As a dance instructor, fitness instructor, & image consultant, I am around people all the time, many of them children. Although I love hugs and affection, I don't like germs! Many of them are passed onto me daily through handshakes, hugs, doorknobs, cell phones, ballet barres, weights, mats, you name it. To keep bacteria at bay in schools & other public places, there are a few simple good habits you need to form:

1- Wash hands (how to do it the RIGHT way) thoroughly after classes, gym use and practices/games, especially before eating & touching any part of your face.

2- Refrain from touching your eyes, ears, nose, mouth or face when in a public place, especially after taking public transportation, touching railings or door knobs, gym equipment, etc.

3- Carry hand sanitizer for emergency situations only. If you're at a packed baseball game seated where millions of people sit every season, brimming with bacteria and you're about to sink your teeth into a hotdog, and the bathroom line is around the stadium, THINK....& sanitize your hands. Hand sanitizers are great when you don't have access to soap and water. Keep in mind, antibacterial hand sanitizers are different than plain alcohol based ones. The antibacterial properties can also kill good bacteria, and thus be less effective. Opt for products that contain just isopropyl or ethanol alcohol.

4- Do not share towels, clothes, razors, manicure tools (bring your own to the salon ladies!!) or any personal- care items with others....not even makeup! Also be weary of any rusting on personal care items such as razors, scissors or tweezers, and use disposables whenever possible.

These good habits can make a huge difference in your health. Lastly, if you're like me and think you're Super-Woman who can do 101 things and never get tired or sick... think again. LOL. Rest is one of the best ways to restore your energy and keep your immune system healthy.
More on Bacteria Protection

Testing 1 2 3: A Live Broadcasting Review

After many a "testing 1 2 3" I have some opinions on the different live broadcasting options available for all you web show producers & hosts. Even if you only use it to socialize, there's a difference in the options available to you. I'm not going to give you an in-depth "techie" viewpoint, but rather from the standpoint of an average Jane.

The Long....
I started out with Ustream.tv as a fluke...check this blogpost out for more, lol. This was the most well- known broadcasting site over a year ago, so that's what I used for my first show episodes of Graziella TV and then Pageant Chat TV. I liked the video quality, but not many features to work with other than broadcast and record. To my dismay, ustream changed their whole system, and it began crashing on me every single time I broadcast. In addition, it started displaying my private videos as public, and numerous features just didn't work well or not at all (such as the download your video option & playlist order). When you have a guest co-host on your show, or display a youtube video, none of this is viewable in your recorded archive. That's a major downside for me because I want my viewers to be able to see the show in its entirety after it is live, not to mention it not making any sense if I am talking to the air (to the space where the live co-host was). Currently ustream's features are pretty much the same other than the addition of a Twitter stream on your page, the ability to create highlight clips, and general layout design. Oh yeah, and Ashton Kutcher is on ustream.

I then switched to Stickam.com, which is what I am currently using. Interesting set-up, and I got a lot of viewers even without broadcasting on Twitter or Facebook. The downside to stickam is that the general viewership age is very young (or super immature/perverted), so if you're in high school and want to socialize with peers, this is the site for you. :) On the

other hand, if you're trying to produce a quality, professional show with a more mature viewership (aka above the age of 19) this is not your best option. Somehow I had a delinquent appear on my show, even while my guest video stream settings were set to off. The user interface is a little awkward, as you have to change your settings every time you go live, and the chatrooms are entirely moderated by you or those you set as moderators. I usually don't have moderators other than myself, so it's difficult to simultaneously run and host a streamlined show while having to ban some jerk in the chatroom who is asking you to take your shirt off. You can disable the chat which is what I have done for the meantime until I figure something else out. I like the vast viewership of stickam, their archived videos are easy to access & play, and they rarely crash a browser. However, their recorded quality is ok compared to others and co-hosts cannot be recorded on this either. I remain with stickam for

now because of technical reliability & viewership numbers.

BlogTV.com- I haven't broadcasted on this personally, but my non- bff has, and I get so angry while watching her show. Not because I don't love her (clearly she is my non- bff) but because like Stickam viewers, BlogTV users are there more for socializing and not as much to watch a legit "show." If you have a basic account, your show is interrupted every now and then with a commercial- definitely a huge downside if you have a structured show with topics, guests, etc.. If you have a pro account (for about $25 a year), that takes the commercials away. With BlogTV, co-hosts can be seen and heard in archives, which is pretty cool...and makes all the sense!

Justin.tv I tried for a bit, but wasn't all that impressed with features, quality or variety of professional content- more details about this site in the chart below.

