Tun Mahathir delivers a blow on the government!Sultan has no power to remove MB!!!!!

Tun Mahathir has send shockwaves in Najib's administration by saying Sultan which in this case Sultan of Perak has NO POWER as declared in the federal constitution to remove Menteri Besar or head of state in this case Datuk Seri Nizar. He stated further that only the elected head of state can be removed by a vote of no confidence in the state assembly.

However,Well in this case Mahathir was quick to add that the situation in Perak was different.

While he did not explain how it was different, the former premier could be alluding to the on-going court case to determine the legitimate menteri besar in Perak.

The state has been undergoing a political turmoil ever since the Perak sultan urged the Pakatan Rakyat Menteri Besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin to resign in February following the coalition's deficit in numbers in the assembly as a result of three defections.

The sultan had then appointed Barisan Nasional's Zambry Abd Kadir as the new menteri besar - a move which resulted in a political and administrative chaos in the state.

A state assembly sitting is to take place tomorrow where Zambry is expected to consolidate his position as the menteri besar.

However Pakatan-elected representatives are also equally adamant in not giving up power.

Constitution is 'clear' on the matter

Mahathir also refused to comment on his thoughts if Zambry's appointment was legitimate.

"I said the case of Perak crisis is something else, something that is being decided by the court... [but] under the constitution and as far as I know, the federal constitution states very clearly that a monarch cannot remove a prime minister.

"He can refuse to appoint a prime minister, but once appointed you cannot remove him until there's a vote of no confidence made against him," he said after delivering a keynote address on the separations of powers in Putrajaya today.

When asked again if this principle applied in the case of Perak, he said: "I should think that it applies to the state but if Perak is different, then I stand corrected."

Nizar has filed a suit against Zambry on the question of legitimacy and the matter is being heard at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.

This is actually most characteristic of many Malaysians. They tend to interpret history and their destiny in terms of personalities, instead of the historical forces at work over and above these individuals. They also tend to be mesmerised by authoritative figures. When a new PM arrives and makes the right noises, hope burns eternal in their hearts that this new man will bring good tidings.

They have been so downtrodden under the old regime that anybody new in the country’s top job will rekindle their hope. This false hope has been used to keep BN in power time and again.

The outcoming of By-Elections in Malaysia and why must this stop

Actually By election can determine the outcome of A general election.
As example before the a election,if a certain party or coalition wins with a big majority or boost huge popularity then the General nationwide election can be easily determined the outcome which is now in the current senario i think BN will lose or win by a even slighter margin then now which isn't 2/3 of the seats in parliment.
The new prime minister DS Najib said Barisan Nasional might not contest the Penanti state by-election if it obtains the consensus of all component parties.It's because they already know it's a fallen cause and just waste of money.To further elaborate issues he will discuss with other BN component members on the best possible way of tackling this issue as in hope it will not get politicized but i am sure it will and this will only just exploits the government weaknesses

"I will raise the matter at the next Umno Supreme Council meeting. If I don't have the time, I will bring it up to the Political Bureau, and discuss with the Barisan component party presidents," he said.

Najib said he did not rule out the possibility of Barisan not contesting as the latest by-election in Penang was clearly a "political ploy" by the Opposition.

"No, we are not afraid of losing to them but it is a sheer waste of public funds.

"Whatever decision we make, we will take into consideration whether it benefits the people," he told reporters at a press conference at his residence near here on Saturday.

but in a direct attack to this issue Tun mahathir said that BN should not be scared to contest Penanti as this is what the goverment is for which is to try and show the rakyat that government is always willing to take care of a opposition state.
So he has urged Barisan Nasional (BN) to drop the idea of not contesting the Penanti by-election in Penang.
To do so, he said, would be to concede defeat to the opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

The former PM does not seem to be on the same page as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who floated the idea yesterday of not contesting the polls.

“If it was in an Umno area, I am sure that we will contest. However, since it is in an Opposition area, we do not want to contest.

“But if we wait to contest only in Umno areas, then there would not be any Umno’s areas and we would not have to contest anywhere,” he said in Raub, Pahang today.

Najib had argued that contesting elections he claimed were unnecessary was a waste of public funds.

His idea appeared to have gained traction with many BN leaders voicing their support and accusing Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of using elections for political purposes.

Since last year’s landmark general elections, BN has lost four out of five by-elections held so far to Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

The latest defeats, in Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau, were particularly galling for BN as it came soon after Najib took over as PM from Tun Abdullah Badawi, the man who has been singled out for blame for the coalition’s poor performances.

Today, Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Yusof was quoted by Sin Chew Daily as saying he was seeking a meeting with both BN and PR to urge them not to contest the polls.

The EC chairman echoed Najib’s call, but he did not cite any legal or constitutional provisions which would allow the vote to be called off.

but i think that PR will win this seat as this is the backbone of Anwar's parliment so BN will not contest

Dr Mahathir’s latest remarks will be the latest test for Najib’s fledgling leadership of BN as the PM will want to assert his leadership.

The Penanti state seat has fallen vacant due to the resignation of Fairus Khairuddin, who also resigned recently as the state’s deputy chief minister amid graft allegations.

Penanti is a state seat which falls within Anwar’s Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency.

