Speaking of burning….some renditions that were offered set a fire under the listener’s ear and made them want to shout, while others were more like smoke, (meaning you sought for the nearest exit from the vicinity as fast as your computer’s mouse could guide you)! Not to say these folks should not be praising and worshiping, it’s just that their particular music ministry might be best received by the Creator Himself during intimate moments inside their prayer closet. (Preferably a soundproof closet….j/k)!!! Seriously though, the sound of worship is beautiful in all it’s forms, it just may not be right for Tye’s next project.

That being said, the snowball effect was in force from the time Tye opened up the opportunity to the cutoff date of July 1st.

Each day brought new auditions and the competition was FIERCE!

GWL is happy to bring you coverage of some of the most notable submissions from the past several weeks. Due to the sheer number of applicants we will not be able to elaborate as much as in the past, but we will cover as many Stand Out performances as we can!

Once again, Kudos to Tye and his team for opening up a door that most people have to “stand on on foot reciting the star spangled backwards while wearing socks with an even number of polka-dots on” just to GET the chance!!

He made it simple, and the world is certainly grateful! If you missed this chance, we have a very strong feeling that many gospel artists will likely follow suit and begin to open up future opportunities through all forms of social media. It’s something that couldn’t have been done even 10 or 15 years ago and we’re just glad to be blessed enough to see it come to pass!

Well then, there’s a TON of auditions to cover, so let’s get right to the disclaimer!

*Disclaimer: Gospelworshipleader.com is in no way “officially” responsible for the contestant’s selection, (or lack thereof), in this contest. That’s completely up to Tye and his team. We simply recognize the awesome significance of this event and want to keep as much coverage on it as possible. All views expressed are the author’s and are meant to provide POSITIVE and CONSTRUCTIVE feedback only!

And now….. grab your popcorn, hot chocolate, and whatever else will make you comfy. Let’s get to it!

Final Round roundup:

Charlesza Neal- 21 from Memphis TN

GWL THOUGHTS: + Charelsza exemplifies “confidence”. It’s a very solid, moving performance with no discernible vocal flaws. Improvement Suggestion: Nobody said the vocalist had to be “all that AND a bag of Doritos”, but to be very, very honest the competition is so fierce it may take more that a safe, solid performance to make some one STAND OUT against the others! This audition process has brought out some of the best, and that’s why we encourage the singers to not only sing but inflect their personality and other talents into the video. This is not to say his audition isn’t strong, but I pray that Tye sees something in him that sets him apart. (Also…is it just me or does he look a little like Taye Diggs)? Perhaps Tye will think he’s “The Best Man” for the job!! (Smile, we couldn’t resist).

Aaron Luckey, 25 from Cincinnati, OH:

GWL THOUGHTS: + O.K., let’s be “real” here. Have you ever dated someone that your friends may have thought was “not anything CLOSE to a supermodel”, but it didn’t matter to you because their awesome personality more than made up for it? Well, that’s kind of an applicable analogy in this case. NO….we are NOT saying Aaron could never be a supermodel, but rather his vocals left us thinking his gift of song may not yet be suited for a national stage. (Not “bad”, just not up to ultra-professional levels). And. Then. He. Danced! This man of God shows us his true talents by giving one of the best dance auditions since this competition began! Check the comments and you’ll see the positive impressions are generally unanimous! Improvement Suggestion: Aaron dazzled us so much with his upper-body’s dexterity that we almost didn’t notice his lower half was not as agile….(almost). In any case there’s plenty of time to enhance the choreography flow, especially if Tye agrees that he is near the head of the pack of the dancers!

Erin Mclendon, from Cleveland OH

GWL THOUGHTS: “Baggage claim”? LOL! Erin starts off by telling us that she want’s this so much she’ll even “take over baggage claim” or “hold Tye’s shoes”. How fitting then that she launches into a brief, yet tightly-controlled medley that pretty much threatens to knock our socks off?? (Will you be holding those too, Erin)? Nothing overdone, nothing mind shattering, but what she did present was very high quality. Her melodic riffs were tasteful and demonstrative of vocal creativity. And, she stayed in key. Bravo! Improvement suggestions: At the risk of sounding like a broken record player, now is the time to really STAND OUT! I would’ve loved to have seen some versatility in the form of a bit more energy. As we watched the video, it seems like her left arm was saying “let’s go, let’s move”, and her right arm was like: “um, not today….”. It’s all good, if she’s picked I’m confident the rest of her limbs will follow that left arm’s lead. Don’t quench it!!

Tiffany from MD

GWL THOUGHTS: O.K., on the YouTube comments, more than one of the readers noted that she sounds a lot like Beyonce. Tiffany, pay attention. There a LOT WORSE THINGS that could happen besides being vocally compared to one of the most amazing female vocalists of our GENERATION!!! The thing we loved is that your kept B’s influence and style without EMULATING her, but rather building upon that in your own way to produce a very smooth gospel audition. We’re hoping Tye and company get Crazy in Love with your submission! Improvement Suggestion: One of main things setting Tiffany apart from Ashley, (one of our favorite female contestants), is the fact that Ashley was able to squeeze out so much passion and sincerity into her brief audition time. Even though she didn’t dance, you really “felt” her words. We’re very confident that Tiffany can do the same, we’d just like to see it!

Michelle, Ontario CA

GWL THOUGHTS: Hot on the heels of Tye’s specific request for other nationalities comes Michelle from CA. You wanna talk “diverse”? This sister snaps her fingers on the “one and the three”, and somehow still makes it work! This was admittedly a risky song choice for the audition, but she pulled it off very well! Nice richness to her tone and a refreshing uniqueness to her style and delivery. Improvement suggestions: The song choice was a gamble, yet inviting. Actually we checked out her OTHER videos and they solidify her vocal consistency. If anything, don’t miss her gospelized rendition of Alicia’s Keys, (“if I Ain’t Got You, Jesus”), on her YouTube channel. It’s arguably an even better display of her impressive ability. Finally, although she’s somewhat glued to the chair, she still knows how to move!

Da’Quela, Milwaukee, WI

GWL THOUGHTS: Ladies, and gentlemen STOP the presses……this contestant is controlling her voice with some of the most amazing precision we’ve seen thus far! Maybe it’s the fact that her range is phenomenal, but these vocals are smoking! And if the final riff at 1:10 doesn’t quicken YOUR spirit, I suggest you check out the country music blogs, (because this is how gospel is supposed to be)!!! Improvement suggestions: This is a difficult part, from the beginning of her song we noticed what appeared to be questionable pitch selections, but the weird part about it was that they occurred at the same melodic spots in the song, (:32, 1:06). After listening to the majority of Da’Quela’s OTHER videos, we walk away convinced this girl has NO PITCH PROBLEMS at all. What we heard is more than likely her singing a rendition of the song that has a chord progression slightly different from the original. She didn’t dance, but with a range like that she doesn’t need to in order to impress!

