It's nice to know that the program I worked in with USGS in the E1 building in Reston in the 1970's is now out in public and I like to think that I helped it get there. But how about giving it a name that means something to the ordinary earth scientist like, "Global Monitoring" or "Global Change" or "Global Sensitive Change Monitoring" or "Change Alert Program (CAP)". As an old aerial photo type, to me the word "fiducial" refers to a reference mark on the edge of an aerial photograph. As long as we are trying to be clear about the purpose and accomplishments of the program, how about giving it a striking and understandable name. Chuck Robinove, formerly Associate Manager of the EROS Program

Hi !

I found a very interesting way of getting the kids involved in Geography!!!
It’s called Little Passports. This is a program where the kids receive a real mail package from two (virtual) friends who travel the world and send to your kid information about the country they visit. The package contains of a letter, photos, games and activities. Fun and educational!
A really BIG HIT!

Space and Airborne Systems is a division of Raytheon, not its partner. Raytheon Missile Systems is the division that usually develops missiles, but GPS-degraded guidance concerns space and airborne systems too.

I found the survey to be deceptive, poorly constructed, and nearly impossible to navigate. There were no geography questions; only a few obtuse questions about your perception of geography. It seemed more like a test in how much inanity the participant would put up with before they finally gave up in frustration. It reminded me of the questions that were asked in the Men in Black movie, "We're here because you are looking for the best of the best of the best, sir." which means no purpose whatsoever, except to see if anyone like me complains about the stupid quiz.

If you go to this on Google Earth (not maps) (lat: 40.45, lon: 93.74) you can go back into the historical imagery and see that it was under construction on 4/13/2005 and completed on 5/29/2005. There are a bunch of trucks, a white substance, and a water pond (for mixing the paint) in the 4/2005 image and the figure appears about 2/3 complete. By the 5/2005 image, the figure is done and the construction area is cleaned up.