Livestream.com They are great...but, oh...if they only removed their advertisements I would totally move to Livestream in a heartbeat! Um yeah, only if you pay $350 a month can you get the ads removed. Otherwise with their free account you do get this amazing production studio where you can create a super professional show with overlays, transitions, logos, add youtube videos, switch to another live location, even clickable links- and all of this can be recorded and viewed in the archived episodes. Their viewership and content is also very professional- very few hooligans here!
So, until I get a sponsor to foot the $350 a month bill for me, I will be sticking to a non- commercial/ad interruption service like stickam...or perhaps ustream again (oooh, dare I?!) This time, I will be using camtwist...a program that can do most of what Livestream does in it's studio, right on my mac...and it's free. :)
And the Short....
A quick chart reference

Fit Foodie Summer Menu

Most of you know that I am a "foodie," it's no secret. I must tweet about food at least once a day, and if I don't I'm cooking, eating, creating recipes or looking up a new cuisine I haven't tried yet. Cooking for me is a therapeutic outlet of expression, and I can totally lose myself when preparing food. The only other thing that has that effect on me is dancing/performing. I'd like to share with you a typical summer menu that has both delighted my taste buds and kept me healthy & fit. Enjoy!

Breakfast:
Breakfast Burrito made with whole wheat tortillas, 1 organic egg, 1 chicken or turkey sausage, 1 tomato or tablespoon of salsa, fresh cilantro, cayenne pepper, and a small sprinkling of cheddar cheese.

~or~

Greek Yogurt & Berries- I use 6 oz. of either 0% fat or 2% fat Greek yogurt & mix in 1 tablespoon of honey, and a large handful of whatever berries are available. My favorites are strawberries & raspberries. Sometimes I add homemade toasted oats & raw walnuts for a bit of crunch too.

~or~

European Breakfast- 4 100% Whole Wheat ak-mak crackers topped with Brie or goat cheese, chopped chives in a dash of olive oil, salt & pepper. A piece of fruit that I'm not allergic to (usually strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, grapefruit, mango, and on occasion apple or orange)

And two cups of organic coffee prepared with 1/2 teaspoon organic raw sugar, a dash of Stevia, and organic 1% milk. Gotta have my coffee, and have it right!

Lunch:

Summer Pesto Spaghetti - I use organic whole wheat spaghetti from Trader Joe's. Pesto is a light summery version (no nuts) made with fresh basil, a few mint leaves, lots of garlic, extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper and grated Pecorino Romano cheese all in a blender. I saute a few Roma tomatoes in olive oil, garlic & onions, salt & pepper for just a few minutes, and top the pasta with it.

~or~

Italian Tuna Salad- my version of what I discovered in Italy when studying there for a summer. I use 1 can of chunk light Tongol tuna, 1 can of chick peas, 1 can of black olives sliced in half, 1 chopped Roma tomato, 1 chopped small onion, a large handful of fresh mixed herbs (I use basil, mint & flat leaf parsley), seasoned with olive oil, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper & juice of 1 lemon.

~or~

Mexican Obsession- black beans made with saute`d onions & garlic in EVOO, cilantro, cumin, coriander, black pepper & a red chili pepper. Served with a side of steamed brown rice, mixed greens w/ cilantro drizzled w/ EVOO & salsa, and a side of guacamole.

Dinner:

Graziella's BBQ Chicken Dinner- corn on the cob, salad, guacamole & flaxseed soy chips. I get organic chicken thighs & sprinkle on my mixture of spices (brown sugar, cayenne pepper, onion & garlic powders, paprika & cumin) then grill outside on my BBQ along with the corn (most of the husks on). I serve this with a green salad with cucumbers, onions & tomatoes and a side of guacamole or Greek yogurt (flavored w/ chives & spices) and my fave flaxseed soy chips from Trader Joe's.

~or~

The Classic Better Burger- I use organic (when I find it), but always non- growth hormone/antibiotic treated ground beef made into thin round patties. I grill these to medium or medium/well & top with saute`d onions & organic cheddar cheese, served on whole wheat buns. Side is a mixed green salad & green beans with homemade French dressing (organic ketchup & Vegenaise mayo & apple cider vinegar).

~or~

Asian Chicken & Broccoli Stir- Fry- Fresh ginger, garlic & onions are saute`d in EVOO with fresh broccoli, then drizzled with sesame oil, cooking sake, a hint of agave nectar & soy sauce to taste. Chicken breast is boiled in chicken stock separately & added at last minute of stir-frying. Served with a small side of sticky brown rice (made in rice cooker w/ a bit of rice wine vinegar).

Hope you try these, and don't hesitate to ask questions about the recipes. I'm no recipe writer, so that's why I called it a "menu"- HA! If I have enough requests, I will demonstrate a recipe on Graziella TV. That's all for now folks- enjoy!