Tyra Juliet, NYC

GWL THOUGHTS: From the moment this competition began, we were amazed and thankful that an amazing opportunity was being extended to EVERYONE. Finally, the unknown artists could now be heard when they might not have otherwise had the chance. Praise GOD for that…BUT, Tyra Juliet lets us know in no uncertain terms that even the seasoned professional singers with tons of experience are looking to be included in this next wave of Tye’s ministry. And boy, does she represent them well!!! If she looks familiar to you, it might be because of her numerous television and stage appearances, including the worldwide mega-hit called American Idol!!! (And we’re talking Hollywood week, not that laugh-at-us early comedy auditions). Tyra’s voice is just about as polished and professional as you could get, and her almost-too-short-audition leaves us all wanting more! I think one of the strongest things going for her is the fact that she not only brings the diversity Tye is seeking, (vocally and in her nationality), but she also exhibits, no-”ooozes”, the ultimate level of professionalism to her craft. Singing is surely what she was born to do and anyone can tell she’s put a ton of time and effort into perfecting her gift. So now that she has the desire and opportunity to take that gift out to glorify God in ministry??? We’d pay to see that! Improvement suggestions: Yet another audition that didn’t dance, and ironically yet another audition that didn’t need to dance to show the passion of her craft. (You can check out her other videos for further confirmation). Another observation that we have is that her style, while polished, professional, and expertly delivered…isn’t “gospel”. Or to put it more accurately, it isn’t the “typical gospel sound” that we are used to hearing. Nevertheless…with Tye looking for a NEW and DIVERSE sound, we think she kind of personifies what he’s looking for…and what we’re looking forward to hear. We’re excited about the possibilities!

GWL THOUGHTS:+ Up until now most of our top picks from a vocal standpoint have been of the female variety, but Travis’ impressive display is turning the tide! He comes from Tye’s hometown of New Jersey and he’s pretty much convincing the world that when it comes to producing anointed talent, the East Coast is far from a one hit wonder! Just take a listen…it’s almost as if someone told him “you have two minutes to show us why you should go forward in national ministry”, and he responded: “I only need 1:04″. He surely leaves us wanting more and a quick search on YouTube confirms that he’s already left a positive impression in his hometown and beyond! IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTIONS: His audition was short, sweet, and to the point! There was actually time to go into something else that displayed even more versatility, but based on the quality of that rendition, it’s hard to imagine he couldn’t hang with the best.

Nichelle Mungo – from Boston, MA

GWL THOUGHTS:+What’s this? No crazy acrobatic riffs? No “gospelogical backflips”? Not even a “woo-woo”??? In this totally unique performance, Berklee college of Music professor, Nichelle Mungo demonstrates that one can stay far from the expected norm and still transform even a simple song such as “Kum Ba Yah” into an event that can only be adequately be described as angelic.. Nichelle’s audition chooses to emphasize a clear, consistent and cutting tone above all else and she allows it to demonstrate her mastery of the particular technique. Before you start to think that this might be a style unfitting for Tye’s usual offerings, might I remind you of the mega-successful cut “Seated At The Right Hand of God” that was performed by Demaris Tribbett. Both movements offer a similar approach to the vocal delivery and the results fill a subset of the genre all by itself. IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTION: Unique or not, Kum Ba Yah does not exactly give an artist a chance to showcase their energetic performance style. Fortunately, Nichelle is no stranger to dynamic performances on an international level. Clips from her critically acclaimed Japan tours are spread throughout YouTube. We have no doubt that she’d be able to provide an exceptionally comfortable level of support and enhancement in Tye’s future projects!

Shiana – 24 from Cleveland, OH

GWL THOUGHTS:+ Have you ever spent so much time in the sun that the world could just look at you and tell where you’ve been? Have you ever spent enough time around a smoker that everywhere you went people could smell the smoke on your clothes? Our point is simply this: Shiana has very likely spent a lot of time worshiping before God because all it takes is one look at her delivery to know she’s spent time in His presence! I’m betting that most of the experienced worshipers reading this will agree that it’s apparent she means business. Her “intended audience” is in surely in heaven, and her passionate delivery seems to beckon all to simply “join in”! Watch carefully as she peers upwards…this girl is clearly in LOVE! IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTIONS: Have you noticed we haven’t said one word about her vocals? That’s surely not because they weren’t solid, (they were fine), but rather because she didn’t choose to make them the primary focal point of her audition. Had she done so then then she might have been lost in the sea of phenomenal submissions from the YouTube vocal giants, but instead she choose to focus on the worship aspect and we believe she did the right thing! THIS is what most people want from a ministry concert experience, singers that are genuine in their message!

Cheneta Jones – 25 from St. Louis, MO

GWL THOUGHTS: + We certainly hope Chenata has insurance because we plan on suing her for the damage to the bottom of our chins. Come to think of it, we might as well start a class action suit because there must be tons of people out there that had their jaws drop to the floor upon seeing this video! In a brief 1:46, Cheneta has produced what is arguably one of the best, most well-rounded submissions we’ve had the privilege of covering yet!! Boom! The word “nervousness” is apparently missing from her vocabulary as she immediately showcases her warm and bubbly personality with a brief but welcoming introduction. She then announces a somewhat familiar song, (Myron Butler’s “Set Me Free”), and blindsides us by rendering the selection it in a soulful “solo style”. No, she didn’t butcher the original artist’s work, (cough*cough* like Mr. Trey Songz*cough*cough* Prince “tribute”*cough), but rather she personalized it with some skillful artistry and interpretation. And just when we really begin to marvel at how very, very well she’s delivering the song, she flips the script again. One word: “Bongos”. Yes, bongos alone! I don’t think I need to mention what a risky choice a sudden bongo-fueled transition could be…but, BAM! She nails it! She dances and sings like a seasoned G.A. member, yet she never isolates herself, instead she makes us want to join in the energetic praise. If at least one of your limbs isn’t moving rhythmically by the end of this video, I’d advise you to check your pulse, real talk. Much like Shiana from OH seemed to be right at home in her worship, it’s amazingly obvious that Cheneta thrives in a performance environment. And the vocals….never…suffered. Wow. IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTIONS: As tempted as I am to use the “improvement” section to keep on complimenting the audition, I will focus on one observation. While many auditions have displayed “raw talent” and “natural anointing”, it’s quite apparent that Cheneta is also a professional and has already taken steps to hone her gifts and craft. (That is surely NOT a bad thing as it will help in almost any national ministry she goes into). Her countless performances cataloged on YouTube will confirm that fact. So then, what separates Cheneta’s level of professionalism from someone like Tyra Juliet from NYC? Tyra’s level of professional experience comes from areas not usually considered “typical gospel” while Cheneta has gained a wealth of knowledge focused primarily in a more common type of “soul gospel”. The million dollar question is whether or not Tye will look for the “professional and familiar”, or the “professional and unconventional”. We have a potential answer to that question….PICK BOTH!!!! Nothing would please us more than to see a very diverse project released that covers the entire spectrum of music ministry!

