Getting the most out of the free, organic, search results should be the goal of any online business owner. Hey, the traffic is free and ultra targeted, what more could you ask for? Finding and implementing the best seo strategies will depend mostly on your existing knowledge, if any, and your budget.

You know the saying: those that can’t do… hire. Well, maybe that’s not really the way it goes, but it works. If you don’t know much about seo and /or don’t have the time or inclination to learn, you can hire a company to do the work for you.

There are a lot of companies that specialize in this and many of them are quite reasonable in their pricing structure.

If you can’t afford to hire a company at this stage in the game, don’t worry, with a little knowledge and a few simple tweaks you can easily benefit from some basic seo and at least get your foot in the door.

Once you are making more money online you can invest in the knowledge, or hire someone, to take your seo efforts to the next level. For now, though, you can start here:

1. It all starts with your keyword list. Choosing the right keywords for your onsite seo has to be the first step, everything revolves around these keywords.

Make sure that you choose words, or phrases, that get at least one thousand searches a month and less than 20,000 competitors. They must also be closely targeted and highly relevant to the content of your website.

Search engines will either reward or penalize you on the relevance of your keywords, you don’t want to be penalized.

Once you’ve got your keywords focus on placing them in your meta tags, your headers and footers to start. This will grab the attention of the search engine spiders and they will move your site to the top of the rankings if they think it is highly relevant.

2. You can use a similar method to drive traffic to your website by writing and submitting quality, keyword focused articles. Now, this is the point when a lot of people make a mistake; they don’t write a quality informative article, instead they try to stuff as many keywords as possible into it until is is virtually all gibberish.

You won’t be rewarded for that, the search engines are too smart. Write your article around a keyword, but don’t write for the search engines, write for people.

If you supply your readers with genuinely helpful information, and optimize it with keywords, your article can get a top rating in the search engines and subsequently drive a lot of traffic to your website.

Don’t drive yourself into the poor house when you’re just starting out online by hiring an seo company that you can’t really afford. First, start making some money and then you can outsource much of your daily work. In the meantime, use these tips and utilize these seo strategies

to keep the traffic flowing and the cash register (virtual, of course) ringing.

Most social media is entirely virtual in nature, like the oft-mentioned Facebook and MySpace. These provide people the means to connect with each other on a virtual level, but do very little in the way of having people meet in the physical realm. (Of course, there’s always the chance that people on Facebook will choose to meet with each other of their own volition, but that’s something that’s arranged by the individuals on a personal level, and not something directly encouraged by way of the social media platform.)

With MeetUp, though, the game is entirely different. A MeetUp group is a way of social networking wherein physically meeting others in the group is the entire point of the website. There are literally hundreds of thousands of MeetUp groups in existence, and there’s absolutely no reason for one of them to not be directly connected to your business.

Having a MeetUp group is a great way to garner interest in your business, and since you have a physical place for your business to be, you have a physical place for your MeetUps to take place at.

There are many things that you could start a MeetUp group in honor of in terms of your business. If you have a car-based business, consider starting a MeetUp group to have people come to your business and discuss the history of a particular car that your dealership works with. Another great thing to focus MeetUps around is free (or paid) trainings – if you have a dealership, for example, you could teach people how to change a tire, fix a flat, or change their oil.

Giving away information is a great way to get positive attention focused on your business. Even better, in order for the participants in the MeetUp to get the information, they have to physically come to your place of business for the class. And when they’re at your place of business for the class, there’s no reason to think that they won’t do any shopping while there, right?

If you are interested in utilizing MeetUp-type media – which you should be – there are other sites that do similar things. There’s actually a Twitter offshoot site called TweetUp that has become a very popular medium through which people meet each other locally and use the power of social media to further the good of themselves and their communities. Another site worth checking out is Biznik, which allows members to join it through an online platform, but it’s local-community based and is a tool for the promotion of in-person local events.

While going virtual is a great way to get the word of your business out there on the waves, don’t forget that going virtual is an excellent way to get people to come to your physical store, as well. Starting groups through MeetUp and similar sites is a great way to accomplish this goal.

If you have been online for a while now, then you have probably heard stories of people who have become wealthy using the internet. While most people simply will not become independently wealthy this way, it can and does happen in some cases. Either way, it is entirely possible to make enough internet advertising revenue to add a nice chunk of change to your bank account. Regardless of what some of the hucksters would like you to believe, it’s going to take some time, and you need to follow a marketing plan that’s a good match for you.

Whether you already own a business of your own, or you are just toying with the idea, the internet is an excellent resource that you can use to increase your profits. What it all really comes down to is having something to sell, getting people to see your offer, and then convincing them that they should take advantage of whatever it is that you’re offering. Of course, there’s a lot more to it than that, but those are the basics of how it works.

Perhaps you already have some experience with marketing in the offline world. This could range from buying air time on television and radio to putting up a billboard, from trying to sell a used car in your local newspaper to printing up business cards. All of these things, and more, are a form of marketing. While there are a lot of similarities between offline and online marketing, there are also some differences.

