]]> The Graphic Arts Association will be going on a trip to Washington D.C. from April 4-8 (Mid-Semester Break).

]]> From now until Tuesday, December 6 at 11AM, the Graphic Arts Association is holding a fundraiser where YOU have the ability to cut and shape the President’s (Kyle Busse) and Advisor’s (John Conati) hair any way you want.

It will cost $1 for a raffle ticket for the President and $5 for a raffle ticket for the Advisor. If you want a ticket, please see anyone currently on the E-Board to purchase one. On Tuesday, December 6 at 11AM during the last general meeting of the semester, we will be picking the winner of the raffle.

Dinner (beef, chicken, and vegetarian option) will be provided for free (per your dues) if you are a paying member. Conati will announce the E-Board for the 2012 year. There will also be a guest speaker following the dinner.

I will pass around a sign up sheet on November 15 during the meeting. Also, you may bring a guest if you wish. If you do bring a guest, they will be required to pay for the dinner. I will let you know how much they have to pay on November 15.

]]> Election Day will be November 1 during the general meeting, which takes place at 11AM in SWAN 218. You must be there if you are a paying member and want to vote. Each of the nominees will give a 1-3 minute speech, followed by a question and answer session. We will then vote, and the votes will then be handed over to Conati. He will announce the new E-Board at the banquet.

There is also a change in the electing procedure. The nominees will be allowed to run for multiple positions. When the votes are handed over to Conati, he will start off at President and make his way down. From there, if someone is elected for a higher position, then their name will be crossed out for the other positions. This change was done to give members a chance to get on the E-Board to show their leadership skills instead of tying them down to one position.

]]> Before the job fair, Independent Printing Co., Inc. and Quad/Graphics will be having a presentation on Thursday, October 6 from 9AM-11AM in SWAN 218. They will be talking about the company, culture, and the positions that they are offering for jobs and internships. Brandon Martinez and David Curley will be speaking for Independent, while Tom Walker and Ben Kreuzer will be speaking for Quad/Graphics.

The job fair for the fall semester will be held on Thursday, October 6 from 11AM to 3PM. This event will take place at the Wink Arena.

I strongly encourage everyone to attend, whether or not you are looking for an internship or a job. It is important to start building relationships with companies and employers, as they may help you find an internship or job later on.

The following companies will be looking to talk to people that have a printing background:

  • Independent Printing Co., Inc.
  • Quad/Graphics
  • InnerWorkings
  • AJM Packaging Corporation
  • Consolidated Graphics

Talk to other companies that are there as well, as they may have information about jobs or internships in the printing industry.

The items that you should have on hand with you are 5-10 resumes, business cards, and positive energy. Also, dress up for this event. You want to present yourself in a professional way to these employers.

The job fair will be on Thursday, October 6 from 11AM to 3PM. This event will be held in the Wink Arena. Make sure that you have a resume in hand, and also business cards if you have them.



Remember, people hire people. Make your resume look professional, and detail your experiences. The goal of a resume is to get an interview.

    ]]>     It has been brought to my attention that there have been some concerns regarding the trip. There will be 14 people attending, which means that we are going to book four rooms (up from the original three rooms). The official price, for 14 people, is $140 per person.

    The next deposit for the trip is due on March 15, and will be $50. You can give the money to Nanette or pay through Paypal.

    There will be two vans reserved to drive down to Wisconsin. Greg Wojo and Tom Walker will be the drivers. Everyone will be assigned to a van. Van assignments are as followed:

    VAN 1 (TOM): Jake, Jason, Cyle, John, Jennie, Ethan
    VAN 2 (GREG): Ariel, Mackenzie, Kameron, Nanette, Josh, Angela

    We will be leaving on April 1st in the SWAN Parking Lot at a time to be determined (possibly at 3 or 4AM)

The purpose of this event is to help students understand more about how certain services on the Web work, and to go over the kinds of things you’ll encounter in the work force.     ]]>     Due to some difficulties with the design, we are modifying the way the t-shirt looks in terms of the colors and position of the logo. The shirt will still be a one-sided design, as the general assembly voted for. We will be changing some of the ink colors, as the CMYK colors either conflict with each other or do not match. Chris has showed us an ink chart for the company, and the magenta would not look like magenta at all.

    The design is still in the bottom left corner, one-sided. Same design, different colors.

    For these reasons, we will be finalizing the t-shirt this Thursday at the committee meeting. If you want to help or give suggestions, I strongly recommend you be there.
