<br />Event Description: After talking it over with a few other cachers, we have decided that it is time to try a regular coffee/tea and chat event in the Annapolis Valley. So we are going to test the waters and see if there is enough interest.

We will meet on the third Wednesday of every other month.

Civic Address: New Minas Market, 9064 Commercial Street, New Minas - Upstairs in the Community Room (elevator available)
Date: Wednesday, November 18
Time: 6:30 - 8:00 PM

Come, visit with other cachers and have a coffee, tea or soft drink and a cookie. Bring your questions, stories, geocoin collections, any trackables that you want to move along - even any puzzles or equipment that you have questions about. There may be others there who can help!

We&#39;re looking forward to seeing everybody! Old pro or newbie, Valley resident or &quot;from away.&quot; Come see your old friends or make some new ones. Remember, you can never have too many friends!

Please note - As of September 1, 2009 the good folks at Atlantic Superstore have changed their policy on the free use of their Community Rooms. There is now a fee for the use of the room. There will be a &quot;donation jar&quot; out at this event. A donation is not required but if you wish to contribute to the cost of the event any donation would be appreciated. (I hate to do this, but it has become a matter of simple economics.)

<br />Event Description: Can&#39;t make it to the Caribbean this November?
No problem, come on out and enjoy a hot meal at the Fire Side Dining Room in Catalina.
A real easy way to add another smiley to your collection (and tackle escaperr caches).

This will be a great opportunity to put faces to names, reflect on 2009 and chat about your plans for the new year. You might even make a new geo-buddy! Don&#39;t we all need someone to carry our loaded packs when on a long, strenuous hike?

This event will run from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm. I&#39;m sure there are cod tongues and cheeks on the menu (no thanks!).

In celebration of our first event, we&#39;ll be putting out a 12-cache series titled, &quot;Time to Battle(ship)!&quot;
Come on out, make it a day of caching and end it with a meal surrounded by fellow cachers that have the same geocaching habits (whether it&#39;s a good or bad habit is debatable).
We may be all spread out across the rock, but we won&#39;t let that stop us!

More details will be posted to this page as the date draws near.

PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO ATTEND THIS EVENT ASAP.

&quot; You are the captain of a ship that has been sent out on a mission. You will be armed and ready to take on any enemy ships. This is it. There is no room for error. Your instincts will make all the difference. What will you do to survive?
Captain, are you ready?
Let&#39;s do this.&quot;

<br />Event Description: October 30, 2009 will mark the final cache &quot;find&quot; during my quest over the summer. Why not throw on a little event to mark the occasion.

Some of you may or may not know, but over the course of the last few months I have been on a quest to find and log at least one geocache every single day for six months. I took the six months off on parental leave for the birth of my baby daughter Megan. I figured I could use a daily break from parenthood so this seemed like a great way to get some caching in.

Every single day I have gone somewhere and found at least one cache. I didn&#39;t cheat and find a bunch of caches and stagger the logging of them. It started off easy to find a cache every day but as time passed, it was harder to find ones that were easy to pick up. I had a couple of near misses but I have been firm on getting one every day.

I thought that it would be kind of neat to throw an event that I can attend to make it my 180th cache find in a row.

Event starts at 7pm and goes until whenever. Bring your pool cues if you have one otherwise, bring your smile.

So come on out, get some food, trade stories, swap bugs and coins, and celebrate a cool milestone for Zor.

About this event:
Once again this year there is a World Wide Flash Mob Event
taking place all over the world at the same time.

This event is part of the WWFM - World Wide Flash Mob coordinated events

RAIN OR SNOW OR SHINE OR BOLTS OF LIGHTENING--THE EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE

Who? Geocachers their families and friends
What? A flash mob cache event-no we are not going to flash anyone!!
Where? The above coordinates (Bidgoods Parking Lot)
When? 1430-1445, Saturday, 14 November 2009
Why? Because we can

A Flash Mob Gathering of Geocachers. Only 15 minutes long! You MUST be present and sign the log sheet DURING this time to claim the event. Anyone arriving after this time cannot claim as a find.
Please bring your own pencil or pen.

Flash Mob Cache Event aka A Flash Cache Event

We would like to host a caching event to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.
This event, however, will be quite unique, creative, and we will be joined by thousands over the world.
Flash mobs have gathered for other reasons but we are trying to see how many cachers we can get together at the same time and beat last years record.
The event will last exactly 15 minutes, not one second longer.

Schedule of Events:
IMPORTANT: If you get to the area before 1430hrs mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle tourist! Don&#39;t look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of nowhere so that muggles will not know what is going on.
The event will be tightly organized with a minute-by-minute itinerary (synchronized with the GPS clock, of course).

1415 – Arrive in the area

1430 – A cache container will be placed on the ground at the coordinates to signal the start. Quickly gather around.

1431 - You will be handed an individual log sheet to sign (bring a pen) and drop in a cache container. The sheets will later become the log book.

1435 - A meal per cacher to be distributed (don’t get too excited unless you like candy)
- draw for first to find honors (unactivated coin as well)
- draw for other prizes from the logs

1440 - Group photo

1444 - One minute warning. Prep to leave but don&#39;t &quot;look&quot; like you are prepping.

1445 - Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area as quickly as you gathered. Act like nothing happened.

Meet elsewhere if desired. The log sheet collection box will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace. Although participants are welcome to get together for socializing or whatever after the event, the event will officially be over at 1445.
Smile at the muggles nearby who will wonder &quot;What did I just see? What just happened?&quot;

The restaurant and it&#39;s owners have been very patient with us over the last year, while the serving staff have over looked such Geocacher oddities as twigs falling from our clothing and leaves in our hair. What we consider normal ... most muggles consider odd. Go figure. But hese folks keep letting us back in ... and even have asked us back!!!

Please join us as we celebrate our 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of meeting at this fine Boston/Italian themed restaurant ... somebody could go away happy.

Autumn is truly in the air and it&#39;s time to put summer behind us. Let&#39;s get together a few more times before the snow creeps in and geohybernation sets us all in our lairs. We&#39;re approaching our 1 year anniversary, so maybe we can think of something special for the month of November.

(Sorry we are so late in posting this ... we got too caught up on school and last minute geocaching!!)

This Event is part of the Sixth Bi-Annual World Wide Flash Mob Event (Dozens of events all around the world will be coordinated to happen at the same time).

flash mob (FLASH mawb) n. A large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform something unusual for a brief period of time, and then quickly disperse. --v., --adj.

Come wearing your funkiest, uber cool hat. Prizes will be awarded.

This Event is only 15 MINUTES long!! You MUST be present and drop a piece of paper with your name on it into the ammo can during this time period to claim the event.

At 1:55 p.m., everybody hangs out around the area; just act as if you don&#39;t know each other and nothing is going to happen.

At precisely 2:00 p.m. El Nimrod will place an opened ammo can (log sheet container) at &quot;ground zero&quot;. This is the signal that WWFM-VI is starting. Please bring a log sheet with your with your caching name on it that you can drop into the can.

At exactly 2:03 p.m., El Nimrod will give out kisses ... -- Hershey&#39;s Kisses -- so leave your appetite at home! At this time you should all have your log sheet in the ammo can.

At 2:05 p.m. one (1) name will be drawn from the ammo can. That person will be awarded the FTF honors for the event. There will also be voting for the coolest hat, with a prize awarded. Other &quot;door&quot; prizes may be drawn for if anyone wants to donate an item.

Between 2:07 - 2:12 p.m. we&#39;ll mingle, swap travel bugs and geocoins and brag about our hats.

At 2:12 p.m. we&#39;ll have a group photo taken for posterity.

At 2:15 p.m. the event is over and we&#39;ll all immediately leave the area.

Following this Event, we will be holding another Event at 2:30 p.m. Make an afternoon of it!

Come to the Island Stone Pub at the Kensington Train Station, a National Historic Site, for a snack and a chance to try your hand at &quot;Geo-Trivia&quot; -- how much do you know about geocaching in general, and Island geocaching in particular? Prizes for &quot;Mr (or Ms) Know-it-All&quot;. Go solo or form a team and strut your stuff.

Following the nearby &quot;Kensington: WWFM-VI&quot; Event (GC1Z38H), come on out and socialize with fellow Island cachers over a battle of wits (yes, some cachers will be better armed than others).

Who knows, there might even be a new cache (and FTF) up for grabs for attendees.

Come on out for an afternoon game of Laser Tag and vie for the Island&#39;s first annual Geocacher&#39;s &quot;Rambo Award&quot;. Unlike paint ball, Laser Tag is totally harmless, painless, and you&#39;re always playing in the game. Be a rogue and go solo, or form commando teams and challenge the others for supremacy of the woods.

Don&#39;t want to play Rambo? No biggie. Come out and cheer on your team, and participate in the cammo cache workshop after the battle.

Besides a lively game of Laser Tag, we&#39;ll be holding a workshop on cache cammo techniques. Come share your stories about amazing cammos you&#39;ve found, or techniques you&#39;ve seen. There IS life (and frustration) beyond cammo duct tape and painted nanos. Recall that first nano-in-a-pine cone hide; hollowed-out rocks, logs, tree limbs, and bolts; painted magnetic sheets on mailboxes; fake grass and flowers; bottle cap-topped tubes in the ground; and so forth. Share the stories, learn from others, and maybe avoid a DNF or two on your next cache raid.

NOTE:

There is a fee of $16.50 (1 hour) for those playing Laser Tag (GST included). Save $2.00 per person if we have 10 or more participants. Game starts precisely at 1:30 p.m., workshop to follow.

There is NO COST to attend the Event and workshop.

Please log a note if you are planning on attending.

3:00pm to 5:00pm

When the trees their summer splendor
Change to raiment red and gold,
When the summer moon turns mellow,
And the nights are getting cold;
When the squirrels hide their acorns,
And the woodchucks disappear;
Then we know that it is autumn,
Loveliest season of the year.

 - Carol L. Riser, Autumn

Autumn is upon us and what has the harvest brought? Come share the bounty of geocoins that you have added to your collections in the past year. Show off your displays or come to see what others have to show.

Come down for the afternoon and share a cup of cider with fellow cachers. Discover some coins and add some icons to your profile. Do some buying and trading, enjoy the good company.

There will be tables set up to allow people to show what they have brought.

The schedule for the afternoon will be fairly relaxed:

3:00pm Event begins, registration and socializing
3:30pm Regular geocoins go on sale, silent auction begins
4:00pm Event geocoin goes on sale
4:20pm End of silent auction of geocoins
4:30pm Drawing for door prizes
5:00pm Clean-up and leave

The event will be held in Room C of the Keshen Goodman Public Library in Clayton Park. There is wireless internet available but you must have a library card to access the network.

If you don&#39;t have any geocoins, this may be your chance to start collecting! There will be coins available for purchase, a few will be in the door prizes, and there will be others involved in a silent auction.

Sorry, nothing witty or creative this time, got a bit of a headache. Here&#39;s a thought: If we post pics of these events they end up on a page for an archived event. What if I create a group on Facebook called &quot;Breakfast at Cherry&quot; for us to post pics and info?

<br />Event Description: Date: 19 September 2009 (Saturday)

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Location: Cole&#39;s Family Restaurant, Kensington, PEI

Purpose: Social Fun

&quot;It&#39;s Not About the Numbers, It&#39;s All About the ICONS!&quot;

A morning to get together and discuss geocoins, add some new icons to your profile, do some swapping, and enjoy good company over breakfast or coffee. This event is open to everyone, so even if you don&#39;t collect geocoins, come out and spend breakfast hanging out and sharing geocaching stories with fellow Island cachers.

This event will be a chance to show off your coin collection, or perhaps to start one. Bring your activated geocoins (and travel bugs) as well if you are into trading and discovering tracking numbers, and add to your &quot;icon list&quot;.

A special commemorative &quot;10th Anniversary of Geocaching in Canada&quot; geocoin designed and donated by geocacher eastriver will be up for grabs as a door prize!

A “Breakfast Cache Event” – a good opportunity to get together and “shoot the waffle” (or eat one!).

Afterwards, the day is still young and ripe for heading out hunting a dozen new cache placements in the area.

Whether you’re a glass half full kind of cacher who sees every cache placement as perfect and full of booty and bling, or half empty and out to stick you with a at every chance, this Event will have something for you – commraderie, networking, and a chance to line up a caching buddy for the day .

Pass the syrup!

<br />Event Description: After talking it over with a few other cachers, we have decided that it is time to try a regular coffee/tea and chat event in the Annapolis Valley. So we are going to test the waters and see if there is enough interest.

We will meet on the third Wednesday of every other month for the remainder of the year.
Civic
Address: New Minas Market, 9064 Commercial Street, New Minas - Upstairs in the Community Room (elevator available)
Date: Wednesday, September 16
Time: 6:30 - 8:00 PM

Come, visit with other cachers and have a coffee, tea or soft drink and a cookie. Bring your questions, stories, geocoin collections, any trackables that you want to move along - even any puzzles or equipment that you have questions about. There may be others there who can help!

Tentative dates for the remainder of the year, same time, same place:

November 18

We&#39;re looking forward to seeing everybody! Old pro or newbie, Valley resident or &quot;from away.&quot; Come see your old friends or make some new ones. Remember, you can never have too many friends!

Please note - As of September 1 the good folks at Atlantic Superstore have changed their policy on the free use of their Community Rooms. There is now a fee for the use of the room. There will be a &quot;donation jar&quot; out at this event. A donation is not required but if you wish to contribute to the cost of the event any donation would be appreciated. (I hate to do this, but it has become a matter of simple economics.)

<br />Event Description: Date: 19 September 2009 (Saturday)

Time: 10:00 a.m. - Noon

Place: Alysha Toombs Memorial Park, Kensington, PEI

Purpose: Social Fun &amp; Caching Skills Event

August 2009 saw the Island play host to Canada&#39;s finest athletes during the Canada Summer Games. Before the snow flies and the 2010 Winter Olympics get underway, we present the &quot;Island Geocache Olympics&quot;, paying tribute to the skills and attributes necessary to bring home the and grab those FTFs!

The &quot;Island Geocache Olympics&quot; are a celebration and test of the skills needed for caching.

Come on out and &quot;Go for the Gold&quot; in the &quot;geo-pentathalon&quot;. Play to your strengths and compete in your 5 best categories from the following list of Events:

(1) Ammo Can Toss

Like discus or shot put, but without the distance. It&#39;s all about accuracy.

(2) Nano Log Roll

A speed event, roll up the nano log and get it in the nano container. Who will be dubbed, &quot;the Island&#39;s fastest fingers&quot;?

(3) GPSr Figure &quot;Skating&quot;

Each contestant has 5 minutes to create a figure on their track log. Judges determine the most creative.

(4) Multi-&quot;Cache&quot; Run

Kinda like a solo relay race. A 4-stage run where each contestant must correctly enter the next stage in their GPSr. Speed counts, but all coordinates must be correctly stored in GPSr in order to win.

(5) Skirt-Lifter Dash

An essential skill for alluding parking lot muggles at the old LPC (&quot;lamp post cache&quot;). Contestants will run to the skirt, lift it, find the micro, sign and date the log, return the micro and skirt, and run back.

(6) ROT13 Decryption

Decrypt a ROT13 encrypted hint (the www.geocaching.com HINT &quot;decryption key&quot;) without the aid of the key. You know the one! A=N etc, where &quot;gerr&quot; equals &quot;tree&quot;.

(7) Cache-Vault

Not for the vertically challenged, this &quot;can you reach it?&quot; Event combines speed and athleticism in bringing home the smilie!

Points will be awarded for each of the 5 events you participate in on the following basis:

3 points Gold (first place)
2 points Silver (second place)
1 point Bronze (third place)

Best cumulative point total for the 5 chosen events will determine who makes the podium.

There&#39;s also a large number of nearby caches to be grabbed while in the area, so come for the Olympics and stay for the cache!

STRONGER -- FASTER -- HIGHER or as it applies to Island caching, &quot;strength&quot; for bushwacking and fending off mosquitos, &quot;speed&quot; for beating El Nimrod, Nook&amp;Crannie and peiguy to FTFs, and &quot;reach&quot; for grabbing &quot;Muggle Hut&quot; caches and escaperr&#39;s tree-climb hides!

<br />Event Status: confirmed
<br />Event Description: The World Wide Flash Mob Caching Event. WWFM VI. November 14, 2009

The Basic Idea...

A &quot;Flash Mob&quot; Gathering of Geocachers. Only 15 minutes long! You MUST be present to drop of your sheet of paper with geocaching name DURING this time to claim the event.

Please BYOPP! (Bring your own Pen and Paper)

The World Wide Flash Mob Event: Dozens of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to geocaching.

