She reportedly killed him just days after social services returned the boy to the woman. The boy’s father even filed for custody of him, and both parents were in a custody battle. However, the child was always eventually returned to live with his mother, with the last time being 10 days before his death.

According to the investigators, Julissa Thaler shot her son, Eli Hart, nine times with a shotgun while he was sitting strapped in his car booster seat.

Police bodycam footage posted by VigilantCam on YouTube shows officers in Minnesota pulling Thaler over during a routine traffic stop in May 2022 after noticing her car was missing a window and driving on a damaged tire rim. Officers later discovered the young boy's body hidden in the vehicle's trunk.

She refused to show her driver’s license at first. When one officer noticed a shotgun shell inside the vehicle, Thaler calmly responded that she had no weapon on her. She claimed that some kids shot her car with paintball guns and broke the tire and that she was rushing home to get a new one. The officer noticed that her fingers were bloody.

When he questioned her about how she got blood on her fingers, she started to mumble. “I’m really having a female issue, I need to get home,” she said.

After the officers pulled her out of the car, her body language seemed strange to them. At first, they suspected that she had been dealing with some mental health problem. However, Thaler claimed that she had a note from her psychiatrist for the custody court. However, the officer present at the scene was not satisfied with her answer.

“I'm being rude because this looks really bad. And kids shooting paintball guns doesn't do this a do this much damage to somebody's car,” one officer chimed in. “I'm worried about you. I'm concerned for you. You've got blood on you.”

“You guys need a warrant to search my car,” Thaler said in a desperate attempt to stop the officers from looking into the vehicle.

Just then, one officer noticed something strange. He discovered blood on the shattered glass of the car’s back window.

“It's not (blood). It was deer meat,” she intervened. “I’ve got a whole bag of ravioli and groceries over here.”

“It smells like like death in there,” one officer can be heard saying while inspecting the inside of the vehicle.

“I had bags of groceries there. I had some deer meat. I had some ravioli cans. I had some veggies. And then those people broke my window, so I had to throw all my groceries away… What do you need to look into? It's not a It's not a crime to get vandalized. I'm cold. I want to go home,” she said.

After close observation, officers in Minnesota discover more dents and blood. When asked about the empty shotgun shells, Thaler said they were for practice. The police ended up impounding the vehicle.

Inside the trunk, the officers found a shotgun and something wrapped under a blanket that looked like a child’s leg. When they took off the blanket, they found a dead body inside. The body had missing parts and looked like it belonged to a small male child.

After reaching Thaler’s residence, officers discovered that she and a male had already left the home. However, they were able to locate them and take Thaler into custody.

Dashcam footage from the police car shows Thaler still denying knowing anything. “I'm just not seeing what was it worth arresting us over what was in the car,” she could be heard saying to herself.

She kept up her act before the officers as they questioned her. “Did you find the people who did this? Was it DNA on me,’ she said. And I'm here telling you who did it. But I didn't know he was dead. You're telling me my baby boy is dead?”

“...You’re making assumptions. How do you know that I know? I want you to know that this baby boy is the most important person in the world to me. I would never hurt him. I would never do anything to him. I protect him.”

Thaler received a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole following her first-degree premeditated murder conviction.

Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities found seven guns in the room when he died; two of the revolvers were on the bed. One of them was used to shoot Brooks. According to the victim’s family, the two were not dating, and they were not aware of his situationship with McSpadden. She got out of jail on bond and appeared at a preliminary hearing on Friday, August 14, 2026. Her attorney called it a tragic accident and noted, “his incident is a tragedy that my client deeply regrets, as evidenced by her emotional reaction during our hearing today. As the evidence presented in court demonstrated, this was a tragic accident that my client had no intention or foresight that would occur. “

We wouldn’t even care about going through this, if we could have him back, even for a little bit longer.” The family is still grieving the loss, as they called Brooks the glue that kept them together. What followed next were months of hospital stay, physical therapy, and strength training at Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Loma Linda. On August 12, Morgan walked out of the rehab facility on her own.  Her father said, “When she stood up, she had a big old smile on her face because when she stood up, it was easier than what she thought it was.” He further added, “Seeing her now with a smile on her face, taking steps,” Jamie said. “She was so excited to walk for the first time.”

