Have you made a new year’s resolution in 2019? Does your resolution include a version of getting
healthier, taking better care of yourself, finding a way to de-stress? If it does, Greenprints Alliance
would like to encourage you take a ride along the trail system and maybe beyond to explore our
fabulous city. And, if you don’t have a bicycle we have a few we’d like to share with you!

In April 2017 we launched and currently sponsor the bike-share program operated by Zagster. We
recently had an opportunity to review the data they’ve captured to see how the program has been
adopted by our residents. It is clear, Woodstock loves this bike program! Since its inception Woodstock
riders have collectively taken 5,642 trips, ridden 20,108 miles and has 2,487 members and our ridership
is growing over time. That 20,000 miles is almost an entire trip around the world! Now, that’s
impressive Woodstock, especially considering the program launched with just three stations and ten
bikes.

But more impressive than the number of trips, or users is that 1,256,750 calories you’ve burned in that
time frame. You don’t have to look far to find studies that support the positive benefits of cycling on
your health. The benefits promote the low impact exercise and seem almost endless including
everything from weight loss, disease prevention, increased strength and flexibility, to better mental
health. We encourage you to consider discussing it with your own health care partners.
The other fascinating data that Zagster shared with us is that the current limitations of the trail system
haven’t stopped you from continuing your ride. Our users have taken the bikes all over Towne Lake and
Woodstock including some homes in the area, various points along highway 92, and a popular stop
seems to be Olde Rope Mill Park. So, as we look to expand the trail system with the City of Woodstock
we will be looking at those points along your exploratory routes.

We know we are a little biased, but if this encourages you to take a ride and listen to the leaves rustling
in the trees, the sound of rubber on the trail, feeling the wind on your face, you can find a bike at one of
the three stations adjacent to our current trail network. Stations are located at the trail head at
Woofstock Dog Park; the corner of Elm Street and Market Street adjacent to the Noonday Creek Trail;
and along Arnold Mill Road near the entrance to the Rubes Creek Trail.

Riders can join the program through the Zagster membership app. Currently, the first hour of the trip is
free, and then it costs $3 per hour after the free period expires up to $24/day. On weekends one
additional hour is free. Riders must be 18 years old. Greenprints is looking into additional stations with
sponsorship opportunities at it reviews the program with our current partners.

We hope to see you along the trail enjoying a few moments of freedom on two wheels!

October 24, 2017 – City Officials, together with Greenprints Alliance, announced plans for a new park in Woodstock on Monday evening. The yet unnamed park will be located off Trickum Road on the east side of the City, where limited park and recreation opportunities exist.

The City has acquired a total of 40.7 acres east of Trickum road, and local nonprofit Greenprints Alliance recently acquired 36.32 acres on the north side of Little River. At the regular meeting of Mayor and City Council on Monday, October 23, 2017, City Council officially approved the purchase of an additional 24.42 acres. When fully assembled, the land will total just over one hundred acres and will provide local residents with passive recreation opportunities. While final amenities are open to stakeholder input and discussion, the Greenprints Plan, approved by the City in 2008, contemplates multi-use trail on a portion of this site.

The benefits provided by this new park include:

Open space preservation

Protection of Little River and the Etowah River Basin

Additional trails with a possible canoe launch site

Passive recreation opportunities

“We are excited to preserve this land from future development and make it a park on the east side of our City” says Mayor Donnie Henriques.

Colin Ake, Chair of the Greenprints Board of Directors says “Greenprints Alliance is dedicated to getting people outdoors by bringing a vibrant trail system to life. We are excited to see our acreage as a part of a larger park and are eager to work with the City of Woodstock to plan and implement the park.”

“The topography of the property is suitable for a passive park with amenities including trails, pavilions, and playgrounds,” says Woodstock’s Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser. “We are eager to hear from local residents and other stakeholders at our upcoming public input meeting.” The City of Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department will host a Public Input session, scheduled for Monday, December 4 at 6:00p.m., at the Chambers at City Center, 8534 Main Street, where the public is invited to attend and express their ideas on the park.