Yesterday, Anwar also welcomed Najib’s suggestion, saying he was happy if BN did not contest the vote.

Dr Mahathir said that when he was prime minister, Umno never withdrew from any election, including in Kelantan, a PAS stronghold.

“Winning or losing is a separate matter but if we do not contest then the other party has already won,” he said.

“History has proven that Umno can face giant powers, including the British in our struggle for independence.

“The fighting spirit of those days should be a lesson to present and future generations.”

we all know about the Najib and Altantuya case ..
as we know the now conviceted man named Razak Baginda was Najib's right hand man as
was seen as privotal in his upcomings to the world politics arena..i don't want to elaborate more as there are many news on the web..just google it.Razak when convicted to the high court was caught swearing and cursing Najib's(???) name like Laknat ko!!! and so on..
it was even mentioned on a daily paper ..i think the sun.the free paper la..
and this actually caught attention of many people excluding Najib and co himself..
we all know about altantuya's relation with najib's wife,a hard one and cannot be excluded from Fact that she disliked altantuya greatly for some reasons i cannot seem why and maybe the cause(???) but who knows..
well the bodyguards captured didn't possessed great info about the C4 bom made to kaboom!(explode) altantuya's body.This must be made possible with the help of an high official authority
namely...that has relations to the defence industry(maybe the big guy himeself).
well for the time being nobody in this country has adequite info on the C4 bom knowledge and i like to know who can except...

in the altantuya trial ,Mongolian witness caused a stir in court when she revealed that murdered Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu had been photographed having a meal with a Malaysian government official named Najib Razak.
Burmaa Oyunchimeg (left), also known as Amy, told the Shah Alam High Court that Altantuya had shown her the photo when she returned from a trip to France.
It is believed that the government official in the photograph is Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who has close ties with political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda.
The latter has been charged with abetting the murder of Altantuya, 28.
This morning, Burmaa, 26, had mentioned the photograph when cross examined by deputy public prosecutor Manoj Kurup.
However, she was cut short by the prosecution when she said the photograph showed Altantuya having a meal with Razak and a “government official.” She was then quizzed on other matters.
About 20 minutes later, lawyer Karpal Singh, who is holding a watching brief for the deceased’s family, sought permission from the court to pose a question on the photograph.
‘They had the same name’
This drew protests from the prosecution and a verbal exchange ensued on the relevance of the question. However, judge Mohd Zaki Mohd Yusni granted Karpal permission.
The veteran lawyer then proceeded to ask Burmaa on what was depicted in the photograph.
“She (Altantuya) was having a meal with Razak (Baginda), a Malaysian government official and other people,” she replied.
Karpal then asked her on the identity of the government official, and she replied: “I remember the name Najib Razak, they had the same name. I thought they were brothers. I asked her (Altantuya) if they were brothers.”
This sparked off another exchange between the prosecution and Karpal..
well know is the picture containing RAZAK baginda,altantuya and a top goverment official isn't found yet.

Do we ever wonder what will happen when the pakatan rakyat succeeds in it's quest for power..
Despite numerous allegations of Anwar saying that malay majority is still there and Pas's commitment on it's majority of malay and islam government but i just don't see that happening because the Sabah's and Sarawak's people aren't many Malay as they are bumi's and plus with the MCA's seat in the government makes it all enough to form a government without malay power.That surely is a thought for us to think about...It is not saying i am on his or her side but by the way of the DAP extremists are now wracking havoc and disobeying call and order in the Pakatan with it's HINDRAF shit,BAR council so-called forums with some disarray with his highness the Sultan of Perak about the Menteri Besar's seat i don't see that peace will prevail and Malay special rights will not be stampeded on by the DAP's...But Barisan weak leadership also make me not supporting the present government so i still have to remain neutral and not taking sides..Just a word of thought for me and youl

well a long wait here..A long time of me not posting due to examinations and other commitments.. but then who cares?The main fact i am celebrating Hari Raya Aidil Fitri in my country of malaysia.
Now i can say Malaysia is in its worst state of affairs to be honest from the resignation of Zaid Ibrahim the minister of law enforcement to the rebel party of SAPP broken out of BN and causing mass havoc within and without it's party..
well i can say the Anwar Ibrahim deadline of 16 Sept hasn't failed as it says of the obstacles being put by the BN government..and the uncertain UMNO elections date deadline...hehe some party that state of affairs is in to..
and the MCA elections has it's turnings and thrills especially with some sabotage done on Chua Soi LEk...the main culprit in the sex video causing his resignation from the government a not so long time ago..It is said some pictures resembling him is being spreaded to delegates addresses..Well what on earth did they get the adresses from???Some party sabotage i will tell ya...
anyway this raya inflation in malaysia has risen..state monetry affairs has just gotten worst with some Investors pulling out due to the political instability and nonsense policies of the government that isn't so favourable and just cannot compete with other nations aka thailand,vietnam or even Indonesia!!
we pray that the new government will give us a new hope and light without discriminating malays like me.if it happens you don't want to know the consequences it will have on the PR government with the army consists of 90 percent malays maybe?revolting...

