Observation of Lord’s Supper

We will be observing the Lord’s Supper during this morning’s worship service as traditionally done at the beginning of each quarter throughout the year. Our church conducts open observation of this special communion, meaning you do not have to be a member of the church to partake in it, but you should have personally accepted Christ as your savior.

Weight Loss Support Group

A support group has been formed and is open to anyone (male or female) that desires help in loosing/maintaining their weight. It is FREE and will be much like other groups with a private weigh-in as well as the sharing of helpful healthy food choices. It will be hosted for now at Pastor Chris & Abby’s home each Tuesday night from 6:30-7:30pm. If you have any questions, feel free to talk to Abby!

Baby Dedication Meal

There will be a special event of a Baby Dedication Service held during the morning worship today.  It is a time when parents of newly born children can bring them to the altar with the promise of raising them to honor God.  We will celebrate those who make that decision with a traditional Baptist potluck meal following the morning service.  Everyone is invited to join us for the meal.

Observation of the Lord’s Supper

Next Sunday during the Morning Service we will be observing the Lord’s Supper as traditionally done at the beginning of each quarter throughout the year.

Many may remember our former pastor, Scott Minix’s wife, Amy, and the prayer requests mentioned lately for her health.  She has been sick with an unknown illness and undergone weeks of hospitalization for treatment and in hopes of finding a diagnosis.  She and her family could use encouragement during this time and given evidence that they are being remembered in prayer with a card.  For those of you who would like to do this, contact the church for her address.

Bridge the Gap Fundraiser

The Ministerial Alliance’s Bridge the Gap project to raise funds for a local charity is now in progress.  Envelopes were distributed to collect donations to go toward the renovations still needing to be done at the Community Closet.  If you would like to give to this worthy cause, you may give your contribution to Susie Michael.  If you would like to write a check, it should be made out to Nokomis Community Closet directly.  Our group goal is $200.

Baby Dedication & Meal

There will be a special event of a Baby Dedication Service held during the morning worship next Sunday, February 21^st.  The Pastor & his wife’s new baby, Emily Grace, will be dedicated along with any other babies presented that morning for committing to the Lord.  It is a time when parents of new children can bring them to the altar with the promise of raising them to honor God.  We will celebrate those who make that decision with a traditional Baptist potluck meal served following the service around noon.  If you know if a family that may want to take advantage of this opportunity, please make them aware of the service and help them get in contact with the pastor.

Congratulations to Pastor Chris and Abby on the birth of their newborn baby girl, Emily Grace!  She was born on February 8^th at 3:28am weighing 9lbs 3ozs.  Her big sister, Amber, and big brother, Corbin, are now showering her with attention.

The Ministerial Alliance’s “Bridge the Gap” project this year is a fundraiser to gather a donation for the Community Closet in hopes of helping with additional remodeling of the building.  Those individuals interested in participating attend the dinner at which they give out envelopes to collect donations from those they know, as well as contribute themselves.  The envelopes are then collected by the pastors.  This year’s dinner will be held on Friday, February 5^th at the St. Louis Parish Center at 6pm.  Please notice the date change due to a conflicting ball game scheduled.  Talk to Pastor Chris for more information.

2010 VBS Planned

Vacation Bible School for 2010 has been set for June 13-17 with the Family Night on Friday, June 18^th.  VBS will be held from 6:00 to 8:45pm each night for kids in Preschool thru those going into 6^th grade (after this school year). The theme is a western setting in which kids will “Round up Questions and Drive Home Answers.”   Please let Nancy Hill know if you have questions or want to help!

Super Bowl Fellowship

Our annual Super Bowl Fellowship this year will again be held at Ed & Susie Michael’s home on February 7^th beginning at game kickoff (around 5pm).  All are welcome to bring some finger food treats to share and join in this special time of fellowship.  There will be NO EVENING SERVICE held at the church that Sunday night.

Church Development

There will be a Church Development Conference held at Ramsey FBC on Thursday, February 11^th from 6-9 pm. Please RSVP at (618) 283-0842 by Feb. 4^th if you plan to attend the dinner at 6pm.  Otherwise, you may join at 7pm for the meeting.  Helpful classes will be given in which each person can choose to attend two throughout the evening including topics of discipleship, children’s ministry and teaching methods.

The pastors of the cooperating churches meet to plan events such as the community services and other non-denominational, yet God enriched events. Currently, they have planned a fund raising dinner to gather a donation for the Community Closet in hopes of helping with additional remodeling of the building. Those individuals interested in participating attend the dinner at which they give out envelopes. Then they collect from those they know, as well as contribute themselves. This year’s Vacation Bible School time will be here before we know it! We will have a planning meeting to set the date and discuss other details in preparation on Sunday, January 24th at 5 pm. All those interested in helping with it this year are encouraged to attend. Please let Nancy Hill know if you want to be a part of the team!  Both leaders and helpers are needed!

Update: the VBS dates have been set for June 13-17 from 6-8:45 pm, with the family night being on the 18th at the same time.

Cookie Clatch

Join us next Sunday afternoon (January 31 at 3 pm) as we take cookies to the nursing home and spend time talking with some of the residents.  If you would like to just buy or make some cookies or other baked goodies, you may drop them off at the church after the morning worship service, and we will make sure they get taken as well.  This is a great ministry in which we honor our elders and be a Christian witness to them.

The Rehoboth Associational Evangelism Conference this year will be held at FBC Ramsey on January 17th & 18th at 7 pm each night. The theme this year is “Revolutionary Disciples” with Pat Pajak from IBSA as speaker. There will also be inspirational music provided. This annual event is meant to bring the association for 30+ churches together in unity to rejuvenate those that attend with worship and encouragement to carry back into their own church life. In turn, strengthening the churches for more ministry. It is our responsibility to our church to be a part of this event. Please make your plans to attend at least one night of this event.

Sunday School Breakfast

Next Sunday morning will be the monthly SS breakfast at 9am.  Bring a dish to share & join us!

When Jesus walked the Earth, he was seen as a radical. The way he lived and taught made him stand out from the crowd so that “the people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law” (Mark 1:22, NIV). So also, if we are to be disciples of Jesus, we should be revolutionary in our lifestyle.

The Rehoboth Associational Evangelism Conference this year will be held at FBC Ramsey on January 17th & 18th at 7 pm each night. The theme this year is “Revolutionary Disciples.” Pat Pajak from the IBSA will be a speaker. Our regular Sunday evening service will be moved to FBC Ramsey on the 17th so that we can all take advantage of this opportunity to grow in our faith.

Not only should we each individually seek to be a revolutionary disciple of Christ, but we should also all collectively seek to make revolutionary disciples in our church through our evangelism and discipleship models. This annual event is meant to bring the association of 30+ churches together in unity to rejuvenate those that attend with worship and encouragement to carry back into their own church life. We all long to be more faithful and on fire for Christ. Please make plans to attend at least one night of this event.

We will have our regular monthly Church Business Meeting tonight following the evening service.  Please make it a priority to attend this important assembly at which we discuss and plan things vital to our church organization!

New Web Look!

Pastor Chris has utilized his computer skill and knowledge to give our church webpage a make-over!  It now has his sermons on it in note and audio form!!  It also has the ability to do a lot more than before! It opens with a slide show of our events and features some cool designing that Pastor Chris did himself!