A Better Blogger

So, I haven't blogged in this space in over a month... I know, I know, I am disappointed in me too. But when I make a mistake, I don't like to waste time on self pity and blame (other than the countless hours I mentally lecture myself on how I could be much further along in my career if I had more time, didn't have so many distractions & worked harder). So when that's over and done with, I get to fixing the problem gosh darn it! There's no point in having a blog if you don't update it regularly right? Well, I am asking you (my awesome subscribers & fans) to yell at me (PROBABLY BEST DONE IN ALL CAPS!) when I am not writing/publishing as I should be. Yell at me all you want. I deserve it. But aside from the scolding, I have come up with some ways that I (and all you other busy bloggers) can be A BETTER BLOGGER:

1) Set a Weekly (timely) Blog Deadline. That way, you are not confined to a particular date that you have to write on, but rather have a deadline (just the way real newspapers & magazines do) to stick to every single week to ensure you are consistently publishing content. For me, this includes putting the deadline in my PDA calender with a reminder alarm- it becomes permanent and "real" that way.

2) Use Resources More Wisely & Creatively. I think that each of us has an endless pool of resources that we can pull from if we only got more creative with them and think "outside the box" (heck, think through the box, be the box, and how about a circle?) whatever that means. Use Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Friendfeed, etc.. to promote your blog and encourage comments and conversations.

3) Make a list of topics and categories with brief outlines to encourage brainstorming IN ADVANCE. So that you are not stuck with blogger's block, you can create a list of topics & categories to start off your writing when you're short on time or simply run out of mental juice. When you have an outline to guide you, writing a post is much simpler and more fun too!

4) Write about your Expertise! I don't know about you, but being the curious person that I am, I like to know and DO everything...everything. Just look at my G-World and you'll see what I mean. I'm a psycho, I know. BUT, I have learned that in order to be great at something, you have to at least put your focus on say 10 things instead of 100. So, if I want to create a widget for my web tv shows, I READ a blog on it. So what do I WRITE about? Umm, my life. I know about that, so let's see.....that encompasses dancing, singing, acting, fitness, beauty, pageantry, wellness, natural/organic lifestyle, my quirkiness...and much much more folks! ;-P

5) Be Yourself. Cliche? Oui oui mes amis (that's French for yes, yes my friends)...but it's so true. This is why cliche's are around- because they bear some truths. So, fret not and let go of any preconceived notions you have about bloggers and blogs...and do YOURSELF some justice, and B.YOUneek! Ha! Just like my company ;-) (I'm not afraid or ashamed of a little self promotion here and there).

Oh, and just so you all know...my weekly blog deadline is Tuesday 10:00 PM.

Wow, that felt good. That's certainly a piece of me on paper (uhh, digital paper, webpage, html...you get the picture).

#140Conf

I was a "Character" at the 140 Characters Conference in NYC this week along with numerous other Tweeps from all over the world. Amongst a sea of laptops, we gathered at New World Stages in NYC for a two day conference discussing the "state of NOW" in social media and how it affects our world today.

Speakers included Wyclef Jean, Gary Vaynerchuk, Liz Strauss, Jim Jones and many other characters who talked about how Twitter plays a part in numerous industries and our society. Some discussed opinions on "how" to use Twitter effectively in business, marketing, and even personally. Not so sure I agree with the instructional part on how to use twitter- I think that is a personal choice. However, I think we can all agree that authenticity is a characteristic that is appreciated and applauded on Twitter along with honesty and passion.

The coolest part of the whole conference was connecting with my Tweeples! I got to meet some whom I've been virtual friends with for quite some time IRL (in real life). ;-)

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); It's May in 1 day, and most of us are planning to peel away the layers as the weather gets warmer...SO, that means, revealing more skin. However, most of us have been cooped up indoors and perhaps have a bit of "winter padding" we'd like to get rid of. As a classically trained, professional dancer and certified personal trainer, I have a number of methods that I use to stay fit that I'd like to share with you!

1) Incorporate weight lifting and/or resistance exercises into your workout routine 3- 4x a week. Having more muscle mass= burning more fat. Burning more fat= well...less fat! SO DO IT!

2) Do bootcamp- style workouts that include a mix cardio and strength. You will save time and get better results.

3) Super-set your weight lifting exercises (advanced training method), which means doing two exercises in a row, without resting in between sets.

4) Vary your workouts. By doing this you stay interested while constantly challenging your body.

5) Create long, lean lines by incorporating yoga and stretching into your regular workout routine.

6) Working out on an empty stomach is KEY! This means at least 2 hours after a meal.

7) Eat smaller, more frequent meals. This keeps your blood sugar at a steady rate, metabolism and energy up, burning optimal fat.

8) NO TRANS FATS or HYDROGENATED FATS! Incorporate good fats found in olive oil, flax seeds (or oil), walnuts, salmon and cod fish.