Morgan will continue to stay in rehab at another hospital before heading home and returning to normal life. She was grateful for all the support from her family and friends and dance group. She said, “I draw strength from the desire to dance again. I hope that continuing my rehab will get me stronger so I can be able to dance on stage again and go to school.” A GoFundMe was also started to support Morgan through her recovery. The goal amount is $45K, and a little over $40K has been donated at the time of publishing. The GoFundMe reads, "She is currently in the hospital, facing a challenging road ahead. This sudden medical emergency has turned her world upside down, and our family is doing everything we can to support her during this difficult time." The pet dog he got in February woke him up as she sensed fire in the house. Daniel Naillieux said, “Just recently, she’s really warmed up to me, and she’s been hanging out with me a lot more often. Now, I got her riding around with me everywhere.”

On the night of the fire, Naillieux came home and went straight to bed. He explained the dog is friendly and follows him around the house. She always lies next to him. However, that night, “She was terrified of something.” Around midnight, the dog woke him up with a weird sound he had never heard before.

He woke up and opened the bedroom door to find thick black smoke. He added, “I got about two steps into the hallway and realized, ‘We’re not gonna make it out of this house.’” He grabbed Ellie Rose and crawled out from the bedroom window. From there he went to the roof of the house and called 911 for help.

The first responders arrived at his Wahoo home in three minutes. He tossed the dog into one of the officer’s arms. Then they placed a ladder to rescue him. He climbed down the ladder safely.

Naillieux praised the police officer, “That cop is something special. He did not care. It melted part of the front end of my truck. That’s how hot it was. And he still got closer than my truck was to grab that ladder and get back to the back of the house.”

Unfortunately, he lost everything that he owned in the house. He appreciated the dog for saving his life. “I’ve never been more thankful to have a dog in my life. Because I am telling you, if she wouldn’t have barked, I would not have woken up. They would have been pulling me out of that house,” Naillieux said.

He expressed sadness after losing everything: “I’m not OK. I lost everything I own in that house. I have a single pair of clothes. And I went and bought these clothes. I got these boots. I have nothing left.

Saunders County started an assistance program on Facebook so people can contribute to help Naillieux and his family. He has a wife and three kids who were not at home at the time of the fire. Any donations will go directly to the family to help them during this difficult time.

The post reads, "Right now, they are beginning the difficult journey of rebuilding their lives. Every donation—no matter the amount—will help provide the essentials they need and remind them they are not facing this alone." It has a Venmo link to send funds to the family of five that has lost their house and all its belongings in the fire.

In February 2025, a single vehicle serving as a shelter for a family of eight broke down in the parking lot of a Walmart in Princeton, Texas. A concerned homeowner took in a family of eight after seeing a Facebook post about them living in a broken-down car. 

The local couple offered their home's second floor to the struggling family as their son was away in college and they had spare rooms. What began as an act of charity quickly unveiled signs of child neglect.

The woman noticed that the six children, who were between the ages of two and ten, had no shoes and were dressed in ill-fitted clothes. She found out that none of the children was enrolled in school or receiving formal education. Additionally, she learned that Kevin Dixon, the father of the kids, restrained them from coming downstairs.

Police bodycam footage posted by Daily Dose of Crime on YouTube shows the woman calling Child Protective Services to the residence after the parents of the six children leave the house. As a CPS worker and one police officer approach the front door, the owner answers. She explains the situation and leads the inspectors upstairs to where the family had been staying.

Authorities found that the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services had already flagged inadequate living conditions for the children and warned Dixon against excessive discipline four years ago in 2021. However, the warning never led to any serious charges.

Describing the state of the family’s car, the witness said, “Forget about the vehicle situation because it needs either an alternator or more, but he took it up to check the Walmart. It's by the apartments' side of the Walmart, but it has no tags. It's not inspected. And when you walk up to it, it's disgusting. I don't have pictures of it, but you will smell it. It smells like severe urine.”

The officer spoke to the oldest child and found that they have not been to school in over a year.

The case quickly shifts from deprivation into that of parental control after DFPS finds that five out of the six children have marks and permanent scars on their bodies. The witness told officers that he had a criminal background.

“He has a robbery. He held someone at gunpoint in 2017. I guess he had a handgun recently, and he was in Gainesville, not recently in jail, for I don't know. He said (he was) driving without a license. Well, he was driving this morning without a license.”
“The mom works in Arlington, and she was driving back and forth as home care. Mom seems like she is fine with the kids. She does what she needs to with them. It's dad that's holding her back from taking care of them correctly. And he kind of manipulates her.”

When authorities confronted the parents after they returned, they made excuses. The mother said that the children were not in school because they have no stable place to stay.

“But, when I tried to enroll them into school, the registrar at a school...told me not to enroll these kids into a school until we have somewhere stable because I was trying to just enroll them into a school that's closer to my cousin's house so she could just like get them until I got off of work. But the registrar flat out told us, if we didn't have a place to stay, don't enroll the kids in school. This was in Dallas ISD.”

She explains that they lived in a different car previously.

“So, it's in a parking lot. It's just under a train track. But we were parked there. Um, people had stopped, you know, to see if we were okay, if anything, you know, the kids were warm and everything. The car just wasn't starting back up when it was time to get the hell out there.”

“So, that's when we asked someone for a boost. The guy came over, you know, and gave us a boost. The car still was dying, and then he came back the following day to help us. And that following day, which is a Friday, he made the post. I'm not sure whenever he made the post, but he made the post, and then someone came out, …we took the help. And we've been here for about a week, you know; we've just been waiting on things to come into play for us to basically get up and move because we've been here without transportation up until a couple days ago.”

However, she doesn’t mention how they came to live in a car. Authorities find no record of employment, income, or the reason behind their current situation. The CPS intervened and took custody of all the children. The parents were taken into police custody.

The older children finally spoke and said that they were starved and beaten and were not allowed to interact without the parents’ consent.

It’s unclear what happened to the mother. Dixon, on the other hand, received five life sentences for child abuse and two 25-year sentences for child malnutrition after pleading guilty to seven total counts of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury.

Detective Carolyn Crawford of the Princeton Police Department documented severe injuries across the six children, including the youngest. Due to Dixon's prior robbery record, Collin County Judge Kimberly M. Lassiter sentenced him under an enhanced penalty range of 15 years to life per count.

Although Dixon has filed seven active appeals, his convictions and multiple life sentences currently stand.

Using that excuse, he met with him several times over the course of one year. “After befriending the victim, Ly began visiting him regularly, approximately two to three times a week. During those visits, Ly allegedly obtained the victim’s cell phone PIN and used it to access the victim’s bank and cryptocurrency accounts." “From approximately June 2024 through August 2025, Ly allegedly conducted approximately 91 transactions transferring money from the victim’s bank account into cryptocurrency accounts that Ly owned or controlled. The total loss was approximately $100,000. The victim’s bank was able to recover more than $50,000 once the fraud was detected,” the DA’s office said in a press release. Ly faces several charges, including “felony counts of theft from an elder or dependent adult, grand theft, and unauthorized use of personal identifying information.” Authorities say Ly used the victim’s vulnerability to exploit him and that several factors indicate that he planned the entire theft. “The charges include aggravating factors that the victim was particularly vulnerable, that the manner in which the crimes were carried out indicates planning, sophistication, and professionalism, and that Ly took advantage of a position of trust.” Authorities suspect there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. The death of a 16-year-old girl from Sydney, Australia, is reportedly being treated as a suspected s*xual strangulation case.

Emergency services responded to a welfare check report on a residence in Elanora Heights in Sydney’s northern beaches on Sunday, August 23, in the evening, according to New South Wales Police. NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived just after 5.15 p.m. after receiving a report of a teen girl having a seizure. Upon arrival, paramedics found the girl unresponsive.

They reportedly treated the girl at the scene before she was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition. She was pronounced dead two days later, on Tuesday night, authorities said.