KENYATAAN AKHBAR

1. Pemecatan Dari Jawatan Presiden Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIA )

1.1. Sidang akhbar saya pada 5hb Jun, 2008, menjelaskan bahawa saya tidak akan meletakkan jawatan saya sebagai Presiden UIA secara sukarela, hanya kerana saya tidak lagi menjadi ahli UMNO.

1.2. Saya tidak bersalah kerana saya tidak menggunakan jawatan saya untuk kepentingan politik pribadi.

1.3. Siaran akhbar Utusan Malaysia bertarikh 10hb Jun 2008, yang menyatakan sebagai berikut ‘Beliau(saya) mendakwa tiada siapa yang boleh memecatnya sehingga tempoh perkhidmatannya tamat pada 2010’ adalah fitnah semata.

1.4. Sila rujuk kenyataan saya di sidang akhbar bertulis yang diedarkan kepada berbagi pihak media bertarikh 5 June 2008.

1.5. Sidang akhbar pada tarikh tersebut dan juga sidang akhbar pada tarikh ini diedarkan secara bertulis untuk menghindarkan fitnah yang diramalkan mungkin berlaku.

2. Tidak Salahguna Kuasa

2.1. Syarat ‘tidak menggunakan jawatan Presiden untuk kepentingan politik pribadi’ telah dinyatakan oleh YB Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi sebagaimana tersiar di dalam akhbar pada hari Ahad 1hb Jun, 2008.

2.2. Berikutan kenyataan akhbar saya pada 5hb Jun, 2008 maka pada 7hb Jun, 2008, YB Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi telah menambah kata bahawa:

(a) tiada pihak yang mendesak supaya saya berhenti,

(b) kuasa melantik dan menamatkan khidmat saya ada pada Ketua Perlembagaan UIA iaitu DYMM Tuanku Sultan Pahang.

2.3. Berita Harian 7hb June2008 mewartakan YB Menteri menyatakan bahawa kenyataan akhbar saya pada 5hb Jun, 2008 hanyalah satu usaha saya untuk mencari perhatian dan publisiti.

3. Kuasa Perdana Menteri

Yang sebenarnya kenyataan media YB Menteri bertarikh 7hb June 2008 ini tidak lengkap, sebagaimana yang tertera di dalam Perlembagaan UIA, yang mana Ketua Perlembagaan UIA hanya boleh memberhentikan saya atas nasihat YAB Perdana Menteri.

4. Pemecatan

4.1. Pada 9hb Jun, 2008, saya menerima satu sampul surat yang berisi surat pemberhentian atau penamatan perkhidmatan saya daripada jawatan Presiden UIA, yang ditandatangani oleh Ketua Perlembagaan UIA iaitu DYMM Tuanku Sultan Pahang mengikut Bahagian IV Perkara 20 (iii) Perlembagaan UIA.

4.2. Memandang kepada hubungan yang cukup baik antara saya dengan Ketua Perlembagaan UIA sudah tentu tindakan ini tidak dibuat atas kehendak DYMM Tuanku sendiri.

4.3. Tempoh perkhidnatan saya masih ada dua tahun lagi, tiada kesalahan yang dinyatakan, berarti penamatan tempo khidmat saya daripada jawatan Presiden UIA, dengan serta-merta ini, adalah satu pemecatan disebabkan desakan beberapa pihak-pihak yang berkepentingan.
Ini menunjukan agenda tersembunyi Pak Lah yang Bencikan orang UMNO yang meletak jawatan seperti Tun Mahathir..sama2la..kita berdoa Pak Lah cpat letak jawatan..

Well now Tun has abandoned the new umno he build well i can see for the forsaking future more casualties..I can suggest it like a bus full of passengers consisting UMNO members like Puteri UMNO,Putera UMNO,, Pemuda and Wanita alike where Tun Mahathir resignation has send shockwaves to this normally stable Bus( A new one in fact!) where the
driver is Pak Lah and he is under tremendous pressure...I don't want to be him would i?

This resignation in the hightest order of saving his beloved special designed Bus where initiated to Pak Lah's leadership isn't something he just think awkardly and use some childish play nononono game,as he uses his vast experience to overcome this new problem in the wake of BN's defeat in the election.Ku Li whom he challenged to get the president seat and won by a slim majority has repeatly said Mahathir is someone to be aware of as He "Ku Li" has experienced Tun's tactic Like Sun Tze's Art Of War sinonim with China's Rose to Superpower and the fact he Ku Li was kicked out of UMNO after the defeat and the illegal accusation of UMNO lama must have take KU LI by some degree until now he has never regained power outside his backyard, The Gua Musang province..and He is accused of Never helping the state UMNO Kelantan community in the recent election campaign in what was supposed to be "Victorious" turned to be UMNO Kelantan's graveyard(well my site's tag here i borrowed up a bit) and this make sure of KELANTAN's immunity to UMNO influence..execpt to some area's expecially Ku Li's backyard.which is unprenable by National UMNO and Pas Alike.. NOW Ku Li want to shock the driver of Pak Lah which is unstable and challenge him in the upcoming party president's election.with Mukhriz Mahathir critizing him from the back..I sometimes think when those this president and our PM will take action's against his foes.but then that will expose him to vulnerabilities which his known and "unknown" enemies can attack him so his allies in the party will take action on behalf of him..This statement can't be assured yet as no action is taken and all we heard is talk and talk like kedai kopi one's in my office...

