10 and tickets go on sale Friday 3rd September.

There really wasn’t much of a choice here, it’s very hard to ignore the quality of one of the big two and this time around its Electric Picnic’s turn to have the spotlight shone on its musical doors.

With top acts like The Frames, Leftfield, Massive Attack, Mumford and Son’s, Janelle Monae, Jonsi and much, much more are some of the reasons why there was no other choice than to have Electric Picnic as the gig of the week.

Gun’s N Roses (or more accurately Axel Rose + mates) will be in The O2 Wednesday Night, Chief play The Academy 2 as well, Mick Flannery will play Dolan’s Warehouse on Saturday and The Coronas play Empire Music hall that night too.

It’s a quiet week with most acts playing EP.
