Titanium Meets Carbon

Revel Bikes today released the Ranger Ti, the company’s first production full-suspension frame built around a titanium front triangle. The frame pairs this new front end with the carbon rear triangle and links from the Ranger V3 while maintaining the same geometry and kinematics.

Titanium has been a part of Revel since before its inception. The founding team launched Why Cycles in 2016 to build modern titanium bikes. Why merged with Revel in 2023, and the titanium program has run continuously since, producing hardtails, gravel bikes, and most recently the El Jefe Grande. Revel showed Project RaTical under its Concept Labs umbrella last summer, in the first public showing of its experimentation with 3D printing and titanium full suspension. The Ranger Ti is the culmination of those efforts and their first production titanium full-suspension platform.

Geometry and kinematics carry straight over from the carbon Ranger V3. Higher anti-squat and higher progression keep the Ranger’s downcountry intent intact: efficient pedaling, active suspension, and a supportive, bottomless feel through the travel. A steep seat tube angle, slightly longer reach, slack head angle, and lower bottom bracket round out a geometry built for long days and confident descents.

Why 3D printed Titanium?

​Revel used the most advanced 3D printing technology for the headtube, upper shock mount, bottom bracket, and pivot interfaces on the front triangle. This has allowed Revel to leverage the shape not only for aesthetics, but also to accomplish things traditional machining and forging cannot. Welding titanium and putting multiple pivot points in precise locations can be super tough, and create either a bike that is too heavy, not strong enough, or sacrifces on the kinematics because pivot points had construction limitations. 3D printing removes that, and allows Revel to use its “carbon engineering oversight” to make a titanium bike with all the modern features of a carbon frame. Stiff 3D printed junctions are sleeved and then welded to titanium tubing to optimize the supple ride feel of titanium and strength of 3D printing. The frames are third party ISO tested in California and represent true limits of materials engineering, 3D printing, and titanium fabrication. All combining with Revel’s carbon expertise and pivot hardware/bearing interface to make a bike that rides incredibly well.

Impressions

The Kenda Ripper Trail is a versatile trail and all-mountain mountain bike tire that bridges the gap between fast-rolling XC/downcountry tires and heavier enduro options. The inner 3, 2, 2 knob pattern provides plenty of traction, and the tall lugs let you bite into loose, packed, and rocky conditions. The tall, large shoulder knobs provide excellent braking and cornering, and I didn’t feel any washout, even in super-dry, dusty, loose conditions. Plus, once it rained, they didn’t compact too much with mud, offering traction in the slop. At 965g per 29×2.6 tire, I was quite happy with how light they were for such a beefy tire. Most of my tires with excellent traction control abilities mean tires weigh a portly 1100-1220 g. I bashed them into rocks and roots, and suffered no damage. They felt pretty fast, rolled well, and offered excellent traction in my local Colorado pea-gravel terrain (kitty litter). I could crank on the pedals, and the tires gave me tractor grip in any conditions; meaning I didn’t suffer any spin-outs.

The Ripper is about a perfect tire: light enough not to turn a wagon wheel, with plenty of beefy protection, feel, control, braking, and traction.

What were the goals for this project? Replace the Regolith with a more modern, higher-performing tread pattern and develop a new All Mountain construction better suited for modern trail bikes and e-MTBs.

Who is the Ripper AM designed for? Intermediate to advanced MTB and e-MTB riders looking for one tire that can cover everything from local trail rides to gravity-fed terrain while maintaining speed and grip.

Who is the Ripper Trail designed for? Riders who want a fast, efficient trail tire with confident traction but don’t need enduro-level aggression.

Many of SHREDLY’s prints are inspired by the incredible women and role models in the mountain bike community, people who embody what it means to adventure in style, and TINA and Jonesy III are two of the best examples of that spirit.

TINA is Back, And She’s Still Magic

One of the most requested prints in SHREDLY history has returned. TINA features an enchanted forest with unicorns, bunnies, and squirrels, and wearing it is scientifically guaranteed to make you at least 10x happier (results may vary, but probably not).

TINA is named for Tina Ooley, a rider whose energy is as unmistakable as the print itself. TINA dedicates her time to teaching and mentoring youth and women mountain bikers through EveryPedal, a program now celebrating its 10-year anniversary, along with other initiatives that open the sport up to riders who might not otherwise have access to it. Her philosophy is simple: the lessons learned on the bike carry into everyday life, and she’s spent a decade spreading that pixie dust on trails everywhere.

In her own words: “My favorite way to adventure is to wear a fabulous outfit that makes me feel good, have all the snacks and sparkles and have as much fun as possible with a little suffering mixed in.”

Unicorns are magical. So is TINA. The print just makes it official.

Jonesy III: Dino Power, Baby!

Your favorite prehistoric friends are stomping back into the lineup with the return of Jonesy III, now in a fresh new colorway.

The print is named for Stephanie Jones, former SHREDLY team member and current brand ambassador. Stephanie was a bike shop buyer who carried SHREDLY and was, without fail, the most excited person in the room every time a new line dropped. Sparkles, amazing outfits, and infectious enthusiasm are her calling cards, so when she pitched a dino-inspired print back in 2017, it stuck.

The concept drew straight from Stephanie’s own history: childhood trips to the dinosaur exhibit at Marine World, a serious dinosaur book collection, and a lifelong love of the original Jurassic Park. Naturally, when SHREDLY finally brought the idea to life, there was only one name it could carry.

Stephanie was hands-on with the original color planning, too. One early color combo option was her personal favorite, but didn’t end up being released. But SHREDLY made one exclusively for Stephanie and gifted it to her the day they revealed the print would bear her name.

Dinosaurs are not extinct. They are here to stay with SHREDLY.