BN as a whole is resulting from this shaken "BUS" by their own casualties like gerakan and mca's lost to keadilan and dap.MIC and PPP on the hindraf issue backfiring on them.and,BN's sabah alliance demanding more seats and power and a potential rebel hunting site for Barisan Rakyat to become the federal government of Malaysia and Anwar,leading it to glory i think....KO for Barisan Nasional 1-0 OK to Barisan Rakyat.Like a boxing tournament.

Well we can see a very interesting poltical senario here developing in Malaysia toppling even those of US elections full of francas.I hope to live to see it... I am still a student so i can be alive to tell this to my grandchildren Insya-Allah.Allah forbid me to take new things

ahli UMNO pasti tidak akan berpuas hati apatah lagi Ezam ditawarkan
jawatan SENATOR oleh Pak Lah kita dan konco2nya..
perpecahan UMNO akan semakin ketara dan menunggu detik hancur dan diharamkan semula seperti bom detik pemusnah kehancuran orang melayu..
saya pun taknak komen banyak sebab tak dapat memastikan kesahihan laporan ini...
Jika berlaku maka benarla kata2 azimat Tun kita akan kehancuran UMNO yang hanya tinggal rangka sahajer.

Tindakan Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad keluar parti mungkin dialu-alukan oleh sebahagian orang UMNO yang bergantung hayat dengan Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. Dari bekas Ketua Pengarah BTN sehinggalah kepada macai-macai yang menjerit We Love Pak Lah biar pun UMNO sudah kehilangan majoriti mudah dan Barisan Nasional kehilangan majoriti 2/3.

Mereka berpendapat bahawa dengan Tun berada di luar UMNO,dapatlah mereka menyerang Tun sehabis-habisnya. Ingin menelanjang Tun kononnya. Kita tahu inilah kotak pemikiran beberapa Menteri dan Pengerusi Perhubungan Negeri termasuk dari sebuah negeri yang sudah berpenggal-penggal UMNO kalah.

Kita faham ada beberapa ahli Majlis Tertinggi yang tidak bersetuju dengan gelagat mereka ini tetapi tidak mampu berbuat apa-apa. Bercakap meminta diadakan rundingan dan perbincangan dengan Tun tetapi tidak disiarkan oleh media arus perdana.

Suara-suara sederhana dalam UMNO telah dimatikan secara senyap. Sebaliknya yang ditonjolkan (highlight) ialah suara-suara ekstrem sama ada di pihak Pak Lah mahu pun Che Det. Sekurang-kurangnya ada lima kenyataan ahli MKT UMNO yang menyarankan agar di cari jalan penyelesaian dalam kemelut ini tetapi tidak disiarkan atau dikecilkan.

Apa agenda media-media di bawah Media Prima dan Bernama? Malahan sudah tampak wujud tekanan terhadap Utusan Malaysia yang kelihatan sedikit berhemah dalam isu ini. Ada pihak tertentu yang mahu melihat UMNO terus berantakkan.

Jika kita masih ingat, selain isu jambatan bengkok, saluran dan wacana media di bawah Media Prima inilah yang sering melagakan Pak Lah dan Che Det. Saya fikir tidak perlulah diulangi lagi tindakan-tindakan Kalimullah Hasan Mesrul dan Datuk kamarulzaman dengan bantuan Tingkat 4 jabatan Perdana Menteri.

Tampaknya hari ini UMNO bukan lagi ditadbir oleh Pak Lah secara langsung tetapi oleh Kalimullah dan rakan-rakan yang merencana dan mengganggu gugat UMNO menggunakan budak hingusan politik seperti Khairy Jamaluddin.

Mungkin sudah tiba masanya Jawatankuasa Pengurusan Parti membuat satu usul jelas yang di bawa ke Biro Politik dan Majlis Tertinggi UMNO supaya perubahan Media-media yang berada di bawah naungan UMNO secara tidak langsung dilakukan perubahan besar-besaran. Mereka yang menguasai media ini harus di kalangan orang Melayu yang mempunyai agenda Melayu bukannya agenda Kalimullah.

Saya fikir, kita juga harus menyedari bahawa dalam politik, kuasa lebih penting dari emosi. Adalah penting untuk ahli UMNO terus bersabar sehingga Perhimpunan Agung UMNO akan datang. Gunakan mesyuarat cawangan dan bahagian untuk melakukan perubahan. Perubahan hanya boleh dilakukan di dalam UMNO.

