Jennifer Michael Hecht is a poet, intellectual historian, and commentator. She has three award-winning books of poetry, including Who Said (Copper Canyon, 2013) and Funny (Wisconsin, 2005) and four books of history and philosophy, including the bestseller, Doubt (HarperOne, 2003), a history of unbelief; and most recently Stay a history of suicide and an argument against it (Yale, 2013). Her poetry and prose appear in The New Yorker, The New York Times, The New Republic, Poetry, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, Politico, and Vox. Hecht has taught poetry in the MFA programs at the New School and Columbia.

Ron Wallace is the author of over 20 books and chapbooks of poetry, fiction, and criticism, the most recent of which are FOR DEAR LIFE: poems ( University of Pittsburgh Press, 2015) and YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS: poems (Parallel Press, 2015). The founder of the University of Wisconsin Program in Creative Writing, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, and the University of Wisconsin Press Poetry Series, he is currently Felix Pollak Professor of Poetry at The University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Married with two grown daughters and four grandchildren, he divides his time between Madison and a 40-acre farm in Bear Valley, Wisconsin.

Students in the audience will have the chance to win a free book of poetry; all students will also receive a free, illustrated broadside with an excerpt from one of the featured poems.
