Ada Township Park Offers Make a Birdfeeder Program Feb 11 2012

Ada Township Parks and Recreation has a great class for families

and individuals to invite nature into their own backyard. They will be

offering a “Make A Birdfeeder” on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at 10:00am.

Birds are stressed in the winter trying to find food, especially

under snowfall. Even with the open winter we have had this year,

birds struggle to maintain their daily intake. Offering food in a back

yard birdfeeder helps the birds get the necessary nutrients they need

to stay healthy all year.

The Birdfeeder Program will help identify local winter birds, help

attract them to your backyard, and help you build a wooden birdfeeder

to take home and install. All materials and supplies will be included.

Participants will also learn how to be a part of the Great Backyard Bird

Count held Feb 17-20 throughout the United States. This event tallies

more than 10 million observations from Citizen Scientists in the U.S.

and provides locations of over 600 bird species.

616-676-0520 or email mfitspatrick@adatownshipmi.com by Thurs,

Feb 9th. Cost is $10 per bird feeder, payable at the event.

Caledonia Michigan Real Estate Market Report Jan-Dec 2011

Caledonia real estate has the an inventory problem, just like

most of the area. Too many homes for sale and too few buyers.

Months of inventory peaked at almost a 2 year supply at the beginning of

2011 and fell in the spring and summer months, then started climbing

again as fall progressed into winter. Though high inventory is way below

last winter’s highs.

Average sale price is still depressed in Caledonia as elsewhere, as

evidenced by the distance between average list price and average sale

price in the chart above.

The huge unknown for any real estate market this year, is when

and how the foreclosures and bank owned homes will re-enter

the marketplace. If they are dribbled back onto the market,

prices may hold steady. If these homes are dumped back on

the market, en mass, this will lead to further price erosion

for all homes.

Kentwood Michigan Real Estate Market Jan-Dec 2011

Kentwood Michigan is a large suburb of Grand Rapids with a population

under 50,000. It has manufacturing, shopping centers, and lots and lots

of residential housing. Kentwood Public Schools are one of the largest

school systems in the area with over 9000 students and 16 buildings

within a 24.25 square mile area.

Number of homes for sale has dropped in Kentwood by the end of 2011.

This should help recovery but sales is still lagging behind normal rates.

Months of inventory is way down also by the end of 2011, nearing normal

at the outside of 6 months.

East Grand Rapids is a community of homes priced from the

low $100,000’s to over $2,000,000 with the majority of homes

selling from $120K to $400K. East Grand Rapids is a very popular

place to live and the months of home inventory, lowest in the

Grand Rapids area, shows this.

Home inventory is down to a new level in East GR, but as you can see

by the graph above, home sales are still not driving prices up, so far.

Forest Hills is actually a school district in Ada–Cascade Michigan

real estate market that is always active. This Grand Rapids suburban

community has wonderful neighborhoods, some new and some older

with Top Ranked Forest Hills Public Schools, and private schools,

that attract many home owners.

This report will cover the 2011 real estate market activity:

Home inventory is still high compared to buyer demand even though it

has dropped from last years low levels. Buyers are still in the drivers seat.

We are starting to see home inventory levels that are approaching

a normal market. This means that desirable homes [those that are in good

condition and available for a quick turn-around] will be scarcer than in the

recent past.

Grand Rapids Pepsi Club Indoor Concerts 2012

There are three concerts playing in The Outlaw Music Series

for winter 2012 at Fifth Third Ball Park:

Friday, January 27th – Nervous But Excited

Thursday, February 9th – Will Hoge

Thursday, February 16th – North Mississippi Allstars Duo wsg. Alvin Youngblood Hart

Doors at 7:00 pm and music starts at 8:00 pm for all shows.

Remember these are indoor concerts – no winter weather gear is needed!

Don’t let the ball park address deter you, this small venue is a nice place for

an intimate atmosphere. You are never far from the stage and the acoustics

are more like a nightclub.

Home Safe – 15 Home Safety Tips

Many accidents happen in the home. In the winter months,

lots of time is spent in the home, so checking home safety issues makes

sense now. In an emergency you don’t have time to waste.

Are electrical extension cords in good condition?
Are electrical outlets overloaded?
Do you know how to turn off the gas, electricity, & water in case of emergency?
Are all floor coverings fastened down?
Are open flames such as candles kept away from walls and curtains?
Are fireplaces screened and protected?
Do you have smoke detectors and have you checked the batteries?
Do you have an approved fire extinguisher on each floor?
Do you have emergency phone numbers–police, fire, doctor, utilities in a prominent place?
Are firearms unloaded and locked up?
Are unused electrical outlets covered or locked?
Are open windows securely screened?
Do interior doors have locks that allow them to be opened from either side?
Are proper fuses used rather than pennies or substitutes?
Are extension cords crossing heavily trafficked areas?