The event will last EXACTLY 15 minutes, not one second longer.

The event will begin precisely at 02:00 pm on November 14, 2009. The event will be held at the bandstand (Gazebo) near 8th Hussars Sports Center. This is in an open public space with lots of parking nearby.

The Plan...

At exactly 02:00pm I will entre the gazebo and sound a horn. At this point, all geocachers will converge, seeming to come out of &quot;nowhere&quot;.

Basic Idea...

1:45 - 1:59
Participants: Mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle. Don&#39;t look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of no-where... Stay in your geocaching mobile if need be,

02:00

I will walk to ground zero and sound a horn. This is the signal that the event has begun!

Please do not be in this area until this time.

Participants: Please have a paper with your geocaching name to place in a collection box

02:00 - 02:06

Mingle.... Share stories.... Brag... Trade coins and travel bugs. Take pictures... submit names...Snacks will also be handed out... Make sure to CITO all garbage.

02:08

Prize Raffle Drawing - including FTF honors
(There will be a bell to be rung... First to do so at the beginning of the event gets FTF...Run)

02:12

A picture will be taken

02:14

Prep to leave, but don&#39;t &quot;look&quot; like you are prepping. (You might want to &quot;secretly&quot; organize where you will re-form after dispersal.)

02:15 EXACTLY

LEAVE the area (right at 02:15 in a disorderly manner / different directions) and meet elsewhere if desired.

Only those participants whose names appear on papers placed into collection box may log the event.

Tell your friends and help promote the event!

Hopefully there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder &quot; What did I just see? What just happened?&quot; (That&#39;s part of the fun!)

Thank you for your cooperation...

<br />Event Description: Islander1988&#39;s 999 Flash Mob Geocoin Release
8:51p.m. - 9:09p.m.

There can never be enough geocoins travelling around caches for people to find!

After the popularity of last year&#39;s Flash Mob Geocoin Release on 08/08/08, I decided to celebrate the date 09/09/09 with another one. Since there is already an evening event happening in Lower Sackville, I decided to hold this one closer to my current location for local cachers who don&#39;t plan to drive to the city on a work night.

At the event there&#39;ll be a bunch of newly activated geocoins released, and feel free to bring some coins/TBs of your own to release too. The flash mob will begin at 9 minutes to 9p.m., and conclude at 9 minutes after with a group picture. Like all flash mob events, things will move quickly! Some door prizes will be given away (though since we&#39;re outside, we won&#39;t have a door... maybe &quot;out&quot;door prizes?), and event buttons will be available for the taking.

So, show up, say hello to some other cachers, and maybe you&#39;ll be one of the people to grab a newly released coin and move it to a cache.
How the Distribution will Work

I will be giving out pieces of paper for people to sign and return to me, which will act as both your log book entry and your ticket for the door prizes. I have the coins to be released, so if you would like to pick up one of them to move to a cache, please tell me when you pass back your log sheet. You will need to give me a log sheet in order to pick up a coin. From there, what cache you move it to is up to you.

Hope to see some of the locals there!

Time: 7:00 - 9:09 p.m.

Place: Charlottetown Mall (Food Court), Charlottetown, PEI

Why?: Social Fun

Come out and celebrate a &quot;night of 9&#39;s&quot; -- 09/09/09 09:09! Tonight&#39;s the last of the single digits for quite a while, 1001 years to be precise. If you miss this event you&#39;ll have to wait a hundred years for the next 09/09/09, so come out and celebrate!

For a &quot;trivial pursuit&quot;, think of how many significant things involve the number &quot;9&quot;. Prize awarded for the following &quot;nifty nine&quot; geo-question: (1) What&#39;s the 9th geocache placed on the Island that&#39;s still active?

So, come out and grab a coffee and some face-time with fellow Island cachers. Swap caching tales, trade travel bugs and geocoins, and talk about caching buddies who are too lazy to show up! New to the sport? Come out and ask questions. Got puzzle-cache problems? Bring your questions. Plagued by DNFs? Ask for hints. Thinking of putting out a new cache or series? Brag about it and pique some interest. But, most of all, come out and be a part of &quot;Island Caching&quot;.

A special commemorative &quot;10th Anniversary of Geocaching in Canada&quot; geocoin will be up for grabs as a special door prize.