So then….WHAT’S NEXT????

Tick-TOCK!!!! Ecclesiastes 3:1 states “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:”.

This very scripture had a profound application to countless young, gospel-loving men and women the whole world over when the internationally acclaimed gospel superstar Tye Tribbett let them know, (in no uncertain terms), that if they EVER had a desire to audition to work and minister with him, This…was…..their….SEASON!!!

As the word of the event continues to spread, YouTube has EXPLODED with worshipers, praise instigators, back-flippers, aspiring movie editors, and at least one video shot in a local pancake house! Singing everything from “Here I Am To Worship” to selections from “The Wiz”, it is a sight to behold indeed!

Are you contemplating the possibility of submitting a video showcasing your own Gospel Super-heroics?

Well, if you still want to “jump in while the water is being troubled”, you only have about 30 days left!

The range of diverse talent in this competition has the power to engage onlookers almost as much as televised competitions like Sunday’s Best and Gospel Dream!

As this is a rare and uncommon opportunity, we here at GWL could not help but to watch this fantastic moment unfold and give our readers a first hand look into what is sure to be history in the making! And we’re certainly not the only ones excited… let’s see what Tye had to say about the auditions thus far:

Well, there you have it! What is stopping YOU from allowing your gifts to make room for you in this event?? Let’s see what others are doing!

Now….let’s get to the latest round! We really can’t cover everyone, but here are some of the most notable recent entries:

Round 3 roundup:

Jerome, “Brother J”, Shreveport LA

GWL THOUGHTS: +Look at ya neighbor and say, “Full PACKAGE”! Jerome comes in hard by giving us a short but unique video intro, a custom background track complete with reverb and vocal effects, a worship inspiring backdrop, (not that we’re hating on the contestant that filmed at the Waffle House), and get this: end credits. It was so complete, I was almost waiting to see if there would any deleted or hidden scenes at the end . Brother J also showed his humor by cutting his own intro short about 2-3 seconds BEFORE it would’ve been considered “too long”! And the vocals were solid. I would surely like to visit his church, just because I know the worship must be polished! Improvement suggestion - Although his use of an accompaniment track was the best since, um, Blacklucy., I couldn’t help but wonder if Tye is going to think; “I wonder what Brother J sounds like without the reverb”. He can obviously hold a note skillfully, there’s no question. And chances are Tye’s next group wont be doing very many A Capella, unmiked, acoustic renditions, so he should be safe. Perhaps when he posts his dance video he can give us about a 1/2 lb of “untouched vocal”….with a side of the “gospel dance” training he mentions in the video. To quote track #14 on the Stand Out Cd…”Well Done”.

Jasmine Westin, 23 from OH

GWL THOUGHTS: +Say what you will, but there’s no denying that Jasmine has what we’ll call the G-factor! Vocals were in tune. Testimony was heartfelt. But the ENERGY? In a word, this young lady is “engaging”. I’ve seen some singers take more impressive risks with their vocals in this competition, and she was certainly a few backflips short of being the most impressive dancer…yet there was something unique that captivated and kept my attention throughout the video! She definitely has a ministry that will reach people. Don’t think so? Well, there’s about 748 subscribers to her YouTube channel that would tend to agree with me! (And as soon as I finish this report it’s going to be 749). Whatever your opinion is, don’t even THINK about looking away until you see the air guitar starting at 3:29. Improvement suggestion - Truthfully, although she didn’t go out of tune, there are some phenomenal singers in this competition to contend with. Joyful Joyful was very heartfelt, but also very familiar. A lot of people will be able to sing right along with you because many of the riffs are extremely similar to the original performance from Sister Act. Dont be afraid to transfer some of that captivating uniqueness into your song style! To quote the American Idol judges:”make the song even better by making it your own”! In spite of all that, remember one important thing. In Tye’s former group, Greater Anointing there were some members that I still have yet to see come NEAR a mic, nevertheless their stage presence and energy made me wear out the rewind button on my DVR! You HAVE the “presence”, (of the Lord, no doubt). Now go forth and continue to tap into that gift and watch God move!

LaKeisha Pierson, CA

GWL THOUGHTS: + She can sing worship, without a doubt. Lakeisha brings a determined worship vibe to her vocals and you can tell where her comfort zone is. She also shows a level of confidence that does not cross over into cockiness. Her style is solidly traditional, but that’s not a bad thing at all. Improvement suggestion - Although I love the song she selected, I’m not sure it was the very best song she could have chosen for this competition. At the very least since it is a slow paced selection, I would not sing two verses of something so similarly. It’s awesome how she builds in intensity on the second verse, but given the limited time I’d rather see her start out intense and use the extra time to show some more versatility in the form of an uptempo song. Or a back flip. (What? They impress me)!! Also, the song transitioned to a lower key right at 2:12. If this was intentional, bravo! If not, the recovery was quick enough that only trained ears will notice.

GWL THOUGHTS: + Say WHAT now?? If you payed attention to Tye’s latest video, you’ll see this is EXACTLY what he’s looking for…vocal skills, energy, AND diverse nationalities! Being another nationality by itself is not all that shocking, but this young lady has the pipes to match. She has a unique tone that is not only “different” but “mastered”. Her range is very respectable and her tone goes between “sweet” and “raspy” with no degradation. Kind of reminds me of a cross between Kari Jobe and Kim Walker! Graduated with a degree in vocal performance? That’s somebody’s money that was well spent. Improvement suggestion - Hmm….it’s NOT TOO LATE….post a dance video! And um, the books behind you on the bookshelf are not in alphabetical order……(???) Can you tell I’m reaching? Great Job!