9) Read food labels (you'll be surprised at what you find!)

10) Water, water, water. 8 (12 oz) glasses daily or more depending on your body weight and if you consume caffeine (you may need more).

Got questions? Bring them to tonight's show at 9:30 PM Eastern http://www.graziellatv.com or email me.

Digital Expressions

Sometimes I express myself best through the spoken word, sometimes through written text, most of the time through dance, sometimes through cuisine, but mostly via artistic/creative forms of expression. I publicly asked "Apple" to sponsor me a computer. Someone up above was listening, that's for SURE. The following day, I got a call from my good friend/videographer/photographer, Angel Sanchez who asked me if I wanted a mac. It was cute the way he asked too..with a voice knowing how badly I could use a new computer for all the video editing, graphic design, web design/publishing, web work and multiple high- capacity projects I do on a daily basis. I responded with a curious "yes why" which was followed by him telling me the most unbelievable series of events. This mac came into his hands via a friend who was moving far away, and since Angel already has 3 macs, he found no need for a fourth...so he passed it to on ME!! :D

Oh, and this video was made on that mac :)

I did my own DO!

Ok so....what may be scary for me may not be scary for you. Lately I've been searching for new compression and conversion methods for my videos since I use a number of different cameras (my Flip, my Sony DV, my Logitec webcam, and my Cannon Powershot)...so, I've got lots of great devices, but need to always change my editing methods. Make a long story short...I got ANOTHER VIRUS! Grrrrr..I was not smiling after downloading some conversion software from Youtube, which I thought was a trusted site! Another lesson learned.

The upside to this story is that my Tweeples came to the rescue! Thank you to @JohnHays @Thenardier and @Street3 who heard my cries of help and responded immediately! I took all of their knowledge, processed, and went to work. Instead of calling Geek Squad this time, I called @JohnHays who might as well be called Geek Sheriff :) He walked me thorough a step by step process that removed the nasty little bug, and got my computer into better shape than it was before. I was impressed! John was innately intuitive to what was going on with my poor little PC and spotted the problems as I went along with his phone tutorial. I don't know why Geek Squad couldn't do the same, but I can say that John Hays ROCKS!! :)

I am thankful for all my Tweeples..they always brighten my day, offer support, and come to the rescue whenever needed! Here's to YOU My Tweeples!
<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; ALD is a neuro- degenerative disease that affects one in 20,000 children in the United States alone. It is a disorder characterized by progressive brain and central nervous system deterioration. This disease is "a parent's worst nightmare."

Massimo is in need of a bone- marrow transplant. Bone marrow transplantation is the only known treatment that can stop the progression of this disease. There are limited facilities that specialize in this rare disease. The Children's Hospital of Minnesota can help Massimo in this fight for his life. Therefore, Massi and his family will be relocating to Minnesota for an undetermined amount of time. They may incur financial hardships beyond their means that will add on to their emotional stress. Please help us alleviate some of the financial burden placed on this family. A non- profit organization, MASSIMO AGAINST ALD, INC., has been created to help this family and Massimo fight ALD. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. Donations may be sent to:
Massimo Against ALD, Inc.
C/O Termini Pizzeria
4107 Bergenline Avenue
Union City, NJ 07087
Contact-
Email: MassiagainstALD@aol.com
Shane Phillipy: 201-759-6590
Domenic Ranaudo: 201-638-8948

Please help Massimo win the fight of his life. Please read his story... In recent months Massimo Phillipy, son of Kyle and Josephine Phillipy of Termini Pizza in New Jersey, was unexpectedly diagnosed with a rare disease known as Adrenoleukodystrophy. ALD is a neuro- degenerative disease that affects one in 20,000 children in the United States alone. It is a disorder characterized by progressive brain and central nervous system deterioration. This disease is "a parent's worst nightmare." Massimo is in need of a bone- marrow transplant. Donations may be sent to: Massimo Against ALD, Inc.
Yes, this is part of what we performed at the audition for America's Best Dance Crew. Like I mentioned in the first post about ABDC, G-Volution is not a "crew"- we're a dance company with a very eclectic style that performs everything from musical theater, hip hop, jazz, tap, lyrical and Latin. For that reason, I didn't consider this audition until one of ABDC's casting producers from LA contacted me and asked me to bring G-V0lution in for an audition appointment. It sounded attractive especially since we didn't have to wait on that long line outside to be seen, and plus they contacted ME.....

Well, needless to say I don't think that G-Volution is what they were looking for. But, we did make for some interesting footage in contrast to the rest of the groups that shared more of a common ground. We're grateful for the opportunity, and as of now...no, we will not be competing on America's Best Dance Crew, but we may be seen briefly in the first episode.
