Event Description: Did you know that serving on nonprofit boards can strengthen your leadership skills and enhance your career?

On Tuesday May 6th, you will have the opportunity to hear from Charlie Baker, CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, about how his participation on nonprofit boards has strengthened his business career. Join us in celebrating the inaugural year of MIT Sloan’s Board Fellows program and learn how you can become a Board Fellow next year!

Board Fellows is an exciting, new program that enables MIT Sloan students to become non-voting members of a nonprofit Board for one year, while completing a 40-hour strategic project with the Board. The program brings valuable business skills to nonprofits, while exposing students to key nonprofit management and strategic issues. MIT Sloan's Board Fellows program commenced in the fall of 2007, with participating nonprofits including the Museum of Science, ACCION, and Fenway High School. We will be accepting applications for the next class of Board Fellows in September.

Non-pizza lunch will be served.

Time: 12-1pm
Location: e51-335

Charles D. Baker, CEO, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care

Under Baker’s leadership, Harvard Pilgrim has experienced consistent financial gains, has finished first in the country for four years in a row on the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) annual ranking of health plan performance on clinical effectiveness and member satisfaction, and for the third year in a row, was featured in a special issue of U.S. News & World Report on the nation’s best health plans.

Prior to joining Harvard Pilgrim, Baker spent eight years in Massachusetts state government, where he served as Secretary of Administration and Finance and Secretary of Health and Human Services under Governors Bill Weld and Paul Cellucci. He won several awards for his work in state service, including the National Governor’s Association Distinguished Service Award.
Event Description: The focus of this year's conference is on "Innovation for Growth" in Latin America. It is aimed at discussing how innovation is a key driver for development in the region and present the perspectives from leaders of the economic, political and academic arenas.

New ways of thinking and doing business are indispensable for Latin America to take advantage of the economic growth it has experienced recently, make it sustainable and achieve world-class competitiveness. We would like this conference to serve as an inspiration to ignite new ideas and disruptive business models in Latin America and other emerging markets. With its long tradition of innovation, MIT and MIT Sloan provide us the appropriate setting and mindset for this.

In addition to this, the MIT Latin Conference aims to enhance public learning by getting firsthand insight from current and distinguished leaders from the region. For more information. see:
