There is no denying that bullying in, and out of, school is a really big problem that has only been aggravated by the existence of social networks like Facebook but it was this specific problem that the movie Bully is trying to address by raising awareness about the cost of bullying.

The movie is being distributed by The Weinstein Company and one of the things that Harvey Weinstein wanted to do with the movie was show it in schools where it is needed the most. The problem is that the Motion Picture Association of America which assigns the ratings to any movie that decided what age groups can see what movie. In the case of Bully the MPAA gave it a ‘R’ rating which effectively stops anyone under the age of 18 from being able to see the movie.

Needless to say Weinstein’s reaction was to appeal the decision and try to get at least a PG-13 rating which would have allowed him to show the movie in high schools at least. However the MPAA stuck with its original rating and that has pissed Harvey Weinstein right off.

In fact he is so mad he is threaten to pull his company out of the MPAA organization – “The Weinstein Company is considering a leave of absence from the MPAA for the foreseeable future.”

The press release that went out goes on to say in part:

“With school-age children of my own, I know this is a crucial issue and school districts across the U.S. have responded in kind. The Cincinnati school district signed on to bus 40,000 of their students to the movie – but because the appeals board retained the R rating, the school district will have to cancel those plans.”

“I personally am going to ask celebrities and personalities worldwide, from Lady Gaga (who has a foundation of her own) to the Duchess of Cambridge (who was a victim of bullying and donated wedding proceeds) to First Lady Michelle Obama (whose foundation has reached out to us as well), to take a stand with me in eradicating bullying and getting the youth into see this movie without restriction.”

Now I didn’t realize that the movie companies like The Weinstein Group could even do that but you know what – Do It Harvey. Seriously if you believe that strongly that this movie should be seen by all the children; and their parents, that want to see it then maybe the time has come for someone to stand up to the MPAA, and for better cause as well.

Which consider the people Harvey has in his corner on this one – you know, the First Lady of the United States – maybe he could actually win this one somehow.

Forget shoes that only tell you how far you’ve run on your iPhone or the self-lacing shoe straight out of the movie Back to the Future, the newest shoes from Nike let you know how far your vertical has risen or fallen over time along with other metrics that show off your athletic abilities.

Nike on Wednesday showed off its new line of Nike+ footwear and the new shoes keep a tab on how far you travel throughout the day, how many steps you’ve taken and even how high you jump based on vertical height.

That information is then sent to web apps, iPhone and iPod devices, allowing users to track their data on a continual basis.

The Nike+ line of shoes will drop on June 29 in select US markets.

Nike has broken the shoes into two categories: training and basketball with LeBron James sponsoring the HyperDunk+ this summer.

The new line of shoes could be the perfect option for coaches who figure out how to optimized statistics from the shoes. For example a basketball coach can use the Nike+ shoe stats to determine which players are the fastest and which players play best at any point during a given game.

The Nike+ shoes even provide a “showcase” mode which turns an athletes performance into a viewable video.

The new tech friendly shoes in the training category features well-known athletes performing workout routines that can be tailored for a wearers needs.

John Edwards and Rielle Hunter’s sex tape won’t see the light of day after their long-running court battle was settled out of court on Thursday with an agreement that the tape will be destroyed.

News of the settlement was released by Hunter’s spokesperson who said Hunter and former Edwards’ aide Andrew Young and his wife Cheri agreed to end the two year court-battle and part of that settlement involved the guaranteed destruction of the sex tape.

Under terms of the settlement all copies of the tape must be destroyed within 30 days and if more copies surface they must also be destroyed immediately.

Another part of the settlement found that intimate photos involved in the court case belong to Rielle Hunter and her daughter and should therefore be turned over to Ms. Hunter as soon as possible.

While the Youngs are happy to claim no liability in the case a spokeswoman for Hunter said:

”Ms. Hunter is very pleased.  She won.”

The court case began in January 2010 when Rielle Hunter claimed that the Youngs stole “personal and private” photos and a videotape form her, a video that became known in court filings as the “Edwards sex tape.”

In a public statement of their own the Youngs revealed:

“We are extremely pleased to have this case resolved. There were no ‘winners’ as such, in that each side had returned back to it that which it believed was its own property, although it was mutually agreed that certain materials should, per the court’s order, be destroyed.”

The Youngs statement added:

“Notably, notwithstanding the outlandish efforts of Ms. Hunter’s legal counsel to try to paint Mr. and Mrs. Young as liars and thieves, nothing could be further from the truth — as is unequivocally evidenced by this settlement agreement.”

The photo in question portrays the late R&B singer Whitney Houston’s corpse laying in a gold casket with the following headline: “Whitney: The Last Photo!”  The late singer, known for hits like Heartbreak Hotel, died her Beverly Hills hotel room at the age of 48.

In response to Mary Beth’s comment, The Washington Post clearly stated that “a line had been crossed.”

As beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I believe Mary Beth’s perspective to be legitimate and that of her own regardless of whether or not I agree with her.  What do you think about Mary Beth’s comment?

National Enquirer Publisher Calls Whitney Houston’s Corpse Photo Beautiful is a post from: The Inquisitr

It’s been strongly suggested in the past that EA intends to release a follow-up to 2010′s Medal of Honor reboot, and now it looks like it’s official.

Game Informer managed to pick up an early copy of the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, and in it EA and developer Danger Close reveal that the follow-up, titled Medal of Honor: Warfighter, is set to release this October.

Not much is known about Medal of Honor: Warfighter other than the fact that it will, like just about every other EA game lately, run on DICE’s shiny ‘Frostbite 2.0′ engine, and that the story will once again follow Tier 1 Operators.

The only other bit of news to come out of the reveal was that this time around, development on the multiplayer mode is being handled in-house this time around. You may recall that for Medal of Honor 2010, development on the multiplayer mode was handled by DICE.

The original Medal of Honor saw a release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, so it’s likely that Warfighter will be available on all three platforms as well.

Stargazers looking at the Western sky are in for a treat on Saturday and Sunday night when Venus, Jupiter and the Earth’s crescent moon align in a spectacular night sky.

Venus and Jupiter are already lined up in the western sky with the planets 20 degrees apart as of mid-February however that gap will narrow to just 10 degrees by month’s end.

By Saturday night the crescent moon will join in for a triple combination that will be viewable from around the world at twilight.

Observers will also notice that Venus is closer to the moon on Saturday while Jupiter will be closer to the Earth’s moon on Sunday.

While the moon will disappear from that alignment after Sunday night both Venus and Jupiter will continue to move closer to one another until they are just 3 degrees apart at their closest point in mid-March.

Space.com offers a sky map that shows how the celestial triple play will display to stargazers over the weekend.

As CBS News points out:

“In addition, for anyone observing both nights, it will be a spectacular demonstration of just how far the moon moves in a single night. We don’t often have two such brilliant mileposts along the moon’s path.”

Although a diet higher in fruits and veggies has been linked with lower stroke risk in the past, new data indicates that a diet higher in citrus- oranges and grapefruits in particular- may reduce risk of ischemic stroke.

The study compiled data culled from nearly 70,000 women across 14 years, and researchers looked into the relationship between six flavonoids- flavanones, anthocyanins, flavan-3-ols, flavonoid polymers, flavonols and flavones and the risk of ischemic, hemorrhagic and total stroke. What they ultimately found was that women who consumed higher quantities of citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits had a 19% lower risk of blood clot-related strokes.

The study was published in the journal Stroke and funded by the US National Institutes of Health, and a press release on the data read in part:

“Studies have shown higher fruit, vegetable and specifically vitamin C intake is associated with reduced stroke risk,” said Aedín Cassidy, Ph.D., the study’s lead author and professor of nutrition at Norwich Medical School in the University of East Anglia in Norwich, United Kingdom.

“Flavonoids are thought to provide some of that protection through several mechanisms, including improved blood vessel function and an anti-inflammatory effect.”

