Dear Friend,

God loves you and He cares for every detail in our lives, including our finances. A miracle of debt cancellation doesn’t sound very religious. We accept the miracle of salvation for the grossest sinners. We rejoice even when those who have abused their health are miraculously healed by grace.

Why is it hard for many to accept a financial miracle?

When we see tears flowing down the face of a small child who was blind and now can see, we respond “Oh Jesus is wonderful!” When we hear someone who was bound by addictions testify, we exclaim “God is a good God”.

It seems we easily identify God with miracles of salvation and healing. But financial miracles and supernatural debt cancellation sounds carnal to some, and yet there are many such examples in the Bible. 

• Those who labored with Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem received debt cancellation (Neh. 5:1-12).

• Onesimus, a debt-ridden slave, saw his debt cancelled (Philemon v. 18-19).

• A widow woman received wisdom from the Lord and her debt was cancelled (2 Kings 4:1-7).

Grace TV’s debt cancellation is happening now! I shared in my letter last month that two-thirds of the $3.9 million debt has been removed without one penny from God’s people. We have $1.3 million left and $400,000 is needed by May 1st.

Here’s my thinking: Look what God has done. If $2.6 million of debt is gone, then God will surely move on the hearts of His people for the remaining $1.3 million. Here is something to consider.

Did you know that Jesus had a debt miraculously cancelled? 

Our initial reaction may be, “Jesus would never be in debt, it just doesn’t seem proper for the Son of God.” I agree that Jesus wasn’t in debt in some of the ways that people today are, but Jesus had a particular debt—taxes. 

I call taxes a “debt” because they are always paid in arrears. In that sense, your tax bill is never paid off. We read that a tax collector asked Simon Peter:

“Does not your master pay taxes?” (Matt 17:24)

The tax in question was the temple tax, and Peter answered that his Master paid taxes, but when he went to get money to pay the taxes, we read that:

“Jesus prevented him” (Matt. 17:25).

Why would Jesus prevent Peter from paying the taxes? Because Jesus was about to demonstrate a truth about miraculous debt cancellation.

Jesus told Peter, “Go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.” (Matt 17:27).

Believers easily agree that the coin in the fish’s mouth was a miracle of grace. Simon Peter did nothing to earn it. But it was more; when he pulled the coin from the mouth of the fish it was sufficient to pay the tax bill both for him and for Jesus.

Faith was involved. Peter could have told Jesus “You’ve got to be kidding! I don’t fish with a hook and I don’t look for a gold coin in a fish’s mouth. I’ve caught thousands of fish and I know that this will never work.”

Simon Peter believed the words of Jesus and he received the benefit.

Four months ago I was troubled and under pressure because of the debt from the purchase and startup of Grace TV. I added up what we still owed and it came to $3.9 million. Frankly that amount sounded so big I didn’t tell anyone, not our partners or our television viewers. I was too discouraged.

While in a Gospel Campaign in Indonesia, having a hard time to focus on the precious Indonesian people because of the financial pressure, I spoke to my Heavenly Father, in my little hotel room. 

“God, You are my Father. If I asked for my earthly father’s advice, he’d give it to me. Now I need Your wisdom to deal with this $3.9 million debt.” 

God gave me wisdom right there and then through a verse in the Bible that I didn’t even know was there, and now two-thirds of the debt is gone. ‘Why not all of it?’ you may ask. I believe I have the answer; God wants to give His people an opportunity to be blessed by participating in the miracle.

• God worked through 120 available people on the Day of Pentecost.

• A man had to be willing to release his donkey to carry Jesus into Jerusalem.

• Jesus needed someone to roll away the stone before Lazarus could come out from the tomb.

• Paul needed his Macedonian partners to believe and give, so that the Gospel would be heard.

God works through willing people and that’s what is happening now. We have just a few days to go for the first part of this 2012 VICTORY CAMPAIGN, and the $400,000 needed by May 1st.

First of all, thank you because you have been a friend of World Impact Ministries and also a friend of Grace Television here in Canada. Thank you for your prayers and your support since Grace Television launched in 2009.

I remember when I began in ministry over 30 years ago, travelling from town to town from Newfoundland to British Columbia. Sometimes I stayed in one place for up to six weeks preaching every night. Today, anywhere I go in our country, I meet people who were saved or healed in one of those early meetings.

Some people are critical about Canada and about the church, but my experience has been that Canadian believers have a heart for God, and Canadians are eager to get the Gospel out.

I stand amazed that God would use me. In fact, it has really nothing to do with me, God simply found me willing. That’s the way it is with all the partners and friends who make the ministry possible; we are willing.

I’m reminded of the old preacher who said “God isn’t looking for golden vessels or silver vessels; He’s only looking for plain, ordinary, yielded vessels.” That’s the Grace TV team, whether those who work in our offices, behind the cameras, or the thousands of partners and friends across Canada; we are just plain vessels yielded to God.

2012 is the breakthrough year for Grace Television. Let me explain the BIG MIRACLE that has already happened.

Since Grace TV began, we have faced two huge mountains, one to pay off the $5 million purchase and startup costs; two to bring Grace TV to a breakeven position. Step by step the debt has been removed, but we still needed $3.9 million to be totally debt free. There have been times when it looked like we were not going to make it, but each time God pulled us through with a miracle.

The lowest point was 4 months ago. We were under a lot of pressure to pay off everything owing. We had been putting it off, but these two mountains had to be dealt with: We needed $3.9 million and we needed it right away.

The amount was so big, I didn’t want to tell anyone. While I was in a Gospel Campaign in Indonesia last November, my heart became so concerned, that I had trouble focusing on the Lord while praying. I wanted to pray for the Indonesian people, but my mind wandered off to the financial needs of Grace TV.

I know I could have mentioned the need to you, but let me be totally honest, I felt $3.9 million is such a large amount that it would discourage people. Finally, I said to the Lord, “You are my heavenly Father. Grace TV is Your channel. Lord, speak to me, how to deal with this giant debt that’s been hanging over our shoulders for 3 years.”

Well, God answered me right there and then in that tiny hotel room in Indonesia. One day I’ll tell the details in a book-- it’s too much for a letter. What God told me was completely contrary to what experts in the television industry had advised me, but God knows best. Here’s what has happened behind the scenes over the past three months.

By God’s grace we have been able to eliminate two-thirds of the finances owing, conditional on God’s people standing together to provide for the remaining one-third.

That’s right, $2.6 million of the overall debt has been lifted off, but we must pay the remaining $1.3 million this year.

After that, I’ll never again ask for your help for the purchase of the Grace Television channel. GRACE TV WILL BE PAID. THE DEBT WILL BE OUT OF THE WAY, FOREVER. HALLELUJAH! Then we can focus on doing so much more to reach people who really need to hear the Gospel.

The need for $1.3 million comes in two phases; the first challenge is for $400,000 by May 1st, then the second challenge will be for the end of November, 2012.

$2.6 million of the debt is gone, but we must pay the remaining $1.3 million this year. After that, this debt will be out of the way forever… $400,000 is needed now.

I’m reminded that the Lord provides our ‘daily bread’. We are trusting Him for the first $400,000 now.

One other victory report. Starting April 1st Grace TV will broadcast from Toronto. This will be cost-effective and will streamline the day to day operation to better serve our country. You will be able to follow on the nightly programming as we make this transition.

All this talk about the Grace TV channel, the building and being cost-effective is important, but it is not the vision…

The vision is people.

Buildings and TV channel are only there as a RESULT of the vision.