John Samuel D. Victa, “Sam” 22 Filipino

GWL THOUGHTS: + Sam?? Any Relation to Israel Houghton?? LOL. He’s got the look down, that’s for sure. What’s also certain is that he CAN sing, (and quite well). His pitch is not completely perfect, but in this song it’s pretty close! The great thing about Tye seeking a diverse background of singers is that the distinctive characteristics of each person’s native language will make for a rich and varied sound that could not otherwise be achieved! Sam may not be a vocal front-man, but the uniqueness of his voice coupled with his impressive control should make him a nice contributor to the group as a whole. . Improvement suggestion - He seems a little…stiff, if only he could loosen up just a bit. Wait a minute….what’s this????????

GWL THOUGHTS: + Sam, is that you???? Well now, that’s versatile! He went from delightfully stiff, (but cool to watch), to a founding member of Taylor Hick’s Soul Patrol! Vocals are on the same level as before but he shows adaptability and more than a few dance moves. Look for a Quagmire style neck movement at 2:57. Giggety. Improvement suggestion - pitch was not perfect, but a few of his vocal choices made me believe that he could correct them easily in a group setting. Dancing was cool….for being in a CHAIR… (???) Feel free to stand OUT and stand UP!! I’m sure he’ll place well.

GWL THOUGHTS: + Ladies and Gentlemen, Jamaica has made a statement and everyone is listening! In 4 short minutes this young lady takes us on a complete journey comprised of 3 main acts. Verse 1 is s spirited rendition of Bless the Lord by Jon Owens, (featured on the Stand Out CD). Initially she doesn’t stray too far from the original rendition, but she injects enough of her bright personal flavor into it that we know she’s going somewhere unique with the song. Act 2 begins with the chorus as more of her unique vocal characteristics are brought to the forefront. Her tone is light and easy on the ears, yet not thin. There’s some great substance here, and the well placed vibrato seals the deal. (This is the part where most of you will really start to perk up)! Her finale starts in the bridge of the song as she lets loose with a full island style interpretation that is reminiscent of Mr. Mali Music himself! You can just feel the words as she delivers them uniquely and with consistency. I wouldn’t call her the vocal beast that Angie White has proven to be, but she brings a bubbly, quirky flavor that is strong enough to stand out from the competition. Oh….and great job with the accompaniment. Improvement suggestion - This audition was very tastefully done, and not too much I can say that’s negative. Although she didn’t dance, there was certainly enough energy conveyed to make most people believe she could hang with the likes of Tye. We dont have to see a dance video from her, but I don’t think anyone would complain if she put one out! At least if there was something showing her presence while standing Tye could get a better picture of how she’d handle herself on stage. Nevertheless, what she did was very strong indeed.

Brandon Edwards, 20 from OH

GWL THOUGHTS: + Although you may be tempted DO NOT SKIP this video!!! Imagine Marvin Sapp singing through a cheap payphone from halfway around the world on a bad connection. With Marvin being Marvin he’d STILL blow the majority of us away with his pipes! That’s what I think of when I see this video. Brandon’s vocals are so unique and refreshing that they cut through the Fischer Price recording equipment like a hot knife through butter! It’s kind of like when I play video games with my 6 year old cousin. Most new games have a “handicap” feature that allow you to even the odds between players of different levels. If Brandon sounds this good at 3 frames per second and AM radio recording quality, I cant help but wonder what he can do with the proper setup! Improvement suggestion - Not to be picky, but the camera phone quality of the video almost lost me in the beginning, but I’m so glad I stayed! I’d love for him to showcase something that displays more of his energy. Once again, if the vocals sound that good at low quality, we may be on the floor if they were presented with the proper setup. That’s something to think about!

GWL THOUGHTS: + Charles is repping the ATL and the ATL wont complain at all. His vocal style is different and at least one riff reminded me of Jodeci, (at 1:56). I think his strongest asset is the fact that he’s not “typical”. I believe Tye is all about uniqueness and this brother has that. The DANCE VIDEO?? Real smooth! Kind of like an Usher feel to his movements, and we have to give him props for the setup…he got his silhouette praise on! Improvement suggestion - His vocals are strong, yet like others not amazingly mind blowing. He was wise to showcase his versatility and creativeness, which are surely his main strengths. He maintained a solid pitch for 99 % of the song, (and that one note could have gone either way). In my opinion he has the potential to do quite well in Tye’s ministry.

Terrance Wilson, 18 from OH

GWL THOUGHTS: + Terrance starts out by apologizing in advance for his lack of runs. No Sir, I will NOT accept that apology because it is not needed! Any experienced worship leader will realize that the anointing and the passion behind a performance far outweighs vocal acrobatics that are devoid of substance. His testimony is very deep, (don’t miss it), and his passion is sincere. He has a very rich tone and although he doesn’t come close to the vocal prowess of someone like Tonex , (remember when he yodeled???), he more than makes up for it by engaging the audience. You can tell this brother believes what he sings. You can tell his worship is real, and that in turn makes one want to worship right along with him. Something in his experiences has shaped him to bless God in song, with ALL of his heart…and the sincerity is so evident you can almost reach out and touch it! Improvement suggestion - Dancing? Those robot-like maneuvers have potential…but I’m not sure the space was that small that he couldn’t show us something?? Ah well…time will tell, but he is one of our current top picks for the moment!

In case you missed it, it was the Gospel shot heard around the YouTube world! Aspiring young gospel singers and dancers did simultaneous double-takes as one of the industry’s most energetic and creative artists sent them ALL a personal invitation to audition for his next project. Tye Tribbett himself sent out the call, (while giving listeners a brief preview of a new song), and before you could say: “Everybody JUMP”, bright hopefuls worshiped, did back-flips, and apparently some borrowed cameras in order to not miss this opportunity!

GWL is very much excited to see something like this happen mainly because we love the idea of the church (God’s people) embracing technology and using it in creative ways. It’s also a classy move when any artist makes room to inspire and give opportunities to the Next Generation, so kudos to Tye and his team for that!

Now….let’s get to the latest round! We may not be able to cover everyone, but here are some of the most notable recent entries:

Round 2 roundup:

Lomeika “Lo”, 26 from NJ

GWL THOUGHTS: +Say what?? Lo immediately show’s us the “next level” in auditions is HERE. Vocal ability aside, I have a feeling that if I was living in an IGLOO this young lady’s personality would be strong enough to have me consider buying a refrigerator! She comes across as naturally personable and not just putting on her “YouTube best” for the moment. Her attitude translates seamlessly into her singing as she maintains this aura from start to finish. With some contestants having what seems like 23 minute “introductions” her natural flow is a breath of fresh air! Improvement suggestion - Lo didnt dance, (although she told us she could). Her chops were well enough that this reviewer didn’t really NEED to see any flips, but I cant help but wonder how many folk may be judged lower by Tye simply because they didn’t demonstrate everything. Also, she changed key in the song. I know good and well that Mary Mary’s rendition of that song has many key changes…but I’ve not positive they were in the same spots…..(readers can help verify in the comments section).