University of Miami epidemiologist Hannah Gardener was not involved in the research, but she commented on the study, saying:

“There are several studies that have shown that greater consumption of fruits and vegetables has been linked with reduced risk of stroke… It underscores the importance of fruit and vegetable intake… [further, it] provides evidence that citrus fruits in particular may be important in terms of reducing stroke risk.”

New dietary guidelines updated in 2011 indicate that fully half of daily food intake should be comprised of fruits and vegetables.

Say what you want about the animal rights group PETA at least they have not went to the extreme love of animals that Meredith Lowell, 27, attempted to achieve. Meredith is accused of attempting to hire a hitman to kill a random fur-wearing member of the public.

To find a fur-hating hitman Lowell is alleged to have created a fake Facebook profile which she then used to solicit a potential hitman.

In her rather morbid Facebook request Lowell said she wanted the fur wearing person to be either shot or knifed to death at a local library so she could watch the murder take place in public.

After the random victim was killed Meredith Lowell then planned to pass out animal cruelty pamphlets to people who witnessed the kill.

Meredith was caught after an undercover FBI agent contacted her for more information. Meredith then emailed the following instructions to the FBI agent:

“Bring a sharp knife that is at least 4 inches long, it should be sharp enough to stab someone with and/or to slit their throat to kill them.”

The crazy animal rights activist then added that the victim should be at least 12-years-old but preferably 14 or older. Meredith then added that she wanted them “dead in less than 2 minutes (under 2 minutes or 1 minute or less would be better.)”

Shortly after the email was sent the FBI agent jumped into action and Meredith Lowell was arrested on Tuesday.

Once again, the now infamous “Bridge to Nowhere” has sparked controversy after former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney took a stab at Rick Santorum during Wednesday’s Republican presidential debate in which Mitt Romney said:

For those of you who somehow managed to miss all prior references to the bridge to nowhere during the 2008 presidential race, the “bridge to nowhere” refers to a never-built bridge intended to connect Ketchikan, Alaska to a small island airport that’s currently accessible by ferry. The bridge to nowhere, which does not actually exist, has been wielded as a political weapon with which political rivals have accused one another of supporting frivolous government spending as the bridge to nowhere was intended to cost hundreds of millions of dollars and is essentially an unnecessary luxury funded by funds provided by Congress otherwise known as earmarks.

National League MVP Ryan Braun won’t have to sit out the first 50 games of the 2012 MLB season after the Milwaukee Brewers outfielder successfully appealed his positive drug test.

Braun was originally called out on his positive test after elevated testosterone levels were found in his drug test sample during the 2011 MLB playoffs.

After a debate circled around whether or not Braun should be able to keep his MVP award the outfielder continued to proclaim his innocence and moved forward with the appeal process which focused on a lack of security and protocols put into place to ensure that player urine sample’s are properly monitored and tested.

According to Yahoo Sports:

The collector – who is jointly hired by MLB and the players’ union – was to send the sample to an independent laboratory by FedEx. Finding the FedEx office closed, the collector stored the sample, which had been sealed, bagged and boxed and carried Braun’s signature, in his Milwaukee-area home, per usual protocol. The collector returned to FedEx on Monday morning.

According to the source, Das questioned the security of the sample during the two days it remained in Milwaukee, though there were no signs the package had been tampered with.

MLB is considering challenging Das’ decision through litigation.

Before his failed drug test the Milwaukee Brewers outfielder had passed 25 successful drug tests over his career and three in the same year that led up to the alleged failed test.

After the ruling was handed down Ryan Braun said of the litigators final ruling:

“The first step in restoring my good name and reputation. We were able to get through this because I am innocent and the truth is on our side.”

Looks like someone’s getting busy, and that someone is actor heartthrob Zac Efron! The actor was scene posing on the red carpet of the children’s film The Lorax and when he lifted his arm up the unmistakable foil wrapped dropped to the floor from his pocket.

Visibly embarrassed Zac quickly picked the condom up and recovered by putting on his “cool guy” shades and  looking around confused before covering his mouth and stumbling around with a mischevious smile on his face.  The question is, why was Efron with a condom at a kid’s premiere? Why was it in his pocket, instead of a more reasonable place, say, his wallet.

So far there aren’t any reports as to who the person Zac was looking to hook up with, or if she was even at the premiere. As recently reported, Zac was seen on Ellen singing with blonde haired country star Taylor Swift. Perhaps the duo are making sweet music out of the studio booth as well? If that’s so then Zac better watch out before he winds up the new obsession of her songs.

The last serious relationship for Zac Efron was with High School Musical co-star Vanessa Hudgens before they broke up at 2010.

Thanks to a vote of 25-22 the Maryland Senate was successful on Thursday in gathering the final approval needed for the Civil Marriage Protection Act to be signed into law by Gov. Martin O’Malley.

After the act is passed Maryland will potentially become the eighth state to approve marriage for gay couples and the fourth state to reach such consensus in the last 12 months.

Senate approval for the gay rights act comes after years of failed attempts in the state. Gay activists have argued for years that gay marriage in the state would provide them with equal access to marriage rights including hundreds of protections set forth by the state’s union.

O’Malley’s spokesman said the governor would sign the act into law “within a week.”

While the act may be signed by the Governor there’s still a chance that it will not be fully implemented anytime soon as opponents to the measure have promised to petition for a referendum which would require Maryland voters to decide in November if the Civil Marriage Protection Act should be put into law. A recent poll shows a near 50/50 split over the issue by Maryland voters.

Even if the act does not pass during a November referendum vote the bills approval by the State Senate marks a vast improvement since the 2010 election cycle. Before that time the act stalled at a key Senate committee which kept the bill off the floor.

Following failed attempts in the past Gov. Martin O’Malley put the full weight of his office into the battle, backing the bill while working with House Democratic leaders to gain the final votes needed to pass the bill by a single vote last Friday.

Big news for “State of Georgia” star Jason Rogel, as he’s just been cast in a ABC Family Holiday Movie  The Mistle-Tones, starring alongside Tori Spelling and Tia Mowry.

Rogel previously had a reoccurring role on “State of Georgia” before nabbing this role. However, this hasn’t been his first stint at ABC, Jason has been on Man Up! as Henry. This time around the actor is set to play  Larry, Holly’s (Mowry) office friend and a member of her vocal group , The Mistle-Tones. Jonathan Patrick Moore (Savages, The L.A. Complex), Reginald VelJohnson (Family Matters) and Tommy Townsend (Lone Star) also co-star.

The ABC family film is described as the following: ”Holly (Mowry), blessed with an amazing singing voice, is all set to audition for the newly vacated spot in a legendary local Christmas group which was founded by her late mother years ago. Shocked and upset when the slot goes to the barely talented best friend of the group’s leader, Marci (Spelling), Holly sets out to create her own musical group, The Mistle-Tones. After challenging their rivals to a sing-off on Christmas Eve, Holly finds herself on a journey to the real meaning of Christmas — with some new friends and a new love thrown in for good measure.”

Right now the film is shooting at Salt Lake City, and will be up for the 25 Days of Christmas special starting in December.

Yesterday I told you about the post by Peter Sunde over at TorrentFreak that basically suggested that the entertainment industry was nothing more than a Mafia with the intent to manipulate court cases in order to put the telco on the defensive so that they could go after them for “protection money”.

Now today we have this little gem from indie filmmaker Helen Ferreira who says that entertainment industry lobbying and trade organizations like the MPAA or the RIAA are just some industry flunkies more interested in censorship than with actually protecting and standing up for the content creator.

The post, which is over on TorrentFreak, says that while she isn’t alone in her opinion Helen is one of the most vocal opponents of the very trade organizations that say they are there to protect her interests.

According to her, pirates are not the threat – it’s the MPAA that’s killing creative filmmaking through its censorship regime.

“What I see when I examine the MPAA is not a friendly guardian of feature film directors’ rights, even at the studio level. Instead, I see a very large lobby that began as a Christian right-wing organization instituted to keep minorities off motion picture screens, promote racism and homophobia, and restrict creative freedom in America,” she writes.

To back up her assertion Helen provides a few of the more trivial censorship rules imposed on them by the MPAA

• The Motion Picture Association of America has never written me a paycheck for anything. They’re not backing my picture. These are not nice guys. They are not in this business to help filmmakers at all.
• They’re censors waiting to pounce my film and yours with an NC-17 rating for violence or for showing two consenting adults laughing while enjoying sex (rape however is okay), while curiously no one censors the news media for showing [..] eight-year-olds Paris Hilton’s latest upskirt with very little pixellated out
• Isn’t that pauseworthy? If there’s no censors for the news, why for dramatic movies and television?

As far as Ferreira is concerned she’ll take the pirates over the MPAA anyday and thank them while saying “I hope you enjoyed it.”

Exciting news for “Undercovers” star Carter MacIntyre with the news that the actor got a series regular role on the Lifetime hit “Drop Dead Diva”. The actor will play Jane’s (Brooke Elliott) new guardian angel after her regular guardian angel, Fred (Ben Feldman), fled in the season 3 finale when he was told his girlfriend and mutual friend of Jane’s,Stacy (April Bowlby) was seen kissing Grayson (Jackson Hurst), Jane’s fiance.

Jane’s sexy new guardian angel is described as the polar opposite of fun loving, innocent, and people pleaser Fred. He’s described as happy to be on earth, having a real zest for life, doesn’t pull any punches with Jane’s behavior when steps out of bounds, devilish in his pursuits in women, food and expensive things. He doesn’t care how Jane sees him or if he rubs her the wrong way and takes his job very seriously, not making any room for friends.

If you recognize MacIntyre’s mug it’s because he’s famous for a short-lived television drama from NBC called “Undercovers” and he was also featured on MyNetworkTV’s American Heiress as well. Carter has also appeared on Nip/Tuck, CSI:NY, Bones, and ER.

Subscription-based models for MMOs are fast becoming a thing of the past as more and more publishers transition over to the free-to-play model, and it looks like Blizzard may begin embracing the model with an unannounced game of theirs.

The news comes from a report by Develop, which has it that Blizzard is working on some sort of unannounced free-to-play title. Whether said title “Project Titan” or something else entirely, we don’t know–Develop’s sources didn’t go into more detail than that.

This isn’t the first time Blizzard has spoken about the possibility of adopting the free-to-play model in the future. Back during last year’s BlizzCon, Blizzard COO Paul Sams had this to say:

“It certainly is possible, if we find ourselves in that circumstance, or if we come up with a game where we think that’s the right business model, the most appropriate for players to experience it,” Sams said.

“We don’t have any opposition to the concept, it’s just that at this point we haven’t decided to make a game where that is the model. But that doesn’t mean that we won’t.”

The poster for Goon, a hockey comedy starring Jay Baruchel and Sean William Scott has been banned when Toronto officials found the sexually suggestive  tongue in between two fingers pose on the poster to be lewd and offensive.

The poster promoting the film was released two weeks ago and since then  38 posters in the city were taken down, despite local dsitributor Alliance Films having no clue about the sudden ban until after it happened.

The film is about a bouncer (Scott) who gets touched by the hand of God, and eventually finds his way to the rink, and joins the worst hockey team imaginable, and through the film inspires the team and takes them to new heights. Baruchel plays teammate and new friend.

The cast are currently promoting the film in Toronto, so when asked about the ban Baruchel had this to say, “Another classic example of the cultural divide between Quebec and Ontario, I guess.” When director Mike Dowsar was asked about the incident he took the comical approach and said, “I question whether this has to do with Jay’s tongue or his ability to burn Maple Leafs jerseys, neither of which are offensive in any way,”

Baruchel and Evan Goldberg (Seth Rogen’s best friend and writing partner), co wrote the script together based on the book Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey, written by Doug Smith and Adam Frattasio. Baruchel also produced the film as well.

ATM makers Diebold (DBD) and NCR Corp. (NCR) are doing exceptionally well with year to date gains exceeding those of both Microsoft (MSFT) as well as Apple (AAPL). Diebold and NCR Corp. are the two largest companies selling teller machines and the services required to operate them.

With all of the identity theft occurring, financial institutions have been looking towards new technological advancements to help defend and hopefully prevent criminals from exploiting our conveniently located cash dispensaries known as ATMs. The latest ATMs will attempt to thwart criminals intent on stealing important financial information by adding a layer of protection which utilizes technology such as vein pattern recognize software in addition to storing important data at another location.

Between the two ATM makers, Diebold and NCR, it could be that this sudden surge in demand for ATMs could inadequately sustain the two and one will eventually disappoint investors.

On December 31 of last year, 3% of David Einhorn’s Greenlight Capital was carefully invested in NCR so it should come as no surprise that the stock is considered a universal hold or greater. While the stock is a bit too pricey for most of today’s buyers, NCR appears to be continue to be a solid investment.

Seems as if cash isn’t much of an issue for NCR as the company recently made an agreement with Coinstar (CSTR) to part with the division that made self-serve DVD rental kiosks. The agreement landed $100 million in NCR’s pocket while Coinstar obtained a division of their company that was losing money. This sudden increase in available cash in addition to recently reported gains in underlying profit, a growing backlog of future business, the recent surge in demand for ATMs and their related services, and the fact that their restaurant and grocery store check-out scanners have been profitable makes NCR appear to be quite the solid investment at this time. Analysts are expecting a roughly 25% earnings growth for the 2012 year.

Diebold on the other hand is receiving mostly hold recommendation from analysts watching the stock. With strong fundamentals and cheap shares, NCR makes up for their $2.36 billion market cap (roughly two-thirds of NCR’s $3.45 billion) and is widely accepted as a hold at this time.

One big difference between the two ATM makers, Diebold and NCR, is the fact that NCR’s dividends yield roughly 3% where NCR pays no dividend.

Scorsone spoke with PEOPLE on Thursday and revealed that the couple are “over the moon” with exciting for the arrival of their little bundle of joy who will arrive this Summer.

Caterina says of her pregnancy:

“I’m starting to show now. Everybody on set has been pretty sweet and is offering me fruit.”

Following in the footsteps of her real life pregnancy viewers of the show will find out this week that Dr. Amelia Shepard is pregnant.

It turns out that after hearing about the pregnancy Private Practice creator Shonda Rhimes was inspired to change things up. Scorsone jokes that her pregnancy can be used for “dramatic purposes” on the show.

Female actresses often carry their real life pregnancies over to their shows characters, one of the most recent examples is Bones star Emily Deschanel who’s character Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan became pregnant during the most recent season of Fox’s hit TV series. Deschanel eventually welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world.

While it’s not confirmed we also reported on a story last week in which actress Drew Barrymore was caught carrying a sonogram out of her doctors office, it looks like 2012 could be a big year for celebrity pregnancy.

The hot to trot Denver Brocos player, Tim Tebow, has proved himself to be quite an asset in the last year. He’s made great plays for his team, and the media blitz that’s surrounding him doesn’t hurt either.

In the last year he was rumored to be dating singer Katy Perry (which he later denied), he’s made controversial relgioust comments, and he just seems to be on the tip of everyone’s tongue. Well now, Tim Tebow has decided to sign a contract with talent agency William Morris Endeavor, which was confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter earlier in the day.

As of right now WME will handle the 24 year-old quarterback’s image, book deals, public appearances,  endorsement deals, and future television and film roles that may come his way. However, Tebow is still signed to CAA, and they will continue to handle his athletic career and football contracts.

Since breaking out of the pack this year, Tebow has brought a certain image to the NFL that has been lacking for quite some time, and might be the best entertainment star as of late. In Heisman trophy winner has started a trend called “Tebowing” from his signature move, which has ran all over Facebook to football lovers living rooms.

A lot of industry people have suggested that Tebow has a bright future ahead of him as a star and football player, and if his endorsement deal to Nike is evident of that, then there’s no doubt we’ll be seeing a lot of Tim Tebow.