There is no denying, a miracle has happened. Grace TV’s debt has gone from $3.9million to $1.3million without one dollar coming from God’s people. The only condition is that we pay off that $1.3 million this year. Now hear my heart:

I NEED YOU NOW.

First, I need you to pray for Grace TV. Second, I need your help financially for the $400,000 needed by May 1st. Remember, every dollar you give is worth three.

• $1,000 gift becomes $3,000
• $500 gift becomes $1,500
• $100 gift becomes $300

I am preparing a large brick wall, The Wall of Victory. It will be permanently displayed in our ministry headquarters in Toronto. Thousands of people go through this building every week, and I’m asking you to have your name on one of the bricks.

This is urgent! Israel needs our help in several ways. First, let me explain the crisis at Mt. Carmel.

Several months ago a deadly fire, killing 44 Israelis, swept across the Mount Carmel region in Israel. More than 17,000 people were evacuated and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a national day of mourning. Forest fires in Israel are extra severe, because there are so few forested areas. 

Israel would be a desert, was it not for the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy that the land would be rebuilt… and “strangers” would help to do it. 

The Mt. Carmel fire was the deadliest in the history of Israel. 9,900 acres of forest were destroyed, and from the devastated Mt. Carmel region 5.5 million trees burned. After we visited Mt. Carmel to view the devastation, we consulted with our Israeli partners, ambassador Rami Levi, and the director of the Land of Promise Foundation, Dr. R.J. Gosselin. Right now is prime tree planting season in Israel, and Grace Television is once again stepping up to the plate to stand shoulder to shoulder to bless the people of Israel. 

The Grace TV Biblical Forest was launched in Galilee, and we will never forget how the Jewish farmers wept that “strangers had come to help restore their land”. Isaiah’s prophecy rang in our ears, “many nationalities would join” to rebuild Israel, “and they shall build the old waste… raise up former desolations… and strangers shall feed your crops and shall be your ploughmen and your vinedressers” (Is. 61:4-5). 

We have continued to plant trees in Galilee, but the current emergency at Mt. Carmel has caused us to focus our attention to help in this much needed area. This is not a quick involvement in Israel. We have been active for years with sharing the Gospel with Jews and Arabs. The purpose of the Grace Biblical Forest is to put down deeper roots in Israel, while we continue to share the Gospel.

Plant your Grace Forest Tree

The deadliest forest fire in the history of Israel claims 44 lives.

The fire started on Mount Carmel in northern Israel. Much of the precious forest in the region was quickly consumed by the devastating fire, 17,000 people were forced to flee their homes, 9,900 acres of forest were destroyed, and 5.5 million trees burned. 

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the world to help fight the fire.

Of the 44 lives claimed in the fire, 37 were prison service officers in a bus. A fallen tree trapped their bus in a ball of fire. The bus was on its way to Damun Prison to evacuate prisoners from the path of the flames. A day of national mourning was declared in Israel to remember the lost lives. 

Peter Youngren and I recently visited the spot where the fire claimed the lives of the 37 prison service officers. Charred remnants are all that remain of this once lush forest reserve. 

The fire caused widespread damage to property. At least 9,900 acres of forest were destroyed. According to officials, nearly half of the 37,000 acres of the Mt. Carmel Forest reserve were destroyed in the fire. Officials say it could take dozens of years to rehabilitate the area.

Now, the rebuilding process begins. The land had to rest for one year before planting new trees. Now, you can answer the call for help. The Grace TV Biblical forest will help rebuild the forest in Mt. Carmel in Israel.

Friend, I learnt this insight from the Lord 20 years ago. When all looked hopeless, God was setting me up for a financial breakthrough. Get ready…IT’S YOUR TURN!

I want to begin our time together by making a promise to you. If you read this letter with an open mind and take action in response to God’s promise, you will see increase in your life and finances. 

This is not mere head knowledge, but a revelation Jesus taught me 20 years ago. I don’t use the word revelation lightly, but in the strongest sense; Jesus taught me something powerful. 

20 years ago, after years of Gospel ministry around the world, I started a church in the Niagara region. This was something new and unknown to me. God was blessing the work, but we needed a big building to handle what the Lord was doing. I spoke with many bankers and they all said the same, “Mr. Youngren your plans seem nice, but no bank will lend money to a church that is less than one year old.”

A businessman, who knew nothing of the Gospel approached me, not to give any money, but he offered to introduce me to the chairman of one of Canada’s largest banks; “Maybe he will help you”, he said.

I still remember taking the elevator to the top floor of the tall Bank building, thinking to myself “this must be God”. An hour later I heard the familiar response; “no bank will give that money to a church that isn’t even one year old.”. 

Friend, have you ever faced a situation where nothing turned out like you thought. Remember Abraham, who thought Ishmael was God’s answer, but God had something better in mind. Isaac was to be born when all hope for Sarah and Abraham was long gone.

After my disappointment with the bank chairman, I questioned; 

“God, what do I do now?” 

All I had as a down payment for a project of $ 4.3 million dollars was a 1000-seat Gospel tent, and somebody had offered to buy it for $15,000. It looked hopeless. That’s when God used Lester Sumrall to show me that God had bigger and better plans. 

Brother Sumrall came to see me, and in his abrupt manner, he blurted out: 

“A missionary in Guatemala needs a 1,000-seat gospel tent. Do you know where I can get it?”

I ignored Brother Sumrall best I could.

“So, Peter, do you know where I can get a tent like that?”

I didn’t want to give away the tent. It was all I had towards the building we so desperately needed, except a small voice inside kept nudging;

“give away your tent”. 

Finally, I heard myself say; “Brother Sumrall, I have a 1,000-seat tent and I will give it to the missionary in Guatemala”.

The peace lasted only about ten minutes, and then that small voice again; 

“You will make sure it  is in top shape, like brand new,won’t you?”

Again it took me a few minutes to say, “YES, Lord”. Peace came until I heard the Lord prompt me again: 

“You’re going to pay the shipping to Guatemala, aren’t you?”

$15,000 for the tent, $3,000 in repairs and finally $2,000 more for shipping. Now the Lord was asking me to give $20,000 that I absolutely didn’t have. I didn’t know that God was setting me up for a huge financial breakthrough.

I heard contrary voices in my head; “where will you get the money”, “you don’t even know the missionary in Guatemala”, “why pay for the shipping”, “God, please use someone else”.

Get, ready, I am writing this with a great stirring in my spirit. I’m not just telling a story, this is about YOU;

God is setting you up for your breakthrough!

I am grateful that God gave me grace to say “yes”. 11 months later when I walked into the finished $4.3 million building that was our new church I heard that still voice again; 

“the seed was the Gospel tent and this building is the harvest.”

The bankers and nay-sayers had all been wrong, and God had taught me the Law of Sowing and Reaping, not just in words, but in experience:

“He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” [2 Cor 9:6]

That divine insight became a reality and it is just as real today. 

I wrote to you two months ago about the challenges facing Grace TV. We must have finances to make the necessary payments to the cable and satellite providers. Our $325,000 miracle deadline has been extended to August 31st. 

This financial breakthrough is not an option, it is of absolute necessity for Grace TV to move forward.

Just like God spoke to me to give the Gospel tent, I know God is speaking to you to give something precious to Grace Tv this month. Remember, God is setting you up for your financial breakthrough!

When I obeyed the prompting of the Holy Spirit speaking to me through Lester Sumrall, I received a huge harvest, and I learnt some things:

1. God gives seed to the sower.
I didn’t think I had anything to give, but every one of us has a seed. We make the decision to sow a seed from that which is already in our hand.