Chris Graham, 20 from NC

GWL THOUGHTS: +With a 2:58 long introduction, you gotta have something REALLY SPECIAL in order to keep folks interest. Fortunately, Chris delivers, no joke. Chris has his “gospel swagger” on point…and it doesn’t seem to be an act, but a natural vibe. His vocals and his dancing are quite solid. No runs that venture into KeKe Sheard territory, but definitely not safe and lazy. In case you missed it in the 2:58 long intro, he’s apparently seen Tye and his group enough to know what they expect and apparently he’s up for the challenge. He reminds me most of former G.A. member Lionel…holding in down in the pocket. Improvement Suggestion – Um, gee..I dunno….maybe the (ALMOST) THREE MINUTE INTRO?? Lol!! Nossir. It was good and showed his humor and appreciation, and dedication, etc. It just almost caused me not to finish because of everyone else I had to review. Chris was definitely strong enough to make it all worth it…lets just pray that Tye agrees!

Jermaine “Jermano”, 28 from

GWL THOUGHTS: +Someone said on the comments his voice was “soulful”, and I’d tend to agree! He didn’t take too many risks but what he did , he did quite solidly. Surely he was in a nice controlled mellow worship mode. And is it just me, or did his cousin look a just a teeny bit like Tye’s wife, Ms. Shante?? Could be a sign… Improvement suggestion - O.k…..I said he didnt take many risks, but actually…he kind of did. Not “bad” at all, but the song was smooth…I’m talking mellow smooth. I’m talking, make’s me wanna relax or deeply worship smooth. So he must’ve been in a deep worship mode, right? Let’s follow along starting at 3:02…”stronger than mountains” YES!! “Deeper than Oceans…” Heading to the throne room now!!! “Reachessssss to me-Your phone is distracting me!!!” Um, what was that now??? Tye will probably get it, though. (It’s just the “probably” part in that sentence which represents the “risk” I was referring to)!!

Donovan, 20 from WI

GWL THOUGHTS: +Nice! Those with a trained ear will notice one thing…TONE. (And I’m not talking about him being “light-skinned-ed”). My brother has a SOLID tone. True, there wasn’t any crazy movements on his end, but it was enough to make me go from laying back tapping my foot to leaning forward and nodding my head. He didn’t spend too much time talking about his convictions…but he didn’t need to. I just felt something genuine. Any other witnesses to that? Improvement suggestions - Tye plainly said he didn’t want anyone “cocky”, and this brother is certainly far from that, perhaps a few centimeters too far. Experience has taught many all to well that there’s a fine line between “cockiness” and “knowing how awesome you REALLY are in God”. I guarantee you my brother, even if this Tye audition is not yet your season your God-given gift will take you FAR if you let him continue to use you! Stay confident in HIM! And for the rest of us, I suggest you look away from your screens during 1:07 – 1:11. Just trust me on that…(now on to our next pick..lol).

Jaysen, 20 from NY

GWL THOUGHTS: + Let’s see. “Obama is black”. “Pentecostals usually know how to shout”. And finally “its my passion to worship GOD, through everything i do”. The last quote comes directly off of Jaysen’s YouTube page, but ALL three statements are UNBELIEVABLY OBVIOUS!!!! By the end of the second song I didn’t know whether to praise, worship, or break into a shout! (I’ll probably do one of them each time I listen). The vid is unusually dark, but the message within is full of the Light. Nice job! Improvement Suggestion - Let there me (more) light. This time the natural time. Also, with a quality vid like this it would have been nice for him to said something about himself, (besides what is written in the comments). But hey…touch folk like that long enough and they’ll FIND you!

Blacklucy from ???

GWL THOUGHTS: + O.K…. this is a wonderful rendition of a song by Lena Horne. From The Wiz. And…. it has music! (One of the first contestants to do so, surprisingly). And…..it’s from The Whiz. Improvement suggestions - It has…music!!! A lot of it! Loud, drowning music! As a musician, I can appreciate the fact that sometimes music alone can usher you into the presence of The Wiz… the…um, yeah. Not that is wasn’t very beautifully done….it’s just a puzzling song choice for a Tye Tribbett audition. Tye did say he always wanted to be in a Broadway play, so maybe she’s on to something….

Julius, From TN

GWL THOUGHTS: + I can only think of one main thing that’s good about this particular audition. The fact that TYE is probably picking more than just one male vocalist/dancer leaves some hope for someone else. (This guy MUST get in). I could elaborate, but honestly if you don’t agree from just watching this video, than you probably don’t agree with anything I’ve ever typed. Improvement suggestions - What do you want me to say? “He dropped his sunglasses sometime between his 5th and 7th backflip”? Really???

Misty, 22 from CT

GWL THOUGHTS: + Just when I thought the men were positioned to dominate this competition…listen to Misty long enough and your eyes will get just that…(misty)! At first I thought it was a “safe” choice, but close your eyes and you can EASILY picture this young lady standing next to the likes of Angie and Demaris. TONE, TONE, TONE…is on POINT! And most impressively the well chosen riffs that she chooses to go over the song’s simple chord progression brings a freshness and life that does NOT suffer from pitch problems…at all! Suggestion Improvements- Presentation? hmm…she was straight chilling in the bed for her Tye Tribbett audition of a lifetime! I’ve heard of “laid back” but that was ultra-literal! Granted, she did explain it was 11:30pm. (She did not explain why 11:30 pm was the only time she had to record her video), but it really doesn’t matter she nailed the vocals. My only concern is that if Tye ends up getting a close call between two vocalists then presentation may play a part. Time will tell…

Imagine what it would have been like if Moses was able to text Pharoah, if Jonah was able to webconference his dreaded Ninevah sermon, or if Jacob was able to “block” Potipher’s wife from coming anywhere near his friend’s list!!

The truth of the matter is that awesome increase of knowledge, (specifically in the realm of “social media”), has dramatically allowed us to connect in ways that previous carriers of the gospel could only dream of!!

And speaking of DREAMS… how many of YOU involved in worship ministry would like to take it to the next level by being part of Tye Tribbett’s next project???? Thanks to the power of social media, and the many artists that are seeking to embrace it, you no longer have to have a cousin that was a roommate with the band member’s former manager that knows where you can meet “fill in the blank” to audition at the” right place and the right time”! Gospel singers and dancers that are interested now have the luxury of the “right place” being anywhere you can record video and send it to YouTube. And the “right time”? Anytime between NOW and July 1, 2010.