The main thing to realize is that the basic principles of selling never change. Convincing people to buy still requires the same psychology. That being said, internet advertising revenue is easier than ever to cash in on. Imagine being a small business owner who has a shop in an area with a low population. Sure, you have loyal customers that keep you afloat, but you know you could do better. Well, the internet marketplace covers the entire world. Suddenly, the whole planet is filled with potential customers! That fact alone is exciting, but it gets better.

Not only do you have incredible reach by marketing online, but you also have more control over your message, better customer tracking, and usually at a much lower cost than traditional forms of advertising. Yes, business owners really are in the middle of something revolutionary. If you aren’t yet taking part, then it’s probably a good idea to hop on board now…before your competitors get the edge and take a larger share of the market.

There are just so many ways to generate internet advertising revenue that it’s worth facing any perceived risk; real or imagined. The best part is that you can start as small as you like and then test and track your results. Then ramp up your efforts as you start seeing positive results. Your imagination is the only limitation on how much you can potentially earn, but even that will grow as you start making more and more.

What if you could combine the very best of television advertising with a smartphone? Many companies are looking into doing just this, by developing what can only be called a cell phone commercial. The basic tenants of this are exactly what they sound like – a video clip is sent to a customer’s cell phone, where they can watch your advertisements on the screen of the device. Consumers don’t even have to have smart phones to be reached via this method of advertising, as even the most basic phones these days have color screens and are capable of viewing video.

This might leave you scratching your head a bit – how would you get the mobile commercials to your customers? And since mobile marketing is based so much on an opt-in system, how could you convince your customers to “opt in” to seeing advertisements? In general, people dislike commercials on television and radio, so why would using a mobile phone device make it different?

The thing about mobile video commercials is that they are generally best paired up with other forms of mobile marketing so you can get the commercial to the consumer’s phone. It’s true that you just can’t start spamming the phones of customers with advertising, even if it’s the coolest mobile video ever. However, there are certain methods that you can take to get this information to the customer, and get the customer to undertake the consumption of mobile video readily.

One way is through the aforementioned QR mobile codes. With this method, the consumer takes a picture of the mobile code and is then taken to the mobile advertisement. In this way, the customer “opts in” to receiving the mobile video ad. Another way to do it is through Bluetooth projection, wherein a Bluetooth hub contacts a users’ cell phone and asks permission to input information onto the device. Should the customer accept, then the hub transmits the mobile video to them.

If this is a method of advertising that you’d like to undertake as a startup, it helps to pull in the advice of the professionals in order to do it appropriately. You don’t want your mobile commercial to be any longer than thirty seconds, or you risk annoying the consumer. There are also specialty editing processes that go into making a mobile video show up well on a phone and also project good audio.

Mobile commercials can include anything from real-life footage to animation to a straight up audio track. It’s all about how you’d like to project an image of your company to the mobile consumer. With the advent of increasingly complex technologies it’s only right that the humble television commercial advance as well – and moving onto the mobile platform is the next step along in visual, multimedia advertising.

I am sure by now the term blog is well known by most people, if you don’t know it is essentially a style of website. It is a website platform that allows the quick and easy posting of content (blog posts) on a regular basis. They first gained popularity as a personal diary, but have since became one of the most popular platforms for a website period.

Even your older traditional websites have moved towards at the least adding a blogging aspect to their website.

This will be a controversial statement to some people but my favorite blogging platform is WordPress. I think that it is the most effective and user friendly blogging/website platform out there.

Don’t take my word for it – try it out. Set up a free blog on WordPress.com. A WordPress blog hosted here isn’t as dynamic as hosting one yourself, but this is a great way to get used to the back end of WordPress and it is 100% free.

You might be asking yourself why WordPress anyways? Why do I care?

Well, when you are working online you will enjoy the power of WordPress.

You will be able to build professional looking websites on your own through the use of themes.

You will be able to easily add content from any computer that has internet access.

The WordPress editor is similar in style to many word processing programs. Adding content to your site doesn’t require a web designer – it is so simple anyone can do it.

You want to add fresh content to your site constantly, so having a platform that makes that easy is super important.

Google loves WordPress and blogs in general. it also loves fresh content. If you want your website to show up higher in Google searches – then built it with something Google loves: WordPress.

If you don’t have a website yet, consider building your first with WordPress. If you do have a website – consider adding a blogging aspect. It will make adding content easier on you, and the content will good for web traffic.

If you are a search engine optimizer you know how important link building is to your rankings. The problem is that these days most people are aware that link building works and have found ways to exploit and dominate the process.

I have heard stories ranging from Chinese sweatshop link builders to automated software solutions that essentially pollute the Internet with garbage (fake profiles, bogus blog comments, etc.). Anyone who attempts to game the system is usually doing everyone a disservice. There will be a short-term gain from getting ranked well for your keyword but eventually you will be removed altogether.

I am sure that the engineers at Google are already working on several plans to make link popularity less relevant in the future. I have made a short list of things I think would be useful tools to judge the popularity of a website, brand, person, product.

