Recently, Grassroots Films’ crew traveled to the South to film some local businesses doing some big things. Here, our crew was shooting on location in New Orleans, Louisiana. These shrimping boats were affected by numerous disasters near the end of the Mississippi River.

Our crew also filmed at Earthborn Pottery in Leeds, Alabama. Stay tuned for more details about this upcoming project.

Child 31 Inspires Teens to Walk Across Iceland

Grassroots Films is always thrilled to hear how our latest film Child 31 is inspiring audiences to reach out and help others through Mary’s Meals. The most recent news is that of two teenagers from Somerset, England, William White and James Hobbs, who set off July 3rd to walk across Iceland to raise funds for Mary’s Meals, the organization that helps feed more than 700,000 children every day.

After watching Child 31, White and Hobbs were inspired to raise awareness for hunger and poverty. After arranging a long trek across the picturesque country of Iceland, the two boys set out on their journey to make history. If their journey is successful, the two seventeen year olds will have walked 372 miles and be the first and the youngest to travel across all of Iceland.

James’ father, Andrew Hobbs, told Mary’s Meals that aside of the worry he could feel for his son and his friend, he is “impressed they’ve managed to arrange such a complex trek and that they’re doing it all to help those less fortunate than themselves.”

William and James plan to reach the north of Iceland by August 1st. So far, they have run into a few obstacles, as James explains, “We’ve struggled a bit with food as one of the packages did not arrive as arranged but we’re in good spirits and looking forward to the next stage. There’s about ten days’ walking left.”

Grassroots Films sends their best wishes to William and James in hopes that they complete their trek in the name of the many underprivileged children that are fed each day by Mary’s Meals. Keep up the amazing work!

Building the Vision for the First Feature Film

From the office at Grassroots Films, writers continue to workshop the script for their first feature-length film. Writers Cyndi Amaya and Michael Campo join with director Chuck Kinnane along with Matt and Brian to brainstorm the direction of the film. The storyline explores the complexities of life and death and raises ideas regarding faith and purpose.

While working on scripting, producers at Grassroots are also continuing work on their seven-part short film series. The third part is nearly finished and work on Part IV will begin shortly.

'The Human Experience-Poland' Grows To New Heights

With the popularity of 'The Human Experience', movements in individual countries have started forming across the globe. The biggest one to date is 'The Human Experience−Poland'. Together with Grassroots Films they are promoting faith, hope and love; values seen throughout the film. More than 100 different screenings have been held in cities, churches, and schools throughout all of Poland and that number is still growing.

Just recently, 'The Human Experience' was shown to the youngest screening audience yet- children of ages 12 and 13. They enjoyed the film and had many questions about the lepers and the children in Peru, during the Q&A.

Maciej Syka, Coordinator for 'The Human Experience−Poland' is currently visiting Grassroots Films in New York and has shared his experience with us. “This movie deeply impacted my life and my country, especially the youth. It encouraged them to seek out opportunities to volunteer and help people in need.”

Grassroots Films' Child 31 Found It's Way to Papal Audiences

Grassroots Films is proud to announce that our latest production, 'Child 31', has made its way up to a Papal audience. Recently, Mary's Meals' founder, Magnus Macfarlane-Barrow received an invitation to the Vatican to be recognized by Pope Francis and along with him came a copy of our film.

Magus founded Mary's Meals, a charity that provides nourishment in schools for children in lesser developed countries, which currently feeds more than 650,000 children daily. Last year, Grassroots Films released 'Child 31', a powerful new documentary capturing Mary's Meals' life-changing work in action throughout Malawi, Kenya, and India and its mission to help millions of children around the world realize their dreams.

The organization's efforts were certainly noticed by Pope Francis, who, since inaugurated, has led the fight against poverty. Grassroots Films hopes that 'Child 31' can inspire, not only the Vatican, but the entire world to help provide the thousands of children throughout the world that go on without nourishment and education.

"The Human Experience" brought to Women's Correction Facility

Last night Joe Campo, Executive Producer,and Charles Kinnane, Director conducted a live Q&A skype session following a screening of "The Human Experience". The audience: The Department of Correction Women's Center Prision in Wyoming. All the women participate in a a program geared towards communication. While there, they are able to express their thoughts and feelings, allowing them to release stress and communicate more effectively in a healthy way.

Work in progress! We had yet another successful day of script analysis today with our crew on our upcoming feature film. Michael Campo, Writer and Clifford Azize, Producer, discuss the importance of "reaching out" to our audience to make a lasting impact. From character development to the smaller details, everything makes a difference.

Our current project is a feature-length narrative discussing life, death, as well as purpose. Earlier this month, we shared with you the story of Vlad, a homeless street performer who asks these very questions. If you haven't seen his story yet, you can check it out here.