2. A harvest involves human participation.
A grove of 100 oak trees will yield literally thousands of acorns each year, but it won’t bring forth thousands of oak trees, unless the farmer gathers the acorns, puts them in potting soil, waters and nurtures them. We have the “acorn” of  blessing because of Jesus, but our response is needed.

3. Jesus is the Lord of the Harvest.
There is no harvest without God. No matter how hard the farmer works, nothing happens without good seed, and only God can make seed. God has determined that money given to the Gospel takes on the character of a seed, and produces 30…60…and a 100-fold. Paul writes,

…it was God, not we, who made the garden grow… [1 Cor 3:6, TLB]

What is true in the natural is true also in the spiritual. God, who makes the seed grow, is the Lord of your financial harvest; God makes your garden grow.

4. The seed must get into the ground. 
Nothing happened until I released that $15,000 Gospel Tent, but once that seed offering was “in the ground”, my harvest was sure. 

Here is my request. Release your best seed for Grace TV into this good Gospel ground today. Listen to God’s prompting… and TAKE ACTION. Once your seed is in the ground YOUR HARVEST IS SURE!

Celebrating the Lord’s Table is not limited to a church service or a television broadcast, you can enjoy the blessing of the Lord’s Table everyday, as often as you wish, in your own home. 

There is nothing in the word of God that says a pastor or church elder has to be present. This is the Lord’s table, and He decides that believers are welcome at any time.

In Acts 2:42 we see that The Lord’s Table was one of the pillars of the church.  The believers, and that means you and I today, continued “daily” and “steadfastly” in “breaking bread”, from “house to house”.

Here is my own testimony about the communion.

I received the Lord shortly before my 13th birthday. I knew I belonged to Jesus, but I felt a lot of things in my life weren’t right. One Sunday I attended a communion service and the preacher really scared me by talking about that people shouldn’t take the communion unless they were really worthy.  

After that I would sit in the back of the church and skip out by the time it came to the Lord’s Table. I just didn’t feel worthy. Well, over the years I came to realize that preacher had really twisted the scriptures, but it wasn’t until 10 years ago when I had a fresh encounter with Jesus Christ and his grace that the communion began to unfold to me in a brand new way.

If the communion table had to do with if we are worthy or not, none of us would ever participate. The Lord’s Table is all about Jesus and our response to what Jesus has done.

Do we look at the bread and the cup as just a religious formality, or do we see it as connecting with the very life of Jesus? His life, creativity, prosperity and wholeness is represented by the cup and the bread.

The apostle Paul told us that some are “sick” and even “dead”, because of  “not discerning the Lord’s body”. Some understand what the cup stands for - the death and blood of Jesus Christ, but have missed “discerning” the bread - the life, blessing, prosperity, wisdom, peace, and wellness available through Jesus. 

In other words by discerning the Lord’s body, we have access to a fountain of healing.

Look at the photo of the communion cups handmade in Bethlehem. I got so excited when I realized that we could make these available to all our partners and friends.

Psalm 105:37 describes the first Passover in Egypt, “He also brought them out with silver and gold, and there was none feeble among them.” Did you see that?  When the Israelites ate of the flesh of the lamb and put the blood on the doorpost the end result was both prosperity and healing.

Those ripe apples won’t pick themselves off the tree… or put themselves in the barn…… Your harvest of increase is ready to be picked… by YOU!

Dear Friend,

I am more thrilled than ever when I think about you and all the partners who pray, give, and faithfully stand with Grace TV. You are the ones who send this message of God’s grace to the world.

I believe the great harvest of souls that Jesus prophesied would come is now underway. That means that the financial harvest prophesied in the Word, that the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous, has also started. There has always been a connection between the harvest of souls and the financial harvest of increase for God’s people.   

Friend, the appletree shows how grace and faith work. 

God causes the seed to become a tree full of apples, but those ripened apples won’t pick themselves, or put themselves into the barn. While Jesus has provided everything we need, by faith we pick the harvest of blessing off of the tree of God’s grace.

Some people sow their money into the kingdom of God and then sit back and wait for the harvest to happen. That won’t work with a natural crop and it won’t work with the spiritual crop.  

Look how Jesus’ parable about the sower ends, that some seed “fell on good ground and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased and brought forth some thirty, some sixty and some a hundred” (Mk 4:8). That’s God’s plan for you… 

A MAXIMUM HARVEST! Now look at the whole parable (Mk 4:3-8).

1. The moment the sower sowed he had problems.

No matter how powerful the seed, it didn’t produce unless it fell in fertile soil. It is very important where you give your money. If you want a MAXIMUM YIELD there is no higher return than giving to the advancement of the Gospel. There is a big difference between giving in general, even in good Christian causes, and giving to spread the Gospel.

Gospel soil will produce an unparalleled harvest! 

World Impact Ministries has given follow-up material to more than 14 million new believers and that same favor is now on Grace Television, we are reaching people that we could never reach any other way. Grace TV is hot soil.

2. The sower needed productive ground.

Jesus told us what that ground is; “the field is the world” (Matt. 13:38). Put your seed into a world ready to be harvested for the Gospel.

3. The sower had problems with Satan.

Jesus said that when the Word was sown in some hearts, “Satan comes immediately and takes away the Word” (Mk 4:15).

Satan is a master at deception, bombarding our minds with thoughts that are contrary to the finished work of Jesus. He causes us to think that we have to pray about things which God has already provided when in fact all we really need to do is receive them. That’s why I constantly encourage people to “give no place to the devil” (Eph. 4:27).

Real spiritual warfare is to cast down every imagination that is against the knowledge of what Jesus Christ has already provided for us.

4. Put in your sickle.

We read, “When the fruit is brought forth, immediately he puts in the sickle because the harvest has come” (Mark 4:29). This is a good time to shout for joy, the seed and the soil have done their part, the crop is ripe, all that’s needed now is for someone to take a sickle and gather in the harvest.  

What is the sickle? How do we bring in the harvest of souls? How do you harvest the blessing Jesus has provided for you? 

The answer is in our mouth. 

I bring in the harvest of souls by speaking the revelation of Jesus. The instrument of harvest is my tongue and my mouth announcing the Gospel. Sometimes we have had altar calls where we have individually counseled more than 150,000 people to receive Christ in one service. That’s a bumper crop.

How do you receive the harvest of blessing in your personal life? The answer is in your mouth, we speak the Word because Jesus is “the Apostle and High Priest of our confession” (Hebr. 3:1).

We speak to our mountain in the name of Jesus (Mk 11:23), and then Jesus backs up the words of faith which we have spoken. 

If God didn’t bless the apple seed that became a tree, it would not matter how much you tried to pick those apples, they just wouldn’t be there.  If God hadn’t provided everything through Jesus Christ, it wouldn’t matter how much we speak positive words, we would just be speaking into thin air.

But partner, when we speak the Word of God, we never speak mere words into thin air; Never! Never! Never! Jesus is the originator and fulfiller of that Word, He is in you, and He is backing you up all the way.  

Right now, put your sickle to work! Speak God’s promises; speak what Jesus has done over ever situation you are facing.

5. God has given you financial seed.

The word is clear, when we “sow bountifully we also reap bountifully” (2 Cor. 9:6). Thank you for your best seed offering for Grace TV this month.

My dear Friend and Partner, 

You are holding a letter sent with great urgency. Just 2-3 weeks ago I wrote to you about “You belong in Father’s House”, and the urgent need for Grace TV. 

Grace TV has been gaining ground every month, getting closer to the break-even point. We are so close to make it! As I shared with you, we must have 1000 new partners and it must happen NOW. Maybe you have already responded and our letters have crossed in the mail. Thank you! If not, please ask God what you should do today. Look at this Scripture:

“A faithful person shall abound with blessings” Proverbs 28:20.

What makes us faithful? Being faithful means to first make a promise to be faithful to something. Once we make that promise and keep it we prove ourselves faithful. I don’t make a promise to impress God, but I do it because I’m thankful for what Jesus has done for me.

Religion has taught us that blessings are only spiritual, but in fact every area of our life is involved; physically, materially, financially and emotionally. The blessing becomes real to us when we till the land of blessings God has provided. 

“He that tills his land shall have plenty of bread, but he that follows after vain person shall have poverty enough.” Proverbs 28:19 

God wants us to have spiritual blessings, but also that we have “plenty of bread”, God promises bread for your table, for transportation, a home for shelter and finances to reach the world with the gospel. 

The next fifteen days are urgent. Since the Grace TV started, 20 months ago, we have cut every excess spending that we inherited from the previous owners. I think you will agree that we stretch every dollar to its maximum for the Gospel.  

FIRST – Please pray and stand with me in faith for a miracle, for a financial break through for Grace TV and for every partner.

The rest of 2011 can be the most exciting season in your life. That’s how I feel… and yet the next thirty days are highly critical for Grace TV. I will tell you about it in a moment, but first…

…You belong in Father’s House. 

For six weeks the Holy Spirit has poured extraordinary insights into my spirit from one of the Bible’s most beloved chapters, Luke 15. I have quoted this chapter a thousand times or more, but this was different. 

In Father’s House there is...

…unconditional love

…unmerited favor

…unlimited potential

I share this volcano of revelation that has erupted in my spirit on the 6 CD album “The Love That Won’t Let Go”… it will impact your life. It also speaks to the purpose of Grace Television, and remember when I say Grace TV, I am talking about our ministry (yours and mine).

I know you have friends and family that have not yet discovered the lavish love of Father’s House. Maybe you have felt like giving up. I assure you there is a love from God that won’t let go of even the most “impossible” case [see enclosed newsletter]. 

Friend, please, lay aside any distraction for the next ten minutes. If Grace TV ever needed your help, the time is right now. Twenty months ago, we took over a Christian TV channel that was loosing huge amounts of money every month. 

We have come a long way and Grace Television is so close to make it. Thank you! This could never have happened was it not for loving partners like you. 

Notice, I said that we are “so close to make it”, because though we have grown every month, we still face a deficit every month, and these deficits add up. In short, we must have 1000 more partners, who stand with Grace TV each month. This is crucial right now.

Just last month we had promised to make payments to the satellite and cable companies that carry Grace TV. Financial defeat was staring us in the face, and then…God gave us a huge financial miracle. Can you see that this is not the work of human effort? This is a ministry fueled by God himself. 

The Lord has impressed on me to share with you holding nothing back. We must not continue these deficits each month. Forgive me! I feel I have not communicated as I should about the vital urgency that every person who believes for spiritual awakening across Canada becomes a Grace Club monthly partner. We must have a Grace family that stands shoulder to shoulder every month.

God’s greatest act of giving was done with full expectation to receive something in return. The Creator sent Jesus Christ to die because He knew there would be great returns in sons and daughters. 

God’s law concerning sowing and reaping is irrevocable, “He that sows bountifully shall reap bountifully.” It is not enough to know this mentally; we must take action. 

The Bible doesn’t really say the truth will set you free! It does say… You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. The word translated “know” in John 8:32 goes beyond our common usage of the English word, it is more than head knowledge; it is personal experiential knowledge. That knowing happens when we step out in faith, when we take action.

Please take these steps in faith:

- In your teaching on the Gospel of Grace you often refer to the finished work of the cross and that there is nothing more we can do regarding our salvation. However in Phil 2:12, the Apostle Paul clearly states that we are to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. Clearly, Jesus has made available salvation to us, but do we not have a responsibility to then work that salvation out into every area of our lives?

-  “Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more…” Romans 5:21b. This verse seems to be used in the grace movement to justify low morals, non-existent standards of holiness and to excuse all types of behaviour. Does your emphasis on grace encourage people to sin without fear of consequence?

And when they opened their treasures they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense and myrrh (Mt 2:11)

Dear Friend,

The 1st Christmas was an on-time event, “when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman” (Gal. 4:4). Everything that was supposed to happen before Jesus came had already happened.

“The days were completed for her to be delivered and she brought forth her firstborn Son.” (Luke 2:6-7)

Friend, do you see the importance of timing?

Jesus could have been born one hundred years earlier, but then the Pharisees would have just been a small movement. Now they were a dominant religious force, the ultimate champions of merit-based religion. Timing is crucial! Because Jesus came, once and for all, to demonstrate that the only access to God is by grace. Phariseeism (self-effort) has never worked… Jesus is the Answer.

THE TIME HAD COME…

…TO SHOW THE WORLD WHO GOD REALLY IS. The view of God was smeared, covered with layers of tradition. Even the best prophets had only seen a glimpse of who God really is. Jesus came to show us that God is a Father, a friend of sinners, full of love, light and life. (John 1:18)

…BECAUSE ALL EFFORTS HAD FAILED. The Law of Moses, the prophetic warnings and even captivity had failed to make anyone righteous. Now the people would be ready for the real solution - Jesus Christ!

…TO PUT AWAY SIN BY ONE SACRIFICE. Thousands of sacrifices in the temple had all pointed to Christ’s perfect, once and for all, sacrifice.

…TO BRING IN A NEW COVENANT. Jeremiah wrote that God would make a new covenant, “and their sin He will remember no more”.

…TO FULFILL THE LAW, THE PSALMS AND THE PROPHETS. No one had fulfilled the requirements of the Law, not even Moses. The prophets foretold the birth in Bethlehem and the coming Messiah. Every ceremony, ritual, festival and offering had pointed to Jesus. Now the fulfillment had finally come.

…FOR GOD TO LIVE IN US. The people only knew God as someone outside ourselves, someone to call upon in time of need. Jesus would be Christ in us, the hope of glory. (Col. 1:27)

The Christmas story is full of beautiful illustrations:

• Mary surrendered to the purpose of God.
• Joseph believed.
• The shepherds rejoiced.
• Simeon saw the salvation of God that he had longed for.
• Anna gave thanks.
• While Herod saw Jesus as a threat and Rome ignored the Savior, wise men worshipped Him.

Please pray with me for Grace TV.

The next three weeks are crucial. The wise men gave something precious for the Savior. Will you help Grace TV to give the message of the Savior to the whole world? Your help could not come at a more important time.

The precious “gold, frankincense and myrrh” given by the wise men, show us who Jesus is:

• Gold speaks of royalty; He is the King of Kings.

• Frankincense was used by the priest during prayer. Jesus is our High Priest forever praying for us.

• Myrrh beautifully depicts Jesus as our Savior, Redeemer and Healer. The word means “bitter”. It is derived from the intentional wounding of a bush, reminding us that Jesus was wounded for our transgression; by His stripes we are healed.

There is always an enemy to God’s purposes. That’s true for all of us. Herod wanted to destroy the newborn Savior.

Grace TV also has an enemy, who wants to stop this gospel voice to the world. That’s not anything new. There were those who wanted to silence Jesus and the apostles, but there were others, who stood shoulder to shoulder for the proclamation of the Gospel. That is why I am deeply grateful for those who will respond with a gift for souls today.