Insyallah dengan force dari luar oleh Tun Mahathir, kita di dalam akan lebih kuat dan mampu melakukan perubahan. Kita mahukan perubahan cara Melayu,

Hari ini, Mei 19, 2008 saya mengumumkan keputusan saya untuk keluar daripada UMNO. Isteri saya turut bersama.Keputusan ini dibuat kerana UMNO yang ada sekarang bukan lagi UMNO yang ditubuh 62 tahun dahulu yang berjuang untuk bangsa Melayu, Agama Islam dan Negara Malaysia (Malaya); UMNO yang menggagalkan Malayan Union, memperjuangkan kemerdekaan Malaya dan Malaysia dan membangunkan Malaysia sehingga menjadi Negara yang termaju di antara Negara membangun di dunia.
UMNO yang ada sekarang hanya wujud untuk menyokong Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, keluarganya dan tindakan serta dasar yang tidak secocok dengan kepentingan bangsa, agama dan negara.Kepimpinan Dato Seri Abdullah jelas membawa kekalahan dan bencana kepada Barisan Nasional, UMNO, MCA, MIC, Gerakan dan PPP. Veteran party man Tan Sri Sanusi Junid and
Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced Monday that they are quitting Umno.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad citing a lack of confidence in the current leadership,announced this on Monday at 12.35pm,

"I am quitting Umno today," he told about 1,000 people, mostly Kedah Umno members, at a talk here on Monday.

"I will write a letter to Umno headquarters to inform that I have quit the party," he said.

He has been critical of his appointed successor Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, blaming the current Umno president for the party's disappointing performance in the 12th general election.

The ruling Barisan Nasional coalition, of which Umno is the largest component party, won the March 8 election with a simple majority, and saw four more states join Kelantan under Opposition rule.

Dr Mahathir urged other party members to quit too, as a way of pressuring Abdullah into vacating his post.

However, he advised those who do quit not to join any opposition party, adding they can all rejoin the party once there is a change in leadership.

Abdullah has so far refused all calls for him to step down, and said he would defend his presidency in the party polls in December.

Sanusi, who is a former Kedah Mentri Besar, also quit the party on Monday.

PM Abdullah: Shocked
Meanwhile, Abdullah said he was shocked by the decision and, despite their differences, had not expected him to leave.

However, the beleaguered premier said he would stay on and fight for the party.

“Perhaps some other members might leave too, but this won’t entirely affect the party. It all depends on whether the rest want to stay on and continue to fight for the party too,” he said.

Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak expressed his shock and sadness too.

Najib, who read a prepared statement to Malaysian reporters at Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt, said he was prepared to meet Dr Mahathir to discuss his decision.

"I will also discuss with Datuk Seri Abdullah, whom I had contacted just now, on efforts to strengthen Umno and also the issue of leadership transition in the party.

"I hope all Umno members will stay calm and give support to our efforts to strengthen the party," he added.

In KLANG: Former Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo said Dr Mahathir’s decision will affect public perception of Umno’s strength and possibly discourage youngsters from joining the party.

Many of those aged below 40 years grew up during Dr Mahathir’s premiership and hold him in high regard.

“Dr Mahathir’s resignation will have a huge impact on the trust that this group of people, including the Malays, have in Umno and its capability to lead the country,” he said.

He said youngsters wanting to join the party now might also shy away as questions would be raised on Umno’s ability to be effective as a party.

“These youngsters might not join other parties but they will stay away until Umno can mend the current situation and avoid splits in the party,” he said.

In PUTRAJAYA, Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said it was a bad time for Dr Mahathir to quit Umno as the party was going through a difficult period.

He said the resignation would not help in efforts to rebuild Umno.

"He is doing more damage than good; whatever it is, the party is still looking for a new direction and we need everyone to remain united and not split," he said.

Syed Hamid expressed fear for the future of Umno because Dr Mahathir had a great influence and a person of his stature could rattle and destroy the party.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said Dr Mahathir's hatred for Abdullah was seemingly stronger than his love for Umno.

He said the former premier should realise that asking others to follow his footsteps would only make it easier for Pakatan Rakyat to take over the Federal Government.

"What he is saying is that if you love Umno, leave Umno -- it does not make sense," he said.

Shahrir also said that Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir should be the first to take up his father's suggestion to quit.

Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib said he was surprised at the decision, but added that it was Dr Mahathir's right to do so.

"Every member has the right to join or leave the party," he said.

Asked if Umno would convene an emergency meeting, the former Umno vice-president and Selangor Mentri Besar said that "we will wait and see."

The next Umno Supreme Council meeting is scheduled to be held within two to three weeks.

Urged to reconsider
In IPOH, MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan called on Dr Mahathir to reconsider his decision.

Speaking at a press conference after a Wesak Day celebration at the Malaysian Buddhist Associatino (Perak branch) hall here, Ong said he was saddened by Dr Mahathir's sudden announcement.

Barisan Nasional was currently facing a huge challenge and his decision would not benefit Umno and the coalition, said Ong, who is also Housing and Local Government Minister.

As a former Prime Minister, his words carried weight and would affect all levels of the people including party leaders, he said.

“We do not hope for any more problems and neither should we create more,” he said. “Our country needs stability and not uncertainty. His decision would paint a bad impression for the rakyat (citizenry) and foreign investors,” he added.

Lumut Umno division chief Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir also urged Dr Mahathir to reconsider his decision.

“I feel very sad with Tun's decision to leave the party. It should not have happened in the first place,” he said.

Dr Zambry, who is also Pangkor assemblyman, said Dr Mahathir was a great leader who provided a sense of direction and ideas for the party and country.

The problem involved a former president and the present one, he said, adding that it so happened that the predecessor had appointed the current one.

“So it is a complex issue,” he said, adding that the current leadership must immediately find ways to overcome the problems in the party.

