GOLF INSTRUCTION – Top Tips for CHIPPING

The shot that requires the most authority is also one of the shortest. Golf instruction chipping without authority can be thin, fat or even shanked shots. You name what can go wrong and it will. You’ll be tapping in your next, when you hit chip shots with authority, you will improve your chances.

A few things lead to poor or bad chipping and a lack of authority, they are fear, lack of strength, and indecision. Think of your club as a horse.If you are’nt confident,it will recognize your concerns and play up. When you are in charge, and show who’s the boss, the results are far more satisfactory.

To ensure authority, the best way is by repetition. Adding the two strength drills will bring more authority to your short game.
Drill 1; Hold the club horizontally in front of your body and cock the wrists. Get some strength and flexibility into your wrists, repeat these simple exercises for 10 repetitions and build up gradually.

Second Drill; Hold your arms outstretched with a weight, anything weighing about a pound or so, hand weights are good, and lift up and down with your wrists.

Increase Wrist Strength
Hitting a shot with any authority can be hard if the golfclub feels heavy in your hand. To ensure you are in control of your swing when chipping, the wrist must be firm, and it must secure the golfclub. Weak wrists are a problem for many beginning women players, but it doesn’t hurt for all golfers to spend some time with these drills.

Be Decisive
You will find any number of articles covering club selection and what type of chip shot for particular situations. Whatever the decision you make, eliminate doubt and convince yourself that it’s the right shot.
Practice repeating the same golf shot over and over again on the practice green.

5 IRON

20 percent flight, 80 percent bounce and roll. ?

8 IRON

33 percent flight, 67 percent bounce and roll

WEDGE

50 percent bounce and 50 percent roll.

Practice chipping with an 8 iron to master the bump and run, then you can start with your wedge.

Here is a great golf instruction chipping tip I learned a while ago, try this. In your normal stance for a chip shot, grab a ball and throw it underarm at your target to gain a feel for how hard you will need to swing the club.
Use this method to imagine how much strength is needed to fly the ball onto the green and roll up to the hole, throw the ball two thirds of the way onto the green back to the cup. This is a great technique to get a feel for the shot.

Golf swing gone bad any tips?

I’m at 18 handicap and something happened the last two weeks and I can’t even hit the ball. I’ve hit the range many times and can’t figure it out. Every time I hit the ball regardless if im hitting dirt the club turns in my hand so the club head is know more closed. I tried bring the club back more inside which has helped some but really frustrated. Have tournament tomorrow and have been shooting in the 110-117 lately. I hurt my back don’t know if that is a problem?

Don’t get too angry with yourself because it will only make things worse. Sometimes when I go through a rough patch in my swing I like to go back to basics and focus on doing all the little things right (stance, grip, etc) and I also slow my swing down to almost like a half or 3 quarter swing and focus on making contact with the ball. If all that doesn’t work and you are still struggling than go to your local driving range and sign up for a golf lesson with your local golf pro and he/she should be able to work out the kinks. BUT I wouldn’t go trying any of these tips while your back hurts because you can alter your swing to make your back more comfortable without even knowing it and you can pick up bad habits