Friend, this month is crucial. God is building a WALL OF LIVING STONES. Will you take your place?

Dear Friend, 

Did you know God calls you a stone…a “living stone”?  This little phrase “living stone” has a powerful prophetic meaning. Look at the significance of stones in Scripture:

• Jacob poured oil on a pillar of stone, and named that place “Bethel” which means the “House of God” (Genesis 28:19). 

• Jesus is the “Chief Cornerstone” (Matthew 21:42).  

• Simon Peter wrote, “You also, as living stones, are being built a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5).

People have always been impressed with brick and mortar, buildings of dead stones, but God’s focus is “living” stones.  

Jesus Christ is the Cornerstone (1 Peter 2:6-7), and each one of us is made first to fit together with JESUS, then each one of us individually is fitted together with one another. 

Friend, I don’t know how you see yourself. Maybe you don’t think of yourself as an Abraham, an Isaac, a David, an Elijah, or as the apostle Paul. Maybe you don’t think you are as important as Billy Graham; but in fact, you are as much a valuable living stone as any other believer in Jesus Christ. 

Something powerful happens when we see ourselves fitted into Jesus and fitted to each other.

Grace Television is not the ministry of one man, one person, or a small group of people. It takes thousands of “living stones”.  

God told Deborah that 10,000 would be ready to stand with her in the battle against the evil Sisera (Judges 4:6). The Lord put in my spirit to call for 10,000 Canadians to make a commitment every month to Grace TV. With 10,000 partners Grace TV will literally reach around the world, to cover Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.  

This ministry is birthed in Canada. Grace TV is Canada touching the world with God’s love. God’s destiny for our nation is being fulfilled, and YOU are a vital part of it. 

Let me speak to your heart. God is calling us to be “LIVING STONES” connected with Jesus and one another to reach the world. My co-worker, Nathan Thurber, has been working with international satellite companies, mapping out a strategy to take Grace TV from Canada with love to the whole world. It is possible! It can happen quickly, but I need you to be involved.

Right now, Grace TV needs every believer to respond and become a monthly partner. Literally, we need for everyone who holds this letter to respond.

The Hezbollah war destroyed 10,000 trees. I told the Israeli ambassador we’d plant 10,000 trees in the Grace TV Forest by September 15th. 

Dear Friend,

We love Israel, the people, the land, and most of all we love Yeshua, the Savior of Israel. We minister every month in twelve locations across Israel. Jesus loved Jews, Samaritans and Romans, without discrimination. He is the same today – the Savior for both the Jew and the Arab. 

Grace TV is not about satellites, television cameras, cables, and lighting – it is about people, it is about partners standing together… and now we are blessing Israel together. 

To love Israel is to share God’s love in Yeshua, Jesus Christ. This love also expresses itself in practical ways. We have already planted over 3,000 trees. The Israeli ambassador told me that 10,000 trees were destroyed during the recent rocket attacks. I responded that I believe friends of Grace TV will come together to plant 10,000 trees by Sept 15th. 

How did Jesus love Israel?

Dear Friend,

The rebirth of Israel from a desolate land to a thriving country is a miraculous prophetic fulfillment. Isaiah prophesied that “many nationalities would join” to rebuild Israel, “and they shall build the old wastes…raise up the former desolations… and strangers shall feed your crops and shall be your plowmen and your vine dressers” (Is 61:4-5).

I’ve been involved for years with the Gospel to Jews and Arabs in Israel. This year the Lord prompted me that we (the partners of Grace TV) should put down deeper roots in Israel. Shortly afterwards, I was approached by representatives of the Israeli government, and the vision of the Grace Television Biblical Forest was launched.

A few weeks ago we planted the first 150 out of 100,000 trees. Our new Jewish friends wept with joy that “strangers” had come to help restore the land.

At the launch of the Grace TV Forest a few weeks ago, I was amazed to discover that the vast valley behind us is where Deborah and Barak defeated the evil oppressor Sisera.

I could feel the hairs stand up on my body; this was unexpected. You see God used the story of Deborah and Barak to speak to me about Grace TV.

I asked the Lord, “How?” and He instantly responded with the Scripture where God tells Deborah, “Go…and take with you ten thousand”, and Barak and Deborah went out, and “ten thousand went with them” (Judges 4:6, 10). That’s how the Lord assured me that He had prepared ten thousand Canadians to stand with Grace TV.

Can you imagine my emotions! I had no idea that the inaugural ceremony of the Grace Television Biblical Forest was right where Deborah and Barak had seen their victory. This was a confirmation from the Lord.

We have made a commitment with the government of Israel for the first 10,000 trees to be planted by August 1st. This is a great opportunity for you and your family. You can leave a legacy and join in prophetic fulfillment. Consider the following:

• The Grace Forest will be a testimony to the grace of God in Israel.

Let me only share one of many confirmations of God’s blessing.

I have visited the Garden of Gethsemane several times, but this time was to be a brand new experience. The Israeli government gave me special permission to access the eight olive trees in the Garden of Gethsemane that have been dated to be more than 2,000 years old. These are the very trees where Jesus Christ may have agonized before He went to the cross.

I was teaching and leaning on the largest of these 2,000 year old olive trees, when something happened that even surprised our Jewish hosts. Father Raphael, who has been the supervisor of the Garden of Gethsemane for almost 60 years, took a sapling from one of the 2,000-year-old trees and gave it to be planted in the Grace TV Forest.

That tied everything together, because we are in Israel to be a witness of what Jesus did.

Isaiah prophesied that you and I would be called “trees of righteousness, the plantings of the Lord” (Isaiah 61:3). David said that you would be like “a tree planted by the rivers of water” (Psalm 1:3).

Trees are a biblical symbol for the reality of Jesus in us. For the last five years we have been involved in empowering both Jewish and Arab evangelists and now Grace TV (that means you and I together) are deepening our roots in Israel.

Please take these steps:

1. 1. Indicate how many trees you want to plant. You will know in your heart what is the right amount for you and your family. I believe everyone will plant at least one tree.

2. 2. Indicate in what name, or names, you want your official certificate or certificates made out.

3. 3. Include your prayer requests. Right now Grace TV is in a “Summer of Miracles”. I want to include your prayer needs. What Jesus did for you in the Garden of Gethsemane 2,000 years ago deals with every human pain and struggle, and we will look at your prayer requests, through the finished work of Jesus.

Dear Friend,

Everyone’s mom is special… yours, and mine too. Mom was born on a bitter cold night in northern China, the daughter of missionaries. No one thought that mom or her twin brother, Wilhelm, would survive. According to local customs, a boy was preferred to a girl, and my grandmother was told, “Let the girl die and the boy will have a better chance to survive.” Against all odds both children survived.

My mom became an evangelist at the age of 17. She experienced revival. She would preach in country churches for two weeks without a single person coming to Christ. Then slowly the Gospel broke through, and for months souls would be saved daily. Mom described it as God’s Spirit hovering over an entire community.   

A few weeks ago, my mom went to be with the Lord at the age of 80. To the end she was concerned about the salvation of souls.

At Grace TV, we are in the final weeks of the ‘No Home Left Behind’ campaign. It reminds me of mom. She was all about no soul left behind. The one question she would always ask, “How is your relationship with Jesus?”  

Mom’s twin brother took a different path, he became disillusioned, threw his Bible in the fireplace, and vowed to never have anything to do with Jesus. There wasn’t a day without my mother and all of us praying for souls, especially mentioning her twin brother Wilhelm by name. Well, a few years ago, he too came to Jesus. What a joy! God answers prayer! 