Dr Zambry pointed out that it was not unprecedented for former party presidents to quit Umno, adding that Dr Mahathir was the party's fourth president to leave the party.

The other three were the late Datuk Onn Jaafar, Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Hussein Onn, he added.

In PETALING JAYA, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said Dr Mahathir's decision would not solve the problems faced by the party and would instead give more strength to the Opposition.

"At this time when the party is under stress, all parties including leaders and former leaders must work together to heal Umno so it becomes firm and strong," she said.

In MALACCA, Umno veteran and stalwart Tan Sri Aziz Tapa, 85, said that he was shocked at the news and was at a loss for words.

“How can it be when he (Mahathir) says that he loves Umno? I met him only few days ago in Johor and everything seemed okay. What he is doing is not right,” he said when contacted here on Monday.

Umno supreme council member Tan Sri Rahim Thamby Chik described the move as an "interesting but tragic development" for Umno.

"It's shocking news to me. If true, then I would say that it is an interesting yet tragic development for the party,” he said.

Reacting to Dr Mahathir's resignation, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said, “This will weaken the party at a time when it is facing its enemies.”

Dr Mahathir joined Umno at its inception in 1946.

He became a Member of Parliament in 1964 when he won the Kota Setar Selatan seat.

He lost the seat in the following general election in 1969.

Following the May 13, 1969, riots Dr Mahathir was sacked from the Umno Supreme Council on July 12 because of the widespread distribution of his letter to first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman criticising Tunku’s manner of handling the country’s administration.

Dr Mahathir rejoined Umno on March 7, 1972 and was appointed Senator in 1973. He relinquished the senatorship post a year later to contest the Kubang Pasu seat in the general elections. He was returned unopposed and was appointed Minister of Education.

In 1975, Dr Mahathir became one of the three vice-presidents of Umno.

Tun Hussein Onn appointed Dr Mahathir Deputy Prime Minister on Sept 15, 1978.

Dr Mahathir was Prime Minister of Malaysia from July 16, 1981, until Oct 31, 2003.

Anwar as we know doesn't learn in critical subjeks when in universiti days..
yaah no phsyics,chemistry,doctor the so called critical professions for our developing nation..ant this is argued by someone as not good enough?but he over the years in ABIM or goverment or student organisation gained vast knowledge and intelligence about the nation and it's nature of politics that makes him what he is today.
I want to defend anwar as people has been critizing him because of his qualification and his status as ex-ISA detainee..The critics like Khairy Jamaluddin don't even know a thing asa they are still young and don't posseses vast experience in today politics..Talk about him being Abdullah's kronee and just his Special treatment cause BN to loose greatly in the election and Pak Lah's reputation been affected as a whole..

well plenty of malays to coup up and mingle with even though i am a malay..
well now some foreigners like Russians and Myanmars come and study here even though they social in their group of english-only gengs?...
eerm..nevertheless i like to speak with them.but my fellow colleges of Malays,.they darn know a word about english.just copy paste lab reports and assignments is their daily rutin..I try to do it myself first..geeks..
anyway UIA is a good place to study but pretty little people other than Malays..

Selepas insiden BN dalam lapan negeri selepas Pilihanraya Umum XII 8 Mac 2008, kini PM Pak Lah berhadapan dengan krisis baru, yang mengundang lembaran baru antara hubungan politik dengan istana. dua negeri melayu mengalami masalah raja2 melayu iaitu perlis dan terengganu

Mula mula ialah Perlis. Pengerusi Perhubungan UMNO Perlis Dato’ Seri Shahidan Kassim yang berjaya mendapat 14 dari 15 DUN yang dipertandingkan, gagal dilantik sebagai MB.

Kemudian Terengganu. Selepas dua minggu PRU 12, MB Terengganu masih lagi belum dilantik dan mengangkat sumpah. Ini kerana pihak istana dikatakan tidak member perkenan kepada Pengerusi Perhubungan UMNO/BN Terengganu Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh untuk menjadi MB.

Majlis Penasihat Pemangku Raja (MPPR) hari ini mengeluarkan kenyataan yang menamakan Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Kijal, Datuk Ahmad Said, 51, sebagai Menteri Besar Terengganu yang baru.

Pelantikan tersebut mengetepikan Pengerusi Badan Perhubungan UMNO negeri, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh yang mendapat watikah pelantikan sebagai Menteri Besar bagi penggal kedua daripada Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi berikutan kemenangan besar pada Pilihan Raya Umum Ke-12, 8 Mac lalu.

Ekoran kenyataan dari Pejabat Sultan Terengganu itu, 23 ADUN Barisan Nasional (BN) menolak pelantikan itu dan berikrar berdiri teguh di belakang kepimpinan Idris.

Mereka juga bertegas tidak akan menghadiri upacara angkat sumpah yang dijadual berlangsung di Istana Tetamu, di sini pukul 8 pagi esok.

Kedudukan pelantikan Menteri Besar Terengganu berbeza dengan pergolakan jawatan yang sama di Perlis kerana Idris mendapat sokongan penuh ADUN BN.