About Greenprints Alliance: Greenprints Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on inspiring people to get outdoors by creating a trail system that promotes wellness and connects community through outdoor activities and living. They are focused on expanding and supporting the trail system throughout and connecting to Cherokee County. https://greenprintsalliance.org

The City of Woodstock will host a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Towne Lake Pass Trail at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday March 4, 2017. The ceremony will be held at Woofstock Park (the City’s dog park) trail head located at 150 Dupree Road. Plans for the Towne Lake Pass Trail were completed in 2016. The City of Woodstock and Cherokee County recently issued a joint resolution dedicating the Towne Lake Pass Trail “in Loving Memory of Council Member Mary Tessa Basford”.

The Joint City/County Resolution states “Council Member Basford was very instrumental in the support and implementation of the Greenprints Plan. Her leadership, love for family, community and those she so graciously served in a legacy too inspirational not to be immortalized.”

Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser stated that “Tessa Basford was an incredible advocate of the Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department and the Greenprints Trail System. It is a fitting tribute that the Town Lake Pass Trail be dedicated in her memory.”

Woodstock City Manager Jeff Moon added “besides Tessa’s commitment to the City of Woodstock, she was a long time HOA Board Member for Deer Run and involved in the greater Towne Lake area also. It’s very appropriate for this section of trail to be dedicated to her memory.”

The two-mile long trail will provide a connection from downtown Woodstock to just North of Woodstock High School on Town Lake Hills South Road. Construction will commence in Spring 2017 and will be completed in early to mid-2018 depending on weather.

“I expect that this will be one of our most utilized trails. It will allow people from the Towne Lake area to be able to walk to and from downtown Woodstock to eat dinner and shop” says Mayor Donnie Henriques.

February 29, 2016
Greenprints Alliance announces the seventh annual Trailfest event will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 on the Resurgens Orthopaedics Community Stage at Elm Street Cultural Arts Village in Downtown Woodstock adjacent to the start of the Noonday Creek Trail, which totals approximately 1.5 miles of multi-use concrete trail. The day’s events will start with the Northside Hospital Cherokee 5K race and 1 mile Fun Run, live music, food, beer and community.

Live music will start on the event green following the conclusion of the races. Headlining this year’s event is The Delta Saints (www.thedeltasaints.com) and the roster of additional musical performers will be announced shortly.

On The Delta Saints’ new album, Bones, the Nashville-based band have stripped their roots/blues sound down to its essence, having rearranged the elements into something uniquely their own. Steeped in rock ‘n’ roll’s building blocks – country, R&B, soul and gospel – The Delta Saints’ second full-length effort explores influences like Jack White, The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses and Led Zeppelin. Producer/engineer/mixer and Third Man Records alum, Eddie Spear [Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, Neil Young] provided a ghostly, psychedelic atmosphere at Nashville’s Sputnik Sound studios, yielding a sound unlike anything they have created before.

The Northside Hospital Cherokee 5K race will be an out and back race and awards will be given to the top 3 male and female finishers and overall age group finishers. The 1 mile Fun Run is for children under 12 years of age. Registration details will be announced soon. Several food vendors, beer vendors, and outdoor recreational activities will also be available for participants.

While Trailfest always makes for a Saturday of exciting music, socializing and camaraderie, there is a greater purpose. Trailfest is the single largest annual fundraiser for Greenprints Alliance, a non-profit organization based in Woodstock, GA, which has an annual public and private contribution goal of $100,000 to advocate for and fund green infrastructure projects as part of the award-winning Greenprints Master Plan of trails, pathways and inter-connectivity around Woodstock, GA and Cherokee County. Trailfest draws more than 2,000 people each year. Festivities run from 8 AM – 8 PM, rain or shine. Ample parking is available all around Downtown Woodstock.

March 19, 2015
Greenprints Alliance, working in conjunction with Woodstock Parks and Recreation, has successfully advocated for the allocation of $20,500 from the City of Woodstock for development of new trail construction on the Avalanche Trail at Olde Rope Mill Park in Woodstock. Avalanche is the original 6-mile loop in the Taylor Randahl Memorial Mountain Bike Trail system, constructed in 2010.