Tye once again set YouTube ablaze with his first personally posted video in what seems like forever. In addition to releasing a teaser snippet of a song from his upcoming project , he also sent the call out for gospel SINGER AND DANCERS worldwide to audition to be part of his next phase of music ministry.

I thought it was cool when TWITTER allowed me to personally bombard the actors from my favorite comedy, (The Office), with random jokes…..but an instant audition with a NATIONAL award winning artist is pretty special indeed! Tye’s not the first to do this, as Canton Jones recently concluded open submissions to be on his next project.

Round 1 roundup:

Ashley, 18 From GA

GWL THOUGHTS: +Very nice tone, one of the strongest initial vocalists, great control of MOST of the riffs,(like 95%) Improvement suggestion -Some riffs seemed to stray from the melody, but perhaps hearing them on top of a background track would help sort them out for the listener and give a bit more clarity as to what she’s really trying to do vocally.

Mitchell , from MI

GWL Thoughts: +He seems very genuine and sincere. Improvement suggestion -Seems very, very, nervous and unfortunately the pitch suffers. Our first clue of this is at :24 when he looks over his shoulder as if he’s borrowing the camera? Take your time…relax, and retape if necessary…it’s not live so you can keep trying until you’re comfortable!

Ashley, From DC

GWL Thoughts: +Love the conviction and sincerity! She definitely has the whole “GA vibe” in my opinion. She can also SING, no question about it. Improvement suggestions- She definitely changes key once or twice. If this was intentional, then it’s cool….if it WASN’T….then perhaps a background track would serve to help a little bit as kind of pitch guide. The potential is surely there though!

A.C., From SC

GWL Thoughts:+ Here I am to…WORSHIP…the song was not just a song for A.C. as he looked like he was knee deep in a personal worship moment throughout his first song. I doubt Tye would disapprove of that part…. Improvement suggestions - The second selection? Liandria Johnson has some HUGE shoes to fill, (high heels even). In order to do that song justice, you have to blow her out the water or make it so incredibly “your own” that people don’t get tempted to compare it to her version. Rather than subject yourself to that pressure, perhaps try something that more fittingly shows your range WITHOUT immediate comparison to an international finalist.

Jonathan, 20 from NJ

GWL Thoughts: + I must say he has one of the most perfectly controlled and consistent pitches of the first group of auditions. Kind of diggin’ the sweater, def a Tye style move. Improvement suggestions – At the risk of sounding like an umpire..”You’re Saaaaaaafe”, (or rather that song choice was safe). It was enough to show he can undoubtedly sing….but very few musical risks were taken. It will be up to Tye to see what he’d rather have…but as former Tye + G.A. keyboardist Parris Bowens once told me: “Tye would rather I take risks than not”.

Roosevelt, 21 from TN

GWL Thoughts: + “Wow”. So unique , I’ll say that backwards. “Wow”. The first thing to sprung to my mind when he started singing was “Sammy Davis Jr.”. I know, that sounds as weird as anything, but Sammy was one of the greatest, largely in part to his originality. Stayed in pitch throughout the song, has an original look and was very much creative with his riffs! And..he is the ONLY one so far in this singer/DANCER audition to actually DANCE! Improvement suggestions – um…..sorry. I’ve been thinking the last 8 minutes of one, but if I came up with one it would be “forced”. This was very well done.

GWL FINAL TIPS: DO YOU REALLY WANT TO “STAND OUT”?

THAT’s what we want!

WATCH TYE’S VIDEO AGAIN! Look at what he’s asking for. He very plainly said energetic singers AND dancers, (not singers OR dancers). My understanding is he wants someone that can do BOTH….so it’s puzzling why only one audition so far had dancing in it….

This in on VIDEO not live…so no need for excuses!!! If it’s a bad hair day, or you sprained your ankle 5 minutes ago, or if someone is coming to take their camera back…just wait and shoot the vid when you can give your BEST representation!! You have until July….

Nowhere in the rules did Tye say you CAN’T have a track. Of course you need to make sure your voice is prominent and not lost in the mix…but unless you are exceptionally talented and can handle singing a song with no accompaniment and STILL STAY IN PITCH…then I wouldn’t audition without having a tonal guide of some kind!

Keep it SIMPLE but not TOO simple….we wanna hear you riff, but not at the expense of the melody or the pitch. Also remember a child can sing the alphabet “straight”. Find some good middle ground!!

Most of us have been “there” before…. usually a song overheard on the radio or at a function will catch our ear and cause us to buy a particular artist’s CD. Many times when we fall in love with that artist’s project we learn that we are a bit “tardy for the party”, as the “new-to-u” artist has likely had a few prior releases that slipped under your radar unnoticed. So what do you do?? If you’re like me, you SCRAMBLE to find all previous efforts and CD’s, (from the mainstream releases to the youtube underground footage right on down to the demo tapes if available)!!! Most noticeably we often KICK OURSELVES while thinking “MAN…I could have been Jamming (worshiping/praising/etc.) to this for YEARS already”!!!

..if you want to avoid playing catch up later on, get the new Ashmont Hill RIGHT AWAY!!-GospelWorshipLeader.com

I haven’t been this motivated and excited to follow a Christian group since I ended up searching for Tye Tribbett’s underground CD release years ago!! The Ashmont Hill sound is nothing short of unique and unmistakable! Unique in the fact that if you wanted to find a group that perfectly matched their style, you’d be better off trying to match two snowflakes. Unmistakable in the fact that the frame of mind their music puts people is nothing less than 100%, grade A, undiluted WORSHIP! It’s unfortunately rare that a skillfully performed song could just usher me into worship on the first play, and Ashmont Hill is simply “bringing it” like they already know it was what they were divinely commissioned to do! Those in the industry are not blind to the vibrations this group has been resounding throughout the airwaves and the Christian community. Even Gospelpundit.com’s main man EJ has gone on record to call them “one of [his] new favorite groups”! So exactly what makes them special?? Read On!

Now, Just Who is Ashmont Hill?

Good question. I’d say in 6 words or less they are “The Next Big Thing in Worship”. The following is taken directly from their Bio:

And if ya don’t know…now ya know!

For decades many different genres of CCM have existed in the same family, yet remained distinctly separate. But where does one genre end and the other begin? Was Anointed all that different from Avalon? Where would Michael W. Smith be today without first drawing inspiration from Andraé Crouch? Are the audiences for CeCe Winans and Natalie Grant so markedly different? After all, don’t these Christian artists and styles live in the same “neighborhood”?

