He is off the life support and breathing again on his own. He has not had any more swelling on his brain and his blood pressure and other numbers have been good all weekend.

Here is a list of injuries Darren sustained as a result of the crash: two broken wrists, a broken shoulder, a broken nasal passage, a broken eye socket, a broken sternum, 5 broken ribs, a damaged spleen, elbow broken in 3 places, large gash over his eye, and damage to his brain in the area that affects speech (extent of damage in this area will be unknown until Darren wakes up).

Darren’s family and the police dept. appreciate all your prayers and support for him during this very critical time.

Thank you,

Sgt.
Recent Reports from Sgt. Reed

11/20/09

3 PM - "Darren is doing better and the doctors are removing him from the life support machine."

2 PM - "Darren is having a better time today but is still unconscious. He remains on the doctor generated life support."

8 AM - "Just got off the phone with Rachael, and Darren had a bad night. His brain was working too hard telling his lungs to breathe and so they chemically paralyzed him so that his brain did not have to over work itself and would allow it time to heal. He is on life support now but it is doctor generated life support and only done so that his brain does not have to work so hard and give it time to heal.

Darren's current situation is that he has had a number of surgeries to repair broken bones - both of his wrists, and his elbow in three places. They have the bleeding stopped in his spleen. He did have some brain swelling yesterday and they had to do a procedure on his head to release the pressure on his brain. He was supposed to have had his shoulder operated on because it too is broken but because of the brain pressure that was being postponed when I last spoke with Rachael."

"Darren was on his personal motorcycle and was en route to Camp Moore up around Amite where he does volunteer work at the old Confederate fort's museum. It was in fact a gravel truck that pulled out in front of Darren."7 AM - "I forgot to mention blood Darren has used 21 units of blood and donated blood is now needed. Thanks Gary, for what you guys are doing."

For complete details, visit this page daily - www.broadmoor-br.org/darren.html