Di Perlis, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim hanya disokong oleh lima ADUN manakala sembilan lagi ADUN menyokong Datuk Dr. Md. Isa Sabu pada waktu pergolakan itu. Ini membolehkan Md. Isa dilantik sebagai Menteri Besar.

Kesemua 23 ADUN diketuai ADUN Ajil, Datuk Rosol Wahid pada sidang akhbarnya petang ini, menyatakan sokongan kepada Idris dan tidak akan hadir pada upacara angkat sumpah jika calonnya bukan Pengerusi Badan Perhubungan UMNO negeri itu.

Rosol yang juga Setiausaha UMNO negeri memberitahu, 23 ADUN BN akan turut membuat undi tidak percaya kepada Menteri Besar Terengganu yang baru sebagai menunjukkan sokongan mereka terhadap Idris.

‘‘Mana-mana calon selain Idris, kami tidak akan terima. Malah ada di kalangan kami yang sanggup meletak jawatan jika beliau tidak dipilih.

‘‘Oleh itu, bersedialah untuk menghadapi kemungkinan pilihan raya sekali lagi,” tegasnya pada sidang akhbar di kediaman rasmi Menteri Besar, Seri Iman di sini hari ini.

Pengumuman mengenai pemilihan Ahmad dihebahkan melalui kenyataan akhbar yang dihantar menerusi faksimile oleh Pengelola Istana Sultan Terengganu, Mohd. Yasim Awang pada pukul 5.36 petang ini.

Kenyataan akhbar itu memberitahu, MPPR dalam melaksanakan fungsi bagi pihak Pemangku Raja memilih untuk melantik Ahmad sebagai Menteri Besar yang baru untuk mengetuai Majlis Mesyuarat Kerajaan Negeri Terengganu.

Pelantikan tersebut dibuat mengikut Fasal 14 Perenggan (2) (a) Undang-Undang Bagi Diri Kerajaan Terengganu (Bab 2) dan upacara mengangkat sumpah akan diadakan di Kuala Terengganu esok.

Pelantikan Menteri Besar Terengganu menjadi isu apabila upacara mengangkat sumpah jawatan masih tidak diadakan sejak berakhirnya Pilihan Raya Umum Ke-12 pada 8 Mac lalu.

Majlis tersebut yang sebelum ini dijadualkan berlangsung di Istana Maziah pada 10 Mac lalu ditangguhkan pada saat-saat akhir menjadikan Terengganu yang kekal di bawah Barisan Nasional (BN) merupakan satu-satunya negeri yang belum mempunyai Menteri Besar walaupun selepas dua minggu pilihan raya berakhir.

Dalam pada itu, Rosol berkata, tindakan tidak menghadiri upacara mengangkat sumpah jawatan esok bukan perbuatan menderhaka kepada raja, sebaliknya dilakukan atas alasan untuk mengelakkan perpecahan dalam parti.

Ditanya sama ada tindakan itu hanya untuk kepentingan satu pihak, beliau berkata, ia sebaliknya dilakukan atas kepentingan rakyat yang memilih mereka sebagai wakil.

Rosol berkata, mereka akan menghantar surat sokongan kepada Idris yang ditandatangani oleh 22 ADUN BN kepada MPPR dan Abdullah pagi esok meminta Perdana Menteri mencari penyelesaian masalah itu.

Dalam pada itu, Peguam Negara, Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail dalam kenyataannya sebelum ini menjelaskan urusan pelantikan Menteri Besar Terengganu terletak sepenuhnya pada Pemangku Raja dan MPPR negeri itu.

Katanya, Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin sedar tentang peruntukan tersebut yang baginda tidak boleh mencampuri urusan pelantikan Menteri Besar di negeri berkenaan.

Menurut Abdul Gani, berdasarkan kepada Perkara 34 (1) Perlembagaan Persekutuan, Seri Paduka tidak boleh menjalankan fungsi sebagai Raja Negeri Terengganu melainkan sebagai Ketua Agama Islam.

‘‘Sehubungan itu, Yang di-Pertuan Agong tidak mempunyai calon sendiri bagi mengisi jawatan Menteri Besar. Baginda menyedari hakikat bahawa urusan pelantikan Menteri Besar terletak sepenuhnya pada Pemangku Raja dan Majlis Penasihat Pemangku Raja.

‘‘Justeru, baginda tidak mempunyai apa-apa peranan di bawah undang-undang dalam pelantikan tersebut,’’ kata Abdul Gani.

22 ADUN UMNO Terengganu telah membantah calon MB Terengganu yang diperkenan pihak istana, iaitu ADUN Kijal Dato’ Ahmad Said dan mereka secara kolektif telah menghantar dua pucuk surat kepada Pemangku Sultan Terengganu.

Episod ini membuka lembaran baru kepada hubungan politik-istana, walaupun Perlembagaan Persekutuan mengariskan jelas bahawa pihak yang mendapat sokongan majoriti sebarang DUN atau Dewan Rakyat berhak dilantik sebagai MB atau Perdana Menteri.

Ini jelas membuktikan bahawa bukan sahaja rakyat sudah ‘tidak yakin’ kepada Kepimpinan, pihak istana juga sudah tidak yakin.