NSW police said in a statement, “Officers attached to northern beaches police area command commenced an investigation into the incident.” So far, no arrests or charges have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The teens were driving in an Acura and were just a few houses away from Maddalyn’s home. After the crash, the Acura split into multiple pieces and caught fire. The crash was reported around 8.34 p.m. Both teens were pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics rushed another injured person at the scene to the local hospital. Terry Lamar Easter, 50, who was allegedly driving the Chevrolet Camaro, fled the scene after the crash, leaving his 11-year-old son inside the vehicle. The authorities added him to the wanted list with a $1 million arrest warrant. Easter fled the scene on foot, while the other driver remained and cooperated with the authorities. The identity of the driver hasn't been revealed yet, but he was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

When he heard the loud engine noise, he rushed out to Elmwood Drive and Ridgecrest Road and witnessed the horrific crash. He told The Los Angeles Times, “I saw everything: the ball of fire from the other car that hit it, her car in pieces. Bodycam footage of the encounter, shared by Florida Man Arrest Cam on its YouTube channel, shows a chaotic scene that ends with the elderly woman in handcuffs.

In the footage, the woman appears increasingly agitated, striking herself in the face and allegedly biting one of the responding officer's forearm. A neighbor told police officers that the elderly couple argued frequently, and that night had heard the woman screaming, "He's going to kill me."

When the officer asked whether the husband had been physically violent with the wife, the neighbor said she'd seen him grab the woman's arm, apparently trying to calm her down, and confirmed the fight had been louder than usual. She added that the 911 dispatcher, who had stayed on the line, heard the confrontation unfold in real time. 

At one point, the officer asked the woman for her birthday. She screamed back, "I don't remember," and bashed her head against the seat of the patrol car. She refused to answer further questions.

Her husband later told the officer she had dementia and was "getting old." Asked what triggered the argument, he said he didn't know while saying that she's mostly upset.

When pressed on whether she had any diagnosed condition, he said that they had seen a doctor but didn't share any specifics.

When asked what set her off screaming, the husband said, "She's out of her mind. She's getting old... she loses her mind sometimes."

Another neighbor told officers that he heard yelling but didn't see anything. According to the footage, the fight escalated after the woman pushed a trash can and her husband picked it up; an act that prompted more screaming. 

While a female deputy checked on the woman, she cried and remained uncooperative, complaining that the handcuffs were hurting her hands. When she was not getting into the patrol car on her own, an officer lifted her in.

She was taken into custody and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer. The officer confirmed to the husband that she would spend the night in jail while he continued to seem unsure of what happened.

The bodycam video has garnered over 4,000 views, with many noting that the couple seemed old and less aware of things. One viewer commented, "Thank god that woman in the car was kind to her. I'd say she has dementia." One more posted, "She needs hospitalization with evaluation. Dementia with brain damage, and she will need meds with observation until stable."

Another one elaborated how dementia can impact behavior, "This woman has untreated dementia. I am a caregiver for my mother, and she is the same. It's a cruel disease as any drugs or alcohol." Many viewers also slammed police officers for not being kind, as her behavior clearly seemed to be due to medical reasons.

One person posted, "Shame on this Officer…you blew it for a geriatric person. More training!" "This one was quite sad. I hope they find the resources they need to be okay," noted one more.

The shooter was identified as 27-year-old Cole White of South Vienna. He shot his mother multiple times, killing her, and later fatally shot one of the police officers. Deputy Matthew Yates, 41, a 15-year veteran of the Clark County Sheriff's Office, was struck by a bullet in his jaw and chin area, ultimately causing his death.

Deputies responded to a 911 welfare check at a mobile home in Harmony Estates Mobile Home Park, east of Springfield, on July 24, 2022, after a neighbor reported several shots fired inside the mobile home.

The initial call described an unknown person breaking into the residence; that person turned out to be White's 47-year-old mother, Jodie Arbuckle, who had gone in to check on her son after being unable to reach him.

Before the incident, White had reportedly prior contact with law enforcement over mental health and firearms concerns, and his mother and her fiancé, Kristin Mills, had been checking on him regularly and helping cover his rent.

Mills revealed to the investigators that White did not attend a hearing related to firearm charges in Greene County, so his mother called the Clark County Sheriff’s Office to do a welfare check. After the investigation, it was confirmed he had legally purchased three firearms: two handguns and a rifle. 

Bodycam footage showed several standoffs between White and responding officers. Yates, who wore a helmet, pleaded with White multiple times to come out before eventually forcing entry into the home; he was shot almost immediately and went down inside. Deputies tried to reach him, at one point even using an armored vehicle to strike the trailer to distract White.