When I look at the Wall of Prayer at the Grace TV studio, I think of my uncle Wilhelm and how God proved faithful. I believe in God’s faithfulness for your loved ones also. 

Recently on our telecast, I showed a short video that described mom’s life. A lot of you have told me how that video touched your heart, and I love to share it with you. Just ask for it on the enclosed response form.

Now a word about Grace TV and ‘No Home Left Behind’. The compelling question to me is the same one my mother asked; how is our country doing with Jesus? Our vision is that Jesus will be revealed in the home of every Canadian.

When we took over the TV channel last June, there was a huge deficit every month. We’ve been gaining ground steadily, but we must get to the break-even point. I didn’t learn to pray in the Spirit from a charismatic service, but from waking up to the sound of my mom praying. Many of her prayers were for people without Christ. Now, I don’t think my mother is any more special than any other mother, but I know the legacy she left was a concern for souls. Several walls in the Grace TV studio are covered with names of loved ones that we are praying for. My prayer for you is that the Holy Spirit will reveal Jesus to your loved one, just like what happened to my uncle.

It’s been rewarding on our Grace 2010 tour to be able to announce that as of March 15^th we are now available on Shaw Cable, channel 166. That in itself is an answer to prayer. I knew from the onset when we took over The Christian Channel now Grace TV, that to be really effective we would need Shaw Cable, which is so strong in the four western provinces.

During a time of prayer last fall, the Lord impressed on me to fly to the Shaw Corporate Headquarters in Calgary and talk to some of the corporate leaders within the Shaw organization. Well, to make a long story short as of March 15^th, we are available in virtually every household across the west. In total, we reach more than 50% of Canadian households, and people from more than 170 nations have tuned in to the streaming of Grace TV.

We have seven more rallies to go. Pray with me that we’ll continue to see a great response for salvation, as we travel from St. John’s Newfoundland to Toronto. Pray for strength for Jessy Dixon!

One of the great memories from the tour is the testimonies of people whose lives have been changed. Each night before the service, Steve McLaughlin would ask people who have been healed, saved or received a particular answer to prayer through our previous visits or through Grace TV to record their testimony. From salvation to healing of cancer, it’s really rewarding to read the testimonies of lasting change and lasting miracles of healing in people’s lives. I’d love to hear from you how the Lord has touched your life. I conclude with best of all; 638 people responded to salvation during the first eight rallies. Yes, Canadians want Jesus.

With the launch of Grace TV on Shaw Cable, Grace TV became the first fully Christian TV channel to broadcast on Shaw's vast cable network. Stretching from Thunder Bay, Ontario to Victoria, British Columbia, Shaw is the single largest cable provider west of Ontario.

Have you ever been in a situation when you asked, “How Lord”? When God gave Grace TV to the body of Christ in Canada, I asked, “God, How?” That’s when the story of Deborah came in my spirit. God told Deborah, “Go and take 10,000 with you.” An assurance rose in my heart that God had prepared the hearts of 10,000 Canadians to stand with Grace TV.

Grace TV used to be known as The Christian Channel, and was owned by a secular media company. That’s kind of strange in itself, but the Lord had it all planned. When the channel came for sale, I was the first one to be told about it and I said, “yes”. You see the Lord had already prepared my heart almost 20 years ago. Many times I thought I had misheard God, or maybe I was living in the wrong country. After all, “could God give a Christian television license in Canada?” It seemed impossible, and yet, I’m here to testify that the prophetic word has been fulfilled.

Since the Lord reminded me of the story of Deborah, I decided to look into the meaning of Deborah’s name. Today we name children according to what is popular at the time, but the naming in biblical times was crucially significant. Deborah means ‘the bee’, the tiny animal known for its sting and its honey.

Friend when I saw that I laughed out loud. The mandate of Grace TV is to communicate the sweet honey of what Jesus has already provided at the cross. Grace TV also follows in the footsteps of Jesus, who let religion feel His sting.

We see the sweetness of Jesus as “He was moved with compassion towards the people”, and “the common people heard Him gladly”. But parallel with His sweet love we see His sting as He told the people that the “religious traditions of men make the word of God of no effect”.

I laughed out loud and thought to myself, “we’ll put the bee in Grace TV”. Let our nation discover the sweet honey that is available for every sinner, every sick and hurting person, but let us also follow in the footsteps of Jesus, who exposed the emptiness of religion and directed people towards His grace.

Grace TV is a prophetic fulfillment. I’m writing with an urgency to let you know where Grace TV is at right now. From a human standpoint, there are no guarantees. This is a difficult time. We must immediately have many, who are willing to join as monthly committed partners. In addition, we need an immediate influx of $400,000.

I keep looking at three absolutes:

1. God gave us a prophetic word about Grace TV.

2. God’s faithfulness has helped us to this point. We have come this far by faith!

3. God’s people across Canada are responding to see this prophetic word fulfilled.

2010 is going to be the year of breakthrough for Grace TV. I need every partner to take the following steps:

This “New Covenant Prayer Shawl” is a reminder of Jesus and the blessing He has provided for you! -Peter

I have watched many times at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, as the people, wrapped in a prayer shawl, pray in their typically rocking motion. It is moving and sad at the same time, because many don’t know that the Messiah has already come.

Jesus told us that the Old Testament Scriptures and symbols reveal “Himself” (Luke 24:27). Jesus Christ is unmistakably present in every book of the Old Testament… in every story… every prophecy… in the Tabernacle… the Temple… and yes, also in the prayer shawl.

What does this have to do with Grace TV? Lots! This has been the birthing year of the Grace Television Network, and the whole purpose of this ministry is to reveal the beauty of Jesus.

The rain of blessing is the Holy Spirit rejuvenating, refreshing and accelerating your increase.

Rain is a symbol of God’s blessing. Joel prophesied “He will cause the rain to come down for you-- The former rain, and the latter rain” (Joel 2:23). This prophecy was fulfilled at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came. Look at how rain works:

Rain softens the soil for the seed, like the Holy Spirit prepares the dry unbelieving heart for the Gospel.

Rain falls indiscriminately. I’ve preached to huge crowds during a torrential downpour. Everyone got equally drenched. When the Holy Spirit reveals Jesus everyone gets equally drenched in His love; muslims, hindus, buddhists and christians.

Rain covers the earth systematically. No area is excluded. Rain falls in every place, even in the desert. Similarly there’s not one person outside of what Jesus did at the cross. God’s plan is the Gospel for every tribe, culture and person.

Rain refreshes. The Holy Spirit refreshes us, by reminding us what Jesus Christ has done.

Rain accelerates the harvest. With the right amount of rain, your harvest will quickly come to maturity.

Right now we are knee deep in an accelerated harvest. Our Gospel Festivals are in full swing, but our biggest salvation tool, Grace Television Network, is positioning us for a harvest beyond anything we have seen before.

This acceleration has to do with the prophetic destiny for Canada and for you.

Twenty years ago, while watching an American Christian television network, the Holy Spirit spoke clearly “Don’t switch the channel. Pay attention. One day you will do this.” Many times I wondered if God has really spoken to me. It looked so impossible. A TV channel? In Canada? How? It all seemed unreal.

When the opportunity to purchase the Christian Channel (now Grace TV) came, I instantly remembered that prophetic word. I used to wonder if I would have to move to another country to see this vision come to pass, but it has happened right here in Canada.

Look at the parallel between the rain of blessing and Grace TV.

Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain.” (1 Kings 18:44-45).

