Free Open Source FreeNAS Server - Windows Home Server Substitute

Want to utilize your old hardware? Don’t want to pay for Windows Home Server?
Today an average computer user has a variety of machines: desktops, laptops, Wi-Fi-enabled smartphones, and networked game consoles. Most probably have terabytes of ripped movies, music, and photos. Having a central location where all of those files lived that was accessible to all your computing devices would be nice. That would also be a place where you could back up all of your computers, host your media files for streaming to your console or other computers, and use as a file share for your whole network.

All of the above can be done with Windows Home Server but the license costs 100 bucks, and doesn’t necessarily play well with non-Windows machines. FreeNAS is a free, open-source FreeBSD derivative, and it’s as powerful as Windows Home Server and more importantly it runs well on salvaged hardware. FreeNAS plays well with Windows, Apple, and *nix systems.

McDonald’s is to offer unlimited free WiFi Internet access. That will be the easiest spot to browse the Web for free and for as long as you like.

McDonald’s is lifting a fee for two hours of wireless Internet access starting in mid-January.

Reportedly the free Wi-Fi will be available at about 11,000 of 14,000 U.S. locations. McDonald’s has used Wi-Fi provided by AT&T Inc. for several years. They first launchthe service at 75 locations in San Francisco in 2003.

If you wish to use Wi-Fi on the plane bellow you will find a list of the codes you can use to get free internet access during your flight.

Currently here are four airlines in the USA where you can Internet over WiFi.
These are Delta, AirTran, American Airlines and Virgin America.
The first three require a code to get free Wi-Fi.

Virgin America doesn’t require any codes.
These are the codes you will need to use:

Fulton Innovation tries to fulfil Tesla’s wireless power vision

Fulton Innovation’s eCouple technology is being billed as “intelligent wireless power.” A process called “near-field inductive coupling” allows for devices to charges or run other devices. Place a blender on a slab with an eCoupled chip inside, and the blender can start whirring.
The Fulton folks have come up with an intelligent inductive coupling technology that essentially allows a device to be charged simply by putting them down on any surface. The catch is that the device has to have an inductive coupling coil and chip set imbedded within it, and the table- or countertop has to contain matching coil-fed spots. A table top would be built with pencil eraser-sized magnetic induction coil spots such as the one in the picture above, designed to charge and/or power a induction coupling-enabled device placed over one.

Visa, the world’s largest credit card network, posted higher-than-expected quarterly earnings on Wednesday as consumers used their cards more and boosted revenue, sending the shares higher.
Visa shares [V 49.13 0.74 (+1.53%) ], which closed on Wednesday at $49.13, soared over 7 percent in extended trading.

Etta said: “I can’t stand Beyonce! She’s going to get her ass whooped.” She than went on to slam Barack Obama for selecting Ms. Knowles to do the honors saying “You know your president, the one with the big ears, he ain’t my president, he had that woman singing for him at his Inauguration. How dare Beyonce sing my song that I been singing forever!”

Nobody seems to know why Etta was so disturbed by this, especially because Beyonce had already sang the song at Fashion Rocks, for AOL Live Sessions and in “Cadillac Records.”

A titanic snake that was longer than a London bus and snacked on crocodiles has been identified as the top predator to slither, the land after dinosaurs disappeared.
It weighed 1.25 tonnes and with a length of 45 feet or more it would have been able to take on and eat pretty much any other animal it came across.

The newly discovered type of snake, named Titanoboa in honour of its immense size, was for 10 million years the largest land predator on earth.

Associated Press Reports: With an upgrade to its mobile maps, Google Inc. hopes to prove it can track people on the go as effectively as it searches for information on the Internet.
The new software to be released Wednesday will enable people with mobile phones and other wireless devices to automatically share their whereabouts with family and friends.
The feature, dubbed “Latitude,” expands upon a tool introduced in 2007 to allow mobile phone users to check their own location on a Google map with the press of a button.
“This adds a social flavor to Google maps and makes it more fun,” said Steve Lee, a Google product manager.
It could also raise privacy concerns, but Google is doing its best to avoid a backlash by requiring each user to manually turn on the tracking software and making it easy to turn off or limit access to the service.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports that a representative of the all-everything linebacker phoned USC on Tuesday to inform them of his change of plans.

Burfict is a monster get for coach Dennis Erickson and the Arizona State Sun Devils — assuming they can get him in school, a major concern for all parties. Burfict (seen above mauling some poor high school running back) has long been rumored to have a difficult grade and test score situation that may not pass muster with the NCAA Clearinghouse or the colleges themselves.

REPORT: Autopsy reveals sixth NFL player suffered from head trauma related brain damage.
Latest research indicates that damage may accumulate in the brain from repetitive head trauma, even if injuries are allowed to heal.
Chris Nowinski knows well the impact of concussions. He was a football star at Harvard before wrestling professionally with World Wrestling Entertainment.

Tom McHale, who played guard for three NFL teams from 1987 to 1995, was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), brain damage caused by repeated head trauma, when he died from a multiple-drug overdose last year, researchers at Boston University School of Medicine announced today.

Over the past two years, researchers have examined the brains of seven former NFL players, including McHale, all of whom died by the age of 50. Six turned out to have had CTE, which is characterized by the buildup of toxic proteins that form dangerous tangles in the brain, and that at the moment, can be found only by autopsy. CTE can cause victims to lose control of their emotions and impulses and to suffer memory loss and depression and can eventually lead to dementia.
