The Board Room was less awesome than I expected, but that could well have been the weird hours I was there. I still don't regret having spent the money for the ribbon.I played in some #gamesondemand  indie games, including a glorious Sagas of Icelanders game run by +Jason Morningstar and a great Dungeon World game run by +Jeremy Friesen. This event is now on my must-do list for future Origins. In the board room, I also got to play Conquest of Nerath, one of WotC's D&D boardgames. It plays like Axis & Allies, but faster and with wizards and dragons and better balance. I also spent some time with GMT's Napoleonic Wars, which I loved. We didn't have time to finish the game, but I did have the chance to, as Kutuzov, hand Nappy his fancy hat.I regret not getting a chance to play Federation Commander. And Rex. No game of Rex was successfully run until Sunday afternoon when I was on my way out the door as far as I can tell. Old standards Barley's and the North Market are solid as always. At Barley's try the handcrafted brews and the Sauerkraut Balls. At North Market, Nida's has what's widely considered the finest Thai in town, and of course Jeni's Ice Cream is a must-try. Other options are very respectable; I particularly like the lamb curry from the Indian place.For drinks, if you're into beer you can spend many hours exploring Barley's many brews. There's also the Elevator Brewery, a coupld of blocks south on High Street. They have a knockout Caesar's salad complete with anchovies and do very good beer as well. Gordon Biersch, near the hockey arena, is a national chain and less interesting, but they still do some very fine German styles, in particular a great Hefeweizen.If you're a Whisky fan head over to Deepwoods for a good Scotch and Bourbon selection. Farther afield you have Barrel 44, which has the best whisky and whiskey selection in many a town, and the Brothers Drake Meadery, which has some very fine meads to get your Viking on with.There's always Big Bar on 2, where lots of Origins-goers interact in the evenings. Better place to socialize with fellow gamers than to eat or drink at, in my opinion.Avoid: The Hyatt Food Court for anything but breakfast. Also Einstein Brothers Bagels in the Hyatt, which is pretty crappy and overpriced.
