I might be alone in this thought but the first half of 2011 didn’t feel that incredible in terms of game titles but things sure picked up in the second half. I tend to stick to triple A titles in my games and 2011 has been the hardest to keep up with because of the sheer number of amazing games that were released.

I have received more hate mail in 2 months of Modern Warfare 3 than I did in the entirety of Black Ops. It’s not because I’m better at Modern Warfare 3 or that XMG rolls over the publics with ease, although we do, it’s because Modern Warfare 3 introduced gold clan tags and custom clan titles.

Every time we get into a room and people notice the gold clan tags it elicits 2 reactions: one is that of purely flaccid rage. “Oh look at XMG they suck **** while they ***** each other’s ***** and then ***** in a box of Oreos.” Or two they can’t hide their insane jealousy that we are in a “clan” and they are not. “People in clans are **** at this game and they suck **** while they ***** each other’s ***** and then ***** in a box of Oreos.” I’m not sure why they both end that way but they do.

In Black Ops we [XMG] really didn’t run the same tag it was usually some form of food like “Clam” or “Ribs” or “Beer”. People knew we were playing together but there wasn’t the stigma of being in a clan. Now that we have these status symbols of the illusive golden clan tag that hardly anyone in MW3 has, it has put a target on us whenever we enter a room. Everything we do in the game in now magnified 100%, if you killed 5 people from the same spot you are now hardcore camping in a corner and that is the only way you got any kills. If you moved around and killed people from their flank you are now a 1337 H4xzor who has a modded Xbox. God forbid any XMGer is on the opposite team sporting their gold clan tag, that is an instant team kill [a moot point now that ricochet has been introduced]. It is almost impossible to be a group of average to above average players using strategy to beat 6 other players.

It’s like the other people feel so threatened by the gold tags that they have to say the most hateful thing they can think of right off the bat before the game even starts so they feel like they at least got that in before they lost or quit the game early, it’s usually the latter. What’s even better is that 99% of the time no one on the XMG team can even hear them because we are in party chat. Now, I can hear them because I play with a Turtle Beach headset and have my voice settings set to play through the headset and the speakers, so I can hear the other team as back ground noise but with the headset I can clearly hear them if they speak loud enough and trust me, these angry little men/boys are plenty loud.

The best thing we can do is to beat them playing our style of game and then when they send hateful, bigoted, racists, and homophobic messages is to send them a nice message back, I like to send something like: “That’s great little guy, thanks for the info. If you keep playing you’ll get there someday Champ!” A message like that eats away at their soul like pouring salt on a slug. Their brain will slowly melt out of their head and drip onto the Mountain Dew: Code Red stained floor below. Of course by this point I have reported them for multiple things like in game voice, text message and most likely something brilliant in the XBL profile.

With all that said we do, on occasion, get compliments on the funny clan title or get the “man, those guys are good” statements from the other side. We will just keep on doing what we do and play as a team sporting our gold “XMG” clan tag and whatever brilliantly comedic 14 character phrase I can come up with while we crush the spirits of angry little kids everywhere…

I know that we have all met the frustrating publics on xboxLIVE and the Playstation Network. In fact those people are the reason XMG is successful. We have all grown tired of dealing with the public idiots out there who seem to be on a never ending quest to promote stupidity & douchebaggery (to steal a word from Mr.Rutherford‘s Online Dictionary). Online gaming stupidity comes in many forms there are the…

Cloud Killers, these are people who spend the entire game shooting up in the air or spinning in circles in the middle of the street. I always imagine that in real life this person bears a striking resemblance to the character Sloth from the Goonies. I can just see them looking straight up, laughing & laughing as they spin round & drool just slids down onto their man bib. The only thing goofier than the cloud killer would be his idiot cousin…the Ground Killer (self explanitory), And somtimes these two are the same person swapping from clouds to dirt to clouds to dirt…& the cycle continues until their mom finally makes them go to bed.

Then there are the The Non-Killers, who spend the whole game staring at the same wall without moving, only to be killed, spawned & rekilled over & over again causing everyone else to carry their load. They usually finish the game with an amazing 0/25 kill/death score & are most likely passed out in their recliner with Mountain Dew pouring into their laps as the game continues. I only pray that they wake up thinking that they urinated themselves while they slept!

We cannot forget The Team Killers, who for some reason think that it is tremendously fun to run around the map shooting team mates & frustrating all those unfortunate souls who were unlucky enough to be randomly assigned to their team. I’m still puzzling over why Modern Warfare 3 stopped using the “Boot after 3 team kills” rule! Come on Infinity Ward…I blame you!

There are also The Keeps You From Being a Killer, this special person loves to just stand in front of you, hop up & down & locking you into a corner not allowing you to move. All of these tactics of stupidity are meant to keep you from being a killer & are great at getting you both killed by the enemy…loads of fun!

But recently I was introduced to a whole new type of “xboxLIVE public stupidity”.

The SELF KILLER! What kind of person if this, you might be asking yourself. Well let me educate you on this new breed of stupid. The other night after loosing 2 community players, from what had been an ALL XMG room we were blessed with 2 publics (playing split screen from one Xbox) who took our frustrations with public players to a new high & our hope for the human race to a whole new low.

These were the self killers, who would intentionaly seek out your bouncing bettys & claymores, lay in front of them or stand beside them, shoot said explosive device thus killing themselves. This was, in what we could only assume, an attempt to prevent our team from winning & they were very successful at it.

So, what have we learned from this? We have learned (or more likely been reminded) that some people are just plain stupid. And sadly, despite our current advances in the field of medicine, there is no cure for stupid!

Dear Santa,

As you know I have been an avid gamer since the mid 80′s and you have always been good about bringing me sweet gaming gifts at Christmas. But this year I have a pretty specific wish list so I thought I’d shoot it to you early, as many of the items on it will likely be hard to come by.

Before I share the list with you I should tell you that I have been playing alot of BATTLEFIELD 3 and everything on my list can be found in that game…so you might want to play it to get a more clear idea of what it is that I am looking for. Oh, and if you get onto xbox LIVE, look me up…you know the gamertag.

Anyway here it is…

I would love to get my hands on a knife that can cut through a chain link fence like pretzel sticks. I believe it’s called the Jackhawk 9000.

A butane torch/compact welding rig that when applied to any part of a vehicle automatically repairs ALL of that vehicles damages. This would come in handy when fixing all of the dents & dings that my lovely wife has put into the new truck! Plus I have a daughter who is about to turn 16…so this is a big one!

A medical kit that when thrown onto the ground heals everyone within a 10 ft radius. I cannot tell you how often something like that would come in handy.

Ohhh and I’d love to be able to run for miles and miles without stopping or even slowing down!

A compact flashlight that can blind a man from a mile away…in the middle of the day.

So there you have it. Thanks Santa!

Sincerely,

JUDGE211