The Woodstock City Council continued to show their total support for trails in Woodstock by voting unanimously, 4-0, to approve the funding. “The new trail segments on Avalanche will improve the trail user’s experience, eliminate trail erosion problems, and increase safety,” said Greenprints Alliance Executive Director, Gary Moore.

Project highlights include relocating the entrance further inside the park and away from the busy parking entrance. The new entrance trails will allow for separate entrance and exit segments, better traffic flow, and improved routing for racing events. The new entrance trails will also be located next to the new permanent facility restrooms, also funded by the City.

“SORBA Woodstock does a great job of raising the funds necessary to build and maintain great single track trails, but this is a situation where the City was able to step in and lend a hand at the right time and make a big difference,” added David Potts, Board Chairman for Greenprints Alliance.

Greenprints Alliance and SORBA Woodstock are working with Trail Dynamics to complete the new segments in May 2015. Completion of this project will coincide with the official opening of the new 5-mile trail at Rope Mill, located on the north side of Little River. The new trail features professionally designed and constructed single-track mountain bike trails at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

December 9, 2014
The Greenprints Alliance Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Gary Moore as the organization’s new Executive Director. Greenprints Alliance is a privately funded non-profit organization based in Woodstock, Georgia that works with the City of Woodstock, businesses and community partners to raise awareness and support to help realize the Greenprints Master Plan vision, developed by the City of Woodstock in 2008. The Foundation Partnership with Premier Energy, which was completed earlier this year, provided the funding for the position.

David Potts, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Greenprints Alliance, stated, “Gary has the passion, trail management experience, and operational skills that Greenprints Alliance is looking for, plus a strong connection to the Woodstock mountain biking trail community. His high standards and experience will help move the organization forward to implement the next phase of trail development.”

“Mayor Donnie Henriques and the Woodstock City Council showed great vision in commissioning the Greenprints Project. A large-scale, 60+ mile multi-use trail system connecting neighborhoods, parks, schools and businesses will fundamentally change the way Woodstock residents live and play,” commented Moore. “The Greenprints Alliance provides the focus and resources to ensure Woodstock realizes this vision and takes full advantage of our City’s natural beauty; becoming a healthier and even more desirable community in the process. I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to drive this effort forward.”

Moore will succeed Jennifer Stockton, who served as the organization’s volunteer Executive Director for the past three years. “Gary arrives at a critical time to work with our board of directors to help ensure the Greenprints Alliance advocacy effort lives up to the community’s expectations and is delivered equitably around Woodstock,” states Brian Stockton, Ex-Officio Board Member.

A Woodstock resident along with his wife and two daughters since 1995, Moore brings to the position his experience as a nonprofit board member with the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) and Southern Off Road Bike Association (SORBA) Woodstock Chapter, where he currently serves as Trail Director for the highly regarded Blankets Creek Mountain Biking Trails and Woodstock’s Taylor Randahl Memorial Mountain Biking Trails. Moore was commissioned to design and build the Dupree Park Family Mountain Biking Trails in Woodstock this past summer and is an inaugural member of the volunteer-based Woodstock Trail Watch Program.

Greenprints Alliance has advocated for and/or completed several multi-use trail projects in 2014 including:

·Town to Creek and Noonday Creek Trail, May 2014

· Woodstock Elementary School WellStar Health Track, August 2014

· Dupree Park Family Mountain Bike Trail, October 2014

Upcoming Greenprints Alliance advocacy projects for 2015 include:

·Completion of Connecting Bridge for Town to Creek/Noonday Creek Trail to Woofstock Dog Park, and Trailhead location