Today people from all walks of life make their homes and peaceably coexist in diverse communities like Ashmont Hill in the inner city of Boston, Massachusetts. How fitting that it should also be the home neighborhood and group name for a rising pop-gospel quartet—and family— that has bridged together their diverse influences under their one true passion: worship of their Creator.

“We actually love all types of Christian music,” says Phil Thompson, who formed Ashmont Hill out of Jubilee Christian Church, his father’s congregation in Boston, with sisters April Joy Thompson and Deborah Bullock, along with Deborah’s husband Will Bullock. “We grew up on The Winans and Commissioned, Me and April were BeBe & CeCe growing up.”

“But we also grew up on Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant,” echoes April. “And since then . We love listening to HillSong, Nichole Nordeman, Natalie Grant, Leeland—we love Leeland!”

The list goes on and on, and it becomes apparent from listening to Ashmont Hill’s latest release, Your Masterpiece, that the group’s love of diverse musical influences and congregational worship can’t be confined to a single music market.

“Our Dad instilled in us from the beginning the need to be a church without walls,” says April. “It really fed into our belief that the Body of Christ needed to hear the music that the Lord was inspiring within us..”

Indeed, it was the enthusiastic response to Ashmont Hill’s “amazingly seamless vocal blend” and “pureness of worship” that fueled the group’s broad audience appeal and first led to the recording of their self-titled debut in 2008 through record label, Axiom Records. That same year, before the album had even released, the group landed an opening slot on tour with Natalie Grant. They quickly built a following from the exposure and later garnered radio success through their Top 5 Inspo single, “Song of Glory.” Not a bad start, but the experiences proved a stepping stone for the development of the group’s follow-up.

“As we were coming into this album, we had a better idea of who we are as artists,” according to Phil, the group’s primary songwriter, who had a hand in writing 9 of the 13 tracks. “and I felt a lot more confident as a songwriter. The first album helped us learn what our sound is, but I feel the touring and radio experiences since helped us to step up our game and build upon that sound. We now have a clearer picture of who Ashmont Hill is. I really feel like we have grown leaps and bounds from the first record.”

Reteaming with producer Sal Oliveri, Ashmont Hill set out to record an album that offers both radio-friendly material and congregational anthems. They’ve accomplished the former with “Unstoppable,” an adaptation of Romans 8:31 set to adult contemporary with a Brit-pop flavor, and “Show My Love,” the album’s first radio single, penned by Ronnie Freeman as a response to Jesus and all he’s done.

“When I first heard [“Show My Love”], I knew it brought diversity to the record because it sounded more artist-driven. But there was also a sincerity and honesty to the lyric and melody that made it extra catchy. I knew it had radio potential as soon as we recorded it.”

The album also has its share of worshipful songs. Both “Sanctuary” and “Your Love Saves Me” are tender Hillsong-styled ballads that draws the heart into quiet thankfulness and surrender to the Lord. But it’s clear from talking with him that the title track, expected to be the next single, is the song that Phil is especially proud of.

“I was talking one day with my co-writer Zenzo [Matoga] about writing a song about the cross. And we came up with this amazing melody, but the lyrics just weren’t flowing that day. Stepping out of the room for a moment, I suddenly had a vision of Christ on the cross as a painting, and the word ‘masterpiece’ came to me. It then occurred to me that the cross was the canvas with which God created his greatest masterpiece. Everything flowed and clicked from there.”

April chimes in, “The first time I heard that song, I just wept. I caught Phil’s vision from the lyrics and it just gives me goose bumps: On the cross with blood, You painted Your masterpiece/Selfless love hanging on a tree FOR ME/Your outstretched arms is a portrait for all to see/Selfless love hanging on a tree FOR ME.”

When they’re not touring the country, all four members of Ashmont Hill are involved with full-time worship ministry at Jubilee Christian Church back home in Boston. It keeps the group grounded in their calling to spread the Word of God through song.

“God’s Word is all things to all people,” according to Phil. “It’s food for someone who’s hungry. It’s heat for those who are cold. We have to first satisfy people’s physical needs before they can be nurtured spiritually, and it’s our hope that our music can satisfy in both ways.”

April, an ordained associate minister at Jubilee, is equally passionate about the group’s unique calling. “I think we have the best job in the world, to worship and lead people into God’s presence through song. Our hearts and desire is to spread God’s love through music. We want to remind people that God didn’t send Jesus into the world to condemn it, but rather to save it. That He has a plan and purpose for all of our lives. So we want to spread God’s love throughout the Body of Christ, and really beyond it, because that’s what it means to be a church without walls.”

Or in the case of Ashmont Hill, a diverse group that knows no musical boundaries.

The GospelWorshipLeader Final Verdict:

Talent and originality aside…longtime GWL readers will know we give a Final Verdict that is based much more on true anointing, passion, and effectiveness in worship. In view of THOSE standards we’d like to confirm that Ashmont Hill definitely has……..

The Mermaid Factor!!!!

What do I mean by that? Remember the first time you heard the amazingly angelic tones coming from Ariel in her Disney debut???? Call me “special” but during rare moments of pure awesomeness I tend to break into part of the melody from “Part Of Your World”….( ah-ah-ahhhhhh-ah-ah-ahhhhhhh, ah-ah-ahhhhh,ah-ah-ah-ah-ahhhhhhhhh)!!! Laugh if you will, but most of you know EXACTLY what I’m talking about. More importantly the reason you know is because with this brilliant character, Disney broke the mold and shattered the preconceptions up to that point as to what a “quality immersive experience” is! Long before IMAX, and 3D and HD and even holodecks, (for the Trekkers), Disney began a movement that eventually made itself synonymous with deep and developed characters, quality entertainment and ridiculously exceptional soundtracks! How special is that, you ask?

Disney songs went on to win GRAMMYS repeatedly. Comparatively, Spongebob and friends have a looong way to go!

In much the same WAY, Ashmont Hill is quickly becoming synonymous with “a Worship Experience”. Unlike almost anything before them, their CD’s seem to double as God-planted transporter modules that will QUICKLY beam you closer to the throne room with each track! Just like most of us cant think of Tye without “energy”, or of Hezekiah without “modulations”, Ashmont Hill has carved their spot in the industry as the newest ambassadors of WORSHIP.

Visitors to famed gospel rapper Da’ Truth’s website were in for a surprise on November 2, 2009 when they were greeted by a sincere and heartfelt apology posted by the artist himself.