SEPANG, 23 Mac (Bernama) — Pelantikan Anggota Dewan Undangan Negeri (Adun) kawasan Kijal, Datuk Ahmad Said sebagai Menteri Besar Terengganu dilihat sebagai tidak mengikut Perlembagaan, kata Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

“Semua Adun yang bilangannya agak besar itu tetap menyokong Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh. Itu satu perkara yang tidak ada perubahan daripada segi sokongan.

“Dengan itu, maka sebarang lantikan yang dibuat terhadap orang lain itu, tidak kena dengan Perlembagaan,” kata Abdullah ketika diminta mengulas mengenai tindakan 22 Adun daripada Barisan Nasional (BN) Terengganu yang membantah pelantikan Ahmad, Ahad.

Terdahulu, Abdullah menyaksikan edisi ke-10 perlumbaan Grand Prix Malaysia di Litar Sepang. Beliau turut menyampaikan piala kejuaraan kepada pelumba Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, Kimi Raikkonen.

Ahmad, 51, menerima watikah perisytiharan pelantikan sebagai Menteri Besar Terengganu yang baru daripada Majlis Penasihat Pemangku Raja (MPPR) yang disampaikan oleh Yang Dipertuanya, Tengku Sri Panglima Raja Tengku Baderulzaman dalam satu upacara tertutup di Istana Tetamu di Kuala Terengganu, Ahad pagi.

Majlis angkat sumpah jawatan Menteri Besar itu bagaimanapun masih belum ditetapkan lagi.

Peguam Negara Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail apabila diminta untuk membuat ulasan mengenai krisis perlantikan MB Terengganu, menegaskan bahawa pihak istana Terengganu, iaitu Pemangku Sultan Terengganu dan Majlis Penasihat Pemangku Raja Terengganu perlu akur kepada peruntukan Perlembangaan Persekutuan dan Undang Undang Tubuh Negeri Terengganu, yang jelas termaktub bahawa perlantikan seseorang MB perlu mendapat sokongan majoriti ADUN negeri itu.

Dalam kes perlantikan ADUN Kijal Dato’ Ahmad Said sebagai MB Terengganu, beliau jelas tidak mendapat sokongan 23 ADUN dan sebaliknya, ADUN UMNO/BN ini memberikan sokongan kepada Mantan MB Terengganu Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, yang juga Pengerusi Perhubungan UMNO/BN Terengganu. Dalam perkembangan yang sama, Timbalan Presiden UMNO Dato’ Seri Mohd. Najib Tun Razak mengumumkan bahawa majlis Tertinggi UMNO akan bermesyuarat Khamis ini untuk membincangkan permasalahan krisis ini dan tindakan akan diambil.

Dalam kes perlantikan Dato’ Dr. Md. Isa Sabu sebagai MB Perlis minggu lepas, beliau telah mendapat sokongan 9 ADUN dari kesemua 15 ADUN Perlis. Ini dipastikan sendiri secara peribadi oleh Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalulail, Raja Perlis, yang bertemu kesemua 9 ADUN itu di Istana Siraj, Kuala Lumpur walaupun Pengerusi Perhubungan UMNO/BN Perlis Dato’ Seri Shahidan Kassim mendapat watikah perlantikan parti dari Kepimpinan UMNO/BN.

Jelas krisis perlantikan MB Terengganu ini bertambah rumit dan menunjukan jelas bahawa Kepimpinan PM ‘Flip-Flop’ yang disifatkan ‘lemah’ ini tidak mendapat ‘keyakinan’ dan ‘kepercayaan’ istana (ditafsirkan jelas dengan keengganan istana ‘menerima dan mengiktiraf’ calon MB Terengganu yang dipilih parti yang mendapat majoriti DUN), selain dari mesej jelas rakyat yang ditafsirkan dengan kekalahan BN di 5 + 1 negeri dan prestasi menurun di seluruh Malaysia.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the appointment of anyone except Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh as Terengganu Mentri Besar is unconstitutional.Most of the state BN assemblymen support Idris Jusoh and remains unchanged over their stand despite the appointment of Datuk Ahmad Said as the Menteri Besar by the palace authorities he told reporters after attending the 10th Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix yesterday. "Therefore, appointing anyone else is not right constitutionally" he quoted as saying.

Abdullah was commenting on the Mentri Besar saga in which Kijal assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Said received his letter of appointment as the new Mentri Besar from Regency Advisory Council (MPPR) chief Tengku Sri Panglima Raja Tengku Baderulzaman at a closed-door ceremony at Istana Tetamu in Kuala Terengganu at 8.20am yesterday.

Idris was of all smiles as he came out of a meeting with Abdullah last night with 21 assemblymen exclude datuk Ahmad said.It is very good news, very positive. What is good for the people is very good for me,” he told reporters outside the Prime Minister’s official residence, Seri Perdana.

He said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would make a statement on the matter.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, met outside Seri Perdana, said Abdullah and Najib had given their support for Idris to be the Mentri Besar.

He said it was the decision of the party that won the majority in the state assembly to select the Mentri Besar and the Ruler had to abide by it according to the Constitution.

“The palace has to accept Barisan Nasional's decision as it is in accordance with our constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democratic system,” he said.

He said Ahmad attended the state liaison committee meeting at Seri Perdana but left soon after.