·Construction to begin on the Towne Lake Pass Trail into Towne Lake

About Greenprints Alliance

The mission of Greenprints Alliance is to advocate for a sustainable green space and trail network, enhancing and preserving the City of Woodstock’s community, natural and economic resources for all generations, by promoting the benefits of a green infrastructure system to the general public. We also work to implement the City of Woodstock’s vision adopted through The Greenprints Project plan document and any similar green infrastructure systems adopted by the City of Woodstock or adjacent jurisdictions.
August 5, 2014
Woodstock, August 5, 2014 – Greenprints Alliance, a non-profit trail advocacy organization based in Woodstock, GA, announces the establishment of a ten year Foundation Funding Partnership with Premier Energy, a Woodstock-based international business. The Foundation Funding will allow GPA to hire an Executive Director and begin marketing and soliciting public and private funding to help complete the award-winning Greenprints Master Plan, an extensive study commissioned by the Woodstock City Council in 2006. Upon completion, the Greenprints Master Plan will provide a network of multi-use trails, mountain bike trails, connections to public parks, alternative transit along 60+ miles in and around Woodstock, and will connect area neighborhoods and public parks.

“Across the nation, cities are promoting healthy lifestyles through public access to parks and trails, while also stimulating economic development. The Greenprints Master Plan of trails is a great example of what can happen when public and private sectors work together,” said Randy Davis, President and CEO, of Premier Energy. “My business partner, Skip Noll, and I selected Woodstock as the international headquarters for our business and our homes because of the healthy, walkable lifestyle. We are thrilled to see this visionary project come to life. The completed trail segments are transforming Woodstock and connecting people with nature. Our Foundation Partnership will help build the structural organization needed to guide the completion of the Master Plan.”

Greenprints Trails completed to date are:

· 1.5 mile Town to Creek Trail/Noonday Creek Trail multi-purpose trail segment

· Little River Pedestrian Bridge at Old Rope Mill Park

· 1/2 mile Trestle Rock multi-purpose trail segment at Old Rope Mill Park

· 10 miles trails at the Taylor Randahl Memorial Mountain Bike Trails

· 1/8 mile Mountain and Hiking Trail at Elm Street Cultural Arts Village

Greenprints Trails funded and under construction are:

· 2 mile Towne Lake Pass multi-purpose trail segment

· Pedestrian Bridge Connecting Noonday Creek/Towne Lake Pass to Woofstock Park Trailhead

· 1 mile Dupree Park Family Mountain Biking Trail

· 1/3 mile Dupree Park asphalt Community Health Trail

· 1/4 mile asphalt WellStar Community Health Trail at Woodstock Elementary School

· 6 mile trail expansion at the Taylor Randahl Memorial Mountain Bike Trails

· 3/4 mile Rubes Creek Trail multi-purpose trail segment

The completed trails along with upcoming funded trail segments will soon be home to outdoor recreational groups, trail programming, and community themed events and festivals.

“Randy and Skip are among the early believers who want to help the Greenprints Master Plan of trails begin to transform Woodstock,” says Greenprints Alliance Board of Directors Chair David Potts. “This partnership will hopefully inspire other private corporate and individual donors, both new and returning, because while state and federal grants may be available, communities often struggle to come up with the required local match, and that is where our private sector partners, such as Premier Energy, can make the pivotal difference in making these trails happen.”

This Foundation Partnership joins previous funding totaling over $5.5 million, received from the Cherokee County Parks Bond, the City of Woodstock, WellStar Health System, and numerous individual private donations, all to support the realization of the Greenprints Master Plan.

About Greenprints Alliance:

In 2007, through the vision of Mayor Donnie Henriques and the City Council, a park master plan was commissioned by the City of Woodstock. Through a citizen-based planning process, Ecos Environmental Design produced the award winning Greenprints Master Plan, utilizing the miles of riparian and natural corridors in our area to lay out a 60+ mile network of multi-use trails connecting present and future greenspaces and providing a different mode of travel within our city.

The mission of Greenprints Alliance is to advocate for a sustainable greenspace and trail network which enhances the City of Woodstock’s community, natural and economic resources for all generations by promoting the benefits of a green infrastructure system to the general public. We also work to implement the City of Woodstock’s vision adopted through The Greenprints Master Plan document.