Mentions Within The Social Media Space.

Increasingly, social media sites like twitter offer new metrics into the world of popularity. Not only is the data up-to-date and current, it’s much more difficult for anyone to mimic a piece of content going viral and social media. Companies like Google could easily make deals with Facebook and twitter to access their data feeds and use them as a gauge for popularity.

Additionally, Google could search for mentions of the name of a company, twitter account for that company, or any subsequent products as a measure of likability.

Mentions Within E-Mail Communications.

Google is now one of the largest free e-mail providers in the world. It would be very simple for them (if they aren’t already) to monitor the number of times a link is sent through Gmail’s mail servers. This would also be difficult to game because your accounts would quickly get flagged for spam. Additionally Google can monitor the Gmail accounts to see which ones appear to be trying to increase their footprint.

Although I believe that your link popularity score will always play a role in your final ranking. I think it’s time for that metric to stop beating the primary source of data for Google. Once this happens, companies will increasingly be working towards social media strategies to help their bottom line.

If you participate in any kind of link building consider this. Quality will trump quantity in the future. One really good Flickr profile will be better than 100 crappy blog comments. Try to engage the communities within each one of your social profiles online.

When doing your keyword research it’s very important that you don’t overlook a very obvious, but frequently overlooked fact: you don’t just want traffic to your site, you want targeted traffic. You want to draw the people to your website who are most likely to buy the product or service you are selling. For that reason you cannot forget to consider the relevant keyword when evaluating your keyword list.

Make sure that the keywords you are targeting are relevant to what your website is promoting. If you find that you have kind of missed the boat you can either renew your keyword list or change some of the content on your website to make it match up more closely with your keyword list.

All the search engines consider relevance very highly. If you target keywords that are not closely related to your website, the search engines will find that you have very low relevance and won’t rank your site as high.

Do not get too caught up on one or two word keywords, in almost all cases they will be much too competitive and you will have a very hard time ranking for them. Instead, find a large list of keyword phrases. When you have a 3 or 4 word keyword phrase you may not get quite as many searches but you also won’t have nearly as much competition.

Longer keyword phrases can still deliver a lot of searches, probably not as many as the more popular one and two word phrases, but they will also be much less competitive.

When you first start your keyword research you can use many tools online, some of them are free, some of them are not. If you have a limited budget you should start with the free Google keyword tool. This one tool can give you all the information you need to compile an excellent keyword list.

Again, the basics of a good keyword list is to have keywords that get a lot of monthly searches (around 1,500) and few competitors (usually anything less than 20,000, though this can vary, you have to find your own parameters).

It may take you and little trial and error to find the highly relevant, well searched for keywords that also don’t have a lot of competition. This process can sometimes get a little tedious, but remember a good keyword list is like money in the bank. When you have a highly targeted keyword list you can get a lot of quality traffic to your website and that can relate directly into sales.

To recap, in order to build a top notch keyword list that will allow you to get a ton of very targeted traffic you will need to consider several variables. One of them is to find only the most relevant keyword possible. The keyword must relate directly to the subject of your website. If it does you can have a much higher conversion rate and you can also get a lot more organic traffic.

No matter how big or small your business is, and no matter how old or new, you can only succeed if people know about it. Whether you do this through radio, television, the newspaper, word of mouth, or over the internet; it is absolutely vital to the success of your business. After all, you may have the best product anywhere, but if nobody is aware of it, then it’s the same as not having it at all. Regardless of which methods you are using now, the internet and advertising are ideal for marketing your product or service.

While not everyone on the planet is on the internet, there is an amazing number of people who have access to it. There has never been anything like it in history. It gives you the potential to have customers all around the world. People go online for all kinds of reasons, and most of those reasons go hand-in-hand with the internet and advertising. For example, people often log on to the web to find solutions to their problems. If you are able to offer a solution they are willing to pay for, then you have just made a sale!

Another great thing about advertising online is that you can gather tons of useful information about your site’s visitors. Where they are from, what operating system they’re using, they’re web browser, how long they stayed on your site and what links they clicked are just a few of the things you can find out; each of which can help you to market more effectively.

When it comes to the internet and advertising you have the ability to easily change your marketing message, and it costs virtually nothing to make those changes. But, you don’t have to just guess what changes to make because you can track the results of all of your changes. You do this by using what’s known as ‘split testing’. This is where you make a change or two to something, then compare it to a control. Then you keep whichever performed better, and that becomes the control for your next split test. By repeating these steps you can see major increases in your bottom line.

The low barrier to entry is another benefit of advertising online. There are many methods you can try for no cost at all. Now, these may take longer than the paid options, but they are an excellent way to get started and see what happens. However, don’t let the low barrier fool you. You still need to take online marketing seriously. Give careful consideration to who your target market is, and the message you are using to reach them. This is just another aspect of running your business, and should be treated as such.

The internet and advertising are an almost perfect match. In fact, there isn’t any reason for you to not add online advertising to your overall marketing plan. It’s easy, it’s inexpensive, and best of all…it’s effective.