However, at some point during the hours-long standoff, the mobile home caught fire, and Yates remained inside until he was finally pulled out after 2.30 p.m. He was flown to Miami Valley Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. White died in the fire that consumed the home.

Deputy Yates' body was escorted with a massive law enforcement agency procession from the Montgomery County Coroner's Office to the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home in Springfield.

Code Blue Cam shared the bodycam video from the incident on their YouTube channel and has drawn over 360,000 views, with many expressing shock after watching the raw footage of the police's encounter with the shooter. Despite several attempts to subdue the shooter, many viewers felt police could do more to handle the situation.

One viewer commented, "Police looked like they need A LOT more training. People yelling everywhere. Just pure chaos." Another one added, "I served for 23 years; we were taught to engage and overwhelm the shooter the second he leaves cover and/or fires into a stack. Shoot back or die trying to neutralize the bad guy. Backing out and leaving a brother is not in my wheelhouse."

One appreciated and wrote, "Man, the visuals to help understand fully what’s going on are so helpful. Thank you, guys." "I'd rather self-delete than harm my mom," posted another viewer. Another one chimed in, "Waiting 4 hours to get an injured, possibly dead officer is BONKERS!!"

The cause of the fire was not determined, while other mobile homes around were safe. Meanwhile, the department acknowledged the officers did everything in their power to handle the situation; hence, the force used and the plan to handle the attack were justified.

A groom and bride were allegedly left "bedridden" after consuming norovirus-tainted food catered by a boutique hotel in Brooklyn at their wedding reception. Along with the newlyweds, dozens of their guests suffered the same fate. Now, the couple is suing the hotel and seeking damages for ruining their big day.

According to the American Medical Association, norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, often accompanied by fever or headache. 

Michael Ahern, an attorney, and his wife held a lavish $30,000 reception at The Box House in Greenpoint on November 30, 2024. However, the event ended up with “repeated episodes of vomiting and diarrhea.” According to the lawsuit viewed by The Independent, the couple endured “chills, abdominal cramps, and fatigue” and were bedridden for “several days” after the event.

“Instead of beginning their marriage by celebrating with family and friends, Plaintiff and his spouse spent the days following their wedding suffering from the debilitating effects of the norovirus outbreak caused by food served at their reception,” the suit claimed.

The complaint adds that the 31 guests developed “acute gastrointestinal symptoms” over the next day or two.

According to the report, the Aherns and more than 30 of the 112 attendees tested positive for norovirus. A New York City Health Department investigation found the newlyweds and the infected attendees consumed three food items at the reception: macaroni-and-cheese croquettes, prosciutto, and a “seasonal crumble” dessert.

The investigation also identified “multiple deficiencies in (the hotel restaurant’s) food-safety and sanitation practices,” including the absence of hand soap in the kitchen and a proper thermometer for determining food temperatures.

The Health Department report stated that an employee, who had tested positive for norovirus, failed to mention being sick. However, they added that the employee had not made any of the three dishes that are in question and concluded that “specific food vehicles as a mode of transmission remain undetermined for this outbreak.”

The Box House Hotel’s spokesperson has issued an apology to the Aherns and their guests. “We’re sorry that guests got sick after this wedding. It was meant to be one of the best nights of their lives, and it wasn’t, and we understand why that still stings.”

The spokesperson added that the hotel, which scored an A during an inspection, is fully cooperating with the investigating authorities and following all of their guidance. “We retrained our people on handwashing and on reporting illness, we tightened how we check food temperatures, and we had the restaurant and the event spaces fully disinfected, which was requested by the Department of Health, and we happily obliged.”

Furthermore, the hotel also argues that norovirus was “everywhere in New York that winter.”

The hotel's spokesperson said, “A wedding weekend runs over several days and several venues, with food from more than one kitchen, and people moving through a city where the virus was already widespread. It could have started in any of those places; to attribute it to merely one space is not appropriate given the Norovirus’ rampant spread throughout all of New York City at the time. Further, the client brought in their own food from after-party pizzas as well as cakes and other items for their guests to enjoy for their wedding.”

The hotel has about three weeks to file an answer to the complaint in court.
