Traffic Rules

How I wish the Land Transportation Office (LTO ) and the Road Traffic Assistance Office ( RTA) of our city would strictly penalized motorist who are violating traffic rules and orders. For instance in the case of wearing motorcycle helmet for driver and riders of motorbikes. Just this afternoon, I personally witnessed the collision of a motorbike and a cab along the busy streets in the market. Thank God their speed were slow , the motorbike driver only suffered scratches on his arms and legs. I really wondered what hindered the authorities to firmly implement traffic rules. What do you think?

I missed our house already. Our simple abode for more than 15 years.... the place where our kids grow . Honestly, I wanted to go back and start a new beginning by repainting our walls and replacing our tiles. Honestly, I don't believe Typhoon Sendong will come back and washed away again our place. We were not there when the flash flood happened.So going back would be easy emotional . The only problem is my in-laws wouldn't want us to go back. They are afraid for us... what shall I do?

Lost without a map

Instead of going east we went to the west !!!

It's a big advantage if you have handheld gps in our vehicle during long travel . When we went to Davao City for a 5-day vacation last summer, we were lost 3x . Why? Not only because Davao is a big city ( I think the biggest city in the whole world) but mainly because we didn't have a map when we went there. My hubby was confident enough to remember places we supposed to visit. We proved to ourselves that we are not getting any younger and that as we aged memory loss in inevitable.

Now that we have decided to spend a weekend in another city, I will make sure we have an EZ-map on hand.

I am so sorry if I kept on posting about the latest killer flood that struck our city. To be honest, I can not get over that tragic event... much more that we have flood victims evacuees here in our sanctuary. I am even planning to create a blog dedicated to the stories of survival of some of my friends and relatives. Anyway, just this morning my son reminded me again that if not of their school Christmas Party , we were not able to save our Home theater and it's subwoofer speakers from the flood . All our home appliances and gadgets were damaged except of the netbook and camera in my bag and the sound system my son brought to school.

Why can't we not appeal CDO contractors to help with the clearing of the flooded areas?

Me and my hubby went back to our subdivision yesterday to see the progress of the clean-up drive of the city government. We were discouraged to see the same trash dumped at the sidewalk of the roads. The place is still muddy brought by the waterline cut by some residents. To be honest, I missed our house. I want to go back and start renovating it. Changing the ceiling and the Floor , bedroom and We tried to Bathroom Tile would be my first priority. I hope the city government will fast track the clearing operation. I saw only one grader and mini-dumptruck doing a big task. Where are the other heavy equipments? There are lots of contractors in our city... why can't our mayor , or the DPWH appeal to them for help?

As I am writing this post… It’s waging war inside the subdivision of my mom where we are temporarily sheltered . I thought this year’s fireworks will decreased considering the tragedy that displaced more than 10 thousand families and claimed 1,300 lives. MY heart is breaking … and left me wondering if these people who spent almost a hundred Thousand for fireworks had donated something for the flood victims. While they are burning their moneys … there are lots of people who needed food and medicine inside the evacuation center. There are people who lost their families in the flood and are grieving. There are lots of people who do not have drinking water.. no decent clothes to wear and have not eaten a good meal for more than 2 weeks now. I can not help but cry now…

The city government under Emano, in power for the last 13 years, has much to answer for.

It will have to account for the death of more than 1,000 people, the disappearance of more than 1,000 others who may have been washed out to sea, perhaps never to be found by their grieving families, and the displacement of more than 10,000 families.

And it will have to answer for the dumping of the unclaimed bodies in the city’s garbage dump—an unconscionable act that is the height of insensitivity.

No one in Cagayan de Oro is without friends and family who perished. My family was spared, but I will now live with the memory of so many friends who did not survive the devastation.

I will remember the Yrastorza family—Joaquin, Maria Sagrario (Mercader), and their daughter Tish, who died embracing one another. I will remember my cousin Joann Dingcong, who never made it to the rooftop of her own house in Emily Homes. But where could she have gone? All the rooftops in that subdivision were underwater in seconds.

I will remember Nieves Pacana Arcadio, the daughter of a former Cagayan de Oro mayor. She never made it because she could not fit in an overhead window that her niece Jana had broken as their escape hatch after the floodwaters reached for their ceiling.

I will remember little Mica Samson. Her mother’s body has been found but Mica remains missing. Her grandmother, who loved her so much and took her to school each day, will forever be in grief.

And so will countless nameless others.

My heart still breaks whenever I remember that dreadful dawn of December 17,2011 ( Saturday). Christmas is just 4 days away but we do not know how to celebrate it... while our city are counting dead bodies and damaged homes.

I am happy that we survived the catastrophe... but grieving to see some of our neighbors lost their loved-ones.

I don't know how to start this post...

I can not dare to explain in detail what transpired on that bleak dawn of December 17 because it still breaks my heart. Yesterday, with my hubby and some friends, we went to our house . I can not help but CRY... not because of the damaged things but mainly because of sparing our lives. We were sleeping at our mom's house with the tragedy struck. The original plan was I and my daughter will stay home while my hubby and my son will take car of my mom who's not feeling well that day. I just don't know why suddenly at 9pm I decided that we should go with them. God truly is sovereign...He know it coming...so spared us from the disaster.

Oh my... I am crying again...better stop now.