God’s rain of blessing is falling on Canada and on you. Elijah told the king “prepare your chariot”. I ask you to prepare yourself; get ready for God’s rain of blessing.

• Say “Yes” to the continuation of Canada’s largest 24/7 Gospel television network.

• Say “Yes” to saturating Canada with Grace TV.

• Say “Yes” to building Grace TV into a Gospel voice to the world.

• Say “Yes” to a harvest of God’s favor in your life.

Elijah asked for extraordinary measures to be taken. This is an extraordinary season. Our international Gospel Festivals are firing on all cylinders, while Grace TV is becoming a great harvester for Christ.

God’s rain of Holy Ghost blessing is just that- A BLESSING, BUT ALSO A GLORIOUS CHALLENGE.

The Christian Channel is now Grace TV

ST CATHARINES, ON – From September 16^th, 2009 The Christian Channel is renamed Grace Television Network, Grace TV. Grace Television Network is Canada's largest 24/7 provider of Christian programming and reaches more than 30 % of Canadian households. Grace TV’s objective is to double its broadcast coverage within Canada in two years. Long term goals include broadcasting Grace TV in international locations including USA, Europe, Africa and Asia.

I stood in the balcony of a pentecostal church, overflowing with more than 2,000 curiosity seekers. Four California hippies were softly singing “Hallelujah, Hallelujah”, accompanied only by a guitar. Across the street, a Lutheran church was filled to capacity with another couple of thousand listening in.

I was bewildered. Our church was used to an elaborate music program; orchestra, brass and a large choir abounding with talent. The services were structured and orderly. We knew what a good believer should look like: clean cut, Bible under the arm, and these hippies didn’t look like any of the Christians I knew.

It seemed unimaginable; long-haired, disheveled hippies by the thousands were embracing Jesus, drug-addictions were broken, and the movement was spreading in America, Canada and Europe. The church world argued, some fiercely denounced the new movement as of the devil, the great deception before the return of Jesus, while others like Billy Graham embraced it.

A few years earlier TIME Magazine had emblazoned their front page: “Is God Dead?” Now the front cover featured hippies baptized in the Pacific Ocean; obviously God was not as dead as some had imagined. Still today I meet people who were touched by this move of God. One pastor recently told me that he encountered Jesus in a street meeting, when a born again hippie spoke with him, “those 15 minutes changed my whole life, that’s why I am in ministry today”.

Of course historians can look back and find faults; immature leadership, lack of holiness, lack of structure, etc. Undoubtedly, they’re right, but the fact remains; Jesus was front page news, He was touching ordinary people, and much good remains today.

I had never heard a song with just one word” hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah”. Compared to the music ministries I was used to, this was rather unimpressive, yet ... there was something … a tangible anointing.

It seemed as if Jesus was right there. I looked at the people around me, many of them regular stoic church goers; their response was unmistakable, tears were flowing, Jesus was touching hearts. In that moment I recognized that nothing can substitute or replace… THE TANGIBLE PRESENCE OF JESUS.

That’s my story: I met Jesus, and His love has taken me around the world to millions of people of all religions. Jesus is as fresh and beautiful today as when I first met Him—only sweeter.

Jesus is the reason I said “Yes” to acquire The Christian Channel. You see, if I had said “no”, I would have denied everything God has spoken to me about Canada. Under the new name, Grace TV, this channel is to be a catalyst for the message of Jesus…in Canada…and to the World. Grace TV is not about Peter Youngren, or any ministry or producer––it’s about lifting up Jesus to our generation.

Today’s “Jesus Movement“ will be different, but ONE FACT remains; every move of God that has touched the broad masses had Jesus in focus. Our generation must discover Jesus!

It’s Grace TV under pressure.

With only 15 minutes until cameras roll, the downtown St. Catharines TV studio is humming.

Technicians and floor crew make last-minute adjustments, as the pace quickens and voices tighten.

Megen Thurber, a show producer, dabs makeup on Peter Youngren and his Calgary guest, pastor Anthony Greco.

“When you suddenly have to make changes, it’s very frantic,” Thurber explains. “It could be the format of the program, changing graphics or different video clips.

“Once the cameras start rolling, there’s nothing you can do, so you have to be sure everything is perfect.”

The talkshow Encounter will be filmed and edited on the spot — or “live to tape” — and broadcast later that day.

The men in the spotlight look relaxed before launching a lively discussion about faith.

Behind them is a mock backdrop of a big city skyline.

Youngren banters with a camera operator who insists he’ll never be heard singing on TV, no matter what Youngren wants.

Soon, crew member Nathan Thurber offers a quiet observation: “Umm — we need — a Bible.”

Then, all eyes and cameras are on Youngren, who beams a radiant smile.

“My guest today is one of the most exciting pastors in the whole nation of Canada,” he says, stretching the words out for emphasis. “He makes me laugh and cry at the same time.”

Last month, Youngren’s non-profit World Impact Ministries took over The Christian Channel, which is being rebranded Grace TV.

Youngren started World Impact in 1976 as a ministry that focuses on international Christian evangelical work.

It was based at Niagara Celebration Church on Scott Street, formerly the Word of Life Church, which he also founded.

For 15 years, World Impact has produced TV programs airing on channels like VisionTV and The Christian Channel and on U.S. channels.

It bought the former Royal Bank building at St. Paul and Queen street this year. After extensive renovations, taping for its new national digital channel started two weeks ago.

World Impact is now in the big leagues of 24-hour specialty TV broadcasting. On Cogeco, it’s found on channel 186 and on Star Choice / Star Direct, channel 399.

Christian television vows to be provocative

Nathan Thurber, World Impact’s business administrator and Megen’s husband, said the former bank centre was perfect for Grace TV’s new studio.

A proper site was badly needed, as its old space at the Scott Street church was a tight squeeze.

“The ceilings are high here, so it was a natural,” Thurber said. “We obviously had to put in the lighting grids, flooring and build the set.

“But as far as the room itself, it was perfect. Eventually, we’re going to have several different sets here with different backdrops.”

Other programs will include religious features, on-the-street interviews, and shows by other producers.

World Impact moved its offices from the church into the St. Paul Street building this week. Up to 80 people could be working at the site in two to three years.

Jack Wallace, chairman of the St. Catharines Downtown Association, said the new station is “fantastic” and adding workers in the core will be a boon to businesses.

“Anything that can showcase our downtown to bring residents and tourists downtown is really a good thing,” Wallace said.

“We’re also pleased they’ve taken over that high-profile building.”

Specialty channels like Grace TV are another example of breathtaking changes in the media and entertainment world.

These channels benefit from digital technology that makes them easier to distribute in digital cable and satellite packages, said Chris Waddell, acting director of Carleton University’s school of journalism and communication.

“Speciality channels have done, as a group, quite well financially compared to the over-the-air broadcasters,” Waddell said, adding that’s especially true for larger channels and those bundled into popular packages.

Specialty channels also get revenue from advertising and customer subscriber fees, he said.

“So if you can get a decent subscription base, you aren’t as reliant on advertising, as traditional over-the-air channels are.”

Before this week’s on-air interview at the Grace TV studio, Youngren collected himself in a room that was formerly a banker’s office.

“I’ve been preparing since before I got here,” said Youngren, who is president and CEO of The Christian Channel/ Grace TV.

“I woke up this morning, meditating a little bit, thinking about the Bible.”

Youngren has a high profile as an evangelical Christian broadcaster and made frequent world tours.

A former senior pastor at Niagara Celebration Church, he still preaches there on occasion.