Make no mistake, our beloved brother has expressed his deep remorse and reaches out to his family and fans alike for “[our] forgiveness as [he] works toward reconciliation”. Amidst his requests for respect of his family’s privacy and his proclamation that he has “repented first to God, and then to [his] wife and family” it seems that the extremely successful artist has one main point that he wants everyone to know….

“My greatest hope is that my failures and short comings are seen for what they are – MY failings and not a reflection of the God that I proclaim. Despite my falling short, the resurrection and life changing power of the cross remains the same”

Let us certainly not judge our brother, but rather lift him up in prayer. His recent proclamation really accents a sobering message to the church as a whole. AS WE ENGAGE IN MUSIC MINISTRY WE MUST TAKE HEED TO THE MESSAGE OF 1 Corinthians:10

12Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

13There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

The truth is that many of us tend to hold up Gospel Artists , (and ministers in general) to almost “superhuman” levels that we tend to forget they are just as human and susceptible to sin as we are! Those of us that are actively involved in the music ministry may often get lulled into a false sense of security. We have to remember that the more damage that we do to the Devil’s kingdom through our ministry the more he sets his sights on us with efforts to destroy our testimony!

Watch out for SNEAK ATTACKS!

Let us not be taken unaware without our spiritual armor on!! And let us not forget to pray for the artists that are ever before us because we think “they must be set”….the Gospel Music Industry is being hit hard lately and scandals are erupting in churches everywhere. Let’s not condemn them but rather lift them up while providing a spiritual covering!

Da’ Truth has taken a sabbatical from ministry as he focuses on reconciliation. Have you ever had to deal with a scandal inside your music ministry? What actions were taken, (if any)?? How would you deal with such a situation if it happened inside your church?

Make your voice heard….

I don’t care if you’ve been in the music ministry for 50 years or 5 minutes, chances are you WILL eventually come to a place where the Lord’s answer will be needed to guide your decisions. From simple song selections to resolving difficult conflict situations with the worship team members themselves. We need our decisions to be based on what the will of God is…but HOW???

When faced with such decisions I encourage you to realize this….

Psalm 119:105 Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Let’s take ANY issue you might have….it works in any case, from a curiosity about the current day application of “tongues” according to the scripture, to the selection of proper attire for ministering on any given Sunday.

The WORD will bring light and illuminate to any situation that is dark,( in the dark there is lack of direction).

Now look at this—> e=mc2

What is that? Why, it’s the formula that represents the relationship between matter and energy! Is that truth? Yup! Can you now take the truth I’ve just given you and build an atom bomb? Most likely NOT…because even though you’ve found the source of the truth behind the matter and it’s spelled out very plainly in written word, that does not mean you have the revelation of the meaning of the truth, even though it is referenced before you in plain written words. So…how do we unlock the power and potential of that truth? How do we discover the revelation of it’s application?

We could go on what we’ve heard other people say….but even though our answer would have elements of truth, it might be far from accurate. (case in point, someone told me e=mc2 “Einstein’s theory of relativity”. It’s actually NOT)!

We could go on what “experts” say that have devoted time to matter…this is much better than blindly trusting the non-experts, but not as perfect a perfect source as…

Going to the Author of the equation directly! There is no better source for enlightenment of intended interpretation of a given word….than to the one that spoke the word! Sorry to say though, Einstein is dead….

being dead leaves a terrible taste in your mouth...

But Jesus LIVES!!!!

oh, yeah....now what???

Once again, Psalm 119:105 Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Imagine being stuck in a dark desert with many trails, many exits, and many potential paths. If you cant see, you have no chance of navigating! The Word is the LIGHT! Turn on the LIGHT in that situation and what do you have? A well lit, unfamiliar path, smack dab in the middle of a potentially confusing place!

So....it's daylight...but which way should we go?

Now check THIS out….

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will GUIDE you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Saints, we need to realize that not only do we need to search the scriptures for the light of the TRUTH (to shine on our “path” a/k/a possible directions in life)…we need the Spirit of truth, (as mentioned in John 16:13) to be our spiritual GUIDE!!!

PROVERBS 3:5,6
Trust in the Lord with all thy heart, AND LEAN NOT UNTO YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING, [or even my testimony, or cousin Pookie's opinion, whatever...] in all thy ways acknowledge Him…
and HE SHALL (WILL,WILL,WILL) direct your paths!

When I want some truth from the Lord I remind myself that HE is the Author and the best source for a clear answer. I bury my own opinion pray for his instruction and take his Word literally. Every time, he answers!
This is what led me to my experience…and it is the biblical standard for gaining insight into the truth of the Word.

What’s good people of God?? As you may know from one of my previous posts, I think this is just the ULTIMATE New Year’s song! Tye Tribbett and GA teamed with Israel and New Breed on New Year’s Eve in 2008 to sing “I made it Over” a fantastic “brought-me-through” style song with very accessible lyrics and depth!

2009 , here I come, i made it over!

Well, for all those that wanted more….here it is! This time around it was New Year’s eve, 2009 at VICTORY CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL. and even though Tye was a bit hoarse, it wasn’t anything a simple key change couldn’t fix. (Musician’s note: I believe he went down a whole step from A flat).

Perhaps it was the rough year, perhaps it was the more strained economy, or maybe the higher gas prices. Something about this year’s version seems a bit more….thankful , there’s a stronger feeling of “I pressed to get here”. This praise is even more intense because we all know it was GOD ALONE that brought us through!

The verses are just a little different than last year, so if you’d like lyrics, feel free to request them in the comment section. As I said before, I encourage Worship leaders to customize the lyrics just a bit to make it even more personal!

Since so many people are asking for this song, I think I might post an instrumental version shortly so you can either rehearse to it or sing with it! (Let me know in the comments if this is something you’d be interested in).

In any case remember the no matter how big the obstacle, no matter how big the opposition, through the grace and mercy of our Lord, we can make it over! (need a witness, just ask Mr. Obama… )

O.k. ya’ll go ahead and click play….it’s 7 minutes long, plenty of time to get lost in the praise!

Here’s a backstage view of a great New Year’s song I’m going to teach our praise and Worship ministry for our New Year’s Eve service. This video was recorded last year at Faithful Central Bible Church and over 14,000 people attended!

Gospel Artist Tye Tribbett and Greater Anointing are singing the song along with Israel Houghton and New Breed. Look for a nice transition into “New Season” (A timeless classic for praise and worship). A user named “Quisto” was happy enough to give me the full lyrics, so if you’d like them just leave a comment!

Note once again, less is more…not only is it fairly easy to teach, the repetition and simplicity makes it easy for the congregation to grab hold and personalize the material! Songwriters and worship leaders take note!! Keep on Praising!