Once known for strong conservative views, the Niagara resident has become a voice emphasizing the positive aspects of faith.

“I’ve always been one not to condemn people,” Youngren said. “But sometimes you’re guilty by association.

Youngren said he is inspired by Jesus’ tolerant teachings, “and how He dealt with hypocrisy and religious bigotry.”

“We’re trying to find producers that complement the message we want to get out to the public.”

He describes his own broadcasting style as an antidote to perceptions Christian TV is Dullsville.

“We’re upbeat and provocative. I think Christian television is too sedate sometimes and any good TV that’s watchable has conflict in it,” he said.

“Christian television tends to be everyone sitting around a table agreeing, saying the same thing.

“It makes it a little boring, even though (what) they’re saying may be exciting and good.”

Youngren said he’d even consider something you’d think a Christian station would never entertain — broadcasting from a downtown watering hole.

“We could have a segment in the pub every night,” he said.

“And we could talk to the people there and see what they think about God.”

ST. CATHARINES, ON - Swedish-born Canadian evangelist Peter Youngren has carved out a name for himself in Canada through his World Impacy Ministries (WIM). While he may not ne as well-known as Billy Graham or Benny Hinn, that may about to change with WIM’s purchase of The Christian Channel, to be branded as Grace Television Network.

Youngren’s purchase gives him an important new platform to reach new viewers through this specialty digital channel.

“Our vision has remained consistent Gospel advanvement, and we will continue this through The Christian Channel”, says Youngren, already seen throughtout the United States, Canada and 40 other nations through WIM’s Celebrate Life with Jesus program.

“The media industry hasn’t always looked favourably on Christian TV. We hope to change that perception by programming that relates to the Canadian public. Our style will be the same friendship approach we have used in our Gospel Festivals in Islamic, Hindu and Buddhist nations”.

Youngren’s aggressive brand of evangelistic outreach - he’s held “Gospel Festivals” in more than 90 nations, established offices in nine countries, authored 16 books and study manuals, founded a Bible school and two mega churches in southers Ontario - faces a number of challanges in matching Youngren’s lofty objectives here in Canada.

One challenge he faces will be fitting into an evangelical community which differs significantly from evangelicalism south of the border where his charismatic approach would seem to have more appeal.

While 30 per cent of the U.S. population identifies itself as evangelical (roughly 90 million people), only 8 to 12 per cent of 33 million Canadians would be classified as evangelical.

Canadian evangelical leaders contacted by Christian Week for this story mostly declined comment on Youngren and his purchase, either saying they had little contact with WIM or Youngren or knew little about the acquisition.

However, Richard Landau, senior executive producer of Balanced Programming for Crossroads Television System (CTS), welcomed Youngren’s purchase, noting, “the more Christian programming [in Canada], the better”.

Landau suggests Youngren will be challanged to make the digital channel a business success. Unlike The Christian Channel, CTS is available over regular caple, making it more accessible to the general public.

Landau says CTS’s focus on, “shining a light on the path, not in the face of viewers” sees a broader range of programming for believers and non-believers alike. The Chrisitan Channel will have a loyal following, but the question will be whether Youngren can reach beyond a core group of viewers”, says Landau.

Youngren acknowledges making The Christian Channel a success will be a challenge.

“First we need to get a strong financial footing. The channel has been running a signigicant deficit since it started”, he says. “Our task is now to pay the purchase price and to make the operation viable”.

“We’ll be paying close attention to finances, looking to God’s love to touch people’s heart to become involved. Our initial phase also includes doubling the current reach to about 65 per cent of Canadian households, and to increase awareness of the channel”.

New Headquarters for The Christian Channel and World Impact Ministries

ST CATHARINES, ON – World Impact Ministries (WIM) took over The Christian Channel (TCC) in the beginning of June; one month later the channel has moved its headquarters from Toronto to downtown St. Catharines. Renovations are almost finished at “St. Paul Place” building, previously known as the Royal Bank building.

The headquarters location is not the only change the new owner is initiating; TCC will be re-branded “Grace TV” by the end of the summer. 24-hour digital channel is already aired nationally, and it covers more than 30 % of Canadian households. Christian TV channel has faith in the core

St. Catharines downtown revitalization efforts got another boost with confirmation a Christian ministry and broadcaster is moving into the former Royal Bank building.

World Impact Ministries -- currently based at the Niagara Celebration Church on Scott Street -- plans to renovate the St. Paul Street building into a street-front TV studio and headquarters.

When the operation is fully ramped up, it could mean 70 or 80 new workers in the core.

On Monday, World Impact took over The Christian Channel, a digital channel that is aired nationally (in this area, on Cogeco channel 186 and on Star Choice/Star Direct channel 399).

That 24-hour channel will be rebranded Grace TV and aired from the St. Paul Street building.

Nathan Thurber, World Impact's business administrator, said the deal with Hughson Business Space Corp. has been signed and a studio should be operating by July 1 or earlier. The formal sale closing date is in late June.

Thurber said the move was prompted by a need for a proper studio. World Impact's current location is not suitable.

The former RBC building at the corner of Queen and St. Paul streets was constructed in 1968 after the old one was torn down. RBC moved to a new King Street location last year.

"With that whole window space on Queen Street, we're going to set up a studio right in front of the windows, like CityTV does, with the road in the background," Thurber said.

"And it'll certainly have St. Catharines (shown) throughout Canada.

"We sort of like that feature from a Christian television and programming perspective ... you're right on the street," he said.

"It's a very fresh new thing for Christian programming."

World Impact was founded in 1976 and focuses on international Christian evangelical work. It employs 35 people locally.

World Impact and Word of Life Church (now Niagara Celebration) were both started by Peter Youngren, who is president and CEO of The Christian Channel.

Thurber said while World Impact is based at the church, both are separate entities.

World Impact has produced TV programs that have aired on channels like VisionTV and The Christian Channel and on U. S. channels.

Thurber said some office space at the new St. Paul Street location could also be leased. He declined to reveal the purchase price of the property.

Thurber praised the support the organization has received from the City of St. Catharines and Mayor Brian McMullan.

McMullan sent a letter to the CRTC supporting the TV station transfer, which was approved last month: "I think that was a great help," Thurber said, adding CRTC approval for the channel has been a 17-month process.

McMullan called the move "great news."

"World Impact Ministries have been a welcome part of our community for many years," he said.

"To see them evolve and grow in this fashion is exciting for the faith community ... and also for the downtown and the city as a whole.”

"My understanding is they're going to have some visibility from the street in terms of some of their TV telecast and productions.”

"I think that'll create some excitement and interesting dynamic at that corner," McMullan said.

"It's a key corner, a central corner in our downtown core."

ST CATHARINES, ON – World Impact Ministries, a Canadian based religious charity known for media and international work, announced that approval from the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) was received for the purchase of The Christian Channel (TCC) from S-VOX group of companies, which includes Vision TV and One: the Body, Mind & Spirit channel.

The CRTC announced in its decision (2009-36) that it had received several supporting interventions, and approved the application for WIM to acquire TCC, a Category 2 specialty television channel broadcasting across Canada. The CRTC also noted in its ruling, “WIM has also committed to expanding the reach of the service to ensure that a sound religious television service will serve a large segment of the viewing audience in Canada through the establishment of a nightly flagship program and through the presentation of educational and entertaining religious programming. In addition, WIM has more than 15 years of experience in producing Christian television programming for the Canadian market and has the studio and the facilities to do so. The Commission considers that this transaction will provide financial stability for the undertaking, allowing it to continue to meet the needs of the community it serves.”
